Single and proud of it! Oh, oops...

As a Certified Professional Organizer, everything in Paige Parker's world is as it should be. Perfect apartment, perfect office, perfect life. And now, the perfect vacation is planned to honor Singles Day. After all, what's better than celebrating her pride in being single? Because who needs a man anyway? They have zero taste in quality television, leave the toilet seat up, and sleep with your best friend. No thanks. Her life is fine just the way it is.

As the owner of a now-dormant bed & breakfast, Lucas Croft's life is simple and quiet. It's only him and his five-year-old daughter, which is just the way he likes it. Because who needs a woman anyway? They nag you to clean up your stuff, want the toilet seat put down, and expect the dishes to be done the same day the meal is cooked. No thanks. His life is fine just the way it is.

But when Paige books a room that Lucas' well-intentioned sister listed without his knowledge, their two worlds collide. If they can survive the week together, they just might discover exactly what they've both been missing.

Slow burn, sweet, heartfelt, feel good romance with the same sweet taste of cheerful, hopeful, chic lit Hallmark movies!

Two heartbroken people’s paths are crossed in a dilapidated inn. Paige Parker is career oriented, married with a job kind of Chicago girl, nursing her feelings after bad breakup from fiancée. And her assistant forces her to take a break to relax in a cozy inn. Paige gets impressed with ads and finally agrees to pay triple to get away from the city during Valentine’s Day.

But when she arrives to the inn she plans to spend her days, she realizes she is cheated by those glamorous photos. The place is real money trap, ramshackle house and the worst part is not spending her money to this sh*t hole! She also meets with the unhappy host who has no idea why she is there! Meet our rude hero Lucas who wants her get the hell out of there ASAP! His sister rented the inn he has closed without his knowledge. He has real financial problems, widow, taking care of his sweet daughter Maddie.

He is still grieving his wife. He is trapped in the small town and as soon as he meets with the charming city girl who annoys the hell of him, awakening so many new feelings he wants to restrain for years, his head gets more confused than before!

And thanks to weather conditions, they stuck in the place together.

This is quiet lovely sweet-soft-swoon-slow burn chic lit with tough, strong heroine you easily relate with.

But I cut some points because there is high sexual tension between the couple but we didn’t receive enough steamy scenes ( actually we get none which is quiet disappointment because when you compare this book with the author’s previous works we can see she can write delicious , too hot to handle love making scenes) and Lucas was unnecessarily douchebag from the beginning who earned several punch-kick-head tossing-pinching- the book boyfriend you called cannot he reached at this moment, please try again later points!

But thankfully his four years old girl was so sweet so I hit my hands who are about to write negative things about the story!

I’m giving three Outer Banks ( you gotta watch the Netflix series with same name !), Hallmarkish, romantic, sweetest stars!
It’s still easy to read, entertaining book! If you need a great holiday novel to lighten up your mood! It’s a great catch for you!

Special thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca ( I’m specifically thanking the publishers, because their sweet romcoms helped me a lot to get through pandemic mania that I highly appreciated! ) for sharing this reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

This is a romance that is way to cute and fun. I loved the characters in this book, and I loved getting to know all the characters including the dogs/puppies in this book. This book was a fun read and a great way to get lost in a book. I grow up in the outer banks of NC. I love books that is set in North Carolina, and this book did not let me down. I cannot say how much I really enjoy reading this book. If you are looking for a fun and cute romance then you should check this book out. The beginning is just the best, but the ending was everything. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Sourcebooks Casablanca) or author (Ann Marie Walker) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I needed an easy-breezy-light-romance book, to cleanse my reading palate (much needed after two back to back Fantasy books and two back to back WWII hist-fic books). 🤔 This served its purpose. 👍 Very predictable- but full of steamy dreamy angst😍… definitely not a brain squeezer but not bad either. 🤗

This book was….not it for me. It’s marketed as an opposite attraction and I see the opposite thing. I just couldn’t see the attraction because it was none-existent. Their relationship was very underdeveloped in my opinion and I found myself not really invested in whether they got together or not, which made the last chapter very unrealistic for me.

