I loved this. I've done some work on manifestation and I've completed a few crystal healing courses but haven't put the two things together properly so I found this an excellent way to start doing that.
There's some really simple but effective exercises to start with to prepare you for manifestation and get the best out of what you wish to achieve. The second half of the book covers the crystals you will need to help you with this. I've got the book on my wish list ready for release day :)
I've read two soon-to-be-released books on crystals recently and this was my favorite. It's beautiful and packed with information of all kinds, from interesting science facts about crystals to how to use them for manifestation to in-depth looks at many different crystals with instructions on exactly how to use them.
I personally don't use crystals for manifestation or anything spiritual. I just collect them because they're beautiful and I use them in our homeschool science environment. Two of my kids also collect them, and we all love learning about them. Though I'm not quite the target audience, I really enjoyed the depth of information and the photos.
One of the complaints I saw on the other crystal book that I reviewed is that the author didn't give specific instructions on how to use the crystals for manifestation. If you are after that, this book does provide that. It's quite in depth. Well recommended.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
I really liked this book. It does exactly as it should and informed me about the different crystals and their intent, how they should be used, how to cleanse them and so much more. It did also provide some background information on the crystals and just basic information if you're just starting out or wanting to learn how to use them.
"The Crystal Directory" is composed of three main sections: 'Crystal Basics,' 'Manifestation Basics,' & 'Crystal Sourcebook.' I primarily utilize the sourcebook section, which contains good information on specific minerals and crystals (I'm not ready to shell out money for some of the more comprehensive guides and encyclopedias). In that quick reference role, this book did a great job.
The crystal information pages are split into four sections: Abundance and Good Fortune, Success, Well-Being, and Love. The individual entries within these sections contain basic information, correspondences, and historical or mythological information about each material, alongside a 'How to Use' box (these can be important, as they may include notes on key-care for certain materials and occasionally warnings about the toxicity of a material). While the section intro pages don't contain a list of the materials placed in the category, there is an index at the back of the book to aid in quick location.
I don't personally get much use from either the 'Crystal Basics' or 'Manifestation Basics' sections, but I do want to give a quick rundown on both of them.
'Manifestation Basics' is exactly that. A collection of basic information on what manifestation is and tips on how to practice it. The information is easy to understand and well-organized. When used in conjunction with the sourcebook information, this section could be a good resource for someone wanting to learn how to incorporate manifestation into their practice.
'Crystal Basics' contains some solid information on both the literal definition and the history of crystals. There are examples of different shapes and formations of crystals, alongside a simple but helpful guide on crystal colors. There is a sub-section called 'Caring for Crystals' which emphasizes cleansing your crystals, particularly any new acquisitions (this can be important for anyone interested in the metaphysical vs the purely aesthetic use of crystals); for me, this section also gave me an opportunity to emphasize for new practitioners the importance of obtaining information from multiple sources. The first method of cleansing suggested is to immerse them in naturally running water (new crystal users may learn the hard way that some crystals cannot hold up to this type of cleansing). While some of the 'How to Use' tips in the sourcebook section will note that water damages a crystal, it is important to carefully look into the hardiness of your specimens before doing any sort of physical work with them.
For established members of the community: this book isn't anything earth-shattering, but I'm happy to have it as a part of my reference library. The information seems largely to have been researched with care and is well-organized and presented. The only area (that I noticed - as I've said, I mostly stick to the sourcebook) that brought me any lasting concern was a few pages on chakras that could have done a lot more to explain the history of the practice and that it is considered to be a partially closed practice (one you should be educated on by the proper authority, vs learning from a random graphic in a book or on the internet).
For new members of the communities that would seek out this type of book (metaphysical, spiritual, and magickal alike), I would like to offer a quick suggestion- research any practices you are interested in incorporating into your personal practice before doing so. An awareness of cultural appropriation is important, and while this information is becoming easier to access, knowing what should and shouldn't be incorporated into a general practice is something that takes time, care, and research. If you keep these things in mind, there's no reason to avoid books like this one while you develop a practice; take away the knowledge that can benefit you personally and appreciate the knowledge you obtain of things that can be useful to others.
