The inventive young hero from the bestselling I Need a New Butt! is back and this time he has accidentally glued a serving tray to his behind — and he's tickled pink! See, it's great for sliding down hills, surfing big waves, and other booty-full fun and games. Now all his friends want one too! Another cracked farce from the cheeky team of Dawn McMillan and Ross Kinnaird.
This is apparently the second book about this cheeky (sorry) kid. I haven't read the first one, but this seems to stand well enough on its own.
In somewhat clunky rhyme, the narrator tells us his tale of woe. He's fallen and broken his butt. I mean, it's shattered in pieces. When he takes off his pants, those pieces go tumbling onto the floor. So what does he do? He glues them back together. Unfortunately, when he goes to glue his butt back on, the tray he was using as a work surface becomes adhered to him as well. But he soon finds a way to make the best of things, even eventually deciding that having a tray glued to your butt has more benefits than drawbacks.
I have to admit, I cracked (sorry) a few smiles while reading this. It's not fancy literature, and the narrative gets kind of weak toward the end. But young kids will probably gobble this up and be glued to their seats during storytime. It's fun for a few laughs.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dover Publications for providing a digital ARC.
A smart and sassy little rhyming book geared exactly to the sensibilities of a 6 year old; a story of ingenious and independent problem solving which turns a disaster into a triumph... That's the message the kids will get. It's a confidence builder with a happy ending. The simple rhymes enable a sing-song telling; the book lends itself to a fabulous preschool storytime. Highly recommend.
My kid haaaaaated this! 😂. The look he had on his face when we finished it was one of pure disgust. He wouldn’t even say anything afterwards 🤣. He can’t stand any remote potty humor 😂 My three year old thought it was fine. Not something I want to read again but worth it one time for that hilarious reaction.
Are you ALL blind and senseless? This book was clearly about child molestation. If you thought this story was silly or that it didn't make any sense... try reading it again but this time thinking about the fact that trays are code for anal sex and jackets are code for condoms. YEAH. Get the message now? When that kid is standing in the hallway afraid and his parents are standing there holding implements of torture and looking evil, the message is "DON'T TELL MOMMY AND DADDY WHAT I'M DOING TO YOU OR THEY'LL PUNISH YOU." When that boy goes "out to dinner" you never see who he's with because that person is supposed to be invisible to the parent-- because that person is the child's abuser. When the narrator says "The Dress Code? Don't worry, 'I'll crack it.'" the joke there is that he doesn't need a jacket (i.e. condom) because he's going to stick it in the crack. Then the abuser convinces the kid he doesn't need a "jacket" and the kid throws off his "jacket" with a wicked grin. How do ya'll have eyes in your head and not see any of this? Not just Dawn McMillan, but also Disney in general, are charging you money to read sexual grooming tools to your children. Ya'll straight up crazy. But dollars to donuts, anybody reading this probably thinks I'M the crazy one. So go ahead. Enjoy reading this sexual grooming tool to your child.
What a charming, cheeky, funny story. I giggled childishly, I'm sure older elementary age kids will love this book. I shall have to find and read the first book!
'I Broke My Butt!: A Cheeky Sequel to the International Bestseller I Need a New Butt!' by Dawn McMillan with illustrations by Ross Kinnaird is a sequel about a young boy who seems to have a lot of problems with his backside.
The young man who was looking for a new butt is back, but this time, he has managed to break his butt. His attempts to glue things back together leads to an extra part being stuck to his backside. This presents problems, but also leads to interesting solutions.
I liked the first book well enough, and wondered why there might be a sequel. It's clever enough and borderline naughty with all the butt humor to make kids giggle. I liked the first one a bit better, but your mileage may vary.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Dover Publications and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
The young hero from the previous Butt Books returns in I Broke My Butt! He imagines his backend has shattered into several pieces and as he is gluing himself back together, he discovers the tray he’s used to assemble the pieces is now part of his butt too! What’s this young boy to do? Well, after bemoaning his error, he realizes having a tray butt is actually a plus and can be very useful. When he uses his tray butt to slide down snowy hills, his friends are jealous and want trays glued to their butts too. With fun drawings and goofy rhymes, author Dawn McMillan and illustrator Ross Kinnaird show kids that with a little bit of creativity, negatives can be turned into opportunities for fun. Good read for kids and silly adults.
This book was well written, comical, and the illustrations were well done. This book is perfect for younger elementary-aged students who struggle with self-confidence and issues with their individuality/image. The little boy broke his butt, and glued it together and wondered to himself that nobody will understand or like him due to his image. But that was not the case, everyone was jealous because he could sled! When the plate fell off of his butt, he was sad because he was "normal" like every other kid today. Personally, if the right message about originality is taught and preceived through this book, the message could touch a lot of students.
Such a fun story where the adult gets to say the word "butt" and the children get to laugh! This is a fun story about a child who "breaks" their butt, glues it back together and then glues it back on but with a twist! It is how the child deals with this new "butt" that makes the story so much fun to read. I highly recommend this to grandparents, parents, friends, and teachers of any small child!
My daughter loved the first book, “I Need A New Butt,” so much that I had to get this one. It’s a silly story and we loved reading it together. My daughter loves this series so much that she asked me to read it on my podcast, A Story For Us. The pictures are fun and the story made us giggle. Fancy jackets and trays definitely don’t go together!
The “I Broke My Butt” book is just as good as the first one! It’s silly, goofy, and would be really fun for young readers to read independently. I also really like how this one explores vocabulary a bit more with longer adjectives for young kids to begin to recognize and sound out.
This book is a hilariously cute one to read with the kids and even family! It'll create lots of laughs and giggles and brighten everyone's day! I like this one the best! If you need a good giggle or like to see the smiles and hear the laugh from your kiddos I would definitely check this out!
OMG. This book is LAUGH OUT LOUD funny. I couldn’t stop laughing. A great book if you have a kiddo who loves to laugh at silly things. I plan to get the other books in the series.
