Fairfield #1

Maybe It's You

Rate this book
When a nomadic wanderer and a stalwart bookseller cross paths and sparks fly, will their burgeoning attraction be enough to bridge the differences between them?

Ellen isn’t used to staying in one place for long. Sam, on the other hand, has built a home, a business and a community in his comfortable small town. When fate (with a little help from a summer rainstorm and a car that’s seen better days) brings the two together, the connection between them is undeniable. But can Ellen settle her restless spirit long enough to find something meaningful? And can Sam break free of past hurts and embrace his future?

Maybe.

Maybe, for Ellen and Sam, it’s going to be romance. Maybe it’s happy-ever-after. Maybe it’s love.

Maybe It’s You.

Maybe It’s You is the first book of the Fairfield Novellas series, a four-part romance set in the sleepy, sweet (sometimes sexy!) town of Fairfield, Indiana.

Sweet, small town romance. Nothing spectacular, but I read it in an hour so that’s neat.

Delightful Small-Town Contemporary Romance

Our heroine’s car literally breaks down in the middle of the street in rainy Nowhere, Indiana. She’s on her way to Ohio to visit a friend and figure out her next move. She’s an artist and has always lived a nomadic life. Lucky for her, a hunky bookstore owner is working late, and he helps her out. Romantic sparks fly right away between these two.

To the author’s credit, she does not devolve the storyline into crude, “panty-melting” phrases, as far too many contemporary romances do. Rather, she describes what each finds attractive in the other physically and otherwise in relatable non-crude ways. I soooo appreciate that. Even as things heat up between the couple, the author doesn’t stoop to crass language but still gets the point across about what each character sees, hears, and feels. I love that. I liked both the hero and heroine in this story. She is a somewhat flighty free spirit (though it takes some soul searching to figure that out). He’s the perfect beta hero: strong, compassionate, loyal… and always 2nd best in his mother’s eyes compared to his artist/writer/musician brother. You can’t help but feel for this sweet guy who has internalized his mother’s browbeating; he sees himself as less or not enough. When the heroine makes her big decision near the end of the book, you just about want to smack her! Can’t she see what she’s giving up? I also liked the relationship between the hero and his brother’s ex-wife. I love strong, supportive relationships between men and women portrayed in books that aren’t sexual in nature. My only complaint about this lovely book is that I thought it ended too quickly. I would have loved to have seen an extended “victory lap.”

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Maybe It’s You is the first book in the Fairfield Novellas series. Ellen has always been a free spirited wanderer, but when her car breaks down in Fairfield, Indiana, she meets Sam. Sam is full of dependable bones and roots, but will he be able to tame Ellen’s heart?

Oh my goodness, what a perfect feel good romance! Ellen and Sam captivated me with their easy connection, quick love, and realizing what’s most important in life. While at first glance they seem like total opposites, I love the ways they’re similar and were willing to take a chance on one another! Ellen was able to crack open Sam’s heart and help him live life again, while Sam helped Ellen see her true self and why she might be running more than connecting. It seems like there’s a solid cast of supporting characters in this book, and there’s a good amount of tension in this story that reaches beyond the relationship between Ellen and Sam. I think it could have easily been expanded, but I enjoyed that this book focused on Ellen and Sam’s relationship! It was a great story and I look forward to reading more from this author and in this series!

🏠🌄🏡Fairfield, Indiana: pit stop or destination?

💕 Short but lovely romance that suited me to a T. The writing is focused and really good, the hero 📚bookstore owner is a peach, and thanks to a tired 🚗Honda, the peripatetic, artistic 🎨heroine has a chance to take a good look at herself and where her life, rather than her car, is going! There's just enough family input to get a useful picture of the people who influenced how they both ended up in quaint, fictional Fairfield. The romance has mild heat but is not explicit: fine by me. The only thing it's missing is a furry friend😊.

😍Based on my thorough enjoyment of this novella, Lydia Reeves is an author whose work I would happily read again.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the story; this is my voluntary and honest review and the views expressed are solely my own.

This was a cute, romantic, quick read and I enjoyed these characters. Ellen was a nice, independent, lonely (even if she didn’t realize it) lady that thought all she needed was to go place to place, meeting new people and seeing new things...until she accidentally landed in Fairfield. Sam is a nice, handsome, soft spoken man that feels he is inferior to his brother and has parents that treat him exactly this way. He helps Ellen and welcomes her a soft, warm bed for the night (in the quest room) which then turns into more nights. They start to get to know each other and and enjoy their time together. They end up falling back into some bad habits, there is a rough patch, some revelations, and then a sweet, moving, happy ever after.

Ellen has been moving around her entire life and during her trip to another location her car breaks down in Indiana where she meets Sam who owns a bookstore. She stays with him while her car is being fixed and falls for him, but she is not sure she wants to stay in one place or take the chance on a relationship since her other one failed. He falls for her too, but doesn't feel like he is not good enough. Sweet romance of finding the right one to build a relationship and overcoming fears. I received an ARC and I voluntarily reviewed the book.

A delightful novella about a young woman, Ellen, who is traveling to spend some time with a friend she has known from college but gets stuck in a small town when her car breaks down. Asking for help, Ellen meets Sam, a bookstore owner who gladly helps her. It's love at first sight for these two but both have hangups with relationships. There's a satisfying ending. This was an easy read short, sweet and entertaining. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Heart warming novel

Ellen who is a freelancing illustrator, who traveled all her life, had tried a relationship but got heart broken. Sam who owned his building and opened his own bookstore and hardly traveled. Both met on a rainy day when Ellen's car broke down in Fairfield Indiana. Little did she know they would fall for each other. But would the be enough for Ellen to finally settle down. Truly enjoyed this book and recommend it😉💕✌

There's so much more I would like to learn about them. I received a free book through bookfunnel. My review is freely and honestly given

As they grow closer, Sam’s hoping that Ellen will stay. Grab your copy and find out what happens in this small town read. I’m looking forward to reading Geoff’s book, after it’s published.

A cute if somewhat short debut novel that's well-written with likable characters and a love story that felt refreshing.

Great characters

The characters are well drawn and multi-faceted. The plot moves with plenty of turns. For a small-town romance this covers a lot of territory, emotionally if not geographically. "Heartwarming" can seem too sweet. This is not too sweet, but it left me with a warm, happy feeling.

Home symbolizes different things for everybody. The main character learns that, for her, home is a person. Having moved several times during my childhood (not as much as the protagonist ☺), I learned this lesson early on, home is where family and friends are.

It's You

Song titled stories always grab me. This one not only grabbed me but kept me glued until the very end. Even at the end, I wanted more. A must read that encompasses all of the dynamics of a great story. Screenplay? Please read, be so glad you did.

This is a fast read at 106 pages and it did a nice job of pulling me in. I liked the characters. I'd rate it higher if the ending didn't feel a little rushed. The end conflict was presented and resolved too quickly for me.

A sweet love story about a woman who won't put down roots and the man who changes her mind. Mild sexual situations but no foul language. Good storyline with strong characters and a happy for now ending.

Thought it was written a bit stiffly. Not a big fan of Ellen, but I am of Geoff! Somehow Reeves made Geoff way more interesting than Ellen and the sneak peek of his story at the end of the novella makes me like him even more. Defintely reading the next instalment!

I love the author’s voice. However, because the book was a novella, there was not enough time to see Ellen and Sam’s romance develop. Instead, a lot was spent on their personal stories.

Good story. She has never had a permanent home and he has lived in the same small town his entire life. But, we know opposites attract.
