Downburst, number 2 in the Rachel Hatch Series from L T Ryan.
An address scribbled on a piece of paper leads Rachel Hatch to New Mexico. It's the only lead she has in the two-decade old mystery shrouding her father's death. It should be a simple in-and-out investigation, but her plans change when she finds herself in the cross hairs of a local gang.

Exposing corruption at the highest levels of local government while ending the stranglehold on a small town by a local biker gang is Hatch's ultimate goal while trying to find answers to her father's death and the scribbled note.
I really felt the atmosphere, the ghost town, the desert, the secrets, the good people, the nasty villains, bikers.
Rachel Hatch is a great character , tough in some ways but not invisible, sometimes too soft for her own good.
Well paced, good action, gripping and tense. Rachel Hatch must learn one thing (authors) never leave someone behind alive, they come back !!
Four stars. Just ordered number three in the series...
The Impressive Rachel Hatch Continues Her Search For Info About Her Dad, Tackling Several Dangerous Situations...
Rachel Hatch is an amazing woman, one who can stop you with her hands or any weapon, then reach out to a scared, mixed up teen with an offer of help...She has traveled to New Mexico following an address found as she tries to unfold the mystery of her Dad's death. But when she happens upon a group beating a young man badly she does what her heart tells her, and quickly rains blows upon the feisty young men, stopping the beating and protecting the victim. But the young man she fought for is Not happy, and Rachel un-knowingly puts herself and a loving family in harm's way, by an enemy that travels swiftly with inflicting harm for revenge on their minds... With no one in town, even the police, interested in dealing with the threat, Rachel finds herself alone, determined to protect those she put in danger. And she does it Her way, taking no prisoners and always on the attack first! I really enjoy this character, a woman who thinks for herself and has all the tools needed to do as she believes is Right! She makes enemies with so many but is trying to do the right thing for the 'little' guys, who find they have no say against their enemies. A fast-paced, thrilling adventure, with scenes that have you in New Mexico alongside Rachel, looking for anyone who knew her father, and finding kindness in some spots, then complete savagery in others... I highly recommend this series to all who enjoy a story that you are pulled immediately in to, with a strong-willed person who fights for right anywhere she goes! The authors have done an amazing job bringing us books you can not put down!!!
Hmm. After feeling like I had possibly found a new series to lose myself in, I can say I was very wrong! I have the same complaints I had with the first book: toooo much detail about guns. And FAR too much detail about every single move Hatch makes when she is fighting someone. This series is far too unrealistic for me.
I read a review that said: "I made it to the end, believing very little of this Hatch character’s abilities only to find out she’s more powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet, and able to leap tall buildings at a single bound. I doubt that I will be alongside as she searches for a priest somewhere in Africa." Amen, Tom Dinen!!😂
I'm not sure whether the protagonist was supposed to be a knight in shining armor, or a one woman wrecking crew. Rachel Hatch rides into a small New Mexico town on a personal mission and with her own self-righteous ideas of right and wrong whether the inhabitants want her interference or not. She proceeds to cure all the towns ills leaving behind a trail of bodies in her own version of a vigilante posse. In the mean time she leaves a wake of fire and destruction on the town's inhabitants.
The writing was redundant, covering the same ground numerous times. Too much internal thought and self-bashing throughout the story. The plot ground on and on with little action excepts scenes of Hatch singlehandedly taking down the bad guys. In the end, she finds a clue to her own personal mystery, then rides away into the sunset.
Where I have initially given this 3.5 ☆ I am really torn so I am between 3-3.5.
I really like Rachel Hatch as a character and a lead in a series. Hatch is kickarse although she went off half cocked on this one. Hatch has honour and a knightress in shining armour complex. You can't right all the wrongs in the world. The road to hell is truly paved with good intentions.
The reason why Hatch went down to New Mexico was only tied up at the end of the book. To find out more about her father's death.
There is a lot of show and not enough tell IMO. This has turned into a maybe series to continue.
I first thought this book was an extension of Jack Ryan. I made it to the end, believing very little of this Hatch character’s abilities only to find out she’s more powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings at a single bound. I doubt that I will be alongside as she searches for a priest somewhere in Africa. As Joey once said, “Come on Man”.
Wow! Rachel Hatch is back with a vengeance and stirring up trouble in her search for her father's killer. Great action thriller that continues this suspenseful action-packed saga.
This book has a different tone than Book 1, yet not disappointing at all. I was riveted in my reading on every page trying to figure out how everything would finish up in the end. Yikes!!
I had a love-hate relationship with this installment, though. Although I greatly enjoyed the storyline and plot, I saw a different side to Hatch's character that revealed a more emotionally unstable side that clouded her previous "uncanny" ability to see problems and plan solutions before taking actions. Perhaps this more impulsive Hatch was a manifestation of prior battlefield traumas, but it gave me ulcers trying to understand her motives both conscious and unconscious. Hold on!!!
The fast story narration and realistic dialogue brought me into the middle of the action, yet with only enough details to bring the storyline to life. It was a fast and exciting read, although at times approaching the fantastic. The characters were believable and essential to the plotline, while adding enough backstory to create interest and suspicion in this small town desert setting.
I appreciated the satisfying last several chapters, which also set the stage for Book 3. I look forward to the next installment, the first few chapters of which are included in the Kindle edition. (I never preread future book series installments because I want to take in the whole story at once.) My only disappointment was that no Audible narration was available when I read the book, something I hope the author and publisher resolve before the next installment.
