When someone tells you who you are, do you believe them?

The first question the cops asked me was if anything out of the ordinary happened to me lately.

When I woke up this morning in the room of a mental institution I couldn’t remember a thing – not my name nor how I got there. Not how I left or how I ended up in that interrogation room.

The only thing I knew came from the contents inside my bag. A wallet, a student ID, a key that opened an unknown door, and two notebooks.

They tell me my name. It matches my IDs.

They tell me my story. I shut my eyes and try to piece it together, but can’t.

They tell me why they picked me up in the first place. They thought I was my sister. My brain stays stuck there. I try to rewind and fast-forward, as if my memories were on a videotape, but it’s no use. I can’t recall having a sister.

They put me back in the car and drop me off in front of a mansion they call The Manor and I discover what the mysterious key in my backpack opens the front door, and just as quickly wish I’d never unlocked it at all.

Poor Eva Guerra wakes up in an asylum with no memory about her last night or how she got there! Of course the worst part of her morning wasn’t opening her eyes at a mental institution! After being discharged, she bumps into the officers and finds herself locked into a cell. Two times lockdown less than 24 hours must be record for them.

Now she gives daring look to the detective who is questioning her whereabouts in the interrogation room and throughout her talking with detective, she surprisingly finds out she has a twin sister (Eva never knew her real parents, raised by foster care system) which makes her shocked and the other facts about her sister: she has been adopted by one of the wealthiest and powerful families and last time she has seen at Swords Secret Society Manor.

So she gets an offer from her twin’s father needs her help to find her. She will take place of her sister and she’ll start digging out more information about dynamics and dirty secrets by putting herself into dangerous position. But at least she will get paid and as a bonus she’ll also learn the truth about her own past.

As soon as she finds herself inside the manor, she is introduced to president, Adam, who is being charged to take care of her. They form a loyal friendship and become accomplice to find out the secrets together and as you may imagine they become more than friends throughout their action packed, breathtaking, adventurous journey.

Overall: Romance parts of the book failed me. I was expecting hot chemistry just like between Mae and Logan ( first book’s lovely protagonists) Adam and Eva seem like more friendly and their love interest was not persuasive enough for me.

And most of the twists, revelations are foreseeable but it was still intriguing, fast paced page turner with likable characters and I always liked to read more about dark, intense, gothic, eerie secret society theme.

So I’m rounding up 3.5 stars to 4! And I’m curious about the third installment!

When someone tells you who you are, do you believe them?

After reading ‘Half Truths’ last year, I knew I wanted more from this world. I was so excited to start Twisted Circles. A new secret society with some different players, and some of the same. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. This story was one wild ride and was a fantastic romantic suspense.

Twisted Circles follows Eva Guerra. She’s lost her memory for a few days, and doesn’t know what’s going on. But she wakes up at a police station being told she has a twin sister she needs to help. Her sister is in danger, missing, and the only way to help her is to become her for the time being.

Eva’s sister was invited to be initiated into the Swords. The most elusive and secretive of the secret societies at Ellis. Eva isn’t sure if this is a good idea, but she needs answers and she’s desperate to help her sister and find out what’s really going on in her life.
“I’m done with playing it safe.” I stood up, holding the folder to my chest. “I need truth.”
“Truth always comes with a price.”
“I’m ready to pay whatever it costs.”

When she gets to The Manor and meets Adam, she’s not sure what to think at first. She’s not sure if she can trust anyone. But Adam quickly becomes an ally and eventually becomes so much more. Now she has someone to help her find answers. As the president of the Swords, Adam may be able to find out more than Eva ever could on her own. But will they like the answers they find…

This was a book that kept me thinking. I had so many guesses and theories and some of them were right, and some of them were completely wrong. This story sucked me in and It stayed on my mind for days. It was a captivating read, but one I took my time reading because I wanted to absorb it all so I didn’t miss anything.

I’m so glad that Claire is continuing on with this series. Nolan is the person I’ve most been interested in and I can’t wait to read more about him, especially since seeing so much more of him in this book. I also would love a story about Will, and maybe even Stella! There are so many stories we could get from this world and I get excited thinking about it.

If you’re looking for a unique romantic suspense that has steam, secrets, and suspense, this is the book for you. It’s full of twists and turns and will keep your eyes glued to the pages!

