What's the first thing you do after you wake up one morning and find yourself trapped inside what you believe is your favorite video game?

If you said try and find a way back home, you'd be completely wrong. Especially if you're anything like my friends and I. Instead, you use your game knowledge to finish a few easy quests, get yourself some money for room and board, and then hope a way back home just conveniently falls into your lap.

That is of course, until you decide to take on a quest that turns out to be just a little bit out of your league. How little bit you ask? Little bit enough that you end up releasing an ancient goblin queen named Vanika, who's only goal is to take over the world with her army of goblins.

Yeah, looking back on it, it really wasn't one of our better decisions. But hey, it could be worse right? I mean, I can't think of anything right this second, but I'm pretty sure there's something out there that's way worse than this.

But anyway, now we gotta take our extremely worn out equipment, and barely passable fighting skills, and use them to defeat an entire goblin army, including their magical, super powered queen, before they decide to take over the world. No pressure right? I mean, how hard can it really be?

I guess there's only one way to find out.

This is the first book of James’s Ragtag Adventures in the Questworld Series. James and his friends go to bed one night and wake up in a video game called the Questworld; that’s their most favourite game. It’s not just entertaining but it’s adventurous and super enjoyable. I was hooked from start to finish. There are five protagonists; James, Bentley, EJ, Ryry and Brie. My favourite character among the five is Brie; she’s shy, adorable yet strong. The author takes you along James and his friends’ journey in the Questworld. It consists of a lot of action, fighting and humour. I was able to imagine all the scenes while reading the book. In this book, James and his friends defeat the Goblin Queen and save the city from her evil rule. They fight as a team against her and in the end make more allies. Aranel; who’s just like them, helps them and gives them the guild stones that assist them to communicate with each other. All the characters are very well established and the author has briefly introduced all of them so it’s easy to remember them and their attributes. The writing style of the author is intelligible and all the scenes are thoroughly described. An amusing and fabulously developed piece of work.

James’s Ragtag Adventures in Questworld is a middle grade, fantasy series perfect for those who love adventure and thrill. The Return of Goblin Queen is the first part ofof this series which kept me hooked till the end.

Filled with action, this book tells the story of James and his friends who enter a game called Questworld while they were asleep. Now admist the game, they have to complete various quests. I loved how this book was so fast-paced and I didn’t get bored even for a moment. The characters were also very cool and I was really impressed by their bravely. Bentley charging and killing the Goblin King was also a very interesting part. James and his friends also ally with Elf King and train to fight alongside and seeing them practicing their powers was really intriguing, especially Brie’s spells. The writing is also quite simple and is a fun read.

I thought I would check this author's work out after seeing him brag about being able to make a living off his books, though I and others found it odd that he refused to post the titles of his books so we could read them for ourselves especially considering he claimed his books were award-winning. I will address all of this at the end of the review.

The books themselves are ok? I guess for children's books. These are clearly written by someone turning their and their friend's DnD sessions into fan books. That is not always a bad thing, the Forgotten realms series were great for doing this. However, this is not the case. This is a bad DnD campaign dumbed down for children and it's unclear if the fact that these are written for children was intentional or because the author's abilities are so limited. Will your kids like these? Yes, if they are into that kind of setting. But the story is average and trope-heavy, and the writing is second or third-tier. Imagine comparing the terrible Percy Jackson movies to the Harry Potter ones(the movies not the books) this is someone jumping onto a trend and hoping they will get lucky.

It's clear why this is a self-published book and not a real book. It is very apparent why the publishers pasted this up.

Now, the issues that brought this to my attention. I saw this author in one of the many FB enraged over how people were rightfully pointing out the problems with self-publishing and how so many failed self-published authors tried to pretend otherwise and exaggerate their claims...by exaggerating his own.
He falsely claimed to be a successful self-published author and able to make a living off his books, just like a real author. This was quickly found to be false when several of us looked up the online analytics for his books and found that in the 2 years since publishing,(another red flag that he self-published six books, even short children's books, in a short time) all of his books combined sold less than confirmed 100 copies.

The other false claim is that his books are award winners...they are not. This book supposedly won the Royal Dragonfly award in 2021. It did not. The Royal Dragonfly award is one of those Pay-to-Play "awards" with no actual clout or reputation but designed to get new aspiring authors to pay a fee to take part in their contest. In the actual contest, this book came in dead last. Out of 14 entries, it was number 14. M. Doyle photoshopped the award logo onto his books on his website to look more successful.

