Bloody and bruised Sam Pope continue his war on criminal gang from Kiev to Rome. But as he kills his way through organize crime, to get to the head, he found himself in a new war…his past, project Hailstorm. Well, Sam is not normal for he is able to kill them all while heavily injured as usual. The story is nothing groundbreaking and many plot is your usual military thriller cliche. Still, the non stop action and bloody fight regardless of any reality or plausibility is quite fun but tiresome. I still want to know more but I think I have enough violent for now. I think I will take sometime to breath and if I’m still curious I will pick up more of Sam Pope, especially when I’m in the mood for violence.

When I read the first of the Sam Pope books I enjoyed it despite the many editing errors. It was a lively, reasonably tense and fast paced read with the main character’s flaws and psychological challenges adding a good mix of danger and angst.
The second book in the series retained those good features but repetition from the first book, by way of explanations into Sam Pope’s recent past became slightly irritating. The editing was even worse than the first book, with spelling mistakes, poor grammar and at one point a totally unexplained scene which left me wondering if a page or two had been left out completely. But I plodded on because the story was good and the characters basically believable.
Things came to a head though as I ploughed doggedly through the third book, now becoming irritated by the numerous editing errors and bored by the constant reruns of what had happened in the previous two books. Then came the final straw at around two thirds of the way through when one of the main characters, a tough and battle hardened large, black law enforcer came out with the phrase, ‘Well, slap my sausage!’ Really? In the middle of a torture room where he finds an acquaintance unconscious, having been water boarded, with most of his fingers broken, and bleeding out from a bullet hole in his knee, the best he can manage is ‘Slap my sausage!’ Then in his following statement he uses the word ‘fuck.’ It was like something from a Carry On film. I closed the book at that point and I shall not be continuing with the series.

I have been a big fan of the Sam Pope series so far and Long Road Home definitely has some great moments. The action scenes are well written and exciting and the story brings in some interesting new elements like secret organisations and hidden conspiracies. You can tell that the author is trying to expand the world and set things up for bigger things later in the series which I really liked.

Sam Pope is still a brilliant main character. He is tough but relatable and you always want him to come out on top. The book keeps a good level of tension and there are some real page turning moments. I also appreciated the bigger sense of scale compared to the earlier books.

That said I did feel that the pacing was a bit off at times. The story takes a while to really get going and there are a few points where it felt like it lost a bit of focus. Some of the new characters and plotlines could have been explained a little better too. I found myself having to stop and think about who was doing what which pulled me out of the action a bit. I also missed some of the emotional depth that the earlier books had where Sam’s personal struggles felt a bit more front and centre.

Overall I still enjoyed Long Road Home and I will definitely keep reading the series. It has all the ingredients of a good thriller but for me it just lacked a little of the punch and heart that made the first two books so gripping. A solid entry in the series but not the strongest one.

One trick pony.

The author's continual regurgitation of events from the previous novels is infuriating. For me his first in the series was very readable, alas it was a flash in the pan and those following I think are simply a waste of time and money for potential readers. Just don't bother.

Fast moving thriller.

A fast moving thriller that has Pope endeavouring to trace a friend and colleague wrongly accused of being a traitor while closely monitored by a team of guns for hire. Rescue of his friend comes to late for Pope although their previous contact has him looking after the evidence to bring down the guilty involved in cover ups in Political/military and police circles. Their attempts to silence Pope has him seriously injured and nobody suffering this way even with help to escape would have this much good fortune which leaves the unfinished story a bit weak.

Long Road Home -

Book 3 in the series. Sometimes after a great start to a series books can lose their quality. That’s not the case with the Sam Pope series. This book was as good as the first two, and maybe even better. It is full of action from start to finish. While this could be read stand-alone, reading the first two will provide greater context to the story and more importantly you’d be missing out on two cracking books. I don’t like to provide any plot information in my reviews, but I would say the ending sets up book 4. I will definitely be downloading book 4. An easy 5 out of 5 from me.

44-2021. Our hero, Mr. Pope, is only a week after the last book, and is still crazily injured. Yet, he is able to go and lay waste to bad guys and survive untold concussive head blows (and plenty of gunshots as well). This ability to survive incredible damage drops a star. The bad guys include some ambitious regular police chiefs who seem able to look away from obvious bad actors. The violent action is gruesome, but our guy gets some stuff done. There is still plenty to be done in sequels. Again, I’ll have to wait a while before hanging out with Sam Pope.

