Gaze in wonder on the art of modern masters - in the Marvel Monographs! Mark Brooks' photorealistic art style lends power to every character he depicts. His work on CAPTAIN MARVEL, DEADPOOL, SECRET EMPIRE and X-MEN - and his numerous other covers across the Marvel Universe - has made him a superstar. The Marvel Monograph series now captures the magic of Mark Brooks from every angle in an artist study that will be a great keepsake for your art book collection!
The thing about these Marbel Monographs is they are light on words. I know the art is the showcase but sometimes you want some more insight, and these books are a keyway to further grow the love and insight on the works. I loved learning more about Mark Brooks (who I got to meet last year at a Comic Convention) and it made me further root for his success. I will purposely look for covers he does after this book and after having met the man. I will say the art is a pure joy and like the other books in this series, they are tough not to want to read and flip through multiple times. Mark Brooks talked about his mindset on some of the changes in his style and reason for leaning harder to covers and I loved hearing it from the artist himself. Definitely pick this up if you are a Brooks fan or even just X-men fan. The covers actually got me so excited I plan to hunt for a few in my future shopping adventures.
I love his art, and it was cool to see the progression. There seemed to be less words in this book than Chris Bachalo's, but the small bits I did learn were cool. There were obviously plenty of covers etc that I was surprised they didn't showcase (like the Miami Vice cover of Ant-Man!) but what they did show was great. I wish there were more sketches and such, and I really wish there was more talk of his coloring techniques. But still, the art is great and seeing it in this format was cool.
