Izzy Kavanagh’s life falls apart when her mother dies. She is forced to move to the US and live with her absent father, who thinks money is the answer to every problem, and her twin brother Ethan, who she has barely spoken to in years.

She hates everything about the move. She hates that she’s forced to finish high school even though she’s already completed it in the UK. She hates that her father is controlling her and threatening to take away her inheritance if she doesn’t do as he says, even though he’s barely there and couldn’t care less about her. She hates that everybody already has an opinion on her based on her family name.

But what she hates above all else is having to see her brother every day in his perfect life where everybody worships him, because he chose this life over her and her mum.

And for that, she’ll never forgive him.

10 Astounding stars!

I stare back at her and let out a humourless laugh. “Who am I?” I step closer to her, my eyes boring into hers. I glance at Ethan, who is glaring back at me, before turning back to this girlfriend. “I’m his twin.” I pause as I watch her eyes widen in disbelief. “Who the hell are you?!”

This story! I read it in one sitting, I was glued to it, couldn't stop. I finished it last night and I still can't get over the world of All That's Left.
I love Izzy and Ethan... and all the boys! Izzy and Ethan are hurting, so much! So much that you can feel it and you're sad with them, you're swimming in so many emotions, filling like you're drowning with them. There is no way for the hurt and the sorrow to be left aside. Izzy wants to numb the pain, to forget, Ethan wants to remember the good.

And the world they live in clashes! In so many ways.

The writing style is flawless, beautiful and leaves you craving for more with every word that comes next. It's intensely emotional!
Emma has this uncanny ability to create the most honest characters, plausible plot lines, and romantic connections that are out of this world.

I can not wait for the release of the All That's Been Said! I need it! Now!

Am so freaking confused about this one I mean it's loaded with hate , depression, loss, hurt...any dark painful feeling You NAME IT
I used to think that books have only positive effect on me but as I read and read I just don't know because some books get to you and mess up your head and this book is one of them
Emma's writing is so clear and straight to the point it's like she knows what to say to make you connect to her story and this one *ALMOST* made me cry
I mean its not even a love story or romance or anything like that I don't want to spoile the story but it was really painful for me to read some parts ...

🌟🌟🌟
I LL probably finish the squall by midnight let's just hope I don't cry over it

So i don't usually give 5 stars to a book. Only when i honestly can tell that i absolutely adored a book. So i've read all books by Emma doherty and everytime they leave me hanging for more. Also this one left me emotionally broken. to be honest this felt so real. The pain through all the pages i just felt it through my bones. I've read so many books by amazing authors but if you'd ask me if Emma Doherty is one of my favourites? HELL YES. This book left me crying and feeling everything. I mean what makes a book a great book? One where you forget your own world and get right into another one and get to experience the good, the bad and everything else! Honestly just thank you for writing another amazing book and i can't wait to read the next one.

oh and also i allready knew this one was going to be amazing! i've literally been in my room for hours and hours after work and forgot to eat dinner. I mean for someone who loves food this says a lot....

This book was an emotional roller coaster. I will say it does wonderfully with someone who doesn't want to deal with grief and just blames the world.

Izzy is on a downward spiral. She lost her mother. Her father has forced her to come to America. She has to retake high school even though she finished it in England. She is mad at her brother who left her and her mom to live with their absentee father.

Izzy just doesn't want to feel. She drinks does drugs and has sex to numb the pain. I wouldn't say this is clean, but there are no detailed sex scenes. It does talk about sex and hint at it but nothing explicit.

The emotions I went through were surprising. I mean I am quite surprised. I didn't think I would come to like this book. There are a few grammar errors. I don't know if it's because in England things are said differently or if they are legit grammar errors. This also has British spelling even when an American is talking. The author warns of this in the beginning. I can't wait to read the second book.

Ugh, so disappointed. I've been waiting for Ms. Doherty's next book like no one else's. Not sure what the other reviews are about--arcs perhaps? I've read all Ms. Doherty's books and this one makes no sense--literally and professionally. She is much, much better than this.

The entire book is an unending description of the MC's (Izzy) unwavering & irrational anger, bitterness, and stupid self-destructive maneuvering--which became tiresome way before the 15% mark. Literally tiresome, as in exhausting to the mind.

It's something that is supposed to be taken care of in the first chapter as a way to INTRODUCE a character's initial status and part of a conflict; not used as the ENTIRE plotline. (Please note: My level of frustration is in direct proportion to my strong belief in Ms. Doherty's talent, thus my incredible disappointment... did I mention how much I've been looking forward to her next book?)

