I found a copy of this book at one of my little libraries. With such a close personal connection to Alaska I was so excited to start a book set in the last frontier, but was quickly let down. The world building is just not there. If a book is going to take place in Alaska I want the author to make me feel like I am there, I want to be able to picture it! Especially rural Alaska that had so much undiscovered beauty that most people don’t get through chance to see.

The book just feels so rushed and chemistry between the main character wasn’t there for me. I think making the main characters past lovers was a lazy move, and left me feeling disappointed with the love story. Would have loved to see more of Cassie and Jake’s past so that the reader could really feel like there is love between the characters. There was one point in the book where the characters kissed but with no chemistry and no build up I was kinda like: oh that kiss was out of nowhere.

Don’t get me started on the main character having a son and then the son is written out of the story for like the last 10 chapters.

The murder and treasure hunt was actually interesting but I wished the it wasn’t so rushed. You only find out about the treasure in like chapter 13 and the book ends by chapter 16.

I give this book 1/5⭐️ but if I could I would leave a 0/5 stars. the world building was severely lacking. The love story lacked chemistry and connection. And the murder mystery wasn’t unfolded in a true suspenseful way.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Alaskan Mountain Murder. Sarah is one of my favorite authors for LIS. I'm always excited when I receive a copy of her books in the mail. This one is well written, full of action, and full of faith.

Cassie Hawkins and her son have returned to Alaska to find her aunt. The authorities had called to tell her she was missing. When she arrives the door is hanging open. Uncomfortable she leaves to go to her ex-fiance`. On her way to see him she is followed. Her car is hit and ran off the road. She helps her seven year old son out of the car telling him to run as fast as he can. The attacker runs after her. She picks up her son and runs straight to Jake's house without realizing it. She needed to get inside and call for help. She hopes his parents have forgiven her.

Jake Stone is shocked to see her run into his home. She had hurt him badly eight years ago. As he looks at the boy he sees himself in the child's face. Adding even more hurt to his heart. She asks him not to send her away as she tells him what happened. How could she think her would do that to her.

A journey to protect the only woman he ever loved and the son he never knew existed. What mystery is the mountain hiding? Who are these men? Why are they trying to kill them? God has a plan for these three, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn your life around.

Slow

I Would give this 3.5 stars. Cassie and her 6 year old son return to Raven Pass in Alaska because her aunt us missing. On her way to her aunt house she get the feeling she is being followed. Trying to lose the car that's following her she get into an accident. Where she and her son managed to escape the car and run to the nearest house which happened to be her ex-fiance. Who she hasn't seen in 6 years. This book had murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping. The reason why I give this the rating I did was because the author kept going back to the pass of the hero and heroine. There were trust issues on the heroine side, and after a while it seemed repetitive. The author kept repeating it.

Wonderful story by Sarah Varland! I was drawn into the book from page 1 and the action never stopped. The main character has no idea why she's being chased or what is truly going on until way after the fact. It's an intense read for the characters physically as well as emotionally.

The only thing I had trouble relating to was how she broke up with her fiance without a word. I cannot fathom ending a relationship like that and then having a child resulting from that relationship and never saying anything. However, the grace and forgiveness he shows her is truly inspiring and makes me wish I had that level of grace for those who have done far minor things to me.

WOW!!!!!!!

This is a great story. It has a lot of mystery, intrique, and romance. One of the couple had a strong faith while the other does not believe in God but before all is said and done, they're believing and trusting in God.

Good story

Girdwood is in a beautiful place, next to forested mountains.
From the Alyeska ski resort the views are wonderful, both summer & winter. Olympic athletes train there. In addition, Turnagain Arm adds access to good fishing & boar tides.

Can't get enough

Great story yet again.
Clean suspense, great characters even though I want to kinda smack them sometimes. Will they won't they get to the other side ?
Don't miss this one its a page turner.

Easy to read, suspenseful, good Christian novel. A little repetition when explaining why the protagonists should not be together when they obviously should. It was a nice read!

Good characters, strong storyline. Moves along and also leaves you guessing at times. Will they, won't they.
Will she open up to Christ and accept Him?

Very enjoyable read!

I must remember, before I leave this book somewhere another reader can find it, to count just how many times Cassie is shot at, run off the road, kidnapped, etc. etc. etc. I still haven't figured out why the search & rescue folks would think she has any special insights about the trails her aunt would have taken—Cassie hasn't been home in about seven years, and surely there are people in the community who knew her aunt's hiking habits better than Cassie—or how the baddies knew to try to run her off the road even before she made it back into town at the beginning of the book.
