LIAM: Twenty-seven years have passed and I've been given a second chance. I met Shawn Carter in my freshman year of college.
As roommates and teammates on the varsity basketball team, we quickly became inseparable.
But an incident happened in college tore us apart, and we haven't spoken in over two decades.
After many years, Shawn has unexpectedly come back into my life, and we're no longer naive teenagers. My ex-wife divorced me, and I'm now a single father to my six-month-old son. Shawn has achieved his dream to become a superstar athlete.
Now that Shawn's back in my life, I'm faced with an important decision:
Don't take back someone who's left me broken once already; or take a leap of faith and see what could've been.
SHAWN: We were best friends twenty-seven years ago...but what are we now? I knew Liam Porter had a beautiful soul the moment I met him in college. But it took me all these years to realize just how much he means to me.
Now that I've become the top basketball player in the league, getting to know Liam intimately is near impossible. Cameras follow me around everywhere--my private life is nonexistent.
I've dated women my entire life...and no one--no one knows about the special connection I shared with Liam in college.
With the eyes of the whole world on me, everything is on the line. Do I risk it all for a second chance with Liam?

this is such a fun series.. good characters.. interesting storyline and fun to read.. i laugh and tear up with them.. i smile and sigh.. it is all around awesome and a very well written
Coming to terms with your own sexuality can be very daunting, and that is discounting what your family will think about it. That is why some people would rather not come out, deny themselves the freedom of being their true selves, too afraid of the fallout. But will they be happy in the end or will their lives be missing something really significant.
The two books in this series so far deals with coming out late and all the thoughts that accompany such a big decision.
Shawn and Liam, with Damon, were college roommates. They did things together all the time. But they have been apart for more than twenty years and now all of a sudden, they are communicating and starting doing things together.
Although there were some confusing moments for me during the jump between backstories and present ones, the gist of the whole tale is that your heart decides who to love. We might try to avoid or deny certain aspects of our personality but in the end, we suffer the brunt of that decision. But it is never too late, right? Love is love after all!
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
I don't always continue with a series of books because I get aggravated when I have to wait several months for the next book to come out. The nice thing about this series is that each book has a Happy ending to the main story and can stand alone on their own. I really enjoyed C.K. Blake's first book "Damon", and while it left me feeling satisfied with it's ending, it also left me with a feeling I would miss the two main characters and their children, and wondering what would happen with his friend Liam who seemed in my mind to be lonely and kind of sad. So I was glad to see the next book pick up Liam's story with Shawn, a shared college dorm mate, now a famous pro-athlete, trying to reconnect with Liam and Damon. So why does Shawn want to reconnect after over 20 years and why doesn't Liam? You'll have to read or listen to the book to find out. I like how the author has the experiences of Shawn and Liam take them back to their memories of their college years so we can see how Damon, Liam and Shawn became friends and to find how what changed their friendship.
After book one I was really looking forward to this book then so disappointed. To go from best friends to enemies and not talk for over 2 decades and then fall in love. Yeah, Liam deserved a better story. And their friendship back then deserved a better story. It just sucked.
The second book in the Single Dads Club features Liam the best friend and business partner of DAMON, the MC of the first book. While I enjoyed the first book, this book was quite different in how it was set up. Instead of just describing in a few pages what happened in the past, the author actually went back to the distant past, and showed what happened between the characters.
One thing that was similar to the First series book was my impression that the babies were props for another story line. Brought in for moments of cuteness, to show that three of the characters were single fathers, and make one of the MCs realize how much he was missing by not being a father. But most of the book was not focused on fatherhood. It was on the building relationship of the MCs, it's break down, and the rebuilding of lost trust.
It was disappointing in one way. I wished there was more focus on the father's taking care of their children and the kids' developing personalities, but that was not the premise of this book. There were some important topics touched on. Homophobia within professional sports, the importance of a supportive family, and the journey from college roommates to best friends. What would you give up to achieve your lifelong dream? When is someone deserving of a second chance?
There was a very interesting secondary character the brother of one of the MCs who I hope gets a book. His being a doctor and having two dogs are just too wonderful things about him. But in the meantime you have this sensual, sweet, second chance sequel to enjoy.
2 stars and I'm being nice. First of all I don't like the copy/paste feeling of a story. If you want to do a series please be more creative. Secondly adding a book to a series that's called 'Single Dads club' You kind of expect the setting to be around the club, only once did we visit the club in the book.
Liam and Shawn had sex once upon of time at a young age, they had a fall out and I guess you could say they went back into the closet. I don't need to put a label on what they have/had but I think they are both gay in denial again the story is the same as Damon and Jess (book one) I'm not gay - yah right. I'm sorry but it get a bit boring. The jumping back and forth should help you understand why things went the way they did, I really just annoyed me. Maybe that's not the authors fault, maybe I just disliked the story.
