Can an average girl survive Hollywood?

Ally Valenti doesn’t belong in Hollywood. She definitely wouldn’t be stupid enough to fall for a movie star. Particularly not a Hollywood heartthrob like Jacob Swan.

It doesn’t help that there’s a lot more to Jacob than his on-screen good guy, all-American persona. But Ally is in LA with a job to do. She’s in town to pursue her dreams of fashion design and create some gowns for the awards season for her friend and actress, Lena Lyons—not get distracted by Lena’s co-star.

Of course the media has other ideas. When Ally is spotted in public with Jacob, threats aimed at destroying her fashion career go too far. Someone obviously doesn’t like all the attention she’s getting, and Ally becomes convinced she’s living in crazy town.

The sensible thing would be to retreat home before it all ends in spectacular fashion. But will Ally be leaving more than her dreams behind if she says goodbye to Hollywood?

This glamorous, fast-paced contemporary romance that will make you smile, is perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Victoria Dahl, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Liliana Hart.

Heartthrob (Hollywood Hearts, #1) by Belinda Williams Ally Valenti doesn’t belong in Hollywood. Not like her friend and actress, Lena Lyons. Lena’s convinced Ally to pursue her dreams of fashion design, starting with some gowns for the awards season. Which Ally will get around to creating as soon as she can stop looking at Jacob Swan, Lena’s latest co-star. Not that she’s staring. Ally’s skeptical of anything celebrity and it’s not like she’d be pathetic enough to fall for a Hollywood heartthrob. Then Ally learns there’s more to Jacob than his good guy, all-American persona. She finds herself torn between the desire to get to know him better and her determination to stay out of the limelight. Of course the media has other ideas—and someone doesn’t like all the attention Ally’s getting. When threats aimed at destroying her fashion career go too far, Ally’s convinced she’s living in crazy town. The sensible thing would be to retreat home before it all ends in spectacular fashion. But will Ally be leaving more than her dreams behind if she says goodbye to Hollywood?

First in the Hollywood Hearts Series gets off on an intensely emotional start.
Heartthrob brings to the table what happens when you fall for someone who comes with a lot of baggage and a hell of a personal price tag.
There is a lot of: is love worth the pain and the sacrifice and a lot of emotional turmoil that is heavy in the drama with a  splash of hope when the cards are stacked against you.
I liked that both Ally and Jake had some serious fences to climb and difficulties to overcome in order to develop and prepare themselves and their involvement for what the reality of their relationship would look like for both of them.
I liked that there was real issues they had to get through and I liked the reality of their relationship with honest struggles that readers could relate to on a human level.
Williams has always been really great at bringing an emotional honesty to her work and that talent continues on in this book as well.
Personally there was a tiny bit too much angst but in a high tension situation that's understandable. That being said I thought this was a great read and I look forward to seeing what Williams has planned next.

description

4 deliciously famous Hollywood stars. I've read several books by Belinda Williams and have pretty much loved them all. This is a bit lighter than her other books but is no less charming, romantic or clever. Both the heroine and hero are beyond likable and yet are also more than meets the eye. I'm a sucker for a hero that's genuinely a great guy but has a many layers to him which is why I loved Jake. Ally was real, sweet, loyal and hilarious.

Kissing Jake was like falling into the most exquisite daydream. Hot and sweet, bright and...with butterflies. There were definitely butterflies floating around our heads in a Jake daydream. The man made me forget myself entirely.

Allegra, she prefers Ally, put off her dream of becoming a fashion designer when her family needed her the most. She took over the family business and didn't complain. Her best friend from high school became a famous actress and decided, upon her divorce, it was time for Ally to come to Hollywood and become a designer. This, of course, forces Ally to come into contact with Hollywood actors and leads her to Jake, America's heartthrob.

Jake is an ex-football player turned actor. He's charming, sweet, thoughtful and very down-to-earth. His first time meeting Ally is hilarious and quite memorable. From there on, Jake is after any time he can get with her. He's infatuated with her and Ally is quite infatuated with him. This is their story, their struggle to come together against their own internal issues and external forces.