Everything about the characters was also very surface level, they didn’t feel real enough for me to sympathize with them or feel connected to them, we get told a lot of things but we never see any of it. For example we get told multiple times how Paige is this badass business woman and we see none of it??

Lucas on the other hand is the biggest asshole on the planet. I just wanted to punch him in the face every time he opened his mouth. Being stuck on his head was not a fun time either. In his defense he gets much better in the second half of the book but some things just didn’t change and simply couldn’t like him.

He calls Paige uptight A LOT, along with that she wants everything to go her way and i’m not saying these are bad qualities but all these are an first impression from when she first came to the place she rented and found it nothing like was advertised which is a nice way of saying a dump plus facing a rude as fuck host??? so i think anyone would be upset?? why is he acting like her being ”uptight” is the reason for her being upset the first few days and not the fact that he was being a piece of unprofessional shit?? Another time he thought she was uptight was when she wanted to take a shower before changing into new clean clothes and ???? someone fucking tell me how is that being uptight????

Him categorizing tidiness as a woman's thing annoyed the fuck out of me. Yes okay we get it you're a caveman who has a messy house and you leave the toilet seat up, it doesn't make you special buddy.

One time he was fixing a broken front step and he said he couldn’t paint it to match the others until summer and he thought about how much Paige would hate it because and I quote ”her matchy-matchy OCD”. This is not something I would've expected to read in a 2021 romance. I mean I thought we were past the thing where people would call tidiness OCD but guess not but anyway i'm not here for it.

The first half of the book also has some sexist remarks that annoyed me so much. So basically the best parts about the book were the puppies and Lucas’s daughter, Maddie.

thanks to netgalley for approving me for the arc

You want to know a real effed up side effect of 2020? I wanted this book because it featured a professional organizer. And even worse, I was severely disappointed there was more organizing discussed and instead it got glossed over. I mean, I was for realsies waiting for my 1980s movie montage moment . . . .

Because I am down to only one closet in my own house left to purge.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Happy Singles Day is the story of all work and no play Paige who sort of gets strong-armed into taking a vacation by her assistant. He sets it all up on a charming island that reminded me of . . . .

When she gets there she discovers the website might have been more than a little misleading and the owner is a real ass. You know what that means, right? Rather than celebrating . . . .

They will make the sex. In perfectly PG-13 fashion just the way momma usually likes it.

This one is all about taking the advice that this wise man once said . . . .

I would have given it 4 Stars, but Epilogues in general are stupid and one where the woman once again has a “whoopsie” baby because apparently everyone in the universe sucks at figuring out effective fucking birth control is making me knock it down an entire Star.

This featured two of my favourite things: a grumpy single dad and an inn setting. Woo! It was surprisingly more somber than I expected based on the cover, but I say that with zero complaints because it was incredibly sweet and balanced by lighthearted humour.

Convinced by her assistant to take a vacation, professional organizer Paige takes the opportunity to celebrate February 15th—Single Awareness Day—and books a week solo at the Copper Lantern Inn. As the lone guest at the unexpectedly grungy inn, she meets Lucas Croft, the arrogant owner.

Although inexcusably rude at times, I felt for Lucas. Living with the memory of what the inn represents, he is a man in pain. I really adored seeing his connection with Paige bloom through shared meals, animal rescue adventures, and a game of ten questions. Given their relationship takes place within a week, yes it develops quickly, but it somehow worked for me.

And the setting of Aurelia was wonderful—an island with zero vehicles! I'd love to revisit this world and its characters again.

arc kindly provided by Sourcebooks, via NetGalley

I wanted to love this book. The premise, the cover... I was expecting to like this. But this book was just not for me.