'TWISTED CIRCLES' is the second full length romance book in Claire Contreras 'Secret Society' series. This can be read as a standalone. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

Like the first book we're thrust back in the same environment where we found ourselves in the first book, and like beforehand mystery yet again surrounds this establishment, another person has been reported missing, now it's up to one girl to go in as someone else and uncover the truth.

Eva Guerra has no apparent memory of what happened to her a few days ago, leaving her confused and bewildered, but is determined to find out exactly what happened to her. People close to her are only to quick to give her detailed accounts of where she'd been and what she'd been doing. All she recalls was waking up at the institute, walking out, and the next thing she'd been picked up by the cops and taken to the station to be interrogated, having no idea why. But ask her what her job was and she could remember that she's a teachers assistant at a small parish school whilst studying her elementary education.

Whilst there they show her a picture, which looks like her but isn't her, and it's then she learns that she has a twin sister, Stella who has gone missing. Eva's mission is to take Stella's place in the Manor.

Once Eva steps foot on Ellis University things start getting interesting. She's first introduced to Adam whose the president of the 'Swords,' and her sponsor. Nothing is as it seems. Everyone has a role to play, everyone is keeping secrets, and we've got a front row seat as we watch it all unfold. Who can she trust? Whose telling the truth?

The 'Swords' is a historically male driven society, very few woman are actually chosen, but to join like many before her she has to survive the initiation.

This was such an intricate tale, the plot kept me intrigued, the anticipation of uncovering facts and fiction had me speeding through the pages, uncovering buried truths a century old had me enjoying this ride the author put me on.

"But, as I stood there, my gaze on the licks of the flame, I realized I didn't know a thing about responsibility. And worse, I didn't want it. If being responsible for someone was going to make me feel this helpless, I'd rather not have it, because as she stepped toward the fire and stood still on the other side of it, my heart leaped into my throat. I knew that there were only two things I could do and both ensured the same outcome: we were all doomed."

Well, this might be the most difficult review I write this year, and for two reasons: first, because I jumped right into book 2 in the series, so I can offer you little insight into how the series started (although this installment reads well as a standalone), and two, because this book is a landmine of spoilers, full of twists and turns galore. Oh, you think you've read twisty thrillers before? Think again. This one has new reveals in just about every single chapter, and this it the type of whiplash that I can get behind.

Yes, if you're jumping into this on your own time, I have a feeling that the secret societies are discussed in greater depth in Half Truths, so if you're wanting the greatest level of detail and explanation, I would start there, but if you are just looking for an intense mystery featuring secret societies and perhaps some nefarious other institutions as well? Look no further. This is technically romantic suspense, but I would really say that the focus is more on the suspense with a sprinkling of young love thrown in. If you're the least bit curious about this book, please take a chance on it, because I was completely surprised from beginning to end on how this story played out.

*Many thanks to the author and Valentine PR for my review copy.

Twisted Circles is the second standalone thriller in the Secret Society Series. Eva Guerra lives in a college town that has been infiltrated by secret societies and powerful people with old money. When she is asked to do the unthinkable in order to find out the truth about a dark secret, she is forced to leave her comfort zone and walk through the door of the Swords Secret Society Manor unprotected and alone. Inside the doors of the manor is the Society President Adam. Adam has been charged with taking care of Eva and helping her acclimate to the ways of the Swords. In order to be initiated, she must prove that she is worthy. However, when the truth begins to unfold, it is doubtful that Eva will be able to survive.

"You're a monster. You're all monsters."
Told in multiple POV, Twisted Circles has a twisted plot and numerous surprises with every turn of the page. Adam and Eva form a quick friendship and although it takes a while for their relationship to transform into something more, I felt the progression was natural and made sense for them considering the circumstances in which they are living in. In order to truly escape into this crazy world, you will need to suspend your understanding of norms and allow yourself to live in the extreme and on the edge! Everything about Eva’s past and her current plight is unbelievable and yet, somehow Ms. Contreras has crafted a dark and delicious story that will keep you enthralled from the first moment to the last.
"I love you, you know that, right?"
Overall, Twisted Circles will appeal to readers who enjoy a thrilling read with a dash of romance set in a college town. I have been a huge fan of Claire Contreras for many years as she never fails to deliver! She is an exquisite storyteller and this series delivers another unforgettable ensemble of characters. I look forward to more greatness to come!