Heartthrob is the first book in the Hollywood Heart series and my first Belinda Williams book. I can definitely say it will not be my last one either.
Heartthrob is Ally and Jake’s story. I fell in love with them both from the very beginning of the book and did not want their story to end. Ally moved to Hollywood to be with her best friend and take a chance on her dream job of being a designer. I loved the fact that even though she was in Hollywood surrounded by stars and money it did not go to her head. She was down to earth and about as real as you can get in a world filled with fake people. I also loved how protective she was of her people and she would do anything to protect them. And one of those people who also loved these qualities about her was Jacob Swan. Jake is Hollywood’s it guy and heartthrob! He loved that Ally wasn’t fazed by his fame. If anything she pushed him away because she did not want to live her life in the spotlight. I also liked those same qualities about Jake. He did not let fame go to his head. He was sweet and really had a heart of gold. He was so understanding of Ally not wanting that attention of the world on them, and was really protective of her. But, they could not deny their attraction to each other and I was definitely happy when they finally got together!
They were definitely hot together, but they were also sweet too! I absolutely loved them together, but I also liked that they did not have a perfect relationship. They definitely had their issues from a stalker, family and Hollywood. Will they be strong enough to overcome all the obstacles thrown their way to get their happily ever after?
I enjoyed this book and felt like Williams put in just enough drama without overdoing it. I liked the pacing and flow of the book. I also enjoyed the way she brought in the other characters of the book and I cannot wait to see who gets the next book.

This was a fun read from start to finish. I'd not read a Belinda Williams book before this, but I will be going back and seeing about getting her other titles. Filled with plenty of snappy and witty banter, and the chemistry between Jake and Ally is pretty hot.

Ally is finally getting the chance to see what Hollywood life is all about once her longtime friend Lena calls needing outfits designed for the upcoming awards season (Ally wanted to head to fashion school but had to put that dream on pause to help the family after her dad got sick). Ally's excited yet feeling some trepidation as it's been a good while since she designed anything.

One thing I liked about this book is that while it's set in Hollywood and we're reading about celebrities, we actually get to see the celebrities in their every day lives, not just what's shown on TV and in the gossip rags. Ally is also caught off-guard by her feelings and interactions with Lena's co-star Jacob Swan. She's having a hard time acknowledging the fact that he might actually like her, since she's the opposite of the starlets that would look better on his arm. What she doesn't realize is that is what makes her different than all the other women in Jake's eyes: because she's down to earth and real, not with him because of how he can help further her career.

There's also some intrigue and suspense when the design workroom of Lena's and Ally's is broken in to and the designs are destroyed. Is the suspect after Ally or Lena? I will say that arc of the book took a while to happen and a bit longer to start making any traction in the story. Overall, this is a great start to this series and I will be eagerly anticipating each new release.

This was a sweet tale of a 31 year old woman, Allegra Valenti, who gave up her dreams to help her family and now has the opportunity to achieve her dreams in Hollywood of all places, but not as an actress, as a designer, and who Better to show off her talent than her best friend, and hot Hollywood actress Lena Lyons.

Lena brings Ally out to LA to design dresses for her and spend 6 months attempting to live her dream, Ally accepts because she's always there for her family and friends and Lena's going through a divorce and she needs her friend. Within her first day Ally feels out of her depth especially on her first day in LA meeting Jacob Swan.

Jake is one of Hollywood's hottest actors and he's in a film with Lena... and from the offset the two get along well... the more time they spend together the more Ally feels for Jake, but her fears and doubts keep her from pursuing anything. Jake on the other hand has demons from his past holding him back and keeping him from reaching his potential, can the feisty Italian with her infamous Valenti lasagna crack Jake's shell, or are the forces of jealousy rampant in Hollywood going to keep them apart? Can she follow her dreams of being a renowned designer? And can he reach his full acting potential?

As I said, this was a sweet tale, I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend this book. The characters were enjoyable and I loved Bella especially, she was hilarious. Funny, sweet, romance that deals with some very real issues we face in our own ways.

Prose: 3.5/5 (1st POV from the Heroine's POV)
How much I enjoyed it: 4/5

I was quite suprised at how well the story is written when its written in 1st POV and strictly from the heroine's point of view.

Heartthrob, Hollywood Hearts 1, Belinda Williams

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance, Women's Fiction

My first book from Belinda, and though I didn't know if I'd like her writing style its from one of my favourite tropes, Film/Rock star, I do love the fabulous escapism from a read in those settings.

So Ally, what a great character.  A tiny but curvy package, she's a loyal friend, adores her extensive family and has finally got a chance at her dream career.
She gave up her coveted place in a design course when her father was dying, and she was needed at home for the family and the family restaurant. That was some years back, and now she seems to have just given up her dream. Her friend since childhood,  Lena,  is determined that Ally will get her chance, and now she's a very famous actress she asks Ally to make her gowns for the upcoming awards seasons.

Ally isn't sure, can she do it? Can the family manage without her? Should she take that step forward or stay where she is?
Her family and Lena won't give up though, and she soon finds herself in Lena's luxurious home, living a life she thought impossible. She doesn't change though, she's still Ally, lover, cooker and consumer of fabulous  italian meals.

