Although Cassie is living behind the thick fences she knows she isn’t safe. She knows that the zombies and the hellhounds could break through and take away her daughter. After losing her husband and young son she knows she would do anything to keep her remaining child safe. Including hooking up with one of the fey. She knows being under the fey’s protection is about as safe as you can get in this new terrifying world. But, with so much to lose falling in love is almost as terrifying as the teeth of a hellhound.

I have loved this series so far, but when I read the blurb of this one I was a little hesitant. I didn’t like the idea of someone using my gorgeous, beautifully innocent, fey for their own ends. I shouldn’t have worried, I quickly warmed to both the story and the characters.

I know that Cassie is the kind of heroine a lot of readers won’t like, in fact I half expected not to like her myself. However, I found I admired her. She was doing what she had to to keep her children save in this harsh new world. It had hardened her a little, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t without empathy. I liked it. It fit with the world that Haag had built. Special snowflakes aren’t going to survive long!

As for Kerr, these fey…it’s like Haag went into my brain discovered exactly what I love and then wrote her heroes to accommodate my fantasies. I fall in love with every single one of them. I am making them form an orderly queue as they fill my book boyfriend basement. Kerr was sweet and patient, adorable with kids. Fierce and protective. And hot as hell. All at once, I was a goner.

Another great book in this series and I can’t wait to read more. If you’re a fan of Ruby Dixon and Laurann Dohner this is the perfect series for you.

I love this series, this book is every bit as good as the rest of the series (4 previous). It’s not quite a stand-alone story. I would suggest reading the previous books to get the full appreciation of this story. This does not have a cliff-hanger ending for the main characters, they have an HEA for themselves, but there is a cliffy for the story in general -for the world & the Fey-Demon men. It had me on the edge of my seat, scared, happy, laughing out loud, angry, even some tears a few times, & most importantly, falling in love a long with the characters or at least feeling what they were supposed to be feeling on the pages. I didn’t think I could love a character as much as Drav in the first 3 books, but the 4th & 5th book proved me wrong. Kerr is definitely just as good as a book boyfriend as Drav. I highly recommend this series, so worth the reading. This is definitely a re-read type of series. I re-read this book 4 times, back to back & was still sucked into the story every time.

I freaking loved the 4 books in the series! But this one didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t as interesting as the other books in the series and I feel like the author should have just ended it.

4.5 stars — I don’t know what exactly had me enjoying this one even more than the previous ones, but I think part of that was that Cassie’s perspective is a bit different from the previous girls. They were all afraid of being raped, Cassie’s considering giving herself in exchange for protection. So it didn’t have the same kidnapper fetish vibes of the previous ones.

Plus, OMG, Kerr is honestly just the sweetest. I mean, I know Shax is going to be sweet, but I had no idea Kerr had these depths inside him. Seeing him blush over some things was just freaking adorable. And he came across even more vulnerable than the previous heroes. There was a depth there that I really appreciated. And he truly showcased his care and respect for Cassie, even if he had a one track mind and worked steadily towards gaining Cassie’s love.

I was also uncertain about how Cassie’s story was going to play out, and honestly? From that blurb, I didn’t expect the direction it went. But I actually really enjoyed it. It was intense, and I truly felt her fear for her children, and the unknown of what had happened. And the constant pain of making compromises to keep her children safe, while allowing them to be children. It was an interesting thing to contemplate.

I also really appreciated that Cassie’s story had a completely different perspective from the other women. She’d been “rescued” fairly early, and so didn’t have ANY IDEA what it was really like outside the fence, and seeing her fear and uncertainty reminded us of that danger…and of the assets that the fae are in this world.

I really love the innocence of the fae…each one we meet truly showcases that, along with their genuine desire to please and help. It’s nice to read about nice guys, you know?

So yeah. Obviously still loving this series. Can’t wait to read more. I love that there’s a lot of intensity, and lots of steamy chemistry, but also a LOT of laughs to break things up. The laughs are my favourite part.

Not bad but I didn’t have a good time ....

The reviews raved about how “realistic” the heroine was and how bravely Cassie did what she needed to
do to take care of herself and while I do agree with that, I didn’t really like her...
On one hand I respected how Cassie stepped up to perform duties she wasn’t even completely trained to perform and in a job/field she never really wanted to be in to begin with....

That said Cassie never came off as particularly altruistic, empathetic or even sympathetic,( other than w/what happened w/her D bag ex) really ,not I’m not saying Cassie seemed uncaring but we were never allowed to forget that the bulk of all her motivations were about saving her own skin and the care and welfare of herself and her children.....
There’s nothing wrong w/just doing what you’ve got to survive but I didn’t find her overly like able and a bit too selfish especially with regards to Kerr...
Kerr and the fey are a HUGE sticking point for me...
Now this is where I admit I started with this book but I didn’t feel confused by the story, no no I felt I followed it pretty well, no I was annoyed by the portrayal of the fey.....
I’ve read soo many, many stories in PNR involving the Fey,or Faeries I’ve lost track but in every story I’ve ever read they were highly intelligent, cultured, magical and sophisticated and beautiful creatures ( ok, trolls and the like didn’t always sound beautiful but you know what I mean) but here they are intelligent and maybe it was all those 1000’s years trapped underground but they have a primitive type of naïveté that just isn’t right for Fey or even demons...

