All his life, Loshka has been trained to be one thing, a pleasure slave. Led by a higher calling, he was taught the path to eternal glory was paved with obedience. His will is not important, not when compared to the will of his future master.
But his faith is tested when Loshka is given to a brutal alien master who enjoys Loshka’s screams of pain more than his pleasure. As Loshka resigns himself to a short life with the cruel monster, he is kidnapped by a group of warriors.
Malik and his warrior family are searching the forsaken lands for a missing boy when they find Loshka. Malik never expected his mate would be an alien man who is as soft as he is vulnerable. He doesn’t have the hard scales or sharp claws that Malik and his kind use to survive daily in the harsh desert landscape.
Loshka is not just afraid, but completely unaware of what it means to belong to another, not as an object, but as a mate. It takes every ounce of Malik’s patience to convince Loshka that he deserves more than the life handed to him.
But just as Loshka learns that with love, a future and a family are not impossible, his past returns to drag him back into a life of forced servitude. The fated mates have already been through so much, can they survive one more threat to their bond?
Malik is the first book in The Kif Warriors, an alien mpreg series. This is the first co-write between Crista and Kiki. They’ve joined forces to bring you all the humor, magic, steam and action that you enjoy!
I mean wild like, multiple testicles, different flavours of come 🥴 and tentacles on the D.
They out here passing back and forth a baby like a basketball and I can’t even. A+ for the creative minds behind this cuz I was not expecting any of this.
I’m a big Kiki Burrelli when it comes to fluffy and sexy so I knew I gotta read this when I heard she has a new alien romance coming out. 😁 And for most part, my expectations were met. Despite Loshka being trained only for pleasure his whole life and is a pleasure slave, this book is more fluffy and sweet rather than sexy. There’s really only a few sexy scenes although they are hot. 😉
The first chapter of the book is really gruesome and horrible so might wanna skip this if you aren’t ok with gore and abuse. But the rest is rather fluffy. I also liked the Mpreg aspect of this story. It was fascinating and fresh. I loved it. The romance between Malik and Loshka is sweet and realistic and quite a slow burn. And I loved the epilogue. I’m quite looking forward to the next book in the series. 😌
3.5 Now I have a name, family and love stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I skimmed the first chapter and it still made me queasy 🤢. TW beware..but it was still a sweet story.
Originally read October 2019
After the first chapter, which had me a little sick, this turned out to be a sweet mate story. I'd definitely be interested in more.
*Note because I think people should be warned: The first chapter is a little brutal with some abuse of a mc and though not very descriptive, there is rape of a brief character and one of the mc's is made to watch.
strange concept, good writing, great world building
i've been on a wild ride the past week or so exploring the alien subgenre of mm erotica. why? i don't really know. but this was a good book so i guess i'm happy for it.
the most captivating part of this book was actually the world-building that went into it. the authors didn't just write some freaky-deaky alien erotica, they took the time to build and establish a completely separate world. we get enough hints to realize that there's a lot going on in this world, but not so much that it's overwhelming or that it overpowers the romance/erotica parts of the book, which i suppose is intended to be the focus.
it's clear that a lot of thought and development has gone into writing about these races. for example, reading some of the descriptions about the screamers, the nasty and vile villains of the story we meet at the very beginning. this book had my skin crawling and i was completely grossed out. Seriously, these authors should consider writing body horror because they'd be great at it.
a bit of a warning for those who don't read dark books or don't have experience reading horror or body horror, the first chapter or so might be a bit much to handle. there is some abuse described in excruciating detail, along with rape and murder. it's not particularly for the feint of heart.
i'm honestly shocked by the level of world building in this book. i want to read more.
This was like reading the cliffsnotes of a story than the actual story. It was rushed and a bit shallow so it was hard to get to know/care for any of the characters.
It was also a very weird story, so 2 stars for originality? Potential? I don't know. I felt this could have been good if actually written properly and if the MC'S had personality.
No. As much as I like to read monster/alien romance, this wasn't it.
This was actually terrible in terms of presenting the fact of sexual slavery, because when dealing with such a topic, it has to be a little more precise, the MC and his background should be more delved into, but I don't think we got that in this book.
Loshka is bred to be a sex slave, absolutely no information is given about where he comes from, how did this happen and what was his life like before he was given to his present patron, only that he has manicured nails and has been taught a bit of space kamasutra.
Who is Loshka anyway? What species? What does he look like??
When he's given to a monster screamer tribe, specifically to their leader Kssh, he's there to suffer and we're not even at 10% of the book when the raping (of another being) begins.
When Loschka is rescued by Malik, a leader of the lizard-like natives of the planet he's on, the mate bond is created between them and this is where my problems with this book begin.