She's been there a short while, is still finding her feet when she hears Lena being berated by one of her staff. She's stunned, no-one talks down to her friend like that, barrels out and leterally rams the guy down, despite him being so much larger, and as she's giving him what for he and Lena are laughing. He's her current co-star and they were practising lines....Oops.
He's entranced by Ally and the way she's so normal, her say it like it is manner, not one of Hollywood's false fawning ladies who just say what they think he wants to hear.
Soon he's worn her down and they're embarking on a fledgling relationship.

Things are going wrong with her designing though, her clothes damaged, a fake online account set up, they don't know if it's her or Lena that's being attacked? Someone is after them, but which one of them?
It takes a while to sort out which of them is being targeted as Lena has had stalkers before. This time though its really pushing at Ally's career, threatening all her hard work, and the easy route would be to pack up and go home.
Ally feels Hollywood is full of falfalsenessess and maybe she's just not cut out for it. What about Jake though if she goes home? Can she leave him, leave her dreams, or should she stick it out?

Its a real fun read, with some surprising depth in the secrets that come out, that show how even those who seem to have so much carry burdens from their past, have fears even though they appear fearless, feel trapped even though they seem to have the world at their feet.
Its true the higher you are the further you fall, and Ally's climbing rapidly.

Its a great story, a steamy romance, fabulous descriptions of characters, events, and of course the clothes.
I loved Ally and Lena and of course Jake, but there's also lots of secondary characters that were interesting and made it harder to work out who was behind events, and where they'd strike next.
The final revelation showed I was completely off track in my suspect! Buts that's about par for me, I rarely get it right, and love to be wrong as its a story that hasn't proved predictable.

Stars: Five, a real fun story, full of sensuality and great characters.

Belinda Williams has authored another entertaining and impassioned novel with Heartthrob, the first book from her brand new series, Hollywood Hearts. It is a compelling read, replete with an engaging plot, well-defined characters and a complicated romance. This story takes place in Hollywood, and the famous people that live there are so much more than their publicity and press.

Ally Valenti has always wanted to be a fashion designer. When her father got sick, she gave up her dream to help her family run their Italian restaurant. As a result, she is an amazing cook. Lena Lyons, a famous movie actress and Ally's best friend, knows that Ally's design talents are being wasted in the Rhode Island restaurant business. So she convinces Ally to temporarily join her in Tinseltown and create fashion. Ally's first design, Lena's dress for the Golden Globes.

Actor Jacob Swan has recently been voted the sexiest man alive, and he is also Lena's costar. There is an instant spark when Ally and Jake meet for the first time, which quickly evolves into a full-blown relationship. However, Ally prefers to remain on the sidelines, even though her successful designs and romance with Jake have forced her to be in the spotlight. Ally's newfound attention is glorious, however, there is someone in Tinseltown that is not very happy about it.

This is an exciting and slightly emotional novel. I love books with a Hollywood theme, and Ms. Williams' words completely whisked me away into all things celebrity. I found Ally's spunk and protectiveness in regards to those she loved to be genuine, and I applauded her actions. Lena was amazing in her own right, with her generosity, talent, and ability to remain calm during some truly frenzied situations. Jake was easy to bond with because his dysfunctional upbringing and subsequent success was logical. Thus, the unique personalities of the characters and engrossing plot, kept me entertained from beginning to end. In conclusion, if you enjoy a well-written novel about the unique happenings in Hollywood, then pick up a copy of Heartthrob.

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ 5 Bambi STARS!
Heartthrob is a delicious and delightful read that I had a massive fun reading. It have a wonderful romance, outrageous humor that you will love and also super amazing and lovable characters!

First of all, I must say that the heroine is what made me fell in love with this book. Allegra Valenti or Ally is what exactly I would want in a heroine and I just LOVE her! She is super talented, humble, freaking hilarious and she makes mean pizza and lasagna! She have many cool traits that I like but mostly, I love the fact that she is fiercely loyal to the ones that she loves especially to Lena and Jake.

Jacob Swan or Jake is our charming hero and he is the Hollywood heartthrob. His personality is described as fun loving and outgoing type but I love that he wasn't portrayed as the typical man-whore hero despite his career as a famous actor. I am also liking the way the author interestingly incorporated his character's background and history and I am genuinely fascinated with Jake as a whole.

I am also loving the supporting characters like Lena, Chloe, Bella and even Faith. And I am excited to read Lena's story next. I hope Ally and Jake will make a cameo appearance though because I will surely miss them after this!

