Eighteen-year old Daria Jones feels trapped in the cow-strewn suburbs of Fresno, California. And with a father so overprotective he's installed video and thermal surveillance down the street, she doesn't get out much. Until the night he disappears.
Following the trail of notes he's left behind, Daria gathers three things: a dark force is hunting her, her father's fled to another world on a cryptic mission, and the only one left to trust is her ex-best friend, Alexander Anderson. The more she learns about her father's absence, the more she realizes she must go to this other world to find him. And Alexander is the only one who knows how to get there.
Amidst a world of diabolical creatures, ancient magic, and bizarrely intuitive vegetation, Daria must find her father before the dark force finds her. But the truth of who she really is could be her greatest enemy of all.

The Complete Pandoran Series Includes: Gaia's Secret The Keeper's Flame Breath of Dragons Heir of Pendel
Barbara Kloss loves adventures, and finds them through reading, writing, trekking through the wilderness, and gaming—though she doesn't consider herself a gamer. She just happens to like video games. RPGs, specifically. She’s also a classically-trained pianist, and so you'll often fined music referenced in her stories.
Barbara studied biochemistry at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA, and worked for years as a clinical laboratory scientist. She was lured there by mental images of colorful bubbling liquids in glass beakers. She was deceived.
She currently lives in northern California, with her gorgeous husband, three babies, and cat, Mr. Darcy, who finds them all barely tolerable. Author of the award-winning Gaia’s Secret Series, and international bestseller, The Gods of Men.
If your considering this book PLEASE read it! It's an amazing read!
This is actually my second time reading this story as I loved it THAT much. I find you can learn so much more the second time around. Little things that didnt click or you missed for all that's happening in so many different characters story lines both alone and interwoven that create the whole. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to choke Thad (lol come on he's annoying soon you'll get it). Alex and Daria have a long hard road to travel and I don't think you'll guess the ending to be quiet what you might expect. Hope you give it a chance and fall in love with it just as I have. Happy reading!
I liked the story despite Daria being such an annoyingly, frustrating main character. I yelled at the book a few times but wanted to know how it would end, thus reading on. Go figure.. lol. On that note, check it out and decide for yourself.
A young womans life changes in an instant. Daria who feels her life is boring and mundane, and her father too protective, finds herself running for safety when the farm she was raised on, is attacked by mysterious shadow creatures. Lifelong family friends arrive and bring her to the safety of her home. From there she is brought to a magical world, and Gaia is the life force of this world. She then learns that her fathet is a prince, and next in line for the throne. She also discovers that she has an older brother. This new world is filled with beauty, other wordly creatures and magic. It is a world full of light and beauty, but underneath the beauty a darkness is growing. A darkness that will soon spread throughout this world, and threaten Earth. A darkness that will demand sacrifices from Daria, her family, Alex and his family, and all the people of Gai's world. This is an excellent book. Full of adventure, mystery and magic. It will take you through a world of fantasy, and a final battle of good versud evil.
Wow, I absolutely loved this entire series!!! I couldn't put it down! The books gave me everything! I never felt like there were wasted words. Every word on the page had a purpose. From the action to the romance, it's done so well! Humor is also sprinkled in, and always at the best times! I highly recommend this series! I know I will be rereading it myself at some point! Well done Barbara Kloss!
FINISHED!! Now maybe I can get some things done I've been putting off to read. Only I saw more books about this world. Wonder if I can make my husband believe I'm still to weak from radiation to cook or clean? I recommend this series to anyone who believes in magic. My only negative comment is there are places where there is to much , to me, unnecessary dialog. Enjoy
Overall, this was a good series. Characters and plot drew me in pretty quickly and held my attention throughout. I had a few pet peeves throughout, but nothing that really stopped me from enjoying the story. Great deal for tye box set. Definitely worth it!
I really like this series. The ending was not totally satisfactory, but it was a different ending than anything I have read, so I respect the chance the author took. The heroine was amazing all the way through. The love interest was okay and the secondary friend characters were great. It had me tearing up a few times, and it will definitely be a re-read in the future.
Amazing story and characters. Wonderful self sufficient and strong heroine. Author does a great job of developing characters. Story left me wanting to see what would happen next.
This was excellent! Fast paced, great world building, well made characters with adventure, magic, parallel worlds, dragons, and so much more. I like this almost has much has Tolkien's books. That is how good a read it is and I highly recommend this epic adventure.
Started slow but with much intrigue. I kept getting deeper and deeper into the series. By the time I got to the third book I realized that there was much more coming and I wasn’t disappointed
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters were well developed and realistic. I love bantering dialogue. I feel like Thaddeus was a person I would love to meet.
This series was such a delight to read. I could not put my kindle down until finished. The story line was believable from beginning to end. Every bit tied together with cliff hangers and tears. Topped with laughter. Even the ending was tied together so believable. I'm buying this series because I will read it again and again.
What I look for in fantasy is a book or series I can get lost in. One where the hours slip away unnoticed, and my mind never strays back to mundane reality until I regretfully put the author’s world away. This world (well, technically worlds) does not have such an exhaustive list of characters or races that it becomes a chore to keep track, but does have enough to be interesting. Although it has a (totally kickass) heroine, it is truly an ensemble piece, with development, depth, and growth for a full cast of diverse and lovable characters. The evil is a bit predictable and one dimensional, but I’ll sacrifice that for beautiful romance any day. Definitely kept me up far too late on many nights.
I enjoyed this series. There were times when I had to stop reading and I was ready to get back to it asap. Now there just needs to be at least one more book that has some follow up on what happened next - marriages, magic school started.
