"Dr. Flirt" prescribes the perfect medicine for mastering the art of flirting. He includes tips on getting started, how to deem when flirting is appropriate, how to read signals, plus his time-honored "Six Rules of Flirting."
One of the best books on flirting I have ever read. Westerman gives a reality based look at what flirting is and what it isn't.
While most people enjoy flirting, some consider it inappropriate in certain contexts, e.g. with married people. But Westerman explains that the behavior which most people call flirting and which some people disklike due to its context, is actually not flirting at all but what he calls hunting. Hunting assumes a desired, specific outcome and expectation. It can often involve a deception. It usually isn't life giving, even when both parties want it.
Westerman goes on to describe how authentic flirting is life giving for both parties regardless of what contect they are in because the one doing the flirting has no expectation of any specific response. Essentially authentic flirting is simply being in the moment and connecting with someone in an authentic way. Because of this context, authentic flirting is perfectly fine between any two people. Of course some recipients misinterpret flirting as hunting and react to that interpretation. So all in all I very much appreciated and enjoyed Weserman's explanation of what authentic flirting is and how to practice it. I have read other books on the topic of flirting and have even taken a couple of workshops on it. While each of those had good points to bring on the topic, I find Westerman's treatment the most enjoyable and sensible. Like the topic he writes about, Westerman's book is life giving.