Anyway, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Heartthrob because it have all the great things that a romance book should have and it is just so good that you will not want to stop reading it once you had started. Totally and definitely a 5-Star read!

Ally Valenti is from a big Italian family, and gave up her fashion design dream when her father passed away, to help her mother out. Now she's been given the opportunity to stay with her movie star best friend in Hollywood, in order to design her gowns for the awards season. Very quickly, it's apparent that she doesn't belong in Hollywood, but Lena talks her into taking her shot. Ally decides she's tired of being labeled the boring one, so she decides to take this opportunity to do things she wouldn't normally do. However, that changes when she meets Lena's latest co-star, Jacob Swan. Although she's skeptical about anything celebrity, she can't take her eyes off of him, nor stay away from him, as she gets to know the "real Jacob." But she can't help but worry that being seen with her, won't help his status at all as a heartthrob. The media isn't helping, so when someone hates all the attention she's getting, the threats trying to destroy her new fashion career have her thinking maybe she's better off going home. But can she leave behind more than just her fashion dreams?

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this story sooooo much! The character development is great, with a highly entertaining cast of secondaries that rounded it out. Simmering chemistry boils over into some SCORCHIN' HOT sexy scene goodness, that had me sweating. Let me not forget the well placed humor, from all of the original witty banter with the colorful supporting cast, (especially Bella), that had me rolling in out loud laughter. This is the first book that I've read by Belinda Williams, and frankly, I'm ready to kick myself, as she's amazing! Her talented writing style had all of my attention captivated from the very beginning, while keeping my heart pounding until the very end. Her twists and turns had me going down different rabbit holes, only to figure out how wrong I was. AND her biggest twist yet, had the f-bomb parade going through my house at a rapid pace. I CANNOT WAIT for the next book in this series, so I have no choice but to HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this amazing goodness of a story!

Allegra/Ally was going to her friend Lena’s in L A. Ally was to design two gowns for Lena; one for the Golden Globe Awards ceremony and the other for the Academy Awards ceremony. Ally had been ready to move to NYC to take a course in fashion designing but her father had gotten sick and then passed away and Ally stayed with her family and had managed the family restaurant for the past five years. Ally and Lena had met and became best friends the last two years of H S. Lena’s mother had passed away from cancer when Lena was a teen. Lena had always been beautiful but shy when Ally had first met her. Now Lena was one of the hottest stars in Hollywood and wanted Ally to go after her dream. But also Lena was going through a separation and divorce from internationally known producer Duncan Moore which was all through the media. Ally felt Lena could use a true friend more than anything and agreed to go to Hollywood . One morning Ally heard someone arguing with Ally outside so Ally went out to protect her friend. It turned out to be Lena’s leading man in the upcoming movie Lena and Jacob were to star in and they were running some lines. Jacob/Jake Swan was the hottest man in Hollywood. Jake seemed to really like Ally.
I enjoyed this story a lot. It gave you a look at Hollywood: the insecurities, the rivalries, the media, the lies that can be told out of jealousy. This shows a very long and true friendship that had started before Lena had anything to do with Hollywood and how Lena remembered Ally’s dream and wanted to help her achieve that dream even though she was now a very famous movie star. It shows love and what being in the public can do to you and all in fiction but seemed very realistic. I loved how Lena had never forgotten Ally and her dream. Ally was shot into the craziness of Hollywood and the awards drama and the betrayal that Hollywood is famous for. I loved how the characters interacted. I liked the plot a lot it was a good one. It didn’t take long to read this but I did enjoy this. I liked the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

Note: I was provided with a copy of this book by the author for review via Netgalley

I love William's series which follow the same group of friends through their lives. The story is filled with regular drama, Hollywood drama and of course, romance. It is a tight story but manages to achieve conflict, mystery and a decent exploration of who the characters are. Being the first we are only seeing things from Ally's point of view but William's does a good job in establishing the players without having to wait for their own narratives. You get to see who they are as people through the eyes of the main character. Knowing more books will come though, your interest is piqued about the secondary characters and what secrets of their own they may be hiding.

Characters with insecurities, doubt, fabulous friendships, and big dreams shine through as we get to know who Ally is and what she is trying to gain from her life and her career. Ally’s innocent “Bambi” trait rings true early on as she struggles with being start struck and being teased by celebrities. Her big brown eyes widen at the media coverage, the attitude of those around her, and the general environment of Hollywood. Williams does well to show Ally out of her depth but also with the ability to achieve.

