It's been a while since I had to go back and reread half the book in a new light now that I know all the twists! I loved this quick horror novel about a girl who manipulates 150 people into killing themselves and the boy who loved her. This was such a quick read I'm a big fan of Japanese light novels bc of this. This is also inspired by a real event that occurred called Blue Whale Challenge.
Now I want to help explain the last sentence ending twist so you too don't have to flip back and forth to remember the ending reveal. So ending spoiler warning but written in code! Let's just say the certain someone who was yeeted this was the first thing they yoinked and she got it back and held onto it. Also implying that she may have manipulated everything from the beginning.
Crazy. This is one that's gonna stay with me for a wild! Can't see a Blue Butterfly normally again.
Though this wasn't a hard book to read at all, the choice of words was harder than what I'm used to. I hope this taught me some kanji for life.
In terms of plot, I liked the twist to those pure love stories of sickish girls who inspire otherwise lost boys. Only the girl in this one is actually a psychopath of sorts. This is inspired in the Blue Whale challenge from some years ago, and a lot of the game felt very far fetched to me, especially whenever it came to Kei's participation. Still, I really liked her character.
Unlike your usual Japanese book, the pace here is quick and the story takes many turns. I wish we could have done without the horny teenagers part, though.
I honestly had no idea what to expect, I got this book as a free ARC from Bookcon. It was a great story, I really enjoyed it. I could see this becoming an amazing one season anime, and I hope one day it becomes an anime because that would be great.
And yes this is my first time buy novel from them. If this book wasn't wrap, and I can flip through the pages before buy, I will put it back on the shelf :'>
