From the Rooftops

Rate this book
In this sequel to the acclaimed novel, The Deceit of Riches, award-winning author V M Karren takes the reader to the far reaches of the globe to explore and root out hidden corruption, through the eyes of two American spies and one heroine of the Romanian Revolution. From the Rooftops is part two of The Deceit of Riches Series.

After popular protests are attacked by government snipers, the people of Romania capture and execute their communist dictator, and democratic Romania is reborn. The heroes of this revolution are students, miners, a poet and even Bucharest’s children. After decades of terror and oppression, the elation of new-found freedom rings through the land.

Less than ten years after her courageous march for freedom in Bucharest, a young banker finds herself caught up in the corruption that has flourished in Romania’s transition from communism to a free market. After the mysterious death of her fiancé, her suspicions lead her to take daring steps to expose the new tyrants of the criminal networks behind the scenes and take a stand for her family and country. The information she provides catches the attention of Peter Turner and Del Sanning (The Deceit of Riches), and together they form a common quest to bring down Eastern Europe’s most evil and elusive criminal.

From the peaceful hills and peasant life of northern Romania, to the crumbling urban jungle of Bucharest; from Kiev’s golden domes to the Black Sea port of Odessa, Ukraine, V M Karren uses his masterful insight into Eastern Europe’s reformation and the international criminal networks that besieged it, to weave a story of loyalty, courage and freedom you will not soon forget.

Since 1992 my travels around this wonderful world of ours have been my inspiration for my stories in letters, journal entries, around campfires, in short story form and in novels.

One story flows into another. One experience builds on the other, events tie us to each other in countless ways. Perspectives shift and come full circle.

After twenty-five years of gathering material, the time has now come to tell my stories to you. I hope you enjoy them. Follow along, step by grueling step, rejection letter by rejection letter and help me tell my story to the world.

You can follow the adventure at www.flybynightpress.com.

Hope to get to know you. --Val

Oh man, I need to know what happens next!! I found myself feeling this way the whole book. After reading The Deceit of Riches and loving it, I knew I needed to get my hands on this next story. The author definitely has a way with story-telling that keeps you engrossed the whole time. It is well thought-out and a great adventure. It kept me guessing the whole time. I find myself wanting to visit the cities in which the story takes place. The author obviously has a great deal of knowledge about these places in order to make his stories and characters come to life in the way that they do. Please tell me there are more books coming!!

Another fine novel by VM Karren! He’s written an intriguing and original story set in Eastern Europe, this time in Romania and neighboring countries. Wide-ranging in its characters and cultures, this book shows not only those who struggle to survive in dangerous times, but rapacious brokers hungry for even greater power, as well as patriots willing to risk everything for freedom. Definitely worth reading!

Karren's books make me want to TRAVEL!!!! His imagery is excellent and it makes me crave the real thing. Sicily just got bumped up in priority on my travel list. Karren's characters are complex and keep you guessing as to their real motivations which is a different kind of suspense then I am used to and I enjoyed it. I am hoping that this series will go on and on. There is certainly enough corruption in the world to give Karren ample locations and crooks!!