Ally is a down to earth person, feisty, honest but insecure. I would have loved more about Jacob, you get a lot of his backstory but I still felt like he was a closed book, I knew the facts of his life but felt like he needed more depth. But he remains a warm, cheeky character who had a lot of charm in other areas.

In true Williams’ style she had me gushing and gasping and grinning by the end with her romance and genuine moments that while fit a certain mould, are wonderfully sweet.

From a clunky first third the writing settled into a good rhythm and Williams' takes us on a journey of emotional growth, doubt, romance, and family. A great read.

Heartthrob is the first book in the Hollywood Hearts series by Belinda Williams.

Ally Valenti has always dreamed of being a fashion clothing designer. However, when her father got sick and then passed, she put her dreams on hold in order to be the rock and dependable person in her rather large Italian family. She is now thirty-one years old and her oldest friend, Lena Lyons, has invited her to Hollywood in order to be able to begin to meet her dream. Lena wants her to make two dresses for two awards ceremonies. This is Lena’s way of helping her friend in the best way possible.

Jacob swan is a famous Hollywood star, mostly known for his romantic comedies and action flicks. He used to be an All American football star, but after an accident, he turned to acting. And he hasn’t looked back.

Ally is hesitant to participate in the Hollywood circle of life. It is too much for her sensible personality. She stays to herself and begins to work on the dress for the first award show. She then begins working on a new line for herself. She is feeling dedicated and accomplished. After the awards show, she begins to receive notoriety, and her name becomes popular.

During this time, Ally and Jake start to get closer. They really like each other. Jake likes Ally’s open honesty. Ally likes the private side of Jake. Things are progressing slowly for the two, because the lack of privacy due to the Hollywood lifestyle and star popularity.

Everything is going good, then the stalking begins. After the first awards show and all of the success, Lena’s house is broken into and Ally’s designs are destroyed. Now the goal is to figure out who is being stalked and who the stalker is.

Will Ally and Jake be able to be together despite their differences in lifestyles? Or will their differences draw them apart?

I would give this book four stars.

This book was given to me for an honest review.

3.5 stars

This is one of those books, that you figure out what is going on but its a great story that you just want to read more about the characters in the story. The author did a great job of having Lena and Ally as friends. I think that stood out a lot during the whole story. I love seeing friendships in books that last for years. You never see that much anymore and I think their dynamics fill the book more than anything. I always liked the underdog story, but Ally is not an underdog in the typical sense. She had to put her life on hold for her family. For that I love it. I love seeing that family does matter. I liked seeing that Lena give Ally the chance to live for her dreams and I enjoyed seeing the light shine through Ally in this.

I really liked the romance in this book. It was sweet, not overbearing, predictable, but it fit the story. It didn't overwhelm you, but you wanted more of Ally and Jacob. I liked the suspense of the book. There was a mystery in the book and it went almost all the way through. It was nice to try to figure it out, instead of already knowing what was going on. Ok Ally is awesome. I liked her throughout the book, she fun, sassy, and doesn't take anything. I love the chemistry between Ally and Jake. It is typical. Someone that is not in the limelight, falls for celebrity, rumors start and well everything explodes, but at the end all is forgiven and love is in the air. But the mystery wins me over in this book. Jacob is arrogant, cocky, but you love to hate him at times, but there are those moments that make you just love him. He is an all around good guy, just like a guy he has many faults.

I laughed throughout, I even got mad at certain things in this book, but I read it in a day. I really enjoyed this author and this was his first book that I have read of hers. I think I will really enjoy reading her books.

When Ally moves to LA from Providence, she is unprepared for how different the culture is. Luckily, she has her best friend (and movie star) Lena to help her find her way.

Jacob is starring in a new movie with Lena. From the time that Ally and Jacob meet, sparks are flying. Ally doesn't want to let herself fall in love with a movie star, afraid he will break her heart when reality hits. Not to mention, she is not sure how much she can handle the public scrutiny or the celebrity life. Jacob wants Ally, though, and is not giving up.

I would give this story 4 stars. I didn't know how much I would like this book when I started, since I am not so much into the Hollywood/celebrity scene. I was pleasantly surprised. This was a fun, fast read. I loved the characters, and how the celebrities were portrayed as normal people-just with not so normal problems. You can't not like Jacob. He is down-to-earth, funny, and BTW, smoking hot. I though that the teenage cousin/digital marketing intern Bella was a great addition to the story, too.

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Ending was awful.