The plot never moves at all as a result, i.e., there is no plot. Having THOROUGHLY enjoyed Ms. Doherty's other books (The Stand In Boyfriend, along with the Four Doors Down duet, have to be my very favorite of both tropes), for the first several chapters I was certain something-- anything!--was just about to happen. I mean, she's really, really good at this. Right?

But, alas, the "story" continues as is, merely a boring platform for an unending description of Izzy's ridiculous self-centered anger. She never develops as a character, as page after page is filled with the same inner dialogue expressing the same level of hatred and bitterness--the rotation of scenes providing the only slight variation on the theme. The other characters' solitary purpose is that of simple backboards for her monotonous volleys of blame and disdain, including, and especially, her twin, Ethan.

And then...the last few pages. Suddenly, during a long-overdue berating from Ethan's best friend Finn, in which finally (finally!) the highly anticipated over-sized "other shoe" is dropped, Izzy is filled with remorse and acknowledges--via more tortured inner dialogue--that her good twin never actually deserved the (hundreds & hundreds of pages-worth of) horrible treatment she shoveled upon him; that it was really SHE who turned away from him in HIS time of need.

And that's it. That's the big climax with its semi-resolution (being as it's "to be continued" in a 2nd book).

But, here's the deal: it was glaringly obvious from a very early point that Izzy's self-centered, immature perspective was to blame for all of her poisonous anger and uninspired self-destructive behavior. We may have been missing a few inconsequential details, but yeah, we already knew she was full of crap, totally self-centered, and emotionally stunted, and thus unable to process her mother's death.

But sadly (incredibly) this stagnated & tedious--not to mention extremely unlikable and unsympathetic-- monologue was the entire focus of a book. By a gifted author, no less.

Ugh. SO disappointing.

(Two stars bc, as with all of Ms. Doherty's stuff, there was great POTENTIAL in the basic setup: setting, backdrop, mood, MCs sketches, side character sketches, potential conflict(s), etc. And, I recognize this as a slight departure from her usual YA romance).

Goodness me this book is so good. It’s raw, heartbreaking and has me on the verge of tears so many times.
And I really just want to hug Izzy.
Izzy is from the uk, she’s estranged from her twin brother Ethan and her dad. But after her mum dies she’s forced to move from London to the US.
She’s dealing with her grief in not the best way further alienating her brother.
Ethan just wants his sister back. The sister he was once so close to. Their dad is absent and he wants to reconnect with Izzy.
But Izzy is determined to self destruct and with each bad decision she makes she’s driving Ethan further away.
This book is unlike any I’ve read before.
If I could I’d give it more stars.
Thankfully the wait for book 2 isn’t that far away as I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Carlington Twins Duet and i can tell you, it is a masterpiece. I have read book 2 as well, and this series is probably one of the best i have read. Izzy is such a strong character with so much emotion that she just keeps so bundled up with her tough exterior. Ethan cares for Izzy so much, but she just cannot forgive him for something that was really out of his control, and in the end, Izzy just blames herself. The romance aspect is amazing and is a slower-burn. There are obviously feelings between Izzy and another character (no spoilers), but Izzy can't get her ac together. I think that they make the cutest couple in the end though. I would really recommend this book and the whole series really. An easy 5 stars.

As a YA, “Fish Out Of Water” tale, I didn’t mind this story.

It’s well written and, the character’s are all integral to the stories narrative.

As a female lead, Izzy Kavanagh is beautiful ( daughter of ex UK teen model ) feisty, smart, and has a great sense of social justice, ( due to her mother being a Social Worker in London) so this makes her kind by nature.

She is also on a path of self destruction.

A year after her mothers sudden death from cancer at the age of thirty-six, Izzy has spent her time in London living off a diet of booze, pills and sex ( not necessarily in that order )

So after one to many benders, she is ordered by her estranged
, wealthy father to fly to the U.S to finish her final year of High School.in Texas.

She is not impressed.

Not only has she formed the opinion that, in her father’s eyes, she is nothing more than an inconvenience,

She can’t see the point of studying in the US when she will be covering the same work she has already done in her UK school.

However, her father is having none of it.
It helps that he also has leverage to get her living in his massive, home in Texas

It’s called a “ Trust Fund” left to both Izzy and her twin brother Ethan from their mother.
Both receive it when they turn eighteen.

