Assassin. Phantom. Raven. Emily is one of the most elite assassins in her flock. She is only one of two ravens granted the right to hunt solo at only twenty-three years old. Her first mission: find and take out an unknown target at a specified time and location.
It should be easy enough, and yet...the last thing she expected was to see the male she'd danced with during the witches' Samhain Ball. For the first time in her professional career, Emily froze. It was the first time she couldn’t make the kill - not without answers.
Little did she know she wasn’t the only assassin hired. There are three others to ensure all four raccoons shifters are dead. But before she can figure out what is going on, the raccoons take her through a portal and she lands in a different world.
Will Emily follow them on their adventure, explore the feelings she still has for them, or will she follow through on her contract and kill the man she might be in love with?
*This is a steamy reverse harem shifter romance with some MM. All paranormal books by Emma Dean exist in the same paranormal world - the Council of Paranormals.*
This wasn't what I was expecting. It was so much better, and I got to see Wonderland, too. I loved it. A raven and her raccoons, it kind of makes you want to laugh. I can't wait to see where this series will take me next.
I’ll read the next one because I do like the characters and want to see where their relationship goes next. I’m guessing there’s gonna be an Alice in wonderland series next and this was the intro. Jack was interesting. Didn’t like the book thing, them reading their own story. Favourite character was Ben.
I like the characters but didn’t find the author writing herself into the story anything but annoying. It was well done, but it prevented me from losing myself in the story’s world. Only bc something from my reality (the author & her series) played such a large part in the storyline. Hopefully, book 2 will be a better read for me. 2 stars
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Dean has become one of my go to authors so I was excited for this new series. Finally a group of raccoons for us to fall in love with as they go about their antics. Adding a Raven into the mix is just that much more fun I must say. A great start that will keep you fascinated and leave you ready for book two now. Perfect for fans of paranormal reverse harem. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
I couldn’t finish this book for 2 reasons. First, I really think you had to read the prequel and possibly even the fox trilogy for it to flow smoothly. Second, the author writes herself into the book, having written a book about the characters, even having the characters read a part that JUST happened. It ruined the whole thing for me.

Heather's Notes This was an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the story and while Emily annoyed me at times with her back and forth with how would she live if she wasn't an assassin I think it was true to character. I really liked the Alice in Wonderland part and am going to check to see if she wrote a story about them. I hope she has. I will continue reading this series as well and will probably go read the fox series as they seem to be linked.
Emma Dean's book universe, The Council Of Paranormals, has always shown immense creativity with magic, shifters, and the world they live in. This is shown to the best of her ability in this latest series. The raccoons have been the most intriguing characters that have popped up in multiple series, and seeing what they're up to and really learning about their skills has only fascinated me more. In contrast, Emily the raven is a very complicated character. She initially comes across as very one-dimensional but I adore the amount of layers to her personality, as well as her abilities and her mysterious past.
This series has higher stakes than any of the previous series, and considering where they ended up for the majority of this book, I honestly can't predict what will happen next. But I'm intrigued to find out!
Familiar Characters from the authors other books with a whole new adventure and romance ahead. I really enjoy the struggle Emily is going through internally throughout this book. I liked the all the guys and hope to see more of a connection between them in the next books. Though the Wonderland part was well done and a bit intriguing I didn’t care for it too much because it’s never been a tale that I personally like. I can’t wait to see how this adventure links to the overall storyline for the Council of Paranormals World Emma’s Book all take place in and I can’t wait for more beloved characters from previous/current series pop to in.
I received a free copy of this book via the author’s ARC team and am voluntarily leaving a review.
First book in the series but there is a prequel that I highly suggest reading first. I loved the prequel and it sets the tone of Emily and her raccoons. Ravens have always been looked at as a symbol of death and darkness. For Emily that is very true. She is a raven shifter and they are hired assassins. She is very good at what she does. Well until four raccoons seem to flip her world upside down. She normally can turn off her feelings but that doesn’t seem to always work out well for her. The story is filled with adventure and danger as the five of them try to work on a mystery. A mystery that might just stop their death and the end of their world. So no pressure. The author adds lots of elem to the story. She even puts a little of herself in this one.
I enjoyed the other authors books. I think it’s more because I enjoyed their characters and storylines. I don’t know what it is about this one but I just didn’t enjoy it very much. It seemed way more geared towards the sexual tension then the actual story. There’s a fine line for me and this one the plot was just, I don’t know, a little slow? Uninteresting? Not sure if I will continue with the series and if the Alice in Wonderland spin-off happens (which I’m guessing it is) I definitely won’t be reading that as it had no interest for me. The fact the author wrote herself into the book was a little strange too.
