Heinz G. Konsalik (pseudonym of Heinz Günther) was a German novelist.

Many of his books deal with war and showed the German human side of things as experienced by their soldiers and families at home, for instance Das geschenkte Gesicht (The Mutilated Face), which deals with a German soldier's recovery after his sledge ran over a personnel mine and destroyed his face, and how this affected his relationship with his wife at home. It places no judgment on the German position in the war and simply deals with human beings in often desperate situations, doing what they were forced to do under German military law.

Der Arzt von Stalingrad (The Doctor of Stalingrad) made him famous and was adapted into a movie in 1958. Some 83 million copies sold of his 155 novels made him the most popular German novelist of the postwar era and many of his novels were translated and sold through book clubs. He is buried in Cologne.

Dr. Heinz Volkmar is a successful heart surgeon. Without family, with busy work schedule and an occasional love affair with dr. Angela Bluthgen, and only love affair because she is too emancipated to be his girlfriend, she likes to call the shots. So what can he do, when the date of his vacation comes? He goes to Sardinia, alone. To forget about work, swim, live on the beach and eat local food. But everything changes when a young girl named Anna appears one night in front of him, saying, someone attacked her. He is a gentleman, he can appreciate a woman's beauty, so of course he will help her. Is she really an innocent victim? His morals are later put to the test. This story is really interesting, I enjoyed reading it and it raises a lot of questions. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that it kind of ended abruptly …the story could develop more, it's way to short.

It's a good book. Hard to start, but I'm the middle starts to have a good speed. I enjoyed the medicine in this and its overall interesting. Some parts are left without a conclusion, that was maddening.