These guys had an almost innocence to their thoughts and actions and behaviors which felt more like some lost tribe hidden away in a jungle or some lost to time and space or some alien from a primitive planet ,maybe even filled filled ice and big blue barbarians....
This just isn’t the Fey I’ve ever seen or known and I just didn’t like how naïvely innocent the guys are portrayed ...
I like the honesty of the “fey” ,but thinking it’s ok to just ask a female “can I see your “ussy “?, is just a bit much...
I also didn’t like how not only do we NEVER get Kerr’s p.o.v., in the story between the very very basic description of Kerr where the only thing distinguishing we are told about him is red bead that is braided in his hair but he gives it to the h’s little girl and the h does little to nothing to get to know Kerr..
This upset me,the story seems to focus solely on Cassie’s wants and needs, sure sweet brave Kerr has been planning and waiting for the chance to make Cassie hi for a while even going as soo far as to save up food for her and Lily and clothes for Cassie .. but we’re never given a chance to know anything about Kerr mentality or emotionally and barely even physically,it’s all about Cassie and what she wants and what she needs, honestly she never seems to give much though to Kerr or his needs or wants ...
I never for a woman being forced or coerced into anything but at the same time I don’t want a story where she only her thoughts and feelings matter....
I didn’t feel any love for Kerr from Cassie, I felt she came to care for him but it felt like just another way to survive ,I wouldn’t say Kerr is being used but not really loved either...
No Thanks... this reads more like just a woman doing what she can to survive but definitely NOT a romance...
In a romance both ppl’s needs and feeling need to be equally balanced but here only the h’s needs really seemed to matter at the end of the day...
Not. A. Romance ...

I’m always a little hesitant when starting a new book in a series because I am terrified it’s not going to live up to the rest of the series, but once again this author never fails to impress me. You are sucked in right away and it just never lets go. This series just continues to surprise me. Now the real question is: What is happening to Mya??? I need to know now! How am I supposed to wait until the next book?

I thought this series was done, I was so excited to see another book pop up.

I know a lot of people are complaining that these books are repetitive, and I agree, they sort of are. But for some reason that doesn't bother me. I really like this world that has been created.

Wow.

Just wow!

It's funny because I wasn't in love with this series when it originated. I am a long time MJ Haag fan, and I've been following her work since the beginning. I initially started along this series out of my love for Melissa's writing, but as each new book comes out, I start to enjoy it more and more until BAM, I'm now in love. What amazing about this series, and perhaps this novel in general, is the balance between funny, and dramatization. There are some moments in this novel that have you laughing out loud! But there are also moments that make your chest clench.

Let's talk the good stuff here! Cassie being a mother in this post apocalyptic world, one that has already lost so much, makes the tone of this novel feel very different than the other novels of the series. I think this fact made me love it more, it maintained the quality and laughs MJ Haag is known for in her plots and writing, with a more serious undertone that comes along with motherhood. The stakes are just higher.

Development wise, well you wont be disappointed. Watching Cassie learn to trust was painstakingly beautiful, and the author's attention to detail absorbs your into the story so it seems as though you are on this journey right along the characters. MJ's writing surpasses itself in excellence, and the emotional development the character's go through is absolutely beautiful.

I am trying very hard to not give too much away, but take my word that this is a book you must read!! and easy five stars for Demon Deception!

Well written, a little dark with a happy ending

Read the series. They are all great. This one especially so, because it has more grit to it.

The world has gone to hell and Cassie is separated from her baby and husband.

She has her daughter but feels completely lost without at least trying to find out if her lost family is alive. Cassie is strong and caring and in a world turned upside down, she does what she has to do to keep herself alive for her daughter.

Kerr is a fey creature with super human strength, who loves Cassie on sight for all of her fierceness and tenderness. He also respects her enough to keep his distance because she’s married.
But he protects her like she’s precious as well.

The love builds slowly. The sex scenes are not overly done and very relevant to the story. Well writing. Well edited. Funny as well as action packed.

Highly recommend.

Another much deserved 5 star for M.J. Haag. The 5th installment was a bit more serious and I love how it's turning into more of a survival story with minimal hints of romance. There were some bits of the story that wasn't quite interesting or entertaining, a bit on the dragging side, but that's okay.

The writing style was superb, much like #4, and I am thoroughly invested in the world the author has created.
The main character's attitude in the beginning was definitely off-putting which made me doubt whether I'd be able to relate to her or feel any connection to her. But.. I choose to trust Melissa's writing and her creative mind.
The character arc felt a bit rushed, so did the MFC's change of feelings toward the MMC but it worked. I understand not wanting to stretch the books past 300 pages or have another trilogy for just one character.

