Jiang Zhen crossed into ancient times and became the old bachelor eldest Jiang who was neglected by the whole family in the village of Jiang Xihu in Hexi Village.
He was born into a good family and Jiang Laoda is busy in the year but can’t eat a full meal. Two younger brothers can marry a wife, but he is starved to death… Jiang Zhen feels unbearable.
Don’t want to feed me? OK, I kill the chicken myself.
Don’t you give me a glimpse of food? It doesn’t matter, the door of the granary will be opened as soon as it goes down.
Want to tell me that I am not filial? Ok, I immediately took the knife into the county to slash people, and let the county grandfather grab all of us.
Jiang Zhen took the attire of the family’s best products and became a tyrant in the village. He also saw the “ugly” ger who could not get married in the village.
Future father-in-law: “Jiang Zhen is always wandering around our house. Isn’t it necessary to grab our house?”
The future mother-in-law: “What to do, Jin Geer must not beat him!”
Zhao Jinge’s face is hot… Dad, the wild rabbit that I got back today is what he gave…
It is a quite entertaining story with an adorable couple, although since I took a long time to finish I no longer remembered all the details of the beginning, this was a good story, different from what I read from time to time. Super easy to MTL too! One detail that I loved was Spoiler!
[the one at the end of Jiang Zheng 'original', that the author took the time to give him a 'future', a family that still loves him with his deep-rooted personality from his previous abusive circumstances (which made my heart ache so much) and that he could move one was super cute and heartwarming.]
Jiang Zhen is a modern-day member of the special forces, who died while on duty, then his soul transmigrated into an alternate version of ancient East Asia. The body he occupied belonged to a farmer (of nearly the same name) who had been working as a slave for his abusive family. After the neighbor, Zhao Jinge, rescued him from certain death, the village realized that Jiang Zhen had turned into a mad man. The meek and often bullied farmer suddenly knew martial arts, beat up his abusive parents and siblings, demanded to be removed from the family registry, started a whole new life, and (without everyone knowing that the things he knew came from the future) began to make money. All this while romantically pursuing his rescuer, whom the entire village thought was quite ugly because he didn't look feminine.
At first, I was enjoying this novel merely for its light-weight storytelling. The author is very straightforward with her events, and doesn't use flowery words. Even important deaths were non-dramatic. It read to me like a history book that spans 70 years, which was curiously one of the reasons I liked it. Despite the simplistic writing, its character development, especially of shy and insecure Zhao Jinge, was *chef's kiss*. When I was about to finish the novel, I realized that this entire manuscript was a social commentary on toxic Asian family relationships and abuse of the concept of "filial piety" (so many of their neighbors were problematic, and only Zhao Jinge seems to have a healthy relationship with his parents). It's also a social commentary on toxic cultural traditions. This being a web novel, one might notice so many of the commenters will say that they can relate, so it's evident that the author wasn't just inventing illogical family drama. These things are deeply embedded in many Asian societies. The ending cemented my thoughts, and wow, that was just so satisfying. I wonder if the author isn't implying that she'd actually like to live in Taiwan or something. 😅
Might not be the best story, but reading until the end, I can feel so much satisfaction in my heart. I finished this with a huge smile on my face. The novel was more focused on the slice of life aspect and I was actually not expecting it, but it's a pleasant surprise. I also adore the MC and the ML's relationship. A definition of true love.
Something weird happened with this novel. At first, it was good and it had everything I was looking for: an easy and slow-paced slice of life, a little of farming, starting a business, raising a wife, slow-burn romance, having children, satisfying face-slapping, etc. Things were going great! Until the story took an unexpected turn 🤡.
Without giving too much of a spoiler it could be described as conquering and building a new kingdom out of nowhere 🤣. The author did explain why, and it made sense and was very consistent with MC's personality. That doesn't change the fact that I didn't expect they were going to lose everything and had to start from scratch.
I could accept the change, and building a new kingdom sounded amazing, but, it was really necessary to do it while destroying an entire civilization? Some comments said it was xenophobic because you can see which country is based on even if it has another name in the book. I believe that the author had no intention to spread hate and it was just convenient for MC to build his kingdom there. The conquering was described as 'gentle', they never did anything to local people, but they did impose their language and costumes and that's not okay!
Leaving that behind, the other big problem with the book was a rap* incident with a cannon fodder character. It was a very promising character, but the author decided it was going to be cannon fodder for reasons I don't want to understand. Okay, so he became jealous and did bad things, but that doesn't justify why he had to suffer like that. It was unnecessary in my humble opinion. (The scene is not on page, it was implied later on)
Fortunately, the book compensated all that with the amazing main couple. MC might be a sociopath with too much pride and violence is always his answer, but he is the definition of Husband Material. He's a wife-slave and the best father of all danmei. Everything he does is for his family. The respect and trust he has for his partner is humbling. The way he changed everyone's belief about gender equality and the role that men should have in the family was mind-blowing.