The first impression of this book is how beautifully it is photographed and formatted. I enjoyed very much reading it and such outstanding presentation of the crystals. I use crystals as a practice and was pleased to receive this for review. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own. I highly recommend this book for all that do work with crystals and for beginners who wish to educate themselves on crystals.
What I love about reading this is the creative flow and outstanding detail of this book. The author has included each of the 100 crystals here that you want to know more about. The author has Sections for each aspects of learning 1oo crystals. She has one section on understanding crystals as a energy source which is important for those of us doing magic with our crystals. Section two explains how to use rituals to utilize your crystals in magic practice. Section three is for Abundance, Success, Love and Well Being. This allows the reader to easily find their chosen intentions and guide the reader to the right crystal and use its power. What fun it was to match the crystal with the right intention using the author's guiding information. All the crystals included have everything you need to know about them including their appearance, where to find them, if they are rare, and of course wonderful information on their powers. I found this particular helpful as I am building my crystal collection over time. I highly recommend this book.
The author of this book is very knowledgeable when it comes to crystals. I’ve been using them for decades as a Wiccan and can attest to the knowledge in these pages. It’s also very well written, geared to a novice, but not written down to anyone. Even someone who has been using them as long as I have can learn things from this book. From choosing, to cleansing, to use, it is all laid out rather nicely and is easy to follow. The writing is a little “flowery” for me at times but doesn’t distract from the overall intent of this book. The spells and exercises interspersed in the book are well laid out and easy to follow, no one should have any issue with the directions. I love the positive affirmations on page 54. I’ve even written some down and stuck them to my mirror to practice daily. I love that the book also teaches focused intention and how important it is. I feel that is something neglected in most crystal books and that doesn’t help someone who is trying to use the stones in a proper manner. Focused intention is absolutely essential to the outcome. Another positive is the visualization techniques. A lot of times you read that you need to “visualize” the outcome you seek, but you’re not taught how to do that. In this book, you are. You are led by the hand with simple, but effective techniques to help manifest your desires. Just remember that it needs to be true to who you are. Another positive for me is that the book gives you the best times to help with your intentions. Again, this book takes you by the hand and guides you in the correct manner, not leaving you to figure it out on your own. The best part of this book, in my opinion, is the crystal guide. It breaks down 100 stones into color, availability, correspondence (physical and mental), associated stones, and keywords. It also gives you an in-depth description of the stone (what it’s made of and how it’s made), the usage of the stone throughout history, and the attributes. There’s also a how to use the stone area as well. This book is a wealth of knowledge about different crystals, their usage, and how they can affect your life. It would be a magnificent addition to any home library. I now need to purchase a physical copy as well. **I received an ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This book was broken down into 3 sections-basic crystal info, manifestation info with rituals, and third info on individual crystals. As I have read numerous crystal books I truthfully skipped the first section. It did appear to cover all the basics-shapes, colors, cleaning, programming etc. The manifestation section was very interesting. It explains the 7 steps of the principles of manifestation-along with exercises to do. Step 2 Knowing What You Really Seek Right Now was eye opening and the idea of making it sacred resonated with me. In the crystals section there is a page for each crystal with basic info (color, availability) but also physiological and psychological correspondence, attributes, powers, legendary uses and how to use the crystal for manifestation. All in all a good reference book to have in your home collection.
This book serves as a great introduction to crystals & manifestation. I love the simple yet vibrant illustrations; they catch your eye & help provide a visual aid to better the readers understanding.
I really like how the author broke the book into parts. The first part, crystal basics, was a helpful & accurate introduction to crystals from the chemical science to the metaphysical science. The next section, manifestation basics, provided a good amount of info about manifestation along with several exercises/rituals that aren't too complex or hard to follow. The last section, the crystal sourcebook, provided a lot of useful info on a bunch of different crystals. I love that the author included the biological makeup of the stones, lore/ancient context, & then their metaphysical properties along with a picture of each stone.
This book was very well put together with a lot of useful information that can be applied to everyday life. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the metaphysics of crystals.