This book is an opposites attracts romance between the main characters Paige and Lucas. Paige is presented as a badass business woman. She has her own company, working as a personal organizer, and she's the typical sort of married-to-the-job, take-no-bullshit, big city woman. And she's also kind of nursing her broken heart after she broke it off with her now ex-fiancé. So, as her assistant more or less forces her to take a break from her job, she books a trip to this small remote island, to get away from the big city during Valentines Day.

Then there's Lucas. A widowed father who also happens to be the owner of the bed & breakfast Paige has decided to spend her vacation at. His sister was the one to rent out the place again, without telling him, so when Paige shows up, he's less than welcoming.

Paige is ready to turn right around and leave, but thanks to the weather, she has no choice but to stay. And as they are forced together, they need to work around some slightly confusing feelings.

Let's start with the characters shall we. I didn't particularly like any of our two main characters. Everything about them felt very surface level, and there was a lot of telling us how the characters were and what their personalities were like, rather than showing. As an example - the book multiple times talks about Paige and her work, and tells us how she's this great, badass business woman. But it's never shown. Some of the more serious discussions towards the end of the book, did make me feel for them more. It added some layers to them and made them a little less two-dimensional, but overall I was unable to connect to any of them or feel for them, and I just could not get invested in their story.

Now I love me a good opposites attract romance, but this was more just... opposites. Maybe it has to do with how I felt about the characters in general, but I genuinely saw NO chemistry between the two of them. There were only weird fantasies and way to many mentions of hard-ons, but no actual feelings discussed or chemistry shown and I just couldn't believe any of it. Insta-love is also an element in this book. Paige is only staying on the island for a short period of time, so of course, everything happens quickly. I'm generally not a fan of insta-love but I also don't hate it, but in this book it just really did not work and I really didn't like it. I wasn't invested in the romance, I didn't care about what happened between them... It just wasn't believable and felt very forced, I guess would be the best way to explain it.

Probably my two biggest problems with the book were the sexism, and the gender stereotypes that were just casually sprinkled in throughout it. They mostly stuck to the first half, but they were there all the way. As an example, at several points Lucas talks about how being tidy and wanting things clean is so typical for women. Because tidiness is 100% a quality ONLY reserved for women. There was also this whole tangent about how women always complain about the toilet seat being up? Now I'm no man, so I don't know how often this is on the average man's mind... But a whole like, 3 page tangent on how being told to lower the toilet seat is the worst thing ever? I don't know bro, that sounds like a you-problem.
He also complained a lot about how Paige was so uptight and rude, when in reality, she probably had every right to be a little bit taken aback and thus not the most friendly, when they first met. Considering the bed & breakfast looks pretty much nothing like advertised, and she was met by a less than welcoming host (aka Lucas.)
Paige was pretty much the same too. She also kept enforcing this "tidiness is a woman thing" agenda, which just ended up annoying me so much cause they just DIDN'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT. At one point she also points out how watching TV and playing video-games is so typical for men... Again, because there has never been girls who do that, it's 100% reserved ONLY for men.

No spoilers, but there's this conflict because Paige saw Lucas through a crack in the door one night while he was looking through photo albums, and when Lucas finds out, he get's really mad. Which... kinda didn't make any sense. If they'd just talked for like 2 seconds, the whole thing wouldn't have been a conflict at all. But miscommunication must always be present so... that happened. But anyways, he storms away - and then 10 seconds later, new chapter, instead of still being mad, he just goes right over to fantasizing about Paige giving him a blowjob? Like... where did that come from, weren't you mad like one page ago?

Which brings me to the extreme amount of sexual fantasies and comments. It's an adult romance, I was expecting some steam here and there, i have nothing against that. You know what I did not get? A single actual steamy scene! You know what I got instead? An uncomfortable amount of sexual remarks that could've easily been taken straight out of a 12 year old's mind. Exhibit A: at one point they decide to start over, like a fresh start, and they shake on it. And in Lucas' mind, we see him thinking that Paige has a firm handshake... And then his thought's go straight to how said hand would feel around him..? And there were just so many examples. THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I had to read about Lucas getting a semi or having to re-adjust his jeans just from watching Paige walk? And the amount of fantasies I had to read from Paige's perspective, about climbing that man like a freaking monkey? And then in the end we didn't even get a steamy scene. NOT ONE.