Take one pro basketball player and a successful businessman with a beautiful kid, the story is set out to. be great. But at the end I was like.. Not so much. I missed the 'Single dads Club' and would have loved it to play much bigger part in the story.
Both main characters are great - they had a fall out twenty years ago and when they meet all is forgiven, of cause it is, you would do that, wouldn't you? If you ask me: Hell no. I would take a lot of time to earn my trust again.
The storyline could have been great. Maybe change the circumstances a bit, try at least to let the main characters to acknowledge they are gay and maybe had a fling with a woman and she got pregnant. Ok, I'll just shut up now.
Liam is the second book in the Single Dads Club series by Canice Blake. This series follows the adventures in love of a group of single dads who are members of a support group. They are fun, sweet and can get steamy in certain scenes. This time we get to know more of Liam, the best friend from book one, and Shawn.
Shawn and Liam (and Damon from book one) were room mates in college, but after a big argument back then, they haven't kept touch. While Liam and Damon are single Dads (Damon finding his love in book one), Shawn has found stardom playing professional basketball. Reuniting, Liam and Shawn find their friendship and connection is just as true and strong as it was back then. But there are obstacles to defeat before a HEA can be had.
I like how this story is told. We go between present day and flashback to 20 plus years previously. For this book, it felt natural and helped me understand how the past of these characters affected their present. They have been straight all these years, but their chemistry is hot. And reading about their first connection and now their reunion is brilliant. I love them together - funny, sweet, sexy and fun. This story was fantastic and I cant wait for more in the series.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
Holy crap! I absolutely am in love with Candice Blake's Liam. From the beginning, I became completely engrossed in this second chance romance.
This beautiful story begins with Liam and Damon going to see Shawn at his NBA game. Soon we learn that twenty seven years ago, Liam, Damon, and Shawn were college roommates. Fast forward to the present, and Liam's a single dad, while Shawn's a star in the NBA. What no one knows though is that Shawn's alone and unhappy.
Through flashbacks, we learn about their past and the way their relationship developed. They were always very touchy-feely and flirty, which is adorable to read. They're sweet and funny together, with some great first time moments.
Their college relationship and their developing romance is amazing, while the present distance between them is saddening. But it's all a worthwhile journey.
I love this story, but I continue to have problems with some of the writing. I hate the occasional moments of repeated "he said", "he said." This is a personal pet peeve of mine, as I prefer when authors use other expressions, internal thoughts, and descriptions to create a seamless dialogue.
Liam is a riveting read between two middle aged men. I love the storyline, love the men and their issues throughout. If you are in the mood for a second chance romance, be sure to check out this Candice Blake read.
Sweet, emotive and endearing. A cute bi/GFY second chance story.
A sweet single dad romance with a focus on the man rather than the fact he is a father. This is a second chance romance with former best friends reuniting after 27 years estranged. Liam is a new father and very successful CEO of a company with his best friend Damon (from book 1). They reunite with their other dorm mate and collage best friend Shawn, who left college when he was drafted with the LA Lakers 27 years ago. They meet again when they are both invited to one of Shawn’s game. Liam and Shawn are able to reconnect and realize their spark from collage never went out. They have great chemistry and passion for each other and realize that even after 27 years they still care deeply for each other and want more.
This is a very sweet, low-angst romance, with two best friends that realized they are better together!
After reading this second book in the series, I finished it with a really nice feeling. The book is amazing! The combination of present days’ chapters and twenty-seven years ago’s chapters is brilliant, making you to immerse in the plot deeply. If you add amazing characters, an outstanding work narrating their past and present versions of what happened describing so expertly their feelings and emotions, and a low angst resolution of conflicts, the book is perfect to enjoy a wonderful afternoon just reading while sitting in your favorite couch. Liam and Shawn guided you to their HEA in a smooth way. Loved it! I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Oh I loved this book! Great follow up to the first book in the series as I was really hoping Liam would find a sexy guy. And he did !! :) I loved the way the book showed the past and what happened there. Shawn was a super sexy guy that I adored and pull all the right heart strings. Very well put together and great story.
After Damon my bff convinced me to go to a basketball game with him I just couldn't believe the memories of my friendship with Shawn in college brought back, we hadn't talked for twenty years and I still disliked him or do I. Now that I'm divorced with my young son, maybe it's time for Shawn and I to try and find our friendship and possibly our love again.
This was such a fantastic, grab-you-by-the-feels, poignant, wonderful, slow burning, amazing, engaging, delightful, beautiful, pull-on-your-heartstrings, and totally awesome story. It had me hooked from beginning to end, and I can't wait to see what (or who) happens next.
I love this series of books! It’s the perfect combination of low angst and love scenes. It is a very slow build up to romance though, this could of been quicker. But it is still a very good book. Would definitely recommend.
Liam and Shawn's story is a great second chance. I did like the flashbacks to see how their relationship was before. It makes me understand what happen and to see how it affects their relationship now. I can't wait to see what happens next in this series.