Overall it was an entertaining quick read.

I'm hoping Molev has his own story!

Great book

Another fantastic book in the world of Melissa Haag's imagination. I loved this book as much as the previous ones.

Cassie, a mother of two small children, is forced to make a decision to better her life by moving her and her daughter to Tolerance. Deciding to go out and find her ex and her infant son, Cassie acquires the help of the fey. Their journey to her house is filled with excitement and a certain fey, who tries to win her heart.

Kerrn, doesn't give up on Cassie. He loves her and her children. The things he says to her melted a little of my heart. He is so sweet and understanding. I love these two characters.

The infected are getting smarter, I can't wait to see what they'll do next! If you love zombies, hellhounds, and big grey fey men who will do anything for anyone, especially woman, then this is the book/series for you.

the heartache

I’m in love with this series. I was waiting for this book so eagerly, and by the last day counting the hours for it to show up in my kindle library!
I’m giving it a five starts because I’m a FAN
This book is very realistic, as in any other post apocalyptic zombie type of world I mean!
Very unique the way it connects the Z world to fantasy one!
I feel like Cassie could have done a bit BETTER . Kirr wasn’t like like other fays we read about( if u know what I mean;) he had himself well under control) well almost!!!.
Very quiet and observant type
Overall I stayed awake till finished the story simply because I couldn’t put it down and here I’m writing a review well past 4 am🤓
Totally recommend it
Enjoy

This series just keeps getting better and better, a great addition to the series that has you on the edge of your seat controlling your emotions. Even though we meet Kerr from the other books, we learn a lot more about him and his mission to find his HEA and then he meets Cassie who is a strong woman who has suffered a lot of pain and instead of spiraling she used that pain to make her that much stronger to protect her daughter.
This author has an amazing talent of drawing you into any of the worlds she creates. This was an amazing read, the whole series is and is worth the hours of lost sleep just to keep turning the pages.

I need Kerr in my life

I couldn't put this down. I absolutely loved Kerr and Cassie. It wasn't your normal resurrection book, the story was deep, and dark at the same time it was light and humerous. The story takes you on Cassies journey to not only find herself but find out what can be. She.overcomes obstacles with Jeers help and learns that not everything is terrifying in such a scary world. The writing is amazing and the story draws you in. You truly don't want to miss this book.

Those grey men!!

Where can I find one? I am so loving these stories of big, strong, loyal, and fiercely protective guys. And the strong, yet stubborn women they can’t help falling for. Even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, and all that entails, these books weave action, adventure, horror, and romance together with a thread of hope. They are everything you could possibly want in a dystopian, zombie apocalypse, urban fantasy, paranormal romance.

3.5 stars. I really debated 4, but something held me back. It was still a good read that I finished off in under 24 hours. I’m very curious for the next book—I think it’s the pregnant woman, so it’ll be cute to see the fey’s reaction to a brand new baby after seeing how much they liked this woman’s one year old. And I’m curious about the lead woman’s headaches and splotches. I’m sure that’s leading to something.

Wonderful story.

Thank you again Melissa for such a great story. I could not put down this book. I’m wondering what’s going to happen with Lee’s girlfriend? And why did she became upset when Cassie announced that they were living.
Thanks for another fantastic story, can’t wait for the next book!

Honestly can’t get enough.

I love, love this series to pieces. It’s incredible the amount of detail, action, and romance these books contain. Edge of your seat thrill and you just can’t put it down. I think you need a post-apocalyptic series in your life. This one specifically. Go forth and discover how amazing this world is.

Harder and deeper

It may be getting harder to survive in the world, but the fae/human community is working well together and now they have a doctor (of sorts). Going deeper into these characters is really helping me imagine what they're going through. This is turning into an epic series.

I didn't read this one when I read the others because the description made me think she was forgetting her newly-dead husband to bang a fey. Since I'm happily married, that was just plain old disturbing to me. BUT after reading some reviews I decided to give it a try and her relationship with the dead husband was a terrible one so that wasn't a problem at all.

I really enjoyed this book! I like how each of the books in the series has such different heroines and tones to the story.

I really enjoyed the more serious tone and the change of perspective that comes from a female lead who is a mother. Her thoughts and motivations are mostly driven by how to keep her children safe which is really realistic in a post-apocalyptic world this series is set in. I didn't get as much out of Kerr but I like his presence and groundedness.

Improving

Loving this addictive series
I would like to see the personalities and characteristics of the fey fleshed out a bit more, to get nuance and depth beyond being near linear(thankfully not one dimensional alpha sorts)
Nonetheless still love this series as a light read, has enough of all the ingredients complexity, slow burn and steam.

One of my favorite books in the series.
Being a mother of two kiddos this book hit me in ways I did not expect.
I loved how even though the male MC made his intentions to court her very clear, he was still respectful of her boundaries and even put his life on the line to protect her and her kiddos.