Last specific thing that really bugged me: towards the end of the book, Lucas is fixing the stairs, and he thinks to himself that he'll have to wait until the summer, to paint the steps. Because they're in mismatched colours. So then his mind goes to Paige and how her "matchy-matchy OCD" would not tolerate the steps being mismatched. Do we really need these kinda comments in 2021? I thought we as a society had moved past these kinds of comments? Like, seriously?

I'll give the book a big plus for the puppies. The puppies were cute.. Though I could've done without the excessive Ninja Turtles discussions. and I could also have done without knowing that talking about ninja turtles apparently was a turn-on for one of our main characters. But besides the puppies... this fell really flat for me. Some nice discussions and sweet moments thrown in here and there, but for the most part I was bored, didn't care for the characters, or their romance, and just wanted to be done with the story.
Sadly not the book for me.

Ann Marie Walker's Happy Singles Day is a feel-good rom-com about two people who say they’re fine being single. (Yeah, sure.)

Paige knows how to take control of chaos. As a certified professional organizer, she helps her clients get their clutter under control and find peace with the more-organized version of themselves.

Ironically, the only thing Paige doesn’t have control over is her love life. Well, she does have control, in that she isn’t interested in having one. She’s combatted loneliness with work, and now she’s rewarding herself with a vacation to celebrate Singles Day.

She’s not happy to find that the charming bed-and-breakfast she booked a room at isn’t quite what was advertised. At least the scenery is great to look at—particularly Lucas, the owner of the B&B, which hasn’t been operational for some time.

Lucas isn’t pleased that his meddling sister took Paige’s reservation and promised much more than he or the inn could deliver. He knows his sister is hoping this will be the push he needs to get the business going, and perhaps make a fresh start romantically, but he’s not interested in spending time with any women except his young daughter, Maddie.

Could two people with nothing in common except their desire not to be in a relationship connect with one another? Is their desire for solitude real, or is it a defense mechanism? Can the professional organizer bring order to the handsome yet surly innkeeper?

I’ll bet you know what will happen. Happy Singles Day really was an adorable rom-com, full of all my favorite plot devices—puppies, rainstorms, forced proximity, and meddling siblings and friends. It’s predictable but sweet, and deals with overcoming grief and taking second chances.

If you’re looking for something light and fun, here’s a cute one for you!

I really loved this! It was fun and funny and the chemistry between Paige and Lucas was very believable and fun to experience. I didn't want to put it down. I also liked that it dealt with some tough topics like grief. It was such a fun read.

The one thing that caused me to knock off a star is that throughout the entire book, there was such sexual tension, on both sides. Lots of talk of the tension, lots of thoughts that we get to see from both of them. Then, when it was time to finally do the deed.....it fades to black. SERIOUSLY??? All this build up and sexual thoughts and words and then when the sex actually happens, we get nothing? I was disappointed and it didn't make a ton of sense. Why give us all the foreplay and none of the action?

Huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a free copy to read and review!

Woman's Fiction : ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay so I had to push my way though there at the begining. I was just not identifying with our heroine AND our hero left much to be desired but I stuck it through and it turned out fine.

My biggest problem here was what my issue always is with a romantic type book that has a child in it; (why!? are they here) I get that kid is not only there to further the plot and make the hero seem more lovable and human but when the child isn't written like a real kid it just all but ruins the emersion for me.

So yeah. I didn't love this.