Edit: Bonus scene available in Claire's website. ❤️

Wow... I have to say that I drove myself into these books totally blinded! I haven't read the first book when I signed for this ARC, but I had to! I mean... Secret society by Clare with that cover? Count me in!

I'm not disappointed at all!
I don't even know how to leave a review that described all the plots and the twisted things, without ruining someone's experience.

I'll say that if you love a twisted mystery, with lots of secrets and when all that you think that it's a sure thing, turns out to be creepier and nastier then you expected and that will turn you upside-down, this series is for you!

Adam is a man of science and the president of a secret society connected with clerical people. He's smart, focused and loyal to them... Until Eva.

Eva is a mess! She has angry issues. She doesn't remember parts of her life. She's just lost and lonely until her blurred path crosses with The Swords.

But this book is soooo much more than just a love story... The love story is a little slow burn and isn't the shotgun here... Eva's life and the twisted circles are, and it is amazing!

Can't wait for the next!
Bring it on my favorite Manwhore Nolan!

Twisted Circles is the sequel to Half Truths. Twisted Circles can be read as a standalone, but the ending of Half Truths is given away. If you are planning on reading both books definitely start with Half Truths.

Twisted Circles is full of suspense with some romance. Twisted Circles is darker than Half Truths. Twisted Circles contains rape.
Eva finds out she has a twin sister and is asked to take her place. Eva ends up in the Swords initiation. Eva tries to figure out what happened to her twin and where she is. Then Eva starts to realize that maybe she was always meant to be at the initiation. Twisted Circles is action packed.

I listened to the audiobook. Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did a good job narrating.

5 Twisted Crowns

Suspense romance is my favorite, and Claire has a knack for writing my absolute favorite, the ones where nothing is ever quite as it seems. Twisted Circles rivals my very favorite suspense romance from Claire and sits as one of my favorites by her.

The star of the show is Eva, the heroine of the novel, and Adam is a delectable piece of eye candy that plays the supporting role as the hero. This is pretty opposite to most romance novels, but I absolutely loved that Eva was the one sorting it all out. She is strong and smart, and she adapts so well as details are revealed and secrets unearthed.

Adam is charming in the way he supports and loved her throughout the whole ordeal, and his ability to contemplate and change his mind and positions on matters as the novel progresses is beyond attractive. I love a progressive man.

This plot, which I can’t say much about as almost everything would be a spoiler, will keep you on the edge of your seat. Readers will be trying to piece all the facts together to solve the mystery along with the characters, and they will become enthralled in every piece. The romance, while it takes a back seat to the main plot line, is still there. Adam and Eva are phenomenal together and work as a team. Their romance is believable and this is enough steam to keep romance lovers engaged while still keeping the main plot line at the forefront. I’m absolutely loving this entire world.

Claire Contreras continues to astound with her new standalone SECRET SOCIETY series. Readers get romance, suspense and intrigue, and topics that speak to many relevant social issues we as a society face today. Twisted Circles is definitely sitting at the top of my 2020 favorite list.

2.5 Stars 🌟

Twisted Circles is the 2nd book in the Secret Society series but can be read as a standalone. It is a suspense/mystery, secret society college romance that deals with some interesting and difficult topics but unfortunately I found this book to be very underwhelming.

This is definitely a book that works best going into blindly and I can see a lot of people enjoying this one but sadly I did not connect to the story or the characters at all. It felt like the story was trying to go in a bunch of different directions and included some solid and intriguing topics like mental health, sociology, sexual assult, the use of power and manupulation in the workforce, race, culture, religion, sexism, and inequalities. There was a lot of other agenda type situations that came up and even though all topics are interesting and important I feel if the story had focused on one major topic and really delved into it, it would've given me more time to connect with the story as a whole. It just felt like too much was thrown in just for the sake of it and anytime I tried to connect with something another thing was thrown in.

This book had a lot of potential but in the end was just an ok read for me. Nothing really shocked or wowed me but there were definitely parts of the story I enjoyed more than others and had the story stayed on one particular path but intricately woven the build up of the society in with that (I can't really say what the specific topic is as it would be a spoiler) then I think this would've been the book for me. I also wish the book had spent more time on setting up the society like it had in book one, even though this was set in a completely different secret society than the one in half truths that book did a better job a world building.