The book was great and then we get to the ending. I'm sorry, but J was a complete jerk, a monster! He said awful things to Ally, and yes forgiving him had to happen for their HEA, but it came to quickly!!! There was no real concrete resolution. Apologizing and then having Ally reach out to mend things is not the right way to go about things. Jake was at fault, and a much much grander gesture should have occurred to bring Ally back. I loved Jake through the book, but his crazy brother and ex speak and that's all it takes for him to kick her to the curb? Then clearly he didn't love her enough. Frankly the ending happened much to quickly and I felt as if the author needed to quickly tie up lose ends so she tried to hurry it along. I'm still furious with Jakes behavior, and upset that Ally took him back so quickly. He was truly AWFUL to her. I'm very disappointed that I read the end, I wish I had stopped at the Academy Awards.

This is my first book by Belinda Williams and I will definitely be hunting up her other books after I post this review. Heartthrob was such a fun, lighthearted read! I couldn't put it down! I loved her writing style and the scenes between all the characters kept me engaged. The dialogue was snappy. Some scenes made me laugh out loud. I liked that Ally's character grew as the novel progressed. And I think I found me a new book boyfriend in Jake. In fact, I was a little sad when I realized I had hit the end of the book because I really wanted to keep reading about Jake and Ally.

Thank you Belinda for becoming an author! Thank you for your brain that came up with this book! I can't wait to read more of your work!

ARC Review: Heartthrob (Hollywood Hearts) by Belinda Williams

It's stories like Heartthrob that keep the fantasy alive and well for the ordinary people of the world. Heartthrob is the stuff diaries are made of. Ms. Williams take the glitzy Hollywood style of living and contrasts it with the dreams of a small town girl determined to make her dreams a reality. Like a fish out of water Ally has to learn to adapt to the big city or risk losing out on a successful career and true love. Heartthrob is my first time reading a Belinda Williams novel. Her character quickly developed a life of their own as I was swept away. Look forward to reading the next novel in this series.

Ally Valenti comes to Hollywood to help her friend Lena Lyons get through her divorce and make her gowns for the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. When she meets Jacob "Jake" Swan Hollywood's hottest actor she knows that she may lose her heart to him. How does she know what is real and what is "Hollywood"? I loved this story and how the characters developed. Belinda Williams had me intrigued from beginning to end. I can't wait to read the next book about Lena. Definitely a must read book and a promising new series.

Acr given via netgalley for an honest review.

I loved the story and meeting Ally. Ally is a strong woman who is finding her feet after leaving home.

Jacob is a Hollywood heartthrob and co-star to Ally best friend Lena.

Can these two very mismatch pair find love and a happily ever after or will the Hollywood life style get in the way and pull these two apart.

I loved the story and the story line and recommend it to people who love a good romance.

Fun, light-hearted, laugh-out-loud funny, Heartthrob is truly a blast to read. I loved the peak behind the scenes of the rich and famous. But more so, I loved watching Ally chase and realize her dream of design. I adored the depth of friendship between Ally and Bella and loved the sparks that flew between Ally and Jake. I highly recommend Heartthrob - it is the perfect way to get lost in a story and forget reality for a while.

Heartthrob is the first in a new series by Sydney author Belinda Williams. The City Love series was a four book series following a group of friends as they found their HEAs, I think Hollywood Hearts will become a series that follows a similar formula and is set in Hollywood.

Ally Valenti is a single Italian woman managing the family restaurant when her high school best friend, a hot property Hollywood star, invites her to stay for six months and have a shot at following her dreams. Ally once dreamed of becoming a fashion designer but just as she was about to head off to study her father became ill and she turned down the scholarship to stay and support her mother. Ally is an only child from a large extended family so, in a way, she has the best of both worlds.

It has been years since Ally designed anything and the whole idea of six months in Hollywood to design Awards ceremony outfits is surreal. If her friend hadn’t just separated from her husband Ally would have chickened out, she knows that this is Lena’s way of asking for help and asking Ally to be with her.

Ally and Lena have been friends for many years, a lot of them long distance. Ally has learned that not everything you read in the gossip mags is true and Hollywood stars are real people away from the screen. She tries to stay out of the celebrity loop and it’s worked for her, so far. Arriving in Hollywood to stay with Lena is a lot to take in, understanding that the stars are regular people away from the camera is easy to do in theory from half a country away but in the flesh and up close and personal it can be a little overwhelming.

There is nothing ground-breakingly original here but that doesn’t mean it’s not a fun and engaging read. I ended up knocking this one off on a Lazy Sunday afternoon, when I should have been catching up on my washing. It was fun, it was entertaining and there was quite an element of suspense.

