It's not easy being half-mortal, half-witch. At least, not for Sabrina Spellman. She just discovered that her dad is Satan... and that it's her destiny to rule Hell.

As usual, Sabrina's got other plans for her future. She's figured out a way to trap her father... but he's caged in the body of her boyfriend, Nick Scratch. Now the love of her life is stuck in Hell... with Satan stuck inside him.

Sabrina knows there's a way to get Nick back while also keeping dear old dad out of commission. She just has to figure out what it is. Unfortunately, her loyal cousin Ambrose is unavailable because he's off hunting Father Blackwood, the evil former head of the Church of Night.

Fortunately, Sabrina's still got her mortal friends, Roz, Harvey, and Theo. So when her aunt Zelda, now the church's high priestess, mentions an ancient quest that might help open the gates of Hell, Sabrina and her friends are all in. But Zelda failed to mention that the quest has some perils of its own...

I’ve not finished this book yet but I want to talk about a pressing issue about it.
And it’s not just the Harbrina agenda this book is pushing (the author is team Harvey so what should we have expected?!) it’s about making Nick OOC even worst than they did in third season.
I want season one and two Nick. The hot, supporting and feminist boyfriend.
The open minded guy who grow up in a toxic environment, who rejected privilege for the girl he love.
The only one who value Sabrina for both of her side, witch and mortal.
But, putting aside this topic, which I will talk more once I finish the book, what make me angry was when, in the book, Nick think back about the night with the angels, when Harvey said something about him LETTING Sabrina going fight alone and Nick replied “I don’t let her doing anything”.
I was so happy about that, finally a male interest who doesn’t act like the main character is a glass doll who can break but as a boyfriend who know how strong his girlfriend is and support her for that.
Well, the author change made Nick realize that he was wrong and Nick was right!
No, it wasn’t about the “alone”! It was clearly about controlling and taming her! Harvey was the one in wrong, not Nick!
I’m so tired about controlling love interest scared of their girlfriend power, anchor-men who keep their girlfriends down and who don’t realize how much strong they are!
I want feminist Nick, the Nick I fell in love for not some bullshit Pro Harbrina Agenda!

Now I've a new book out, I get to speak on the book before that without unduly influencing others. As always, ignore the stars because it rates how much I enjoyed writing it!

If you'd told me I would regularly tear up over a character named Nicholas Scratch three years ago, I would've called you a liar. It was extremely fun and an honor to talk out and come up with Nick's past in this, informing both his flaws and his virtues. I felt awful leaving him in a dark place, but as this book is the runup to season 3, so it had to be. I hope I showed through his last stand that no matter who ends up with Sabrina (soon you'll all know) he's a hero.

The Fright Club are heroes too--truly friends who will go to hell for you are ride or die. This was very much a friendship book--and friendships can be messy and awful, but also glorious and enduring past pain. My favorite POV to write was Theo's (finally I got to call him Theo!) though perhaps the most fun was Ambrose and Prudence's wild witch romantic adventure.

One thing I've always loved about CAOS is how surrounded by love Sabrina is--her friends, her romantic partners, and most especially her family--and how much of her strength and character is built on that. So it seems fitting to end with love.

Sabrina fans, I loved the hell out of being part of this. Thanks so much to all of you.

Each time I pick up a book by Sarah Rees Brennan, that returns me to Greendale, I am floored by her writing style and ability to perfectly create new scenarios for the characters we know and love.

Rees Brennan creates deep and complex tales, following the direction of the hit Netflix series, yet making it completely her own.

Ambrose and Prudence's chapters are filled with so much action and light. They lift this book up with their ease, their flirtatiousness and their way of life. But you can feel their pain, through the lightness of their quest. It gives such depth to the book, overall.

Harvey is such a potato and I just want him to be happy. He is warm and kind and caring. He sees the best in everyone and everything. He is the light in Sabrina's increasingly dark world.

Path of Night was a fantastic, action packed, dive into Sabrinas world. Of fighting inner demons, of learning who and how to trust. As always I loved the multiple points of view, each gives the book something different, humour, love, drama, action. They each play a part, just as the characters do.

Path of Night is fast paced and shows you what feels like behind the scenes, between Netflix seasons. It lets us understand what is happening in the characters minds. Well written and engaging this is a great read.

Thank you to the team at Scholastic Australia for sending me out a review copy of this title.

Months waiting for this book and I read it in less than a day

It was a bittersweet read, more bitter than sweet actually. But I love the way Sarah gives a new light to the characters, and the way she write it made me see all in my mind.

I’m still processing the content of the book. I mean, Nick is suffering, I’m suffering...