It was very light on the romance aspect with the Male MC Adam really only feeling like he was there for a bit of eye candy and to add a bit of steam though as the romance felt a little flat to me and honestly I would've prefered if it wasnt included at all and was just friends working together to solve the mystery or if the romance was built up and focused on more but that's just my opinion.

I liked Eva's character and I liked Adam's character but together there just wasnt enough there for me to believe their relationship or connection. Also Adam's character didn't make sense as he was supposedly the president of the society yet up until now we are meant to believe he had no idea what was happening and that he was purposely left clueless this whole time even though it seemed to me he was a very perceptive and smart guy so the fact he was in the dark marority of the story and didn't even question it was a little contradicting and didn't feel genuine. Also a lot of the time Eva felt naive and too trusting while not being trusting at all. Like you would think she would keep some of her findings to herself but I felt like she gave in and told/trusted more people than she really should've.

There was also a secondary character thrown in late in the book and honestly other than being there for the purpose of a number I really didn't enjoy their introduction as like most of the book we weren't given enough time to connect and adjust before it moved on I didn't like how felt messily tied in.

I really enjoy how the author included a bit at the end explaining where her inspiration for a lot of the plot came from and again all very fascinating yet disturbing topics/situations but again I wish the story had focused on 1 thing and really took its time to perfect it. This is all just my opinion and I do think most would enjoy this story and if you enjoy good psychological based mystery then give this one a go

4 SINISTER STARS

TRIGGER WARNING

First I just want to start off by saying that get ready to get your mind fucked. Each chapter I finished, I ended up being more confused and with MORE questions that NEEDED to be answered. The author really does keep you on your toes. I normally lay down while reading books but with this one I was literally getting up after every minute because something would get thrown at me.

Like this book confused me so much to the point I was like is the Female lead really even named EVA!? Does she really even have a sister? What if all of this is just a dream and towards the end she would just wake up and realize she is in a mental institute because she is really sick? So many questions that were answered only towards the very end. Answers I was not expecting at all. Revelations I was NOT prepared for.

Brief Summary

Eva wakes up in a mental institution that she is fairly aware of but this time she doesn’t remember checking herself in. She also has no memory of the past few days and when she checks herself out, she is taken into the station for interrogation. There she learns she has a twin sister Stella, who has gone missing. A distress father asks Eva to pretend to be Stella and enter the secret society’s Manor to find out what happened to her. As Stella was chosen to be part of the secret society and went missing the night she was supposed to go the Manor.

Once Eva agrees to the plan and goes to the Manor there she gets more than she bargained for, leaving her more confused and distressed. Who can she really believe? What is the whole purpose of the secret society? Big revelations and Plot twists make things even more complicated. Eva was always going to be part of the secret society whether Stella went missing or not. Why? Well you have to read the book to find that out.

Twisted Circles is a mystery romance, college standalone with twists you wouldn’t see coming from miles away.

The reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars was because one specific plot, even when justified, I didn’t agree with it.
Also I LOVED Adam and Eva together but their relationship escalated to quick for my liking. Also I wished Adam had more influence with regards to the society because he seemed equally clueless about what actually happens there. Well more like he didn’t really give a care since he only joined for the connections. But still I wished he had some sort of influence at least.

FIVE TWISTED STARS for Eva and Adam ❤🖤❤🖤!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Since I hadn’t read the previous book in the "Secret Society" series, I had no idea what to expect from this book.

What at first attracted me to this book was its blurb which sounded very interesting.

Those who follow me know how much I love reading suspense romance so it’s not so unusual that I decided to read this book.

What I liked the most in this book was that from the very beginning the plot is tense and that it simply pulls you to read it without break until the very end.

Each new chapter gives an answer to the previous one but it also gives a new secret that you want to discover immediately.

What distinguishes it from other suspense romances is that it does not revolve around a love plot, but it has a secondary role.

"Twisted Circles" is a suspense romance with a secret society trope.

Eva is a female character who intrigued me from the very beginning and I liked the way she dealt with every situation and the desire to discover the real truth about herself.

Adam is a male character who surprised me a bit and whom I really fell in love with. His relationship with Eva is so special that it melted my heart every time.

Eva and Adam are a couple who, despite all obstacles, managed to find a way to each other and proved that soulmates really exist.

If you're looking for a suspense romance and you also love Claire's writing style, then this is the book you NEED TO READ NEXT!!!

Highly recommended!!!