However!

Daddy dearest has the power to withhold it until they are twenty-five if Izzy refuses to bend to his wishes.

Well, you can guess how things go for Izzy when she finally flys into Kellan, Texas from London.

She hates the her hand has been forced.
So, much, so, it takes her hours to leave the airport and eventually find her brother.

( frosty doesn’t BEGIN to describe the relationship between these two.
Izzy hasn’t seen him since she was twelve, and is disgusted with him for not being there when their mother was dying, only to realise, on the night she died, Ethan was…
Staring in an important footballer game )

Izzy is Brit!, through and through.

( she even has the accent )

Whereas her twin, Ethan is now a fully indoctrinated Texan.

He is good looking and popular in Kellan. With the obligatory cheerleader, bitchy girlfriend.

So, the bones if this story revolves around Izzy’s determination to disrupt her perfect brothers life, while trying to get by, doing as little as possible, school wise, until she can get her trust fund and jet back to the UK to attend University.
Without any help from her AWOL father.

Unfortunately, she soon discovers that her father practically OWNS the town with his “donations “ and everyone is quick to inform him of Izzy’s misdeeds.

She also has to deal with a bossy housekeeper, Maria.

A force of nature that is, Miss Joost, the loud Texan Guidance Counsellor

And!

The meddling of Ethan’s friends and teammates: Matty, Logan, and Finn

Finn…
The boy that is Ethan’s bestie, practically living in his back pocket.
Most likely to become Izzy’s Lobster (. If you know what I mean )

Yeah, some moments in this story are very cliche but,I could overlook them because the author didn’t have Izzy behaving in the traditional fashion.

This was refreshing for a female lead.

I actually liked her.

As the first in a two book series this one ends on a drama of sorts but, once again, totally believable.

This was such a great read. I read it in one sitting, no skimming, no slow points. I was completely caught up in the story and what was happening. Can’t wait to start the second book and see what happens.

The author has a Pattern. I don’t think I like it

I read 4 doors down and I feel the same given the story is completely different. First off book one is another slow burn. Too slow. Painfully slow. Almost to the point of being repetitious and boring. I don’t know how many time the author told us she missed her mom, has an irrational hate for her brother, was disgusted by her dad, and had a general indifference and disrespect for everyone else. Unlike 4 Doors down there doesn’t seem to be a point. The FMC is mean, selfish, and on active mission to destroy her life. By the halfway point I was over reading about her exploits. I just wanted to know when things would get better. It doesn’t. Now I’m left debating on if I really want to waste time on book 2. 4 Years later redeemed 4 doors down. I don’t know if I want to devote the time to see if book 2 will redeem all that’s left.

I received an advanced copy of this book.
At first it was a little hard to get into because of all the issues Izzy is going through, but I really ended up loving this book and really want to know what is going to happen with the twins. Ethan is so caring and just wants a family connection but his sister Izzy wants nothing to do with him. It makes me so sad to see the struggle ahead is going through and what she puts Ethan through as a result of her actions.

I received a free copy in exchange for a honest review. I wasn’t sure how this book would go but the synopsis sounded really good so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t put it down. The characters have so much depth to them. There’s so much pain and hurt but there’s also friendship which is something everyone needs. This is the first book I’ve ever read by this author and it won’t be my last. I’ve already ordered book 2 so I can find out what happens. Definitely recommend.

Bitter heroine is my kind of person.
Moreover, this particular heroine had valid reason as far as I’m concerned.
I think, this story and characters perfectly represent teenage mind.
Sometimes kind, sometimes selfish, insecure, honest, dishonest. Lost.
This focus on siblings not couple was so refreshing.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS DUET. Like re read a thousand times-highlighted and annotated the shit out it-know the lines by heart kind of love it.
Firstly I get that Izzy is beyond shitty, but I also get that she is so fucking hurting. And she cannot be on the same wavelength as his twin because sharing DNA does not make them the same person. And while I eventually did hate her very very extremely much for putting Ethan through so much shit, I mean they lost their mom. She coped in a shitty way but grief is complicated is it not?
Secondly Ethan, OHYMYGOD. I am the eldest sibling, and do not have a brother and I cannot lie and say I am not biased because I so am. Ethan is all I have wanted in my family for forever, for more than forever. So big kudos for writing the male lead we needed Emma, the male lead I know I did.
I cannot stress it enough- I love love love Finn. I cannot begin to say how much I love Finn.
Pipa, Rachel, maria and paul all grow on me so fucking much. LOVE THEM. I developed a soft spot for their gramma in the second book too please don't hate me.

