Hanging on the edge

I was moved by some of his quotes and statements but I felt like he was hinting around instead of just saying how balance is ultimately achieved. The final chapter that spoke about his relationship with Jesus Christ is how he achieved true balance and should have been stated from the beginning. It would have been more meaningful. I felt like I was hanging on the edge of the seat waiting for something more, that something more finally came at the end. This book didn't do it for me spiritually and I felt like he just didn't finish some of his thoughts. I really think that trying to reach every audience that sometimes you can completely fail when your goal is to reach everyone but without "having to truly share the gospel" because you're more worried about pushing people away. I would have preferred that he from the beginning just said hey this is how you ultimately achieve balance through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The gospel sheds light in places and in people that you wouldn't ultimately think it could make a difference. The sharing of the gospel stands the test of time all by itself and really doesn't need our help. Hebrews 4:12

I stopped reading this to be honest. No shade to Pastor Toure, I just wasn't feeling it. For me it falls into a category of books that are for those just waking up to the fact that the way things are, don't have to be that way. I'm a more advanced student of life and well-being so I was not the target audience. I do wish that self-help/personal development might start making a sub-distinction of this in literal and virtual shelf space because I end up feeling like I wasted my time, when I fight to see if it will get better and eventually decide to quit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I had to rewind several chapters to hear the powerful messages again. My favorite chapter is the Power of NO. Though I listened to the book, I'll be getting the physical book so that I can read it, highlight, and jot down notes. We must work daily for personal and spiritual balance and this book is an amazing tool to help along the way.

When I heard about this book last year, I was excited bc I could tell just by the book’s name and the glow in Touré’s eyes when he talked about it, that it was exactly the type of book I’ve been searching for. Everything I had been feeling but couldn’t articulate is in this book. This book helped me understand the heaviness that’s been on my heart and how to tend to it. This isn’t your average self help book you read and put away. This is a book you want to read and gain new insight every time you do so. I recommend the audible too as it comes with its own helpful benefits.

Balance is the nourishment to my soul that I never knew it needed yet simultaneously I've been longing for a true self-developing, how to thrive not just survive, self-fulfilling, help me achieve in life book like this. I’m forever indebted to this book and already gifted 2 books to my mom and best friend. This book isn’t your average definition of balance that they taught you in school. This book will take you to infinity and beyond your limits like Buzz Lightyear if you position yourself to do so. Balance helped me change my perspective and realize that I actually can do all things I’m faced against in life well. Definitely recommend! Best book I’ve read all year!

