Since I did not read this book cover to cover, I marked it as abandoned. However, from what I did read, I liked it. The book looks at 12 different shark species and follows the same format for each which I found very satisfying. The book details what the shark species looks like, where they live, what they eat, and more. Photographs, illustrations, and maps are used as visual aids; I could have done without the dead shark photographs but I understand that is not a problem for everyone. At the back of the book, 14 other sharks are given a page each with a photograph and a brief list of facts. I could see including this as independent reading for my shark lesson plan next year, but I would not buy it for my personal collection. Could be a good gift for a child with a lot of interest in sharks.
192 pgs. This is a fabulous book on sharks. Even if you are not a shark fan, you will learn so much about sharks and will not want to put this book down once you begin reading it. The facts are well-organized per shark accompanied by outstanding color photos. It would be a great book for research as well as recreational reading. I want to read more of this encyclopedia series. This book is highly recommended for Grades 3 - 5.
