The Hard TruthDavida Barker is ordinary. These abilities suddenly make her very interesting to people Davi would be happier to avoid. Drawn into a criminal underworld and thrust between two sides at deadly odds, Davi has to learn to control her power while navigating a dark world of crime, violence, and lies. The Hard Truth is the follow-up to Tooth and Nail, Raney’s first novel of Appalachian Supernatural Noir.
What a trip this book is! Who are the bad guys and who are the good guys is debatable, but there iso no debate on who you're rooting for. I was tickled when Del showed up. Though the narrative isn't in her perspective like in the first novel, it's intriguing to see her through someone else's eyes. I adore the glimpse into an experience wholly different from my own; yet, I completely relate to the hopelessness Davida feels as she tries to find a way to raise her son while going to school while holding down a dead end job. Then bam, weird powers she can't explain or control. Davi has to decide who her friends are and who her enemies are, which is anything but clear up to close to the ending. I'm excited to hit the next book in this series to see where Del and Davi end up next.
Wow. What can I say but wow? Davi, the MC, is literally thrust into a world she must scramble to become a part of. Then she meets Del, and it all comes to an apex. This book is non-stop, page-turning, heart-racing thrills in a follow up to Tooth and Nail you won't want to miss. I absolutely love Del. This book continues a bit more about Del, but mostly about Davi and her adventures and misadventures after she is dragged into Del's world. This book is fantastic. Great for fans of witches, werewolves and magic. Highly, highly recommend both books. Jess Raney does a fantastic job writing this genre. I could not put this book down. It grabs you in and won't let you put it down until you finish. A nice, thrilling, nail-biting read you definitely don't want to miss.
Book #2 in the series Jessica Raney did it again. A fast-paced story that grabs you by the collar and jerks you out of your comfort zone. Another raw, edgy story with language to match.
A young waitress is shot at work and discovers she has special powers. As she tries to come to grips with her new reality, she meets Del (Delilah Monroe, granddaughter of Leona Spencer from Root and Bone). Between Del and Rachel (another witch), Davi is torn as to who is truly her friend and is trying to help her.
Witchcraft played a bigger role in this story. Good and bad are completely blended in this tale.