I met Toure’ Roberts in 2016 and in the years since, as a result of being a consistent recipient of his powerful teaching and influenced by the integrity of his leadership, I’ve come to understand the paramount importance of identity – as in, being able to confidently ask and answer the questions “Who am I? and “Why am I here?” Not just once, but as part of an ongoing conversation with the highest version of myself and the One who created me. This is a bigger deal than it may appear.
Let’s just say, I’m no teenager. The fact is I’d been chasing the elusive dragon of identity for decades – looking to find myself through the approval of others which led to compromise and consequence that blocked the very breakthrough I was desperate for. My encounter with Toure’ was not random, but rather a Divinely assigned appointment that put me back on my destiny path. His authenticity resonated. His humor disarmed. His vulnerability engendered trust. His uncanny ability to bring the abstract into a concrete realism of right-now practicality struck a nerve. That said, Toure’s gift of extrapolating nuggets of invaluable truths from the deepest recesses that seem impossible to reach is only part of his anointing. What sets him apart in my view is that in this world where everything is a contest and every win is contingent upon how many followers we can keep on the hook, Toure’ is not interested in stringing people along for his own gratification. The integrity of his leadership is in his genuine desire to teach those within his influence how to surpass his trajectory by sharing the lessons he has learned on his own journey. His passion, he would tell you, is not to build big enterprises, but to build big people by equipping them with everything they need to be all they are created to be.
Toure’s latest book, “Balance,” encapsulates who he is, what he has come to know, how passionate he is to help bring us all into greater awareness of our own potential and expresses his sense of urgency to debunk the idea that lovingly attending to ourselves is selfish, gratuitous, and wrong. As I read each page with great expectation (because of the standard he’s already set for himself) Toure’ delivered what I believe is the most palatable, pragmatic, and propulsive body of work on true balance to date. I came away from this book with a fire in my belly to not only pursue the place of balance with every ounce of my being, but also to fight to stay there.
I don’t know about you, but I’m driven to leave it all on the mat in terms of accomplishing everything that I am in this world to be and to do. I recognize if I’m to succeed I must be willing to commit my life to stretching beyond what I currently know. This book is a treasure-trove for the lifelong learner. I’ve taken several quotes from “Balance” and pasted them on or near my desk as inspiration to stay focused, but there’s one portion in the chapter titled, “Protecting Balance” that really fuels the fire in my belly I mentioned before. It reads like this: “Balance isn’t something to be left unguarded. It’s too valuable to be neglected and will always be under attack. Night will always bring an assault against the version of you who neutralizes its threat to your life and well-being as well as that of others your light influences. Every moment we spend out of alignment with Balance is a moment when our truest mission is placed on pause. When I’m not the balanced version of myself, my output is diminished and my positive impact on everything and everyone around me becomes restricted. When I’m not balanced, I become a drifter and life just happens to me instead of me making life happen. We have to be committed to continuously realizing the version of ourselves that Balance causes to emerge. It takes focus and discipline. To do otherwise is a disservice to our destiny.”
Toure’ Roberts taught me that identity is everything. Catching that in my spirit completely changed my life. Upon reading his new book, “Balance: Positioning Yourself To Do All Things Well” I now see that Balance is what enables me to stand firmly in the square of my identity without wavering or wandering and therein wasting more of the precious commodity of time. Balance is the key. In this book, chapter by chapter, Toure’ gives us the instructions and the tools to forge the nuances of that key, to use it to open the doors of our destiny, and to protect it from anyone and anything that poses a threat. This book is next level. I hope you’ll fully engage.

How do we position ourselves to do all things well? How do we go through our day-to-day activities smashing goals effectively without burning out from what comes next? In the words of award winning business man, author and spiritual leader - Toure Roberts, balance is indeed the antidote to the poison of lawful productivity. Balance is that light that keeps all we hold in place. It’s the land of the midnight sun; a place where the sun is always shining. There is no night there and the good news is through this book the healing rays of this sun was again within my reach.

This book begins with a personal story by the author that demystifies different theories about balance. The author states that the journey to balance starts from a position of self-discovery. Perhaps, soul discovery would be the best description of this adventure because being soul-aware encompasses all the benefits that being self-aware achieves and more. It involves learning to be in touch with and listening to your soul’s need for balance which introduces us to a version of ourselves far greater than we’ve ever known; our exceptional selves. Grasping this understanding is a helpful cue needed in setting our priorities to what is most needful for the soul; relationships, parenting, business, career, education, community service, and every other virtuous responsibility that makes for a happy and fulfilling life.

We owe it to the teams of our lives— our spouses, our children, our friends, our coworkers, our business partners, our investors, and even strangers we encounter—not to be satisfied with simply being a part of the whole but to offer the best version of ourselves possible. That is why we must constantly block the noises and things that have blocked our hearts from addressing our soul’s hunger and walk in the disciplines that grant us greater clarity.

To restore balance, one must be aware of the signs that cause it to slip away from us. The author manages to tell tales of the different signs and side effects of imbalance and how they manage to steal our daylight. I could relate to every one of the symptoms mentioned because I have suffered from them myself. As someone who patterned with the voices of negative, destructive thinking in certain seasons, I realized this was a pointing sign of imbalance and began reconditioning my mental atmosphere for a shift.