Another mediocre work is from a failed self published author who has to lie about it to make himself feel better. What is it about self publishing that attracts talentless narcissists?

James’ Ragtag Adventure in Questworld follows a group of five pals who find themselves stuck in a magical realm. They awaken the Goblin Queen and her army of goblins during an adventure gone wrong! Now they’ll need to find backup to battle her wicked majesty. Along the journey, they’ll come across fascinating and mystical creatures. Some good, some bad… Are they going to be able to defeat the queen? What is the origin of this mysterious land, and how did they get there? This adventure will have you on the edge of your seat. Follow James and his group of friends as they navigate the exciting world of Questland!

This adventurous book will have readers hooked from the very first sentence. One of the highlights of this story is the solid character development. This novel has a prototypical group of friends. M. Doyle has included the sassy one, the strong one, the brainy one, the shy one, and the leader. These familiar character types and themes will appeal to middle-grade readers as they can relate to the characters’ personalities and feel comfortable with the storyline.

M. Doyle has done an excellent job with pacing in this novel. There are pauses throughout, and it gives readers the feeling that they are sitting alongside the gang, resting and getting to know them better. The moments of rest come as a welcome break from the captivating and suspenseful action that the characters encounter in Questland. It seems like they discover new creatures and monsters at every corner and are constantly in danger.

James’s Ragtag Adventures in Questworld: Return of the Goblin Queen is a thrilling fantasy adventure novel for middle-grade children. This exciting novel takes place in a video game and is a great way to introduce reluctant readers to the fantasy genre and help them become avid readers.

What will you do if you wake up one day and find yourself stuck in your favorite game? This story is an adventure of 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 and his four friends 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲, 𝐑𝐲𝐫𝐲, 𝐄.𝐉, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞 who are in a search of a way out from the game and find new friends and monsters in between. They all have special powers that their characters have in their game, they just want to find how to trigger them.

The story starts with the 5 kids running from 𝐆𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐬. It was a new and fun read for me, the adventure plus the explanation of the sarcastic thoughts makes the story both interesting and relatable. Fast-paced also makes it possible to read in one go. You can imagine yourself in the scenes with the thoughts of every character you are reading makes the story more engaging.

I liked the character of James the narrator of the story because he is explaining his own thoughts + thoughts of his friends. Bently was also funny and show off which makes his character unique.

The author did a great job with the characters and story and one more thing which is good is that the author did not drag the story.

This is the first book of the series (4 books) This book is called The Return of Goblin Queen. And oh my god! While I was reading this book I could imagine myself in the Questworld. There’s so much action in this book.

Five children wake up one day and find themselves in the Questworld. After that they find themselves completing tasks and running from Goblins. The five children are the reason why Goblin Queen returned in the first place, but also the reason for her defeat. In between their journey of releasing the queen and defeating the Queen, they meet new people/creatures, go to different and new places they’ve never seen before and go through a lot of difficulties. All the characters are strong and so interesting. I loved everything about this book and really excited for the upcoming parts. I highly highly recommend it to everyone!!

𝕾𝖚𝖒𝖒𝖆𝖗𝖞:

🗡 It's an intriguing story of 5 kids, James, Bentley, Ryry, Brie, and EJ that get trapped into their favorite video game "QuestWorld" and their struggle to get back home. James is the main protagonist of this story. In trying to find the way back home, they accidentally release the notorious Goblin Queen, Vanika, and a series of multiple quests starts so that they can get money for upgrading their weapons so they can fight her. They have to stop Vanika and her army who threaten to take over the world. During all this quest, trying to survive and way back home, they figured out how to use their skills.

🗡 Ok! so this is an extraordinary book and something new to me. This is a fast-past book that hooked me fully. The best part is when all of these five kids come to know that they have specialties and they start using their skills. I like the character of Ryry because of her dramatic and Sarcastic nature, lol I Love her 😅. Brie's character is quite an interesting one as being shy, I still feel that she is the strongest one. I like the way how James learned his sword skills. It's a rollicking adventurous book with great fighting scenes. The sarcastic and humorist scenes add a different flavor to this book. The author wrote this book in a way that you may end up being imaginative and will find yourself stuck in questworld with these kids. This book entrances me and I love it. Overall, this is an entertaining book.