- 3.5 stars -

Twisted Circles is a fast-paced romantic suspense where you don't know what to believe. I loved that we were thrown right into the heart of the story where we are introduced to the main character Eva who doesn't remember how she ended up at a mental institution. I had no idea what to expect and who to trust, but I loved being on this mysterious and secretive quest with Eva. She definitely didn't had an easy life, and now she doesn't know what is going on and if she can trust her own judgement and the people around her. If you read Half Truths, the previous book in the series, then you already have somewhat of an idea of what is going on in these secret societies. There were many twists and turns and I was definitely invested in uncovering all the secrets.

However, I thought the book was a bit on the short side. I wanted to know more about the secret societies and their inner workings. Furthermore, I wanted more romance, I just couldn't really feel a strong connection between Eva and Adam. I really liked both of them as individuals, and I wanted to see more of them as a couple. Their romance was sprinkled into the story, and I couldn't see a strong growth in their relationship. Keep in mind that this is a romantic suspense novel, so I wasn't expecting the same amount of romance and focus on the relationship as I would in a contemporary romance. But it was something I was missing in this story and wanted more of. Overall, this is very enjoyable, unpredictable and suspenseful story. Also it had a very nice flow and intrigued me until the end. I finished the book in two days, which is very rare for me nowadays. I look forward to the next book in the series.

As he entered me slowly, fully, my hips billowing for more, which he gave, I realized that I didn’t want him to be a stranger. With each thrust he gave, my back arched in acceptance, and with our eyes still connected, I knew that above anything else, I didn’t want him to be one of the countless faceless men in my wake.

Tags: Romantic Suspense, College Romance, Cults, Slow Burn, Twins

CHARACTERS

Eva Guerra, 20; Brown eyes, brown hair sassy and unattainable (unless she lets so), she is a broken character, but she is powerful; if only she were less reserved.

Adam Barnaby Astor, 21; Hazel eyes, dark hair (?); Cool, cold but gentle, the perfect boyfriend material, and he plays the PIANO (my weakness)

I liked both of them very much. Adam is not a full of himself + possessive jerk type of hero for a change. Eva is the real pusher and she is their relationship dominator. Also, she is the type of person who makes only one-night stands until the one who is Adam here.

“Why not?” “I’ll ruin you,” she whispered. “I ruin everyone.”
“I’m already ruined, Eva.”

PROS

*Amazing Cover
*Eva and Adam: Loveable characters + great chemistry + great relationship - I loved their relationship in each state)
*Great couple balance
*Great dialogues
*The suspense
*Acting as the Twin trope
*Cloaks (Red)
*Adam is not a dirty talker. He is even silent during sex (love you boi)
*Slow Burn + good tension
*Tiny scene of Amelia and Logan

I pressed my nose against hers. She closed her eyes and leaned forward, just a touch, and when her whiskey-fueled lips touched mine, and her tongue coated my own, I felt my chest rattle. How many women had I kissed? Thirty? Forty? How many times had I kissed her? Twice? Three times? Somehow, this felt different. She tasted like wildflowers, untamed, and unexpected.

FOOTNOTES

*Eva falls asleep when she's stressed; I know It’s a disease (I am sorry), but wow, that’s cool! Adam claimed it to be vasovagal syncope, and I will definitely search about it.

*The cults are so man-dominated. Almost a few women are members, It’s sad, but this truth is also given as a wrong reality that needs to be improved.

*I don’t mind having an introduction of the CULTS page in the books...

OVERALL

*The Swords (their cult) is way darker than the Eights (first book); it was obvious in the hints from that book but, the topics are more triggering and sensitive here. This cult is more religious also...

*I am sad about the ending, but I knew that It would happen; the story structure is almost the same as the first one. The characters are different, the subject is different, but the story is processed in the same layout. (with Half-Truths)

*Overall, it was a great read; It was suspenseful, exciting, romantic, fun, sad, sexy, and enjoyable.

*So the next story is about Nolan - Adam's twin and Logan's best bud - and a girl named Scarlet? Fingers crossed - I am waiting for it!

!AVAILABLE!

"You've been hand-selected to potentially join our society, The Swords."

This was a complicated, yet very intriguing story that i enjoyed very much!!!
This book had so many twists in it that you couldn't think straight from the many guesses that you had to do!!!
The plot was very interesting and even though i guessed right some things, the author didn't stop to surprise me furthermore...
This was a unique story that picked up my interest from page one.