Now, we need a book between part 3 and 4? Definitely

SRB always delivers. These are facts. Though the third installment in this series had plenty of her trademark humor, it also dug deeper into these characters in a way I wasn't totally prepared for (which is silly, because that's basically Her Brand). It made me cry more than I thought it would. I loved these books so much they made me love the show, and I can only hope they continue to bring such richness to its world.

And shout-out to Theo, MVP of this book. Also if this doesn't take a turn for Harvey/Sabrina/Nick, I don't even know.

This is the perfect book for #MagicForEveryone🌈 today!

There was a lot more focus on Nick's story. I suggest watching the show before reading these so things make more sense.

I love this and I'm absolutely stunned by Sarah Reese Brennan's writing style in the way she just captures all the characters emotions and thoughts. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book which hopefully will come out after the show's part 4!!

" 'What are you, Sabrina Spellman, Morning Star on the Path of Night?' "

3.5/5

I thought this was a trilogy, so the cliff-hanger was a frustrating surprise.

Sabrina, Theo, Roz, and Harvey must go on individual quests to help save Nick from Hell. A couple of the quests were anticlimactic, Theo’s particularly, though I did like that in this book we get to see the side characters' POVs of previous events.

The writing and humor are the best parts of this book. I also like most of the characters and their interactions with each other.

I’ll obviously read the next one (there better be a next one!).

A well-written tale that continued on in a satisfying way from the first two stories.

I enjoyed the alternating points of view between the members of the Fright Club, Ambrose and Nick. It was nice to get a few more insights into their different perspectives as they all tried to find ways to rescue Nick from Hell.

The relationships between Sabrina, Harvey, Roz and Theo were also given a bit more depth, which allowed the reader to understand their friendship dynamic and love for each other even more.

And finally, how fun is it that Sabrina and Archie exist in the same universe? I loved all the little references to their Riverdale counterparts peppered throughout this story.

Thank you @scholastic_aus for gifting me a copy to read and review!

4/5.

I have really enjoyed this series. I think the books do a good job at complementing the tv series while providing more background and dimension to the characters. This book made me want to rewatch the shows again.

Summary

After uncovering a horrible secret about her father, Sabrina has little time to recover or relax. On a mission to raid Hell in hopes of rescuing her boyfriend, she and her friends must first pass a terrifying test.
Ambrose and Prudence make some personal progress on their vengeance trip to find and kill Faustus Blackwood. Meanwhile the remaining academy students struggle to recover at the Spellman house.

Personal Opinion

This was a really good read before I jump into the 3rd season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Sarah Rees Brennan has a very smooth writing style and I love the new challenges and perspectives she comes up with for the characters in Greendale (and Hell).
I really enjoyed Nick's backstory being explained further to show how he became the Nick he is now.
Riverdale was mentioned a couple of times in this one. I'm in full support (and very much hoping for) a possible crossover of the two in the future.
I'm guessing the ending will line up well with beginning of season 3.

Another great read about Sabrina and co in between series episodes. It was good to hear about trials they had tried to get Nick out and also more of Nick's experience in Hell too as we don't see that much of it.

Path of Night bridges the space between Part 2 and Part 3 of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, with everyone’s favourite half witch- half mortal, with her best friends in tow, conjure up a dangerous quest to the murky depths of hell to rescue Nick Scratch, Sabrina’s love. After each of Sarah Rees Brennan’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina novelizations, I always feel like each one cannot be topped, but oh, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Sarah’s Sabrina novelizations are the gifts that just keep on giving for us fans, for each one perfectly and poignantly takes us into these characters’ minds that we love all so much and just adds such wonderful layers to their personalities, fleshing them out and giving us an insight as to how they feel and why they may act as they do, such as allowing Zelda’s maternal streak for Sabrina and Ambrose to come through, with a fierce protection for them both too which I just love! Sarah Rees Brennan writes Sabrina herself so vividly too, ringing true to the series’ brilliant lead who despite learning of her true lineage – being the Daughter of Lucifer himself, remains adamant that she’s a Spellman through and through. Path of Night is a completely enthralling adventure of a novelization, packed to the brim with magic, excitement, love, friendship and everything in between, it’s definitely a must read for every fan of the show!
There’s so much that I enjoyed throughout Path of Night! The plot itself was completely exciting with the most right amount of angst (with Nabrina being apart, but one constantly thinking of the other, oh my shipper heart!). I absolutely adored Sarah Rees Brennan’s Nick Scratch, he was lamenting Sabrina so much and you could just feel his love for her oozing off the pages! Completely vise versa too, for ‘Brina missed her Nick so devastatingly, you could just feel their longing for one another and with Nick in the literal fiery depths of hell where he’s getting tormented by Lillith and nightmares of his past but thinking that as long as Sabrina’s safe, then he being trapped there is worth it. My heart!
Season of the Witch and Daughter Of Chaos gifted us with some utterly amazing Prudence and Ambrose / Pambrose scenes, with Path of Night being no exception! Their scenes together were giving me life! I love how Sarah Rees Brennan’s Ambrose is completely unafraid of talking about his love for Sabrina and I love how he freely talks to Prudence, he’s not shy about his adoration for Prudence too, not shy about spontaneously holding her hand and reciting romantic quotes her way. He’s such an amazing contrast to her steely self, both of them are completely fierce but I love how Ambrose is so open towards her in expressing himself and saying how he feels and suggesting to Prudence that he knows she’s not completely unfeeling as she often declares herself to be. Utterly exquisite, so much fun and utterly feely to read their scenes, I couldn’t get enough of them!
Oh, the friendships! Whilst Harvey, who is just perfectly depicted as the wholesome bean that he is, will freely admit that Nick Scratch isn’t his favourite person, where ‘Brina is concerned he will always love her so he will so what he can to help her in her quest to save her love! Harvey and Sabrina had some utterly tender, wonderful scenes! I loved how the fragility of their friendship was explored throughout this novel and Harvey and Sabrina’s close friendship with Theo was utterly precious to read about too! I just loved every ounce of this third installment of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina novels and I earnestly hope there’s an infinite number to come!