Get out! I have Goosebumps and I probably should send Ann Marie Walker an email full of emojis because she gave me such an incredible book that I love so much and devoured in hours. This book tells the story of a single girl Paige who works hard (don't we all) and has the perfect and funny assistant who books herself a single vacation because uhmm she is awesome and we all need that. She books herself into this inn that hasn't been functional for a while with a partly grumpy hottie. If one of your 2021 goals was to find love flipping pages then pick this one. The plot is amazing ,the story incredible and hilarious. Loved it! Huge thanks to the publisher for my ARC

I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars, but I think it’s closer to 4! I’ve been wanting to read this book since I saw the cover and read the blurb, so when I got the arc I started immediately.

This book has most of all the things I love in a romance book: The cutest kid ever, a second chance at love, two people finding love when they want to be as far as relationships as possible, puppies, and a storm that makes them both to stay indoors. So, yeah, I really loved Happy Singles Day. The romance was sweet and very well developed. And I loved Maddie! She’s become one of my favorite kids ever! Also, I loved how it all wrapped up in the end. It was fair and very beautiful, and totally appropriate taking into account the book’s message.

However, there’s a reason why I can’t give this 5 stars. At the beginning, and by that I mean more or less the first half of the book, there were waaaay too many sexist remarks. Even though the point was to make it clear how averse both main characters were to the opposite sex, it was too much and it made me kinda uncomfortable. I include Sammy in this part of the review. Most of his lines were kinda *eye roll* for me.

I don’t want that to make the book sound like it’s bad because it isn’t my point! The book is great and I totally recommend it to most of my friends/mutuals/romance readers because the romance, the kid, the puppies and the setting are totally worth the read!

What I liked:

—Maddie, the little girl (though even she was occasionally too precocious to be realistic)
—the puppies!
—Sophie, Lucas’s sister (she had some spunk and I loved her fire station turned bookstore)
—the small island town setting

What I didn’t like:

—poorly done hate to love trope (no banter or tension; they’re basically lusting after each other from the beginning)
—Lucas was an absolute jerk. He did get better as the story went on, but I didn’t care for him at all. He also didn’t seem to be written realistically
—(also, his name is Lucas Croft which I kept reading as Lara Croft)
—the sub plot about Lucas possibly losing custody of Maddie was introduced at the end of the book and resolved (off screen) very quickly and everything was sunshine and roses
—both characters’ interior monologues were cringeworthy and not enjoyable to read about
—the ending. GAG ME. The entire epilogue was ridiculous and over the top.

I really wanted to enjoy this one and I’ve heard some good things about it, but it just didn’t end up working for me.

Happy Singles Day
By Ann Marie Walker

Happy Singles Day by Ann Marie Walker is such a charming and adorable read I enjoyed so much. The story is totally romantic, lighthearted with two amazing characters with amazing chemistry and a swooners delight.

Set in beautiful Aurelia Island where these two main characters meet and fall in love. They both needed each other and I just love the way they meet and how their romance grows. Paige Parker is a workaholic and a certified professional organizer whose love life is left a mess by a cheating ex. Lucas Croft reeling from grief and struggling to move on with his 5 year old child with an unexpected loss. Unbeknownst to him, his sister lists his bed and breakfast bringing it back to life unexpectedly.

I love how endearing each of the characters are and despite the seriousness of their situation, the writing remained light hearted and sweet. I absolutely enjoyed the new beginnings these two MC needed to find healing and start anew. This story was definitely romantic and delightful and the perfect read to squeeze in for February. I absolutely loved this one.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with a copy. All opinions are my own.

Heartwarming, amusing, and delectably charming!

Happy Singles Day is a lighthearted, absorbing tale set on the idyllic Aurelia Island that takes you into the lives of Paige Parker, a workaholic who after having her heart shattered by a cheating ex has spent far too many hours working and not enough hours enjoying life, and Lucas Croft, an innkeeper and widowed father of a five-year-old who is still struggling with the unexpected loss of his wife and his all-consuming grief that is preventing him from moving on.

