"Scrivi dunque, ora che sei giovane, assurdità a ruota libera. Sii sciocco, sentimentale, imita Shelley, imita Sarnuel Smiles; dai corda a ogni impulso; fai ogni possibile errore di stile, grammatIca, gusto e sintassi; riversati; inciampa; libera la rabbia, l'amore, la satira con qualsiasi parola tu riesca ad afferrare, costringere o creare, in qualsiasi metro, prosa, poesia o borbottio che ti capiti sotto mano. Imparerai a scrivere. Ma se pubblichi, la tua libertà verrà incrinata; penserai a quello che dirà la gente; scriverai per gli altri mentre dovresti scrivere soltanto per te."

Una lettera ad un giovane poeta che l'ha pregata di aiutarlo ad affrontare la situazione in cui versa la sua vita diventa un divertente schizzo di alcuni scenari letterari dell'epoca.

(Adeline) Virginia Woolf was an English novelist and essayist regarded as one of the foremost modernist literary figures of the twentieth century.

During the interwar period, Woolf was a significant figure in London literary society and a member of the Bloomsbury Group. Her most famous works include the novels Mrs. Dalloway (1925), To the Lighthouse (1927), and Orlando (1928), and the book-length essay A Room of One's Own (1929) with its famous dictum, "a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction."