🔵 Loshka has been rescued from a very degrading, traumatising situation, yet when he needs to be physically healed, Malik claims the only way to do that is to have sex with so far untouched-so a virgin-Loschka, but no matter that he's traumatised, sex with Malik is healing, so he'll get over it.
I get it, it's a harsh world, but come on.
🟢 There's no development to Loschka's journey from being completely religiously brainwashed to getting past all that, there's only sex and life with his new tribe, which is supposed to be healing enough? Yeah I don't think it works that way, so no deepening of his internal struggles and no addressing his mental health.
Couldn't Malik wait for Loshka to be fully consenting and of his right mind?
🟣 The mpreg situation is a little bit different than what I've read so far, sex with the hot lizard guy changes your DNA and you can carry his baby, but also he can carry it, or you can swap it back and forth, which okay, fine, not really appealing, but fine.
The whole plot is somewhat absurd and it revolves solely around the Screamers wanting their goods back - Loshka - so no actual problems or complications, no serious foundation for the continuation of the series, I have no interest in the other guys' stories, there's going to be the healing sex and nothing else, apparently.
If you're looking for a unique m-preg sci-fi romance, you should give this one a try. First off, there are no humans here, at all. We meet poor Loshka who is a brainwashed sex slave that is given to a psychopathic alien as a gift. We see some horrible things, but thankfully Loshka is rescued by Malik before anything crazy happens to him. Malik is surprised to find out that Loshka is his mate...but he can't argue with faith. If only he can convince his mate to believe him. Really loved this unique world and cool twist on m-preg.
I’ll be honest, I’ve wanted to read this series, because...well, it’s Kiki. But I was a little hesitant about the alien angle, because I read one on my own not too long ago that left me really creeped out and pretty much horrified. Yeah, no. So, even though I adore Kiki’s work, I was a bit leery, but I’m glad I read it anyway or I would have missed out. This is the start of another good series by her and Crista and I loved it. Loshka, didn’t really have a name at the moment. He was considered a no name, a ninesa, a pleasure slave, who’s opinion or voice didn’t matter. All he was there for was to please the master he was going to. But when he was traded to an evil alien, he learned his patron wasn’t as nice as he thought and that he was probably going to die real soon. Especially when he got back to his new master’s tent and saw what waited for him. It was horrid. And Loshka was terrified. But soon horrifying turned into something else as the being that was supposed to be his master was run off by others and the being called Malik was claiming to be his mate. He was so confused he didn’t know what to do. He never had a choice before, a voice in the matter. But the evil master wasn’t done with Loshka and he was determined to take him back. One way or another. And it was up to Malik to protect what was his or lose the best thing that ever happened to him. The one thing I love about this book, is the sense of family and unity in Malik’s village and in his kif. It’s spectacular. But I hated what Loshka had to go through. The Screamer was evil incarnate and I was never more happy to see what happens. And yep, you have to read to find out. What I also loved, was that even with all Loshka was enduring, he still had kind words for those that needed it and was a caring person. He wanted to please and make people happy. Not because he had to, but because he wanted to or he felt it needed to be done. Like it was the right thing to do. And the patience of everyone with him as he learned what he needed to learn since being on his own and being considered his own person, it was overwhelming to him but everyone was just so patient and kind. The true sense of family all around. And when it mattered most, they backed him up. Fought for him, knowing it may cost them, they still fought for him and showed him he belonged. He was special, he was cherished. I’m loving this series. I love the camaraderie between everyone in the village, but between the warrior kif the most. They had a bond that just seems to grow every day. It’s a great start to this series and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I really thought I was going to like this one but nope. The world building what little there was there was interesting but it wasn't fully fleshed out. The screamers were disgusting cannibalizing while raping just hit my gross meter. It was so unexpected that it just shocked me. Outside of that my biggest gripe about this story is it skims over all the details. Loshka was brainwashed by birth to believe it was a sacred duty to be a sex slave and follow his master's wishes yet he throws those beliefs off easy and don't get to witness much of his dealing with tossing out those belief. A couple sentences that says he struggles with and the author thinks that is good enough. We don't get to see Loshka's transition into his new life much and we don't even get to see Loshka and Malik interact as a new couple learning about each other. Time skips are way too frequent in this book. Villains are dispatched far too easily but most of all I just don't get the feeling I know the main couple. They feel like cardboard cutout of characters. Loshka is sweet and gentle and Malik is over protective and strong. But they are stereotypes with no filling inside of them.
