I just finished reading the first three 13th Street chapter books to my 5-year-old grandson.

He loved it; couldn’t wait to get to the next chapter! The stories kept his interest until the very end, plus the subtitles, “Fire-Breathing Ferret Fiasco” and “Bad-Breath Bats” were fun to say.

Progress markers at the end of some chapters were a hit! I liked the brief “wisdoms” in each book since they didn’t sound like the author was preaching but gave the reader a chance to ponder that way of thinking.

Reading two related stories and then opening up the backdrop in the third book was brilliant. My nieto examined the chapter book covers and knows another book is on its way.

P.S. Nieto volunteered to read the books to his 2 and 1/2 year old sister at nap time for a few days in a row.
