Another graphic novel in this fun series spin-off of The Baby-sitters Club, featuring Kristy's little stepsister! Karen is having a terrible day. Her favorite jeans are missing, there's no prize in the Crunch-O cereal box, and Boo-Boo the cat won't play with her. She even gets punished and sent to her room!
Karen tries everything to make her day better, but nothing is going right and her bad luck just won't go away. Will this be the worst day ever?
Oh boy. A whole book of Karen being bratty and whiny as she catalogues her gripes about the day. I was too worn down by the pessimism to care when things started to turn around for her.
I think I've just realized that the BSLS adaptations aren't doing it for me the way the BSC ones are. Karen is so bratty it's not appealing to read at all. I don't even know if I want to encourage my kids to read these because of her behavior. I haven't read the source material in so long I couldn't say whether this is from the source or not. But in a time when I would like to think we have evolved to not wanting to teach our kids to talk to their siblings and friends with such disdain, I don't think I will be continuing to pick up this series.
Text-to-Self Connection Karen is having a very bad day! She believes this day cannot get any worse. I feel her pain, I have had plenty of days that I think will never end or never get better. Karen does not have a good attitude in this book and I feel that if she would have changed her view on everything bad that kept happening it will help her remain calm and accept this might not be her best day. I can relate but on bad days I just stop what I'm doing and reflect on my attitude and remain calm. Karen is younger but it is important to have children reflect on their self and not overreact when they don't always get their way. Her step-mother gave her the idea of pretend to wake up and begin on a new day; on the same day. This is a positive thing to do on a bad day!
I read these with my 6 and 4 year old and although we love the series, I think this one was a bit of downer. So many bad things happened to Karen, it went on forever.
Karen started her day off really bad and it just got worse from there. She learns from there that things can get better if you look at things differently and keep a positive attitude. Another cute story!
I read these as a kid and LOVED Karen. As a little sister to a strong-willed and smart older sister like Kristy, I found Karen so relatable. The graphic novel version was so fun to read and M I still found the story delightful.
This is a good book. I like when she had a bad day but it started getting better and they were joking that she had a bad day things world record because she had 14 bad things that day but it started getting better. She was also was being mean to people bc she had a bad day and she wasn’t feeling. She apologized to all the people she was either yelling at or being mean to and that’s one of my favorite parts that she was apologized to the people she yelled at or was being mean to.
i ussually dont go for like kids books like these but wow. this book really did cover like when I was little and had a bad day and I just felt to related to Karens bad day like she totally wasn’t on the wrong because I would have cried like trust me lol. but yea I like this one the most because it’s just super quick and I loved that like I read it in 26 minutes. loved it and would defenetly continue the series
Horrible horrible horrible. I bought this book for my goddaughter last year. I am never again buying a book for a child that I haven’t read. I had read other books in the Little Sister graphic novel series, and they were fine. It never occurred to me that this book would be different.
The child is a whiny spoiled entitled brat. She’s repeatedly mean and cruel to others when things don’t work out exactly the way she wants - silly things like her brother got the stickers in the cereal box (he did offer to give her half of the stickers). The adults just sympathize and don’t say anything about her bullying. I was aghast at the way this child verbally bullied and mistreated others.
I’d ground her. No tv or games or devices for a week. In the book, they REWARD HER and take her somewhere special to eat to change her day to a better one.
She does apologize to the kids & adults at the end… but she justifies her behavior by saying she was having a bad day… and she only apologizes because she’s having a good day now.
How is having a rude cruel selfish spoiled entitled bully who melts down over unimportant things, a good choice for a role model? What parent wants their child to be like this?
Can Katy Farina just adapt every Little Sister book into graphic novels? They're so good, I'm even willing to overlook the glaring error she made when she mislabeled the Little House pets. Rocky is supposed to be the cat, and Midgie is supposed to be the dog. DUH. </s>
this bitch was so annoying victim complex at only 6 years old reading this bc the kid im babysitting went to bed and i dont have a book rn MOST IMPORTANTLY: i need background on karen’s family daddy has 3 other kids that are all older than you? and mommy and daddy are divorced!? and daddy is with the baby momma of the other 3 kids?? or is elizabeth the mom of the 3 kids and then it’s a brady bunch situation where they dont have any kids togethed!??? SEEEEEE… I MUST GET ANSWERS
I liked this book well enough as a kid that I wrote at least two knockoffs of it, but I think having a high standard for the reread led me to nothing but disappointment. Sure, over a dozen bad things happen to her, and she's six, but most of them are like a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. Left your new pants at the wrong house, eh? The dog and cat don't want to hang out? And the checkers thing reminded me of those pictures of toddlers having nuclear meltdowns because their parents wouldn't let them eat sand. The only really crummy things were that Andrew gets random packages from his godparents because he won the godparent lottery on top of winning the cereal prize. Dunno what kind of godparents Karen had, but obviously they weren't sending her DVDs in the mail or anything.
I liked the text one better because the nuance and inner dialog makes Karen less selfish and bratty. It’s ugly when she’s mad about her brother being happy. But the trip out with her big brothers is great.
We all have bad days but Karen sounded over the top. Maybe it’s the GN format? I know it’s possible to nail those awful-bad-day feelings in a book. (The Ramona books do it quite well)
Me and my daughter really enjoyed this book. It was good for my daughter as she could really relate to Karen as she had a similar experience earlier in the week and it helped her talk about it.
I love this book series this book is defiantly one of the best in the series! Those they’re are some things I don’t agree with this book is just so good that I can’t really argue with it.
This book is not bad, but it's not as good as the first book in this series. The main character (Karen) comes off as somewhat of a brat in this one. The whole thing felt a bit too cheesy for my liking.