does not disappoint

I really like Emma Doherty’s books and this one does not disappoint. Here’s the thing, grief is tragic and horrific and you really can’t blame people for the way in which they cope. Sure Izzy is self destructive, but like even after knowing how it happened from Ethan’s perspective and seeing how she could be the villain in his life. He’s still a part of the bad in hers too. It’s a really good book. It’s a nice look into both sides. I’m not sure why Finn is so involved with Izzy. I do get it as a best friend , but like not really his place - but also they need a bridge somewhere. ALSO I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT MARCUS- thank goodness we fixed that!!! Honestly, I don’t think this final straw for Ethan and Finn was really that bad cause she didn’t even understand it in the moment. But I do wish she would’ve given him an inch earlier. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

And another thing!! If it’s a “twin duet” then the twins should get equal POV, ESPECIALLY if you don’t want me to inherently be on Izzy’s side.

Wow.
Just wow. This book was heartbreaking. I find myself so angry for Izzy and Ethan. I just wanted to hug and shake Izzy and Ethan... god, Ethan. I read BOTH books in one sitting and i’m pretty sure i cried from 12% of the first book all the way through until the end of the second book.
This book genuinely wrecked me. I have a book hangover like no other. I NEED a book three.
I need more Ethan, Izzy and Finn.
I was genuinely surprised how the lack of romance in the book seemed to make it more authentic.
This book however IS a love story. It’s just not about romantic love. It’s about the love that never goes away, no matter how much you push at it.
I would and will be recommending this book to everyone i meet.

4.5 stars. Izzy and Ethan, twins who are estranged and at odds with each other. I loved the fire and spite in Izzy, it makes her self-destruction so intense. But under that is so much pain and agony and self-loathing. Ethan is an amazing person and brother, but Izzy is burning the bridge before it can be repaired. They have such raw and gut wrenching interactions, obviously there had to have been love before for them to react so harshly the way that they do no matter how much Izzy denies it. Hardly any romance, but I was so riveted on the fractured brother and sister dynamic that it didn’t matter, especially with Izzy adjusting to her new surroundings. I don’t know if rock bottom is low enough for Izzy, but she and Ethan deserve better than being alone individually without family.

Izzy

This book blew me away, I didn't expect all the angst and heartbreak between these siblings. You just felt so bad for Izzy and how she's dealing with her pain. Some parts it hurt to read what she was doing or dealing with her emotions. Ethan kinda surprised me and didn't know what he really felt until the end.

I loved this one and can't wait to read the second part of this duet!

Honestly it’s rare that I’d love a book series such as this but I absolutely did. I love seeing stories with angry, stubborn and hurt girls because rarely do I actually get to see them. This is an amazing duet about loss and healing and I just love seeing the characters relationship deteriorate and progress. The books aren’t very long but still pack a punch while feeling very fleshed out. I am definitely gonna buy a copy to own for rereads in the future.

Unexpectedly Brilliant

Found this book purely by accident and I have to commend the author on a really well written story. The narrative is heartbreaking but original and will keep you enthralled from start to finish. I don’t give spoilers but I guarantee you will love Ethan and possibly loathe Izzy. Such a good read.

2.5/3⭐️

I genuinely have never ready a book where the FMC was UNBEARABLE.

SHE NEEDS SERIOUS THERAPY.

I started off really enjoying this but about 60-70% in, I just could not tolerate her and her attitude and behaviour any longer.

It gets .5⭐️ more because of the way Finn spoke to her by the end by MAN did this want to make me pull out my hair.

I related to her. She was justified in her feelings. People forgive and forget too easily in books. Real pain like this takes a while to get over. It takes a while to want to even hear the other person's side.

Great story that focuses on familial relationships rather than high school romances. Full of the emotions that come with the loss of a loved one. And while the story is about Izzy and Ethan, it's Finn I like most.

I loved loved loved this book!!!! I loved the sibling bond that stayed strong in the end despite Izzy’s desperate attempts to destroy it. I loved the romance, but even more the sibling bond, it was heart warming to see the efforts they made to try and get their relationship back.

This is a hard one, it's not super enjoyable to read a book where the main character is so unlikeable and isn't showing any redeeming qualities. I can't muster even a little sympathy for her, which made this a bit of an unsatisfying slog.