Ally feels quite the frumpy average woman beside Lena, she is curvy, voluptuous and short. She’s never really been happy about it but figured it is what it is. She’s Italian and she loves to cook, and she loves to eat; she doesn’t love to exercise. Her cooking is amazing, and hazardous to the health of the Hollywood stars who have to watch what they eat.

Heartthrob takes us behind the Hollywood scenes, it shows us the real lives of the stars and just how different they can be to the picture that is painted of them. Ally is thrust into the middle of the Hollywood scene by living with Lena and she just isn’t sure she’s up to the task of making Awards Ceremony gowns, she’s a nobody with no experience so how can she be expected to compete with the big name designers on the red carpet.

There are flying sparks as Ally gets to know Lena’s co-star, the super-hot Jacob Swan but she forever doubts that it could be her he is interested in, she thinks it must be her cooking because she is far from the hot Hollywood starlet that he should be seen with.

The night Ally’s first design debuts on the red carpet there’s a break-in at Lena’s and Ally’s entire workroom of designs is destroyed; and so begins the mystery. Who is the stalker actually after, is it Lena or Ally? And why? We follow that arc with different theories as to who and why but it takes a long time to start making any headway.

The romance element of the story is quite sweet, and at times a little predictable, small town average girl and hot hollywood hunk get involved and the paparazzi get in the way, the lifestyle makes things difficult and then there’s a misunderstanding that blows everything out of proportion and ends in disaster.

Williams does a great job of breathing life into her characters, illustrating the massive divide between what’s real and what’s not in Hollywood and showing that perseverance pays off because it’s never to late to follow your dreams.

I giggled, I cried and I was left wondering what we will discover as the series progresses.

Heartthrob is book #55 for the Australian Women Writer’s Challenge 2016.

A really great find from a new-to-me author! This book had a really good romance woven in with a compelling mystery. The best part about it were the friendships and the familial relationships!
The plot isn't really unique or something that we haven't seen before, but where this book wins is in the execution and its characters.

Ally Valenti is a down-to-earth girl who manages her family's restaurant. She is a talented designer and had a scholarship to study fashion design, which she had to give up when her father fell ill.Her best friend is the super-talented and famous actress Lena Lyons. They've been friends since highschool and have kept in touch.Lena has just come out of a painful divorce and Ally would like to be there for her. When Lena persuades her to come to Hollywood for a few months and design Lena's dress for the awards ceremony, Ally accepts.

Ally doesn't want to hope that it might be anything more than temporary. She doesn't see her talent the way others do.But, when she starts getting the attention she deserves she begins to gain confidence. Then there is also her slow-blooming relationship Jacob Swan, Hollywood's sexiest man.
But someone doesn't like the attention she is getting and has been going through great lengths to make sure her fledgling career is destroyed. Will they find out who it is or will Ally return back to her home after losing her dreams and her heart as well?

I loved the characters in this book the most. All of them were fleshed out beautifully and in detail. Each one had a background story and motivations that weren't one-dimensional.Usually when authors write main characters like Ally it ends up coming off too fake and Mary Sue-ish.But here her down-to-earth character felt natural and her talents were also believable. The friendship she had with Lena and her relationship with her little cousin was also done well.Lena was a really intriguing character as she has so many layers!

And how could I forget-Jake!!My favorite!Their first meeting was hilarious and the way the romance developed slowly between them felt 100% natural! They had really good chemistry!I just think that his actions towards the end were a little unbelievable since they didn't match with the Jake that we had come to know and love.It was almost as if there needed to be that typical drama to separate the H and the h, so he reacted that way.

The mystery was an added element that really made me enjoy the story more!I love how the author kept us guessing till the end!

I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a sexy romance with a dose of suspense added to it!I promise you won't be disappointed!

P.S.I hope the next book in the series will be Lena and Marc.I can see that there is something between them!! xD

Heartthrob is the first book of the Hollywood Hearts series, and I have to tell you that I am hooked. These are standalone stories from what I understand. Ally and Jake pulled me in right away and I could not put this book down. This story is full of heart and has a good storyline that captures your attention from the very beginning.

Allegra Valenti is best friends with movie star, Lena Lyons. They have been friends since childhood and Lena wants Ally to come to Hollywood for 6 months to design and create some gowns for her upcoming awards season. Ally currently manages the family Italian restaurant in Providence. She is boring and lives an uneventful life. She doesn’t belong in Hollywood. She had her chance to design years ago, but family circumstances took precedence over her dreams. Now she is taking a chance on her dream, but with an end date in site she is not planning on getting too attached.