Oh my days, this book started slowly then wham bang thank ma'am it all kicked off. I was gripped and on the edge of my seat waiting for what Sam was gonna do next. There was twists and turns that I was having trouble keeping up with. The ending was one that I didn't expect and was left on a cliff hanger that makes you wanna read the next installment quick to see what happens next because you don't know the outcome on some of the story line. But you do get to know the identity of the man in black........... Highly recommended an I can't wait to read the next book

Meh

Better than the first book in the series but the author's repeated use of the same descriptors and relentless repetition of character's thoughts and memories caused me to skip ample sections of chapters.

Entertaining but filled with plot holes big enough to drive a car through, and the main character making mistakes that their purported training would not make.

Over-the-top violence and implausible outcomes with the main character surviving more gunshots and stabbings in the first 3 books than a year of NYC street crime.
Hopefully the series gets better

I like this series. It may not look it when I highlight things that annoy me, but the author is good, and his characters are likeable. I don't know if it's because Americans are much more used to guns than the English but there are some errors in that regard that could be editing or not. Also, I think a few things are just language differences. If it is self-edited it's not bad. But the books are good enough for a company to pick up and do all that work for the author.

I loved the story line and where it is headed. The characters are well thought out, but there are a lot of repetition - I could easily skip pages of repeated info I just read the previous chapter, let alone further back. It would be pointless to read the first two books as it summarises (constantly) everything that happened! Bit disappointing to have to wait so long for it to move forward when reading about what happened in each chapter!

This series still keeps me keeps my attention. The action is very well written and it’s very easy to follow. The anguish, anger, and his determination definitely keeps me connected. The secondary characters are strong and are given a lot of character development of their own. I know don’t know how much more Sam’s body can take but boy I hope this doesn’t end anytime soon.

Five Stars

Non stop action from the beginning to the end. I have now read the first three books in the series and the two novella’s. I have enjoyed all of them and will now start book number 4, Too Far Gone. A big thank you to the author Robert Enright and from me another well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Non Stop

What a great read. I really like the way the writer reviews the past to keep the reader informed. Sam is collecting a following the seems to be in the right place at the right time. Really fast paced and very interesting ad it exposes the the bad guys. I highly recommend this to our readers, I spent the day reading again.

Enjoyable read, fast pace thriller as were the previous two. I would have given it 5 stars if it was not for the many editorial errors - assume someone is paid to read through post ‘printing’ pre publishing. Have just bought book 4 in the Sam Pope series, can’t wait to get stuck into it later this evening.

Another thrilling episode in the Sam Pope series. Battered and bruised, shot sevreral times our hero still survives to tell the tale. Really enjoyed this one but Robert Enright - please get a decent proof-reader. So many spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and typos.

Incredible

I love these books. I'm not going to review reach one as they are all the escapades of Sam Pope , in his bid to see justice done. they are fast paced., brutal and unsustainable, but you need a strong stomach!

Brilliant, suspenseful, edge of your seat read

The third book in this series I've read in the past couple of weeks. Can't wait to begin the next one. The characters grow on you and you grow to despise the ones against Sam

Enjoying this series of high action books. One star deducted for constantly explaining the back story in each novel. Need to be read in order. Most readers will be following this excellent series so the constant repetition of previous plots takes something away, great series overall though,

Another rollercoaster ride with Sam Pope

Continuing his quest to clean up the streets by reducing criminal activity becomes complicated when Sam is coerced into finding his old mentor by a nefarious government agency but things don't go to plan.

I've read these books one after the other as so good you don't want to end! Sam is like a cat with 9 lives! He's continually seeking to get to the core of all the evil on the world he sees but as always there's more powerful people than him trying to stop him getting the truth!

Audible. Ok. I finished book 3 in the set of 1-3 for one audible credit. I liked it ok but I don’t think I will carry on with the series. The characters are very one-dimensional and there is a lot of anger-revenge motivated violence in this series.

Another Sam Pope saga!

I liked Sam being humanized even more in this book. Great character development here.
I was planning on stepping away from the series for a bit, but now I gotta read book 4. So well written, such good stories.