Finally, I'm not sure how I feel about collaborative authors with a book series because of what I see as character discontinuity, but that's my pet peeve and I still enjoyed the book.
Well, this is the second book in this series, and I think it just might be the last for me. I liked the first book and was looking forward to what was going to come next for Rachel. Unfortunately, this book took things WAY, way too far and passed any type of believability factor for me.
I am totally willing to suspend reality in fiction books. In fact, some of my favorite series have MC's in them that have almost superman level skills. But there is also a development that occurs with that to help support the extreme actions that they excel at. This book, and the book before it, never really does that. She just becomes a super hero level character.
We have Rachel continuing on her journey to find out what happened to her father (he was murdered) and has her arriving at a small town in New Mexico. Then, the only way I can described what happens next is that she becomes a one person demolition team. She takes on not one, but two motorcycle gangs - and without going into spoilers, let's just say that not many of them are left alive at the end.
This is where this series lost me. I can't even begin to describe the events of this book. The risks she takes and the utter craziness of her behavior. Things like she walks into a bar with 20 bad guys who want her dead - with no back up. While at the same time talking smack and threatening the leader. The impulsiveness of some of her actions had me mentally shaking my head, while at the same time wanting to shake some sense into her. It became very annoying.
Rachel definitely has some growing to do. Her character definitely needs some development and I honestly hope that she experiences some growth in the next upcoming books. Unfortunately, I will not be around to witness it.
The story was fast paced but Book 2 had a lot more dead bodies from Hatch's actions where Book 1 I felt she used her head more. She came in like a bull dozer in this story wreaking havoc wherever she went. Chasing after her Dad's mystery from Book 1 tracks (though I might have spent more time investigating things in Colorado) but following the lead that ends Book 2 seems a bit much
I like the first book and figured I will continue the series. Hatch is trying to find out what really happened with her dad and A note takes her to another state. Unfortunately it seems trouble follows her there. You gotta love small towns with their secrets and this book has them. I will not divulge those secrets. I do like the character Hatch: strong, independent, and not afraid. The issue I have is that the author makes other characters a level or two below her fierceness. I wasn’t looking for balance or someone just as important as the main character. Yet, I did yearn for the same level of intensity at times like Hatch.
Also, some of the scenarios (esp the bad guys) have been played over and over again either in books i have read in the past or TV shows. This is not to say the book wasn’t good because it is. I just want more. Hopefully the third book has it.
Rachel Hatch is on a mission. To find the person or people responsible for her father's death. Or rather, murder. Her journey leads her to a small town in New Mexico. When she goes to the aid of a teenager getting brutalized by gang members her problems begins. It was a imitation into a gang and now she has become their enemy. Further complications arise when she befriends a young girl who is murdered by a motorcycle gang who controls the small town by threats of violence. They have a mutual agreement of peace with the town mayor and the sheriff. Non stop action. Book two in this series. An excellent read!
It has been a while since I got in to a book to the point I didn't want to put it down. Finally it clicked. The authors knew what they were writing and nothing was out of tune. Descriptions of weapons, terms and uses were spot on. Injuries from fights matched the action and I could feel real emotion. Thanks for a great read - already pre ordered the next!
I waited patiently for this book, and it was well worth it. What a fantastically different storyline, based around a female operator, whom is womanly yet tough, where compassion is uppermost in her mind, but violence and retribution can follow hard and fast. A brilliantly portrayed story with I hope many more to come. Thank you LT and Brian, don't be too long with number 3 please 😀👍
You'll never see her coming if you are in her way!
Wow, one of a few women who can kick ass and does it her way. On a mission to find out how and why her father died is ex Army CID warrant officer, Rachel Hatch. This is the second book in the series as she searches for information and ends up in confrontations with a motorcycle gang controlling a small town in New Mexico. Terrific story. Can't wait for the third book in the series.
Rachel Hatch is looking into the death of her father. She recently discovered that he has did not die in a hunting accident but was most probably killed by someone he had worked with when he was much younger. She is on the hunt but runs to trouble along the way.
LT Ryan is one of my favorites and his new Rachel Hatch series is fun. She’s a kick ass and take names type which is always fun. This second book in the series is a little far fetched but aren’t all thrillers? Anyway, it’s a quick read and worth reading.
Wow! Loved the real action and continual fluid story flow. Hatch is a female Jack Reacher!! Get those 2 together and they'll take down any terrorist outfit.
In really enjoyed the character Rachael Hatch. It seems she carries a chip on her shoulder most of the time but she is well-intentioned. The story was interesting and moved right along. I am looking forward to her next adventure.
I Iove the Rachael Hatch series...Finally a badass woman at the helm and she doesn't disappoint! Down burst is filled with action and drama...intrigue and mystery show up for the party too...If you liked the first book, this one well not disappoint you...I'm already foaming at the mouth to read the 3rd. book!
I would say that I have never met a female with all her skill and capabilities, then also not sure have anyone else either. However a interesting story.
Rachel Hatch’s character reminds me of Jack Reacher. The first two novels have genuine intensity, mystery, and lots of action. I find myself rooting for her throughout her adventures. I can’t wait to read number 3. Dr. C
Rachel Hatch is truly unbelievable! I would not want to be on her wrong side!! She will look after her fellow humans to protect in any manner of their needs!!