The most captivating chapter for me is that which capitalized power of NO. One impactful lesson I learned was to always conserve my yes for the things that matter most, and the only way to do that is to have a hefty amount of no(s) in my life because balance is not always better time management, but better boundary management.

This book gives us powerful nuggets needed on our journey to balance. My top picks include:
- Learning to live in an energy conservation mood; to conserve one's energy for prioritized demands to have reserved creativity and resilience to face unexpected challenges.
- Surrendering to peace by sometimes accepting and coming to terms with hard and painful realities. As the author would say "rather than fight the wind surrender and ride with it"and finally
- discipline to engage with myself and the tools I needed to stay productive.

This book helped me attain a higher level of self-realization. I found new areas I needed to pick up more strategy and the tools I needed in order to build better resilience against the enemy of imbalance. The style of writing used by the author was also quite intriguing, his metaphorical elements improved my interest to explore how writing could be a conversational art rather than a one-way download of content.
However, I wished that the writer was more straightforward with his introductory chapters and led me to the reasons I picked up this book much sooner than he did.

This book opened my eye to an interesting perspective of what balance truly is and equipped me with really dynamic tools for a journey that could only really be perceived and related by an author and leader such as Toure whose success can indeed be attributed to His mastery of the dynamic mystery of balance.

Imagine learning to tap into the awareness, sensitivity, and highest thought patterns that enable the most successful outcomes in life, love, and business. What would your life look like if you were able to break the patterns of inconsistency that keep you from your absolute best? Could it be possible to identify and regularly access the highest version of yourself, leaving behind past hit-or-miss cycles and instead starting to win in every key area of your life?

These goals are not only possible--they are what you were made for!

In Balance, bestselling author Touré Roberts guides us on the eye-opening journey that unpacks the divine formula that makes this a reality.

This illuminating guide brings a unique and eye-opening perspective to the evasive concept of balance. Transcending familiar theories of work-life balance, Roberts teaches that balance is a state of existence, a becoming that, when realized, not only brings forth the highest version of an individual but optimizes their life's output, productivity, relational value, and overall achievement.

As he unpacks balance with stunning relatability, Roberts connects with readers on every level. His easy-to-grasp style of teaching and unabashed vulnerability illuminate and clarify how living in balance is the longing in each human heart. Roberts shares life-changing personal stories and the principles they inspired while discovering balance in his own life. As an author, speaker, entrepreneur, CEO, and lead pastor of two large congregations in the United States--not to mention a devoted husband and dedicated father of six--Roberts knows that merely juggling responsibilities is not the answer.

Balance departs from traditional techniques of time management and better organization to get to the core issues at stake. Roberts reveals that the path to true balance prioritizes self and discovers the unique, deep internal needs of the individual first. "Identifying your deepest needs not only is life-transforming but brings forth your greatest self, pouring an overflow of your best and highest abilities into the lives of everyone around you," Roberts explains. "Balance is not about learning to effectively give pieces of yourself to important parts of your life. Balance is about knowing and becoming your entire self--and then giving from your wholeness to everyone and everything within the context of your life."

Key chapters include The Power of No, which unpacks why "no" is the most powerful word in your vocabulary; There's No Team in I, a liberating and paradigm-shifting exploration of the difference between being selfish and the transformational quality of a term Roberts coins as being "self-ful"; The 5 Signs of Imbalance, which will help you quickly identify the imbalances in your life and effectively respond before crisis hits; and Balance after The Blow, a step-by-step guide to get you back on your feet after experiencing an unexpected setback. You'll walk away from each illuminating chapter with powerful principles, tools, and prompts for self-evaluation.

A personal navigation guide like no other, Balance charts your path to productivity, peace, positivity, purpose, and unlimited possibilities.

This book is totally life changing. This book should be read by the masses and should be taught to all. Toure' is dropping some serious wisdom that we all need to catch. Toure's books get better and better and they are full of wisdom. I recommend everyone looking for balance or those who think they already have balance. Read this book!