I love the worlds that Emma Dean has created. It was fun to jump through the portal with Emily and the Raccoons who would have thought our own mundane world exists as does a twisted Wonderland. I can not wait to see where Emily and company are off to next. Highly recommend everything from Emma Dean I have read everything she has written so far except the next Bandit’s book which I am off to start now.
The action sequences were great and well detailed. The beginning was a little chaotic because it felt like something was missing in regards to Emily and the guys. It wasn’t until later knowing what their abilities were that it made sense. The different parallel worlds was different but then again this crew is all about chaos.
i almost gave up on this one but I'm trying to finish reading the books i start for a change!
i didn't like this one very much. i didn't like the characters, i thought the characters were bland even though the writer tried really hard to make the main character ~~~~quirky and ~~~~crazy~
I liked this book. It’s definitely weird and takes getting used to the fact that she can flip her emotions and off. I can’t imagine a whole raven society living emotionless like robots. It sounds so sad.
3.5 I picked this book up free on Amazon I have read previous books set in this world so I was looking forward to this one and I did enjoy it I really liked the characters and am interested to see how their story continues in the next books
I enjoyed the story but Emily is not my favourite character in this universe. I read the other series first and I didn’t like her all that much there. It’s a good story though and I will pick up the second book next.
FB lugemise väljakutse grupp #naineloeb Emma Dean To Catch a Bandit LK (u 300). Seekord seigeldakse Imedemaal, kus Alice tahab punasele kuningannale ära teha, kuid punase kuninganna käes on mitmed võluesemed, mida pesukarud peavad kokku varastama, et maailma päästa. GR 4/5
To Catch A Bandit is the first in the This Is Bandit Territory related to the Council of Paranormals. Of course Emma puts her spin on all her books that make them unique and special. You are guaranteed never a dull moment with one of her reads.
I mean how awesome is it that you can read a story about a Raven Assassin and Four Raccoons? Seriously they had me rolling. I really found out that i love these Raccoons!! Through the course of the story we get to know Emily, the Raven Assassin, and what makes her so good at what she does. On the same hand we get to know more about the four Raccoons, and what big personalities they have. They, to be honest, make this book so enjoyable. They had me laughing and yeah I might be a tad obsessed with them.
Overall, Emma is known for creating fun characters, a great story and the need to find out what happens in the next book. If you are looking for a fun read, I highly recommend this book.
I loved this! Emily is like a female version of Corbin but with more emotion. I loved the guys and I can't decide who I like better! The adventures in new lands was fun. I've preordered the next book!!!!
I really didn’t like Emily and had a hard time reading this book because I didn’t like her. The guys are super interested maybe because there are so many of them and they have some really different abilities. But pairing them with the cold, frigid almost heartless Emily made me cringe. Wonderland was creative but also a bit gruesome for my liking.
I just love how Emma Dean is able to somehow connect all the precious books together in some small way. I love how she makes the smaller animals still bad@$$ and able to handle their own
Emily is a raven shifter who has the ability to shut down her emotions. She’s one of the best assassins. She’s sassy and isn’t quite sure what she wants in life. Jace is the leader of the bandits. He’s strong but afraid of being alone. Chance is the asshole dom of the group. Let’s just say Emily and chance have one of the best sexy time scenes. Ben is sweet I would love to know more about him. Aiden is the romantic of the group and I love how we learn more about him. The sexy times were great. The story awesome. I love how they went to the hell plane and the madness plane. Can’t wait for more.
I've been reading along with this story through small chapters since I've signed up for Emma's newsletter, which I would recommend. I was pleasantly surprised the turn that this book took.
The Raven assassin and the 4 raccons went on a adventure that I wasn't expecting. Throughout the book we got to know Emily alot better and what makes her the one of the best Raven assassin. We got insight into her as a Raven but also we learned more about the raccons.
I am such a big fan of the raccons. I absolutely love all of their personalities...and I think I will claim them all....YUP
I can't help say that the author clearly hit a home run with this rh novel. You do not have to read her other series to understand this new one, but for me it made it more enjoyable. I recommend this new trilogy. It has a little bit of everything like PRN, different shifters, action, fighting, a splash of hot hot hot smexy time, a Mc who's a whole lotta bad@ss and just a little crazy. I want to be Emily when I grow up. Lol. I am so excited to read the next installment to see what these characters get into together.