PATH OF NIGHT is another great installment of the books based on the Netflix show, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. This book takes place in between Parts 2 and 3 of the show and follows the main characters through several points-of-view. Sabrina and her friends, Roz, Theo, and Harvey, are trying to find a way to save Nick, who is trapped in hell. Ambrose is traveling with Prudence to help her find her father, who has taken her brother and sister. Hilda and Zelda are managing to control a house of witches and warlocks who were displaced when the Academy was destroyed.

What I loved: The books are heavily introspective and delve into each character in a way that makes them more whole, flawed, and lovely. I particularly appreciated the insight into Nick in this book, and the beautiful thoughts of Nick, as well as Ambrose, Theo, and the other key characters. There is something really special about meeting these characters in a book, and Brennan really takes us deeper into their psyche and thought processes in a way that enhances the characters we know on the surface from the show.

This book focuses a lot on love, its necessity and its complexity. A lot of characters are driven by love, even if they don't want to be, and their other thoughts are in conflict because of it. There is the love of friends, the love between former-lovers-now-friends, between family, and between the families that people make. All of these are complex, beautiful, and so genuine in the book.

There is also a nice touch of adventure, with the quest(s) that the "Fright Club" (e.g. Sabrina, Roz, Harvey, and Theo) go on with the Lady of the Lake to find the tools they need to rescue Nick. I also really appreciate the touches of humor throughout, as there are subtle touches of comedy among the macabre. There are also some really insightful/thought-provoking moments throughout as well. A particular favorite of mine is the side conversation about the inherent misogyny of the Phoenix in the X-Men movies, with how powerful women need to be subdued/destroyed.

Final verdict: PATH OF NIGHT is an excellent companion book to the Netflix show that gives us deeper characterizations and new insights into the characters we love. Highly recommend for fans of the show or for fans of thought-provoking YA fantasy.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Yesss. The darkness of this book was back on track! We almost lost it there in the second book but BOOM BABY it is back and I AM loving it!!!!
Path of Night picks up straight were part 2 ended where Nick is in Hell. Ambrose and Prudence are travelling to Europe to kill Father Blackwood and Sabrina is still balancing her two lives. Is it still like the Netflix series? Yes. Which is better? None they are both dark and beautiful!!
Brennan dives right back into this beautiful tale, with the eerie lives of Sabrina and her friends and doesn’t lack detail nor fails to show these characters grow and it is beautiful!! Plus you see the struggle that Sabrina goes through to get Nick back, not only taking on a quest with her friends but also you can see that her mind is constantly feeling guilty that Nick is locked up in hell.

"I'm not denying you" said Nick. "I'm defying you. Please consult a dictionary".

Sarah Rees Brennan, keep these Sabrina books coming because I am loving them!

This story picks up straight after Part 2 with Nick in Hell and Sabrina on a mission to get him back with the help of The Fright Club and Ambrose and Prudence are on the hunt to find and end Father Blackwood!

This story is dark, beautiful and full of depth as we follow both parties on their quests. The character development is fantastic as each character fights their internal and literal demons throughout the story.

The writing style is engaging and easy to read (I finished this one in a day!) If you're a fan of the Netflix show then I 100% recommend picking these up!

Thank you so much  Scholastic for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review

The best one yet. Brennan really tries to makes sense out of the third season.

I enjoyed the alternating points of view, Theo is the best, I'm glad I get to know him better. The Fright Club was given a bit more depth, which makes their friendships dynamic more understandable.

The story is the classic quest one, but again, characters and relationships are more important than plot.

Archie's abs get cameo.