On that note, I loved the messages the author left about women's freedom and rights. It was more complicated here with the addition of 'gers' as a third genre but the idea behind was the same. So many characters that got out of the stereotypes with great stories and happy endings too!
I gave this book a 3 instead of a 5 because I actually wanted to give it a 3.9 because although I like it a bit, they’re a fews things I really had trouble digesting. I’m glad the author let Zhao Jinge develop but personally I feel uncomfortable with self effacing characters and that was one thing that bother me with the buildup for ZJ. And it was clear to me that although it was well wrapped under the guise of caring Jian Zhen was in fact controlling and shaping Jinge to suit his aesthetic, I guess this author did it in a more humane and not too controversial way. But because of my real life experience I felt quite uncomfortable because it kept jumping at me as controlling and it ZJ was younger I would have even totally claimed it to be grooming. The other things that bother me was the blatant xenophobia and forced assimilation. Although the author dressed it up as improving the world and whatnot, all those chapter made me uncomfortable because it read like a colonizer trying to justify their stance. Once again this is a personal opinion based on real life experience trauma so much of this just jump at me and read that way. I respect the fact that many readers didn’t truly read that deeply into the all situation and just fluffily enjoyed that novel. Because at the end of the day it was a really cute and mostly sane ABO as we know how toxic most ABO are. So I will say that future readers should be aware that some parts of this story may rub you the wrong way.

If i had stopped reading at chapter 160, this would be 4.5 stars. Poor to rich, love at first sight, wholesome, beating annoying people up, humor like it has everything, super entertaining read. But then it keeps going.
At first, after I read 160, i was like 'oh its not done? well i guess that's okay, they want more slice of life moments'. wrong. It's like someone completely different is writing the book for the last 20 chapters, or like the author got drunk or was held a gun point. The xenophobia and pro-colonization and propaganda in the last few chapters is insane. Every other sentence is mentioning how he doesn't like Japanese people but will tolerate them if they learn his language and dress and act like him. HELLO??????HUUHH??? He moves to their country with some thousands of people and takes it over, saying their language is ugly and teaches them all his language instead. He completely modernizes this country. A line in the book is literally "the best, most ruthless way to invade a country was to destroy it's civilisation".... AM I SUPPOSED TO BE ON YOUR SIDE AFTER YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?????
And the cherry on top is that he calls this country "the Republic of China". Yep. Somehow my gay transmigation poor to rich slice of life love story was actually a propaganda book...
it's another story with MC transmigrated into an ancient time. with poor life and abusive family. then MC start to the journey to improve his life while face slapping his scum family and enemy. what's make this story different from other similar transmigration story is MC take a different route from other MC. in other book MC usually sold modern food with modern technologi to pave his way to make his own kingdom. but our MC is different, he has a military background and only know how to use his brute force. so he develop his own escort agency, recruit and train his own man. beside that, he also become a sea merchant to accumulate his whealth. ML in this story also is not your typical ML. in other book always discribe ger as a beautiful, virtuous and gentle man, almost soft like woman. our ML is a handsome and manly ger. from young age he dug out his cinnabar mole and do a rough job like an ordinary man. so even tough MC only love ML, ML always feels insecure about his physique. he always think that he's ugly and not worthy of MC. i love how the author discribe relationship between ML and MC, ML and MC parents, ML and his childs, it's warms your heart.
Not too bad, but A Guide to Raising your Natural Enemy was better (way more fluffier and wholesome)
While MC (gong) was sweet to ML, it didn't feel as fluffy as MC is a rough and down-to-earth guy (a bit like a straight man tbh) but as compared to other side character gongs, he is definitely the sweetest and most faithful.
An interesting plot/ aspect of the novel is that while it is set in the ancient/ olden times, MC and ML are neither of a powerful or rich origin. Their backgrounds were slowly built up from scratch. With that said, you can't deny that MC luck is way off the charts - the protagonist's luck.
Overall, it's a pretty good / interesting read and I do have to say that one of the side characters is annoyingly funny but luckily, he does not appear too much to spoil the tastes of the reader.
Lots of face slapping and wealth building, lots of supposed fluff and hinting of smut/ car scenes (but no details).

This is a warm hearted BL romance wrapped up with kingdom building. The multiple transmigrations felt a little excessive. But, they ended well to complete the plot lines. The overused transmigrations were off putting. But, the back stabbing love triangles were left out. The confidence of the main couple was consistent throughout the novel and this was the best part of the story. The abusive childhood of the main character left me in tears. It was well written and revealed in small doses throughout the novel. Worth reading one time.