"It wasn't enough that they fed you to the wolves once?"

Well, Eva had woken on The Institute with no memory of the past two days and immediately was picked up by the police for interrogation!!!
Eva knew who she was and she was remembering everything from her life, except these last few days...
At the police, she realized that she had a twin sister who was missing and she was asked to go in The Manor, as Stella, in order to find more about her sister's disappearance!!!

"I may not remember what happened to me these last two days, but that didn't mean I had no memory prior and I knew I hadn't been here."

So, Stella is entering a new world with a key that she had unexpectendly in her bag and she has to go through the initiation in order to survive and find out more about her sister...
In there, she is finding herself to be drown to the president of The Swords, Adam, who is also her sponsor, but can she really trust him and let him in???

"Don't trust anyone in here, you hear?"

As you can see, things got really complicated and i just touched the top of the iceberg.
The things that were happening in here were insane, but you couldn't not been drown to them!!!
Yep, there was happening something between Eva and Adam, but the romance part was taking a backseat in the mystery that was surrounding everything around Eva and her sister.... The Societies... The Swords... The religious people that were surrounding them... The missing pieces that could made them whole!!!

"I'm done with playing it safe. I need truth."
"Truth always comes with a price."
"I'm ready to pay whatever it costs."

If you are looking a book full of suspense and mystery, this is one book that you had to pick up...
Claire Contreras had built very well a crazy and unbelievable story that will make you question everything!!!

"I couldn't continue to lose myself in someone else's identity. Not when I'm on the verge of losing my own."

Wow! Claire Contreras' second standalone book in her Secret Society series was fantastic. I was on board for all the romantic suspense twists and turns and never wanted to get off this crazy ride! Adam and Eva were fantastic. I enjoyed their camaraderie and the connection they shared.

Twisted Circles was full of the enthralling and compelling storyline of the cloak and dagger secret societies from the first book with added drama that no one will see coming! While I will say Adam and Eva's romance took a backseat at times to the prevalent suspenseful arc in this story, both leads held their own and overall their love story was sweet and satisfying.

In addition, on a personal note, I loved that Contreras included a multicultural mix of characters. It was an added cherry on top of a top notch story full of suspense, friendship, love and a heart pumping mystery that took my breath away!  Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Wow. This book has a brilliant, engaging, addictive story that I found myself captivated by from the beginning to the end.

Twisted Circle is the second book in the Secret society series and although it can be read separately, it is good to remember that this book takes place in the universe of Half truth and we return to the world of secret society full of secrets, twists and mysteries. I will not go into the detail of the story because it would spoil the reading, believe me that the beauty of the book is to experience the feelings it brings without knowing what or who to believe in, but I can say that the book brings an addictive and very good storyline written .

This book, as in the previous book, the romance between the characters is not the main point of the book, but that didn't bother me at all because the central point of this series is the secret of secret societies and their twists and turns, and in that I think the author Claire Contreras did a brilliant job.

This book took me on a wild journey and I just loved it and I hope more books will come.

Wow.

I Received an unreleased copy of this book

On one hand, I liked it - and then on the other, this was a wholeass mess.
description

Hold on, let me explain.
The premise: 10/10
The characters: 5.5-6/10
The execution: 3/10

That doesn't actually explain too much. I loved the premise, especially after the last one. I was getting more and more intrigued with the story but most characters served no actual purpose. There was literally no connection (building) between the protagonists. They meet, they find each other attractive and that's somehow an unspoken agreement to be together/exclusive/try? Idk, this wasn't an one-night-stand so I was expecting something and there was quite literally nothing. Unless Amazon fucked up? (There were also a ton of formatting errors - repeating sentences/paragraphs, weird spacing, typos - so I do think the wires got crossed somewhere.)

Also, there was so much happening!! I'm hoping some of it will be fleshed out in future stories because she can't just leave it all hanging like that. I'd have liked it if she'd taken more time to flesh things out more.

“Twisted Circles” takes us back to Ellis University to the twisted incidents linked to the secret societies. The best way to find answers to the ancient secrets surrounding The Swords is to go into it blindly. Be prepared to be captivated by our MC, Eva Guerra as she finds herself tangled with the red cloaks. She will push and pull for explanations to the dark mysteries as it plays mind games with her past...questioning everything she knows.

