If this book came out in 2010, I would give it 5/5. But being released in 2022, this book is a collection of obvious facts about the fluid job market we live in and how technology is pervasive in our professional lives. There’s nothing innovative about the concepts discussed in the book, let alone groundbreaking. Any reader who has even a remote grasp on current events, how internet works or the job market would find this book redundant. The smug narrating voice doesn’t help in bringing the reader onboard.
The book introduces the concept of Freelancing using the supposed 'Human Cloud', harnessing artificial intelligence technologies to essentially be your own business model. Though true, that this way of working can be transformitive, it is hardly a new concept as outlined in the book. In fact many people have been working like this 10 years before this book was published. Still there are aspects within this book that can be helpful for you if you wish to pursue such a work/ lifestyle, so may be a useful book to read for those aspiring people to follow in the footsteps.
If you feel stuck in your career, are tired of working in a dead end job, fear that recent economic events may mean the end of your employment, or simply want to know how you can leverage the internet to bolster your vocation, this book will help. For me, it covered components of networking and resourcefulness that I had been a bit blind (ignorant) to, and has refreshed me.
Problems bring opportunities, if we keep our eyes open to them. Asking “what problem am I trying to solve” is key. With our contacts and the internet, the answers are there, if we are willing to seek them. “The Matts” just made that a whole lot easier.