This book is more than amazing. I can't even put it into words. When PT, that's what we call him, initially mentioned it and was teaching on messages from it I knew then at that very moment it was something I needed. I'd gone through a lot in the course of the pandemic dealing with tough financial hardships and the loss of my mom, and the level of stress I'd been dealing with I knew I was off track. When he shared the final release date I told him I couldn't wait that long but now I have it. This book has NOT disappointed me. I'm still reading it but what I've read so far has far beyond exceeded my expectations. My biggest takeaway and aha moment for me was realizing that there's a pecking order to our lives. It's our relationship to God first, then ourselves, family, and whatever else comes after that that we see fit to work in our lives. Prioritization is the KEY word. Knowing what's important. Taking the time to give our souls what it needs to become our highest selves has been big for me. I must add that this book couldn't have come at a much better time in my life while I've been doing my healing work to become whole again. One of my favorite quotes says "The person who will find Balance must learn the discipline of regularly muting life's noise. Employing effective ways of quieting our lives will allow us to tap into the rhythm of the soul which leads us into Balance. Balance is PERFECT for me. And I wholeheartedly think that EVERYONE on this planet can benefit from this book.

Perhaps for someone just beginning to figure out how to pull their life together, this would be a good start. In my case, most of it is rehashing of very similar concepts offered in many other books. That said, there are some gems of ideas to glean and inspire here.
Roberts provides excellent guidance to restore peace and, yes, balance, to your life. He focuses on taking care of yourself, since one cannot take care of others unless you are well enough to do so. He also touches on spirituality and religion, but doesn't push it much until the ending. It doesn't really have much to do with the strategies he proposes, but more with motivation to attempt them. For those for whom Christianity is center in their lives, he provides the connection to what he recommends to the reason to follow these strategies within the context of their faith.
As I mentioned, there is some solid advice and direction here, given without insistence or judgment. But it's not anything new or insightful. Still, it's a good reminder for those going through a difficult time who need some encouragement or guidance.

This book is incredible! Balance is the right guide to get you on track with your life goals. Life can be hectic & unpredictable; we’re often feeling overwhelmed & out of motivation. Balance provides realistic assessments & strategies on what we can do to get centered & be whole. One of my favorite passages from the book is “To find Balance, you must learn the discipline of regularly muting life’s noise”. So true! Our lives are filled with notifications, bells & whistles. Striking the right Balance with our daily routines in this tech era is paramount. Another gem is There’s No Team in “I”. That’s a whole word! We have to learn how to self-care so we can be whole & care for others. Being Balanced allows us to be our true & complete selves. Thank you, PT for allowing the Lord to use you to pour into us with this timely work. This is a mighty work that will withstand the test of time. Peace & Blessings back!

This book is truly and unmistakably for the masses. Too often in life we miss our own marks because we’re tied up in the success of the marks of others. One of the many quotes from this book hit me over the head to awaken me to something I’d drowned myself in not even realizing I was drowning:

“How many times have you said or heard someone in contemplative agony say, “I don’t want to disappoint you”? It almost always happens in a moment when an individual is struggling with choosing what is right for themselves over how someone else may feel about their decision. This is often rooted in what I like to call false loyalty. False loyalty is when you, under the guise of being loyal to another, prove to be disloyal to yourself. “

This book should be apart of your literary arsenal, not because it’s a good read but because it lends itself to being a powerful force that must be apart of your journey of healing, discovery and freedom.

What a refreshing start, as I began to read this incredible book! It took me to a quiet stillness which spoke to my inner being. It reached and nurtured those areas that needed insight and solutions.

The Balance Book gives great truths and lessons applicable to life, and I dare say to most everyone’s life story. It gives strategies to rise above complex situations and provides calming answers to todays challenges. It’s a book that gives Hope, yes, and solutions to questions you may not know to ask. And those questions are what the Balance Book addresses - how to live a balanced life in and throughout life’s seasons. My plan - The Balance Book will serve as a practical and spiritual supplemental guide throughout my daily challenges. Thank you Touré PT Roberts for allowing God to use you in such an incredible way!

