"Ground-breaking," "Revolutionary," "Refreshing and Crucial." Thought leaders from around the world are talking about the impact this book is having on their own lives and work. These three authors bring together their decades of experience as pastors, missionary trainers and consultants in one voice. The result is proving to be transformational worldwide. Are you tired of being spiritually overfed yet under-nourished? Are you worn out by all the things you “should” be doing? Are you burned out on religion and wanting to bring more connection and participation to conventional church? Or, are you one of the 65 million people in the United States alone who are “Done” with church as they know it searching for how to better engage as an organic church, simple church, or house church? Do you want to accept Jesus’ invitation to “get away with him and recover your life”? This revolutionary and yet practical book addresses the causes of burnout many Christians face and empowers them to join God in a joy-fueled movement of Jesus! Vibrancy and joy are what Christians are promised. Yet, many have experienced the a guilt-ridden, duty-based, judgemental culture that has left them still searching for the life Jesus promised. Perhaps you find After more than 10 years of coaching individuals, families and communities in the joy-fueled way described in these pages, the authors have seen a spontaneous, world-wide movement spring up from six continents, bridging the divides of race, class, culture, privilege and politics. It has been their delight to witness this movement emerging. It is now their joy to share what they have
In Joy Fueled, you will discover three practices that inspire hope to build the joy necessary to go the distance, foster mature relationships with others and with God, and overflow into a life of mission. What is stopping you from reclaiming joy as your primary motivation and joining God in catalyzing a self-propagating revolution of joy?
A refreshing look at the state of the church in the U.S. and the world. The combined wisdom and experience of the three authors lead a reader from identifying an underlying problem and offer a viable solution. Some specifics are missing. The authors do offer a list of resources. The next book should bring more highlights.
For anyone who loves Jesus but has grown disillusioned with the institutional church as we know it in America, this book is for you. Actually, this book is for anyone who loves Jesus and wants to grow in love for Him... really a breath of fresh air, and quick and invigorating read. *Highly* recommended.
This book is life changing revolutionary insightful. Want to thank the authors for how authentic they were. Please read this book it will change your life.
This book was a pleasant surprise. I come from a pretty conservative background and have wrestled with the differences in denominations that have made me uncomfortable before. I, in general, have a pretty poor theology of the Holy Spirit because I am so wary of hyper-charismatic movements.
But THIS BOOK showed me that following Jesus is not based on denomination, it is not based on how much you know about the Bible or theology, and it's not based on how passionate you are about your relationship with Christ. It is about THE relationship you have with God/Christ/Holy Spirit!
I loved how they defined joy, putting into words something that is so ambiguous to me. I also loved how they interchanged the names of the trinity throughout. Sometimes they listen to the Holy Spirit, sometimes to God, but mostly they listen to Jesus (this bothered me at first - but I like that they do this as it really embodies the definition of the trinity). And it is all done in a balanced way that is not over-reacting to a certain group of Christians.
My husband and I have already implemented the "church of two" and I'm thinking of how to live this out with my children. I'm so glad I read this book and I'm looking forward to their next one as well.
This book defines joy as an emotion or a feeling. This is not the biblical definition. They equate joy with how a mother feels about a baby or even the feeling of eating chocolate
The definition of joy that is referred to in scripture is an objective internal state of being that comes from a covenantal relationship with God and his purpose
Also, they don’t seem to understand the word church in the context of the early church Ecclesia primarily means group it is not the same as assembling or gathering. And the assembling and gathering does have a definition and the core of it is the love banquet.
Overall not particularly ground shaking for me, but still it offers a valuable renewal of perspective. Would recommend for anyone serving in ministry or going out to plant churches, especially those who are starting to burn out. Also great for personal reflection… am I being compelled by joy to serve (in every area) or are there some ways where I’m being fueled by simple duty, guilt, or shame? Maybe a mixture?
Favorite book I’ve read on church-planting/the church - and I’ve read a ton. This addresses so many issues with the western church AND mindsets for global missions. It gives definition to the “easy yoke” and “abundant life” Christ promises.
Absolutely loved this book. I'm done with traditional church. I want to be fueled by joy not guilt & shame. Its all about community & relationships not buildings & salaries!