Twisted Circles

Eva can’t seem to trust anyone at Ellis U expect for the one person who is determine to make her feel things she never felt before, Adam Astor. Eva’s pull on Adam will have him bringing down walls he pledge and swore to protect.

"She tasted like wildflowers, untamed and unexpected."

Once more, Claire Contreras had me on pins and needles. I was completely fixated on both Eva and Adam's relationship through the entire book. Eva’s character development had me invested from the very beginning. Her fears and desires and motivations became my own. Every piece of the puzzle was intense from beginning to end. I was immersed completely on the suspense side of the book it never felt as if if lack the romance. Most of the book is centered on Eva and Adam finding answers to the mysterious circumstances surrounding The Swords.
*This is part of a series, however each book is a stand-alone. I recommend reading book 1 Half Truths to get acquainted with Logan & Amelia. 😍

I received an ARC through Valentine PR for a honest review.

I found this book randomly and I confess I couldn't remember much about book one so it thrilled me when I realized that fact doesn't matter... the hero is one of the side characters in book one and the heroine is a new character..and she steals the show here!! I loved her as the narrator and the pace of the storyline is overall on point!!
I couldn't stop listening. The mystery is engaging and not predictable...All the time I was expecting what will happen next and who was behind all of it... even though the romance takes a side role; it was still very much present and enjoyable...

This is absolute brilliance! A case of amnesia is where this begins. Eva Guerra has found herself with no memory of what’s happening in her life. Asked to help find a missing girl, she doesn’t know who to trust. A secret society and lots of twists will be unlocked as Eva tries to peace together the truth. That’s how she meets one Adam Astor. Can he trust her in return? What is the truth in this maze of secrets? It’s difficult to write a review as I don’t want to give any spoilers away. This is an Intense & captivating college mystery that will have you turning the pages until the end. So many twists and discoveries your head will spin! We’re going back to the mysterious Ellis University campus. What a well written and mesmerizing story! I could not put this down. I loved the connection between Adam and Stella. Anyone who loves a great mystery will want to read this book. Told in dual POV

I thought this was going to be a continuation of Logan and Amelia. They showed up briefly. I wanted to see where their lives took them. This is about a whole different secret society. There was a lot of twists. It was decent.

„Truth always comes with a price.”

After reading Twisted Circles, I needed a few days to collect my thoughts, because Claire Contreras literally blew my mind. This freaking book! This story is so masterfully constructed that I felt like I was in the middle of a maze, collecting clues and trying to find a way out, where I’m gonna get all the answers. During this read I was balancing between dream and reality, truth and imagination, not knowing what would happen next. Every minute I've been blindsided by the unexpected twists and turns from which my jaw was constantly hitting the floor. This book is a complete wild ride!

The suspense in this story kept me in a state of total addiction. I absorbed every scrap of information and tried my best to put everything together. This book is one big mystery which, with its complexity, led me to the edge of insanity. Twisted Circles is such a page-turner that I devoured it in one evening because I wasn’t able to stop this brilliant journey. The mystery, secret societies, thrilling romance, social issues- this book is a perfect mix of all of that. And it’s so brilliantly written that you'll consume it on a single breath. Twisted Circles is a romantic suspense at its best!

Such a tangled web of secrets and lies. Pledging to a secret society to find out the truth becomes more than she ever expected. A crazy ride of deception and twisted rituals that will have you questioning everyone’s motives.

Eva is approached by a stranger and asked to attend the initiation for The Swords. Unbeknownst to her, she has a sister who is missing. It’s now up to her to find out what happened to her. To find out the truth, she will have to become Stella Thompson. To become a Sword, she will have to survive initiation.

Adam is her sponsor. He’ll be by her side to guide her. Women are rarely given the opportunity to join. She’ll have to mentally tough to succeed. Adam will become her rock.

As the story unfolds, Eva will discover her truth. However, getting others to believe her will be the challenge. Nothing is as it seems. Those she trusted all her life may not be who she thought. As a girl she struggled with fitting in. She’ll find out the root of her problem. All the while, she’ll find the family she always deserved through The Swords, who will stand beside her.

This is not a story for the faint of heart. Courage will be tested. Loyalty will be questioned. Sides will be chosen. Sacrifices will be made. In the end, the truth will prevail.

A romantic supsense about a secret society where you can expect the unexpected. The story is dark and twisted with religious themes, unsanctioned scientific experiments and depraved rituals. Eva’s life will be turned upside down, but in the end she’ll find love and a family.