This book was amazing! I also used the companion reflection guide, which goes even deeper and makes you think even harder about what you just read in the book (which was full of gems on its own). I am a Christian and would have no problem with lots of direct Biblical references (and somewhat expected it since he is a pastor), but I like that he limited that in the book to make it more accessible for those who do not share the same religion.

I learned so many lessons and new tools for living a Balanced life, but one of the main things that stuck with me was his emphasis on how it is not selfish to take care of yourself first and take time away from everyone/everything. I was always raised to think that was just selfish and nasty, so now that I’m an adult I’m working on unlearning those toxic ways.

This book….. please go get it now. This was a beautiful articulation of what I have been trying to implement in my life for years now and also gives me practical ways to actually live in balance. This book was more than just a good read it was a manual on how to live life well by prioritizing the deep longings of your soul. I love the way it explained the concept of balance. Toure does a eloquent job at intricately painting a beautiful picture of what balance is, misconceptions about balance and how to live a balanced life. This book is for everyone, even if you are not a christian this books was written for both believers and non-believers. I really hope that people are open minded enough to absorb the wisdom that is in the book, it is mind changing, thought provoking, convicting and enlightening. I thank the Lord for this wonderful revelation!

Not bad . Not great . Although nothing new or ground breaking here for me although I read self help / metaphysical books so this book was more so a reminder . I think one issue I had was I felt a huge disconnect from this book . Where I didn’t feel like he was speaking to me and I’m in a transition season of my life where I’m struggling with balance. Oddly enough my favorite moments where the end or the chapters when pastor Roberts would do a recap with the music playing in the background. It was really calming and soothing and at those brief times I felt the most connected to the book.

If you love Pastor Roberts then you will love this book
If not I wouldn’t really recommend it . But again it’s not bad it just kinda meh 🫤

PT spoke to me as a father would to his family; I welcomed each page as I could hear HIS voice audibly saying if you find Balance you find yourself, your identity, and your purpose.

While reading Pastor Touré Roberts exposed areas of my unconsciousness that NIGHT (the destroyer, father of lies and negativity) had influenced. Together, we set out on a path of healing and restoration.

Revelation flew off the pages as I saw my peace and tranquility take form. PT was right there with me affirming me that I was on the right path to Balance.

A quick read but full of wisdom, insights and revelation.

Thank you for writing this piece of work with us in mind. Since “Wholeness”, your last book, got me to a new dimension of life, I’ve been anticipating this release and what barriers it will break me through for this new season of life. I’m ready to access new dimensions, and just after reading the first two chapters - I’m taking a day off from the world, heading to the coast where the sand means the water, and diving into chapter 3. Soul-awareness. Self-ful. No team in I today. My soul is yearning for reconnection to The Source that got me this far in life. Thank you for the divine, yet practical reminder and reconnection to my Purpose’s Assigner.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway....

By page 60, I had highlighted just three lines.

I don't believe I'm the intended audience for this book. I don't strive to do all things well. Some things I do just to get them done and I'm okay with that.

Roberts seems to be a leader for many projects going on simultaneously and as a leader, a goal of success is critical for everyone involved. This just isn't my world.

I'll offer this book to friends and co-workers and ask if they would be kind enough to do a review here on Goodreads.

“Balance" brings awareness to your life in ways that help you realize the importance of being deeply connected with who you are in God, who you long to be and how you long to live. Pastor Touré breaks down Balance in practical ways that help us realize that only when we truly understand how desperate “night” is to take from us, can we truly explore the Balance we all need. “Balance After The Blow” and “The Power of No” alone make this book worthy of being a #1 resource for us time and time again, as well as #1 on any bestselling list. This book provides guidance and a good roadmap to clearing your mind. Toure reminds us that we are gatekeepers of our thoughts and it’s up to us to allow positive ideas in our life and discard negativity. If not, we will continue to fight against our inner gifts and not allowing our best selves to shine.