The plot started strong, with the mc's before they met, then their meeting. Oddly, it didn't continue with their learning about each other or Loshka completely reorganizing his life long trained belief system. All that was fairly skipped over and I lost track of what and why I was reading. A whole new goal/ purpose was introduced but I never got into it. The transition was just too rough. The pregnancy part, baby transfer, and birth were not pleasant to read about.
I picked this up after finishing a couple of cozy, historical romance murder mysteries so my brain was not in an alien romance place and this book was wild as a result.
You do have your classic alien biology (3! balls, and each produces a different flavour...substance - all of which are capable of rearranging the DNA of the aliens partner so they can have a baby), "healing coupling", and one of the most interesting (kind of disturbing) birth scenes I have read - they call the babies hatchlings and there are no eggs involved, only a "pregnancy seam"...
It was a pretty fast burn, mated mates situation with a big protective love interest and I actually really liked Malik. The author did gloss over/not expand on Loshka moving past his horrific upbringing and conditioning and I would have liked to see that a little more but it was a short book.
TW for sexual slavery, on-page SA and murder of another character, graphic violence
This one turned out to be whole lot fluffier than I was expecting given the way it started, but it still had some good action/drama to balance out the romance. I do wish that either the authors took a little more time to flesh out Loshka adapting to his changing circumstance and re-thinking his entire world-view, or gave the readers more than just a reference to one instance of him not quite obeying his training/master. His dedication to his beliefs in the beginning were totally believable, but quickly got shuffled to the side and I would have liked to see him struggle with that more.
Loved the mpreg aspect, honest. It reminded me, just a bit, of Alien Nation with the transference of the embryo/fetus and I still fondly recall being completely enamored of that plot device way back when it was first introduced on the show (so progressive)!
Honestly despite how gruesome the first chapter or two is, this ended up being pretty fluffy. I was disappointed in the conflict - there were a few minor skirmish scenes and that was it. The characters adapted to their mating pretty easily, no drama there... It was a decent read, but I felt like the world wasn't as intriguing as the individual characters, so I doubt I will head on into the series.
I loved this book. I was intrigued and engrossed from the first page. Malik was kind, protective, patient, and loving. He was perfect for Loshka. The book was very well written with a great pace, and the couple's chemistry was just like the lava from the volcano. I can't wait for Book 2; I hope that Loshka's patron gets what he deserves eventually.
Rating: 4 stars I thought a really good start to the series. The book started really dark, but that part was over quickly and most of the book was not quite as gruesome. Loved both of the MCs. I thought the Mpreg was interesting. Overall, a really good start to a new series and I am looking forward to the next one.
This wasn't the book for me, I did read it all and the ending was sweet. The start of the book didn't sit well for me. So, I give it a few tries and finally finished it.
It's an M/M With one MC strong and the other MC weak. There are some interesting things in the book. IF you like SFR M/M Romance give the book a try. Warning the start is a shocker.
One of the best books I’ve read this year! The world building was amazing and I am sooo looking forward to reading the rest of the Kifs books!!! Loshka and Malik made me smile a lot! Read the blurb, then read the book! Happy reading!!!
I've read mpreg that were good and then others that were cringe-worthy this is one of the good ones because the World building and species building was really well thought-out it made sense in the world and even with the antagonist was valid. Great new series!
I typically like Kiki’s books, so I just grabbed this series up randomly. Though many of her series are on the short side, I find them to be good pallet cleansers or beach reads. She has a great imagination and storytelling ability. The execution isn’t always 100%, but still entertaining and enjoyable. She has a gift of packing a lot of emotion, action, and love into a small package.
This first book in the series started out much darker than I was prepared for. It didn’t last long, but the entire premise of how Loshka grew up was very disturbing.
The world-building is really good and interesting. It’s unique in many ways as well, which I like because I read a lot of PNR, and it can get boring when everything is the same.
Malik is a great character. He’s fierce, but also patient, tender, and loving. I did want to see him and Loshka be intimate more on page (and not just for healing purposes), because their first time together was before Loshka really understood what was going on and how he’d been brainwashed, groomed, abused, and traumatized. It would have been nice to see them have a full scene of passion between them.
I also wanted to see the Screamer get his comeuppance on page, because of all the villains I’ve read of, what he did was top 10 worst, and I needed some better closure. Maybe, hopefully, we get to see it in book 2 since this series has an overarching plot 🤞🏼.
The supporting characters are great, and I look forward to seeing all the kifmates find their HEA.
I did skip the first chapter since some reviews said it's rough to read 🙈
The writing isn't as descriptive as I usually prefer it to be so I didn't feel that the emotions were coming across properly. I didn't feel the connection between the MCs and I didn't feel any stress or anxiety in the situations that called for it BUT I still very much enjoyed the overall story and the cast of characters.