A beautiful crystal reference book. In the first half of the book, Sarah Bartlett covers the basics of working with crystals and their general shapes and color meanings. The second half of the book consists of a detailed look at 100 crystals. This was the best part of the Crystal Directory. I loved that there was the general and some geological information, historical uses and the metaphysical meanings. The 100 crystals she chose covered the common and newer and rarer crystals and she also separated them into three categories: abundance, love and home. It would be lovely to see Sarah Bartlett focus on this more and put out an encyclopedia of crystals, even her little prompts on how to work with the crystals were so useful.
First things first, Sarah Bartlett is a very very interesting person, she has written dozens of books, and has a very long and decorated career. Overall the book itself is fine, sadly it does mention lots of appropriation like smudging and chakras, plus half of the book is just explaining crystals and what they do, and to me, that's not really helpful because you can just save an internet tab and get that information. If you are looking for a crystal bibliography then this book would be fine, but you could also use google for the same information. Overall this book is very much in the middle, could be better could be worse. I wish crystal books would explain what culture or framework they are getting their associations from.
I greatly enjoyed this book , a lot of resourceful information on crystals and their properties . A section on manifesting which includes prompts and various rituals which was very interesting/ helpful . I can’t wait to try these prompts! The book also contains a glossary with important terms. Whether your someone starting out with crystals, or a crystal enthusiast this book is great to keep as a reference!
I have a lot of crystal books and this is one of the bests. It has an easy to read Contents page, a Glossary and an index. It offers suggested reading and credits their research. It took me a second to find exactly what I need for a crystal grid I was making. (I backed it with a another book and the information was correct). This book is great for beginners, and also a helpful tool for those of us that are learned but forgetful. 🤣 I will definitely be looking up other books by this author.
This has absolutely gorgeous pictures of crystals, among other things, all throughout the book, which is exactly what I was after! The layout of this book is fantastic, it is visually stimulating, easy to follow and pleasurable to look at. It is interesting, informative and the A-Z index is so handy. I really don't think the digital version does it justice so I look forward to purchasing a physical copy of this book.

While not comprehensive, the Directory is still a good resource for anyone interested in the topic. It is logically written out and filled with useful information. What really sells this book is what a great resource it is for someone building a crystal collection as, in addition to describing their characteristics, uses, etc., it also discusses their rareness.
Author #Sarah Bartlett had a wonderful new book ‘#The Crystal Directory’. This is a great beginner and reference guide. But most important to point out it’s a book to be bought and be put on the coffee table. When you have friends or family over what fun! Thank you, #Netgalley, #Sarah Bartlett and #Book Sales Inc.
This is a good introduction to crystals and how to use them in your life to manifest certain energy. It also describes many crystals, what they are made of, any historical references and what they con be used for in your life. I haven’t tried any of the manifestations yet but I will be curious to see if it helps.
A decent book looking at crystals. Divided into different purposes/sections, so if wanting a crystal for love or abundance you would go to that section. Some information on basics and on manifestation which is nice. Like any other crystal directory, just different extra information.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Crystal Directory by Sarah Bartlett is a beautifully organized and accessible guide to 100 crystals specifically chosen for their manifestation properties. Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting a quick reference, the book blends practical usage tips with spiritual insights, from chakras to ancient lore. It’s not heavy on scientific validation, but its appeal lies in its clarity and positivity. This is a lovely tool for crystal enthusiasts looking to deepen their intentional practice.
This book starts out very new ager. You could make a drinking game out of how many times the author uses the word manifest. But once you move past that first part the book gets interesting. The legends are excellent. The author includes warnings for stones like Cinbabar that can be toxic. The rituals are useful. Overall it was an ok addition to my stone collection.
This isn’t just a simple book about crystals, it’s much more. It tells you about how to use them to manifest things in your life, how to use them with your chakra’s, how they come about and the history of them. It then goes on to tell you about the shapes, colours, how to care for them and what each crystal means. Very easy to read with lots of photo’s to help you identify them.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I received this book as an ARC from netgalley. I enjoy reading up on crystals and their properties and I found this to be well written and informative. Thank you!