The writing style is light and witty. The characters, including all the supporting characters, are quirky, fun-loving, and endearing. And the plot is a heartfelt, uplifting mix of friendship, family, introspection, parenthood, sorrow, support, love, loss, drama, community, tricky situations, humorous mishaps, and new beginnings.

Overall, Happy Singles Day is a sweet, touching, delightfully romantic tale by Walker that I didn’t just like, I loved.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Das war echt süüüüüüüss!
Singe dad romance? Yes, please.

Thank you to Sourcebooks and Netgalley for a gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book doesn't come out for a while but it looks too cute not to start ASAP! It's a quick read filled with chemistry. Based on the build up, I thought it would be open door but it's not - it's not a bad thing but if you were looking for an open door steamy romance, this one is not for you. Instead, it's a fun opposites attract, forced proximity romance. It's about two characters getting over their painful pasts to find love again. I think my favorite character is Paige's assistant Samuel - he reminded me a lot of TJ from the Coffee Girl series by Sophie Sinclair.

This was my first book by Ann Marie Walker and I'm a fan! Definitely interested in reading more in the future.

Happy Singles Day was all kinds of cute. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this book turned into a movie just because of how cute the romance actually was. I also had no idea that this is an actual day that people can celebrate? Lol.

In it, you will meet Paige and Lucas. Both have their hearts broken and don't really know how to deal with it. Paige lives in Chicago and is basically married to her job. Which isn't a bad thing but the girl needed a break. A girlcation if you please. So she decides to go to an inn for Valentine's Day.

Well, whelp. The inn isn't exactly how she pictured because the place needs a lot of TLC. At this point, if you haven't already guessed it yet, Lucas walks into the picture and isn't thrilled with her intrusion. For many reasons too because the place isn't even open (anymore). Now this guy also needs a huge break because he real deep in financial problems while trying to take care of his daughter Maddie.

So, in other words, these two needed help and a break. A huge and nice relaxing break.

Unfortunately, these two are stuck together due to bad weather. Which is a good thing for me because I could smell the tension coming off of them a mile away. They were really cute when they bantered but I was just waiting for things to move to the next level for them all. Plus Maddie was adorable throughout the entire book too.

The one thing I wanted more of .. the romance. The smutty kind because I got the heat but no sizzle. I look forward to the romance when it comes to these rom com kind of books. So I was a little disappointed when I just got teasers.

This was absolutely adorable! I really enjoyed the humor and the constant banter between Lucas and Paige. I'm usually not a huge fan of kids in romances, but Maddie was such a ray of sunshine and really added to the story (and don't even get me started on the cuteness that was the puppies). The story and characters kept me engaged from the very beginning, and I love how Paige's quirkiness helped bring Lucas out of his shell, and how they both showed each other that it was okay to trust and love again.

The reason why I docked a star (which I know may seem shallow to some) is because after the tension build up and attraction between the two of them, we got a complete fade-to-black scene. I literally said, "Noooo!" out loud when I turned the page and saw that the book skipped from them kissing right to the next morning. Maybe this doesn't matter to some readers, but when I pick up a book that is labeled adult romance, I want some sexy times, and I want it to be on page. Otherwise, I have zero complaints about this book, and if my one critique doesn't bother you, then I highly suggest giving this a go when it comes out on January 19th!

Fade to black, sweet romance, with a happy ending... 3 stars!

This is more of a 3.75 but I felt that giving it 4 stars would have been too nice. This sweet romance is about Paige who was cheated on and dumped by her boyfriend with her boss which is how she lost her boyfriend, job, and bestfriend all in the same day. Then she decided to open her own business (which I personally think is a boss bitch move right there.

The story really kicks off when she decides to take a vacation at a bed in breakfast inn on an island owned by Lucas who struggles with the loss of his wife and handles being a badass single dad.

I will admit I was very disappointed that this was a fade to black. I waited up until 70% ish mark of the book for them to finally kiss and then I get a fade to black scene. If these two characters wasn't talking about their sex reunion from that night I would have not known. -_- NOT COOL. And then this book was in THIRD PERSON. It would have been wayyy better if it was first person.

