Even though it says the author states that this is intended to be a reference guide, it was so short that I read it straight through. I'd recommend it as a great overview of what to expect the first few weeks with a newborn. As for the rest of it, I found that it falls short of a helpful reference guide, and the author shouldn't have taken that angle. Just searching for things on a little hand computer is way more efficient and provides much more information than this book. Your baby is 3 months old? Just google 3-month milestones. He tries to be quirky sometimes, but it's just not helpful, like comparing the weight of a baby to an aluminum stepladder or a bald eagle. I also found his advice and facts very anecdotal; the author doesn't cite research or studies and often states wives-tales as facts.
While the title states that this is for dads, it really isn't dad-specific. It has a few lines about how dads should help out taking care of their wives, but that's about it. The books by Armin Brott contain much more information which pertains specifically to fathers.

I know these books are written for Dad’s but I’ve found them to be so helpful, especially this one, for tracking baby’s first milestones, and what to expect from mom postpartum.

My husband and I have been reaching for this book every month to see what next to expect development-wise from our daughter and it’s truly been a joy (I, however, did cheat and read ahead because I’m just too excited for what’s next)!

I recommend Kulp’s books to any first-time parent. As someone who’s truly winging it over here, it was nice to have an easy to read companion book to remind me we’re doing just fine 😂

Oh man this is a useful little book. It's a quick read and easy reference guide, and the checklists? the easy starting points for more in-depth research if needed? :chefskiss: over here. It may be marketed to dads, but this is handy for anyone in the trenches of sleep deprivation who just. needs. some info.

Dads are parents too and while that does seem obvious, it is hard to find a parenting book directed as first-time dads. So this book, written in a no-nonsense and entertaining style is someone of a rarity on the market. It explains to dads in plain English how to do the basic things that babies expect of parents such as changing diapers or burping. What I really appreciate about this book is the fact that the author gets to the point rather than provide a lot of background and addition hints and tips, the book contains brief guides on what to do when taking care of a baby. And to allow the proud dad to mark all the important steps in the development, making sure that the baby is keeping up with the competition, the book also has a nice list of milestones that are worth remembering - allowing the dads to maintain their competitive spirit, while making sure baby is healthy.
I enjoyed reading the book and think that it offers great advice for first time dads.

I received a free copy from the publisher.

I'll admit, I'm neither a parent nor a father BUT, I think this is an excellent book that any new father would appreciate as a gift. It's not big or overwhelming, it can fit easily in a: pocket, bathroom, car door, or gym bag, it's not too wordy, it's filled with great advice and illustrations, and it's formatted in a way that makes it easy to pick up and put down. There are checklists, real life scenarios, and tips and tutorials. Some is common sense, but other things may be new to first time parents, especially dads. It manages to not be condescending, only helpful and fun. As the back says, this is a "user manual for dads."

2.4 stars is actually a good review considering my disdain for non fictions.

Much like it’s predecessor this book is structure to be easily consumed while in the adventure. Reading it cover to cover is brutal.

Mostly what I learned from this book is parenting advice is all over the map. If you look hard enough you can find someone that will say why you’re looking to hear. This guy was at odds with another author Ive chosen to trust. I found it hard to trust his advice after I noticed that.

I will definitely reference this book when I’m up at 3am. I will never read it again cover to cover. Can’t recommend this book to anyone. Thrilled I figured out how to listen at faster speeds.

This was an awesome book that gives some solid advice to new dads. The style is very lighthearted and approachable which made it very enjoyable to read. It is tailored for men which is awesome because guys do sometimes need a very different set of advice in order to be the best dads they can be.

I felt like the book was great in discussing recommended/non recommended purchases but I do think that lens could have been turned to a more in-depth discussion of the details of the items. They are discussed only at a cursory level (although I suppose that wasn't the focus).

This book was not for me, and I wouldn't recommend this book as a new-to-parenting book. If you're a new father and want the necessary information to be successful, get a book that has all the information, instead of a person's biased opinions of picking and choosing what was successful for them. I wouldn't call this a bad book just not for me. If you like to crowdsource your parenting advice, then I do recommend this book for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed “We’re Pregnant” and “We’re Parents” was every bit as informative, helpful, and funny as its predecessor. This is an essential pocket-size reference guide that follows you through the first year of your baby’s life, allowing you to digest a month at a time, read and reread. Adrian Kulp explains things in a sensible and accessible manner. He doesn’t seek to overwhelm and he isn’t preaching from an ivory tower. In my opinion, this is a must-read for all new dads.

Also a good reference book for the soon to be father. He has a way of talking about everything without freaking you out and making it easy to see what the next step is. I really appreciate his checklists. The pregnancy book has been great, and I’m sure I’ll be referencing this once our baby comes in a few months.

My husband and I had read the “we’re pregnant” by the same author and really enjoyed checking in on that weekly. This book has the same method of organization making it easy to digest and also a nice nightstand companion to remind yourself what’s coming up because I personally can’t remember anything (thanks mom brain)

Short and sweet. What this book lacks in detail or depth it makes up for in brevity and accessibility. It's really a useful reference, but don't get your expectations up that it will answer all your questions!

These books should be required reading

Absolutely love this series. It has helped me so much on this journey through pregnancy. I wish I had found them before my first daughter. But oh boy have they helped with the journey of our next two. Thanks so much

Not my favorite. Good basics, but not my style and very different from our experience. Felt like info was better from apps like huckleberry and other baby blogs which are written at a similar depth.

Not that the information is bad but it lacks detail. It feels like a book written for people who don't enjoy reading but want to claim they read a book about parenting.

AMAZING and practical resource for new dads. I love that it was broken down by month and I read it in these segments over the course of my daughter’s first year.

Helpful little book with useful checklists. Not necessarily groundbreaking info but nice and consolidated which can make it very useful if you find yourself in a panic right before baby arrives.

Good information for term baby expectations, but nothing in regards to pre term babies. Unfortunately this entire book was nothing more than what I already knew.

This was a perfectly fine and inoffensive Dad book. I don't find them very helpful, at least not in advance! Doesn't work well as an audiobook.

Good book to use to learn about how your baby will develop month by month over its first year. He also explains different things to look out for in your home to ensure baby’s safety once they start moving.

Basic but good

Filled with common sense and things I would have never thought of. Appreciated the monthly breakdown of what to expect 👍
