40 Days in Mark

Rate this book
40 Days in Mark is part of a series of devotionals written for any Christian desiring to deepen his or her understanding of Scripture.

The Holy Spirit uses God’s Word to grow believers in their faith and increase their passion for Jesus. As each volume focuses on a particular book in the Bible, believers will find the study useful for the enrichment of daily devotional reading or as the basis for small group Bible study discussion.

In this volume, readers will be led through a daily study of the Gospel of Mark. 40 Days in Mark breaks down the book of Mark into chunks that present the “Big Picture” of the passage, then “Digging Deeper” into that section, and then moving to help the reader into “Living Out” the lessons that are taught in each section.

This is a very good devotional commentary. Each chapter is short, encouraging slow and careful reading and meditation on each passage in the Gospel of Mark. It's not overly technical, but Cook offers keen insights into the text throughout which greatly aids understanding and application.

A great mix between a commentary and a devotional. It does a great job showing how each teaching or event in the gospel of Mark relates to others around it. So much insight and understanding of the Lord Jesus and his kingdom can be found in how Mark reports teachings or events. You will love and know Jesus more if you read this book alongside reading the gospel of Mark. Dr. Cook has some great wisdom in apply the text to your life.

Good Exposition

Bill Cook does a good job of exposition for the brief time he gives on each set of passages and is easy to follow. I like how Cook takes each passage and elaborates on them into categories from exposition to application. I have used this for a morning devotional and the book has pointed me to the gospel to center my heart towards Christ. Would recommend

Depth and practicality

A great resource for helping people read and understand the genre of the Gospels and for giving people a grid for how to make applications to life.

The 40 Days books are great guides for studying a book of the Bible. They allow room for your own time of study and then provide teaching from scholars who have studied and know the Scriptures well.