It's bittersweet meditations about love and friendship which bunch of great quotes at the beginning of every chapter that corresponded well with the intertextuality of season 3.

I really hope there will be another book from Brennan with season 4 events and characters. I would be glorious.

This book receives 3 stars from me as did the last for a few reasons. This book did continue to have chapters from other character’s point of view which I love! But they didn’t say who was speaking at the beginning of the chapter so you have to read a few sentences to get your baring. Also, I’m still not a fan of how you have to watch the show to read the book. I do like the original story lines but I think they could also have written books that covered the same stuff the show did for those that prefer to read instead of watch. I do hope there will be a fourth book on the way!

I know we don't really have control over these things but if you're planning on having a lockdown birthday this year, I'd highly recommend against it. It's samey and boring and likely to not be the best day in the year which is what it is definitely meant to be. The only shining beacon on my birthday this year was the release of Sarah Rees Brennan's third Chilling Adventures of Sabrina tie-in, Path of Night.

Path of Night takes place immediately after the events in part 2 of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Nick Scratch is in Hell and Ambrose and Prudence have travelled to Europe to track down Father Blackwood. If you've watched part 3 of the series, you'll know that there's not very much time between the two series at all and so Sarah Rees Brennan takes a deep dive into each of the characters, giving us more insight than ever into Sabrina, Nick, Harvey, Ros, Theo, Prudence and Ambrose.

In Path of Night, Sabrina learns that in order to save Nick, she must appeal to the Lady of the Lake and embark on a series of quests along with Harvey, Ros and Theo. The only problem is that the quests will come at a great personal cost and one which the friends might not be able or willing to pay.

After loving the first two of Sarah Rees Brennan's tie-ins, I knew I was going to love Path of Night and I'm left thirsting for more CAOS and definitely more of Sarah Rees Brennan's novelisations. Alas, I do not have a date yet for either part 4 of CAOS or another novelisation to follow Path of Night.

I listened to the audiobook edition of this novel, as I did with Season of the Witch and Daughter of Chaos and it was so good to listen to Jessie Vilinsky and Nicol Zanzarella again. I've long been ready to listen to anything these two wonderful narrators read and Path of Night was no exception.

For feeding my insatiable obsession with all things CAOS-related, I give Path of Night an excellent four out of five stars and cannot wait to see what comes next from this franchise. Highly recommended for all fans of Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and lovers of superior paranormal YA fiction.

Thank you to @scholastic_au for sending me a copy of this one. I love reading Sarah Rees Brennan's novelisations of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, they add a little bit extra to the characters of the show. This one is set between Part 2 and Part 3 of the show and explores Sabrinas first attempt at rescuing Nick from Hell. The story has POV's from Sabrina in Greendale, Nick in Hell and Ambrose and Prudence in Europe hunting Father Blackwood. I find these books give more insight into each character, in this one we learn more about Nick's past as he struggles in Hell. Sabrina and her mortal friends have to face some truths they may not want to on there quest to save Nick. And Prudence and Ambrose learn more about each other. I love that in the books Salem talks to Sabrina. Aunt Hilda and Zelda are also present throughout the story helping and supporting Sabrina after the events that led to Nick going to Hell and her finding out who her true father is.

The previous two books felt a lot closer to the series than this one and to me, I assume, that it sets in between the events in Part 2 and Part 3. I ASSUME, OKAY, I ASSUME.

Overall, I really love the story. I also love the part with Harvey and the ghost kids. That was so so cute. Also, Lilith reigning as queen in hell? She really said "You could be the king, but watch the queen conquer." HOHOHOHOHO

Anyway, 4/5 from me. It was a quick read for me and I was expecting something a little closer to Part 3 but oh well, I hope there's another book coming! Would love to read a little more about Caliban ;)

I was worried this was going to basically be the written version of the third season, and there are many similarities, but this is essentially a different story. Sabrina and her friends never even make it into Hell and there's literally one appearance by Satan. Overall, I think I enjoyed this more than the third season.

I will start with the positive things. The book is well-written. The story is interesting. I mostly enjoy the inner dialogues of the characters and the backstories it provides.
Still the book should be part of the canon of the Netflix show. However, reading the books (this one in particular) I feel it is a fan fiction written after the Part 3 was finished. To me the characters don't act like themselves from the show but as a continuance of the books. For example, the Fright club spending time in the mortuary doesn't make much sense to me. The interactions with the witches and ghost children as well. Habrina is too strong, something that I don't think we see in Part 2 but it is alluded to in Part 3. The whole quest thing doesn't make sense with Part 3 as well - I think it would have been at least mentioned with Sabrina, Harvey, Theo and Roz being sure they see Nick. I'm a bit confused if Nick's backstory here is canon or not - a lot of questions for his time in Hell as well. I still hope we will get some answers in Part 4.