OH! And let's not forget that they have the most cutest puppy rescue scene XD! Swoony! But all in all I would only recommend if you don't mind the VERY slow burn, fade to black, sweetest romance on the planet. This book just wasn't for me. :(

Such a cute, light hearted romance. I really enjoyed reading about the different characters and the relationships that formed. Super cute ending and definitely gave me laughs throughout! ☀️❤️ Not getting 5 stars because was a slow burn romance

Big pass on this one. I honestly question whether this book had an editor (e.g. calling an avocado a vegetable multiple times). The dialogue is rough, and the plot is crammed into the last 8%. Save yourself some time and work through another book on your to-read list.

Meh. No steam. Loving each other after 1 week. Getting married after 1 year. Yeah, could've been better. His healing process seemed really rushed, at least, in that 1 week they spent together.

After her relationship imploded, Paige immersed herself in her work-life for years, but with Valentine's Day around the corner, she was looking for an escape. As a way to celebrate Singles Day, she booked a room at B&B on the Outer Banks. The B&B wasn't quite what she expected, but ended up being exactly what she needed.

I love when a book surprises me! I expected a rom-com, which this was, but I never anticipated it would result in an avalanche of emotions. My heart was tugged, pushed, pulled, and filled with warmth and joy by this story. In my world, any story that can produce both happy and sad tears gets all the stars.

The beginning of the book was all laughs. The interactions between Paige and her assistant had me slapping my knees. I was terribly amused, and the laughs continued as Paige made her way to the B&B. Let's just say that Paige and Lucas, the owner of the B&B, didn't immediately hit it off. Paige was put off by the condition of the inn and its grumpy owner, while Lucas was frustrated by his surprise guest. After riding out a storm together, the two begin to see each other in a new light, sparks ignited, and that's when the feels started for me.

These two were both wounded by their past. Both brokenhearted, Paige due to a cheating ex, and Lucas by the loss of his wife. Their resistance to love was never an issue before, but now that they found each other, they needed to come to terms with their past and find the strength to take that second shot at love. I won't go through everything that transpired, but there were so many tender and beautiful moments shared. They really seemed to see each other and understand what the other needed, and my heartstrings were humming.

A cute kid, a well-meaning sister, and puppies added to the fun I had reading this book. I found myself laughing, crying, and swooning, and that ending!!!! *applause, applause* It was so wonderful and had me feeling all sorts of sappy happy.

Overall, this was a beautiful story of love, loss, and finding love again. It was packed with fun and feels, and left me wearing a perma-smile.

Paige Parker is a Certified Professional Organizer, making complete control of all aspects of life her job, literally. But there’s one thing she’s yet to get a handle on- organizing her own love life. Overworked and strung out, Paige decides to take a vacation for one to relax, recharge, and honor the little known holiday, Singles Day.

Only after arriving at her getaway destination she quickly realizes that she’s been duped. It’s too cold to sightsee and the place she is staying is not exactly a sight for sore eyes. Making matters worse is the Bed and Breakfast’s grumpy (yet hot, of course) host, Lucas Croft. Lucas and Paige butt heads instantly, but forced to rough it out together for a few days just might change all of that.

Instantly I was drawn to the premise of Happy Singles Day. There are a lot of books out there about women being happy without a man in their lives, but not many that tie it in to the day itself. However, the more I read, the more I realized this book really wasn’t about Singles Day at all. Sure, they swing back around to it eventually, but in the middle this is really a heartwarming story about acceptance, love, and second chances.

Readers might also take issue with the lack of heat in this story. I’ve never read anything by this author before, but it’s my understanding she’s known for writing books with a good amount of steam, so I’d be curious to know what made her venture to a more chaste love story than one would expect.

Given the misleading title, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sweet love stories and finding love where you least expect it.