I'm excited to be in this universe and looking forward to some of the other books ( not all because of personal preferences but still excited for more of these stories!)
☆Fated mates ☆Slave x Warrior ☆Different species ☆Brainwashed religious themes ☆Mpreg / Mbirth ( via stomach pouch) ☆Sex used to heal wounds ♡ No real relationship angst aside from when the MCs first meet and Loshka is trying to do what he was raised to and doesn't understand what having a mate meant. ♡ No mentions of Malik's past partners, Loshka was trained to be a pleasure slave but no real details given, brief mention about how 'good' he is by his old Patron ( baddie who sold him)
I'm off to the 3rd book. 👀

This just didn’t go how I expected. Know who Loshka is and where her came from, this is not the story I thought it would be. Obviously I knew he would be sold as he is a slave. Now who he was sold to threw me for a loop but not too far off so I’m thinking to myself that no way is this book gonna get that dark. But oh it tried to. Now it’s his conditioning that I have a problem with. It fell away with ease, which doesn’t make sense because that was his entire life. That doesn’t go away a quick or as easy. I just couldn’t make that make much sense. But luckily he found the sweetness that is Malik. Even though that meeting was just ugh horrible. The flash and then boom, you’re my mate, let’s go home. I could not roll my eyes hard enough at that craziness. Overall it was a decent read that was entertaining all the way through. I liked the involvement of the other characters and the dynamics of their family unit. Gives me a little taste of what personality to expect moving forward with this series.
I see some positives to this series there was really interesting hints of world building and factions, and the lava lizardy race of people were well thought out and even down to having 3 hearts and testicles. My biggest gripe and why I might give this series one more book before giving up was it was too short and therefore character building was extremely shallow. I didn't feel like I could properly grow attached to the characters or the outcome because everything was speeding by so fast and Loshka who would of course be traumatized and still overcoming his brain washing seems to be fine after only one chapter? ... The first chapter of this was also EXTREMELY dark for a quick second including Which felt like it was setting up a certain tone that did not carry through the rest of the book so it just feels very random now that Ive completed the story. Like they created a villain and were like "how can we make him the most evil of all evils in 10 seconds flat"
This is the first alien book I’ve ever read. It was fascinating. I loved the story of two alien species brought together. And even though reptilians creep me out usually.A reptilian Malik and just All of Asraf enamoured me. I could visualise them and see them only as beautiful people who had beautiful caring hearts. I pictured Lashka to look more human than anything else. It was a really beautiful story. It made me so happy that Lashka was saved from a life of torture and abuse. I love that Lashka finally learned to think of himself and care for himself first. To allow himself to love and be loved and to be taken care of. To allow himself to be happy and receive and enjoy pleasure. What happened to Strika horrified me and broke my heart. I love his Mother’s strength. What a beautiful character you both created with Elisiya. This was such a gorgeous story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 5 big fat stars from me.

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant reading the first chapter as there was a really dark scene but I decided to keep on reading and see how the main leads met before deciding and I'm glad I did...
I loved their interactions, though I wish the author had shown us more instead of telling how they got closer, I felt there were some steps that were missing...
Another thing I liked was the kif and how they lived, the whole Asraf community was interesting and I enjoyed learning of their traditions.
I've read quite a few mpreg books and some alien female pregnancies that had differences with human ones but this one was really interesting and new, I liked how the couple could each carry the baby for a while if it was needed.
I loved seeing the change in Loshka and how he found himself, and Malik was so understanding and patient even though there were many things he didn't understand.
Overall I liked the story and the romance though I would have liked for the book to be a bit longer and see more of the development of their relationship and Loshka's growth.
POV: dual Tropes: interstellar era, alien world, fated mates, mpreg, found family. Spice: medium low (short detailed scenes, alien peen) CW: rape scene to a secondary character, violence, blood, death.
I liked the main characters and their journey, but felt the story moved too fast. In some areas I thought I’d missed a chapter or section and had to go back to make sure.
The novel gained *stars* for these items:
* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

1/2 * gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."
1/2 * gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"
The novel failed to gain stars for this item:
NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything s/he writes."
I haven't read a lot of alien romance, so this was mostly new to me. I liked the culture clashing and working that out, particularly as the primary setting was so foreign. There were parts where the plot moved too fast, skipping over sections that might have had more fleshing out in a longer novel, but overall I didn't mind the speed. There was just enough detail to feel immersed in the world without it being too much for the length, which I appreciated. The romance was pretty insta-love, but I thought it worked in this scenario. They were very sappy with one another, but apparently I'm in a phase where I'm enjoying low angst, because it hit just right.
Probably more like 3.5 stars rounded up, but had a good time with it and probably would reread it if the mood struck.