This was my first dark academia book. I really enjoyed it even though i didn't know what to expect. Eva is the main heroine of our story. She wakes up with a loss of memory of the last few days and the police makes her get into a secret society, in order to replace Stella, the twin she didn't know she had. Weird things are happening, her twin is reported missing, nuns, monks, rituals with burials, they're all included in this story that has plenty of mystery, will make you question everything and everyone.

I really loved the fact that i couldn't guess anything and it wasn't predictable. i love the twists and turns of this story. Everyone was suspicious i didn't know if our heroine was crazy and hallucinating or if everything was real and there were dark secrets behind everything. The religious part of the book also made me realize on the names of our characters , i don't know if it happened on purpose, because they weren't acknowledged, but Adam and Eva?? Couldn't help but start thinking if it was going to be a part of the story as well.

I wish i had read the first book, since i feel like it could make some things more clear to me. If you like thrillers or just romantic suspense, you need to try this one. I'm sure the story will capture your attention and you'll enjoy it. Especially if you're like me and haven't tried this dark academia genre before.

What is this sorcery? Twisted Circles is one of my most anticipated reads of 2020, because it's the follow up standalone in a series of romantic suspense by Ms. Contreras. It's counterpart, Half Truths was my top read of 2019.

I was convinced I couldn't love Twisted Circles as much as I did Half Truths. Well, I was wrong. In a completely different way, Claire has managed to create a even more nuanced world at the fictional Ellis University and she will keep you in shock and awe throughout the majority of these hallowed pages.

What Half Truths was in dark, secretive whispers and mystery; Twisted Circles is full of thought provoking centuries deep madness and edge of your seat, jaw dropping twists and turns. I am not even slightly overstating when I say that I had moments of Twilight Zone mixed with X Files during the unfolding of this story and even after having reread it, I was STILL finding little secrets and things I had missed the first one or two times.

And that is the ultimate mark of a phenomenal suspense read to me. Don't skim one single second of this one, or you're liable to miss a major truth.

I am a Claire Contreras fan from day one. And I love me a romantic suspense journey and she delivered with this one. From the beginning you are thrown into a, WTF, who is that, what the hell, oh no he didn't, oh hell no she did what, moments...You are constantly second guessing the last thought you had. A hard turn here, a sharp turn back, and then a complete u-turn and you are standing back at the beginning wondering what is what. I really enjoyed that part. The connection part took me a good part of the book to really solidify. I wished I would have been more invested in the romance from the get go, I am enjoying this secret society life style and can't wait for more. xo

Secret societies.
A mental institution.
Religious ceremonies.
Combine them together and you have the perfect backdrop for this new romantic suspense story, which had my mind going into overdrive. The author held nothing back in this story, beginning on page one as one narrator sets the scene that will change everything.

Eva Guerra has not had an easy life. She's adopted and been in therapy for most of her life, due to her "anger issues". We are introduced to her during a time when she's suffered from memory loss from the past couple days and has now been detained by the police. What transpires at the station and what they asked her to do, impersonating someone else, made no sense. And immediately I trusted no one.

I was surprised she went along with the plan, but I think she was just desperate for answers. Answers about a sister she never knew she had. This leads her to be introduced to The Swords, one of the secret societies at her Ivy League college. And it is where she first meets Adam Astor. He's mysterious at first. BUT, remember how I said I trusted no one? I quickly revised that. Adam was the only one I trusted. He is the glue that keeps Eva from unraveling as secrets are revealed about her past. He provides her support when needed and doesn't turn on her when her true story is revealed. He's with her every step of the way, and that makes a huge difference. On top of that, he is very patient with Eva, realizing that intimacy needed to wait, and that patience pays off. Another BBF winner!

One thing I couldn't continue to lose myself in someone else's identity. Not when I'm on the verge of losing my own.

I thought the author did a great job weaving this story together. There are a lot of complex elements involving the secret society, the Institute and the church, and I loved how each piece of the puzzle fit into place. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, a new curveball was thrown in, and it all came together in a fiery conclusion.

I’m done with playing it safe.” I stood up, holding the folder to my chest. “I need truth.”
“Truth always comes with a price.”
“I’m ready to pay whatever it costs.”

If you are a fan of this genre, this is definitely one worth checking out!