Jacob Swan is Hollywood's most eligible and handsome bachelor. He plays a good guy on screen, but he is also a great guy off screen too. He is starring alongside Lena Lyons, the hottest new Hollywood star. He meets his match the day that Ally gets into town and shows up at Lena's house.
She draws him in with her smart mouth and normal treatment of him despite his heartthrob title.

Ally is in LA with a job to do and she is trying really hard not get distracted by Lena’s co-star. When Jacob starts to show interest in her, she is in total disbelief. She is the boring one, not one that could attract the attention of Hollywood's hottest star. Jake really loves spending time with Ally and anytime he can, he tries to be around her. It makes him feel normal. They start a budding friendship, but soon Jake lets her know that he wants more. The only problem is they are spotted together in public, and someone wants her out of the way. Now there are attempts to destroy her fashion career before it can even get started.

This story takes us on their journey of friendship, self-development and romance. Jacob and Allegra have back stories that are seamlessly introduced into the storyline. It adds to their character development and makes you just love them more. The secondary characters are amazing too and add value to the story without taking away from the main characters. There was a little mystery mixed in, good character building, some sexy moments and an overall interesting and well written story. My ONLY reason for 4 stars was the slight back and forth between Jake and Ally. Although I understood it, I felt it was a little unnecessary towards the end. We get out HEA so all's well that ends well. Give this story a try...I am officially hooked and can't wait to read the next one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

4 Stars, 3 Flames
Why would anyone willingly choose to live the Hollywood life, besides the money? That is what Ally keeps asking herself as she boards a plane to Hollywood to live with her movie star best friend Lena. Ally has this amazing opportunity to finally work on her dream and passion but she desperately wants to stay out of the lime light. Crazy fans, constant media coverage, America's heartthrob's current lover and a blooming career that is taking off-seems surreal.

I will admit I fell in love with the cover and is what drew me in. The blurb kept me hooked. Then I read the first few chapters and I was not totally convinced I could make it through the book. Ally has a shy yet in your face attitude and is not afraid to tell you how it is. She spent most of the book biting back her response yet still maintaining the 'Bambi' look. Ally and Lena's friendship did not give off best friend vibes as Ally claimed them to be.

However, when things start to really heat up the book got a whole lot more interesting. I have a nasty habit of trying to figure out the plot twist early on in the book. I was pleasantly surprised actually how the book ended. I really did not see it coming. Nor the actions of both Ally and Jacob. The supporting cast was great, well except for Leon.

Growing up close to Hollywood, it was nice to see some of the landscape written into the book. Not everyone appreciates the beauty Hollywood really has, so it was a nice surprise to see it eloquently detailed. Overall, this book started off a bit slow and not my style. Too sweet in some cases. But once the drama started happening I could not put the book down. Perfect for contemporary romance lovers with a bit of humor added in .

I was gifted a copy of this novel from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.

Lets talk about surprises – well I had one …. When I read Heartthrob by Belinda Williams. The plot sounded interesting but I am a very visual person and I need a cover to speak to me which in case of this book – IT DID NOT … In fact when I read the Blurb I thought this book had a 50:50 chance ending up as a DNF because judging from the cover and adding the blurb it felt like it would be one of those “Fluffy, cotton candy romances” …

Hence my surprise … when I found the story having an unusual POV on Hollywood life and a depth that made me question my first impression. Adding the fact that it all felt so real I was in for an interesting journey. After I finished this really great read I was left with the feeling that this is a story that might actually happen in real life.

Except the cover my only complaint would be Jacobs actions towards the end of the novel .. during the whole book he seemed to “be” so much better than the shallow fake façade that is Hollywood – but in those few moments he kind of destroyed that view on him. But anyway the unique POV on an often used plotline deserves 5 stars and I can hardly wait to read the second book – as I already have a pretty good idea who will feature it.

This was a random pick one evening when I was scrolling books available on Kindle. And I loved it! 😍

It was a super quick read, each chapter is short and sweet. The characters are fun, and the story was cute. Definitely a good choice when you're looking for something just light, fluffy, and fun!

I really like Ally and Jacob. They are flawed, and that makes them seem more realistic to me. I dislike when characters are too "perfect". It has some fun and snappy banter between the characters. It had me giggling out loud at some parts. Also, female characters who are strong and stand behind each other is my cup of tea! I also was never sold on reading about celebrities, but I liked it in this story.

Now, I know many of you Romance fans also love spice. And let me tell you... This book has 🌶🌶🌶! To me it was a nice amount, not too much, and not too crazy.

Another fun part that I really enjoyed, was the mystery! I honestly didn't see the twist either. 😆

Overall, this was such a fun read after a very intense novel.
