Every person in the City of Crimson has the date of their death Inked onto their skin. On that day, an Assassin of the Order of Zeevar comes to sacrifice our lives to the God of Resurrection. Children who survive are given the highest honor in the city - the opportunity to serve Zeevar and the Order themselves as one of the four Mages.
But people like me have no chance of passing the gruesome Trials. Four sexy-as-sin guardians aren’t likely to volunteer themselves for protection duty, and one does not survive InkHaven Academy by sheer, dumb luck.
Right?
InkHaven Academy the Complete Series includes both InkSpelled & InkBorn

I was worried as the storyline isn't spelled out clearly at first. As I read the setting became clearer. The sex is so hot that you truly have to concentrate on the story or you will miss something. I loved this book , my only complaint is that now I want 6 men to watch and I'm pretty sure that won't fly with my 1 very straight husband.
I have considered that the mark of a good romance novel is that, if the romantic aspects of the book were removed, it would still be a good book.
This one had some pretty interesting relationship dynamics that, while titillating in the beginning, became kind of stale toward the end. It seemed that by the time the final members of the harem were brought into the fold, the pile had become so unwieldy, that we started to see the same actions over and over. The sex scenes got boring and predictable and that is never a good sign in a romance novel.
More concerning, however, is my answer to that mental exercise: Is it still good without the romance? And I found that, in this case, that while the plot arc was interesting, it felt like it was only partially fleshed out and was almost an afterthought to the people-wrangling of the romantic arc. I had so many questions that were just glossed over. On that thought, there seemed to be a lot of things like that. FMC suddenly knows how to do a thing that she didn't before and no explanation or indication of any significant time passing. Things like that.
Finally, the end.
I'm sorry but the weak final chapter round up of the "bad guy" (that I stayed up til 1AM to finish) was so lame that my scoff of annoyance woke the old man out of a sound sleep. Not only was not any surprise who the "bad guy" was, but it came off as an "oh, by the way, there was some intrigue over here".
3 ⭐ on the relationship 2 ⭐ on the fantasy /dystopian/ alternate universe 3 ⭐on the sex scenes - read too much like porn play by play than any kind of intimacy or bonding
RH, pnr, academy, trials, magic, religious symbolism. Spoilers follow: This duet really needs a prologue, or an annex, to describe the world it's based in. Even now at the end, I have only a vague concept of the world beliefs and structure. Usually I can just make assumptions and enjoy. Here though the world view encompasses the entire plot. The first book introduces our heroine as she faces her "death day". Apparently some? or all? regular people get a magical tattoo that tells when they die. Children can survive their day and receive a new adult date. Or they can be reborn as a young semi religious mage and attend school to learn their powers. It's unclear what happens to everyone else. Our heroine actually survives her adult death day and is taken to the mage leaders because she is an abnormality. Some are supportive, but most leaders want her to just die, so they make her attend the hardest Academy at a drastically fast rate. The main plot describes her overcoming all odds, developing deep friendships, and creating her harem, all while dodging assassination attempts. Book Two is quite depressing as half the harem has graduated. The ending is rushed and again, not very clear. There is no resolution to the base issues, why did she survive? Who made the " mistake"? How does she have the powers she has? There are lots of sexy scenes and each male in her large harem has a special male favorite so mm is a major scene. There is little character development for the mmcs. However, I did read the entire duet and was kept interested, but never found plot satisfaction.
I really enjoyed the plot and the guys were absolutely delicious! 🤤 Ronan was my favorite! Who doesn't love a touch her and unalive type of fella!? However, the FMC was kind of whiney most of the time even though she did grow in her confidence towards the end. The only thing I didn't really love was the preference towards the booty play when the girl was involved... I understand the relationship was bi/poly and it was necessary for the guys and totally hot but even with the girl involved they were more focused on her butt. I know in a 7 person relationship it's likely some will end up there during group activities but Idk it kinda made it seem pointless to have a girl in the relationship with a vagina when they favored her booty rather than her lady bits. Can I even say this here? 😁
This series was like riding with the top down surrounded by best friends listening to music and enjoying being alive, only to have the car skid on gravel and nearly take everyone over a cliff. I laughed often, cried a few times, and hated some parts as much as I loved others. The society is hard to grasp in the beginning, but as the story progresses, it makes a strange kind of sense. The characters are amazing, even the mean girls had me grinning at times. Overall a worthy was to spend a weekend.
The first book was so good . The second it moved ally slower and I got bored reading it! The sex scenes were fire but honestly it got a bit tiring with the story line so it just left disappointed
If you are into MMF over protectiveness Dom/Sub this is a really great book. Book two i very emotional A few spelling mistakes but definitely grabs you from the first chapter i am looking forward to reading more books
