Downright Dead

Rate this book
There is more to babies being born on the obstetric ward than meets the eye …

Beaming with satisfaction, Annabel Tilson is ready to wrap up her third year of medical school. She sets foot on the obstetric ward of the University Hospital, where childbirth is both exhilarating and sometimes fraught with complications. This would normally be enough excitement for one rotation, but Annabel’s career is anything but normal.

˃˃˃ Is there something amiss with the obstetric ward’s medical care?

Admitted to the OB floor, eighteen-year-old Mary Chandler is aglow with her seven-month pregnancy. She is diagnosed with hypertension and, after a flurry of medical testing and monitoring, Mary drifts off to sleep. Much to Annabel’s alarm, the next morning she finds the young woman’s room ultraquiet and her patient unusually still.

˃˃˃ Annabel soon makes a critical discovery … that labor and delivery is fraught with harrowing cliff-hangers which endanger the lives of patients and their unborn fetuses. Scroll up and grab a copy of Downright Dead today.

Barbara Ebel is an award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author who sprinkles credible medicine into the background of her medical suspense novels. Since she is a physician and specialized in Anesthesiology, her operating room scenes shine. However, her vivid characters and plots take center stage.

She has penned three medical suspense series, and two separate medical novels. Definitely check out the New Book Release at the bottom.....

“Doctor Barbara’s” Dr. Annabel Tilson series includes six books (which can each stand alone), and is based on a female medical sleuth who promises exciting times on the wards as well as in her personal life. Two books in the series have won awards: Death Grip, the 4th book, won the 2018 NIEA award (National Indie Excellence Award), and Deadly Delusions won the 2017 Kindle Book Awards Semi-Finalist for thrillers.

Her first series, the Dr. Danny Tilson novels, takes place in Tennessee and is based on a neurosurgeon who has his hands full in the O.R. as well as in his personal life due to a female villainess, a favorite character of readers (who have a love-hate relationship with her). Dr. Danny’s third book, Collateral Circulation, was the 2015 National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist for Medical Thrillers. Operation Neurosurgeon, the first book in the series, was the top finalist for best-selling medical mystery books in 2012. (Best Selling Books' blog announced on PR Buzz Press Release Wire, Chicago, IL).

Dr. Ebel lives in a natural wildlife corridor in Tennessee with her husband and dogs. She maintains an active, non-clinical role in medicine, and loves to hear from readers.

In addition to her adult writing, she has illustrated and penned a children's book series called Chester the Chesapeake. The books developed during her philanthropic visits with her therapy dog, Chester. The dog books continue to inspire adults and children alike. (Chester the Chesapeake).

NEW BOOK RELEASE April 2024:

"BLUE, the Deaf Agility Dog," is a heartwarming story about BLUE, who is a deaf, rescued dog owned and trained by the author.

Is there a Dr. in the house?

Whatever Dr. Tilden is doing, drama and trauma find her.
Dr. Barbara writes with realism at the forefront.
It's great to walk in Annabelle 's shadow and experience her medical career growth!
I'm still waiting for Dr Barbara to jump the shark!!
You all are aware from the many t.v. medical series that in this case,
jump the shark = diagnosis is SLE / Lupus!
aka a cluster of autoimmune illnesses that affect many of us.
Waiting on book # 6 Dr. Barbara@

Truly some thriller moments in this story

Annabel Tilson is om her OB/Gyn rotation . There was a disastrous start. A difficult resident, patient deaths. She also continues to have men issues . lol
However , she is a smart woman and is learning her current rotation with the help of an astute attending physician and other residents on the ward.

I bought this book because it was billed as a thriller. When the young woman died because of too much magnesium too fast, I thought she was the first victim and the killer was someone with a medical background. Doctor? Nurse? Orderly? I began eyeing them all closely. No. No murderer. Not a thriller.

This was a very inaccurate, unbelievably sensational book. I’m in the medical profession and the portrayal of nurses, doctors and other medical personnel is, frankly, insulting. I cannot recommend this book.

No tension

I expect a novel to have a problem to be solved, a plot that moves along a continuum, gradually increasing in tension until it reaches its climax. This was simply a description of a week in the life of a medical student.

Good series

Can't wait to read the next book in this series. Sad to find out that Annabel's boyfriend System is so hung up on who she dated a year ago. It is going to be his loss. I have all hopes of Annabel and Bob getting together.

I enjoyed the book until it ended so abruptly, so much left hanging. I doubt that I will read any more of her books.

This book was good but rather boring compared to the others, but it also gave the reader a good insight of medical issues and Annabel.
