Escaping from deranged cyborgs and a malcontent artificial intelligence had been the run of Daisy’s life, but one from which she had miraculously come out the other side, and in one piece, no less. Unfortunately for her, she had survived that ordeal only to find herself in a far deeper mess.

With an even more dangerous turn of events throwing her in harm’s way, Daisy’s original plight was now dwarfed by the new issues at hand. Issues involving not only her crewmates and herself, but threats on a global level. Earth was in jeopardy, and much as she hated to admit it, Daisy, it seemed, was its best hope.

Driven into action and forced to rely not only on her own wits, but also the voice in her head, tirelessly watching her back, Daisy found her newfound skills tested to their limits, and quite nearly to their breaking point. Unfortunately for her adversaries, they didn’t know just who it was they were pushing around, because Daisy was most definitely not to be trifled with. She was the woman who pushed back.

Pushing Daisy
The Clockwork Chimera, Book 2
By: Scott Baron
Narrated by: Vivienne Leheny
Series: The Clockwork Chimera, Book 2
This is such a fun series! I read the first book and started the ebook of this one but decided to buy the audible book so my mom can listen to it too! She is almost 90 but still loves books! I got her hooked on sci-fi and fantasy about 5 years ago. 😁
I love the characters, the bots, the world building, plot, the humor and wit! It is very original and just a joy to listen to!
The narration was perfect! Loved it! Can't wait to get the money for the next book in the series!

Publisher’s Description: With an even more dangerous turn of events throwing her in harm’s way, Daisy’s original plight was now dwarfed by the new issues at hand. Review: I received this novel and #3 in the series from the author because I am so kewl and speshul. But don’t think for a moment that bribes will change the outcome of my reviews. Influence, maybe, but never bowing low to ply the tainted area that Kirkus licks so well. So let us get on with it!

Daisy. In the first novel she was a total asshat. In this installment she is asshat 2.0 which elevates her to butthead. I just don’t see how a character gets more myopic and self-centered as they move through a story line. Let’s see…..she hates cyborgs, loves Artificial Intelligence, hates augmented humans, loves augmented humans, hates aliens, and loves aliens all within this revolving door of her mind in which sits her besty Sarah. Now Sarah provides levity and logical processes to Dimwits irrational tendencies while turning up Daisy’s ability to see and sense danger…blah, blah, blah. What Sarah really does is provide a constant internal monologue that helps to explain and develop the story line while providing an iterative backboard for Daisy to develop as a viable character. And boy does that shjt get old. You know what? I really thought that Sarah was going to get transferred out of Daisy’s pea brain and into her own body or an AI cradle. Nope. But let me tell you something, this…. cannot-happen-soon-enough.

So where does that leave us? Despite every crisis suddenly being about her (Daisy) and her sudden move from reluctant bystander to Uber leader, I kind of liked that Daisy had extreme juvenile tendencies and this consistent disbelief in her extraordinary abilities. She is self-centered to the point of keeping vital information from her cohorts because, according to her,she needed “space” or some shjt. This myopic narcissistic view of the world plagues me with the author’s intent. Is he looking for a movie deal? Waiting to reveal the true nature of Daisy what with all that stored data in her head? Or is it the simple compounding of an error from which there is no returning?

So as I wind down I can’t help but think what impetus drives me to return to this series. Is it a car accident type curiosity or something closer to “I hope this character grows the fuk up and jumps on board with a great story, thereby making it better”.

This book picked right up where the first left off! The best part is that if you, like me, took a few weeks in between books, the story recaps all the important things! The plot continues to twist and turn as Daisy is forced into training to make the most of her talents. Once she heads to Earth's surface, all bets are off as the team must work with other humans and AIs to have a chance against the alien invaders. I suck at summaries but read above!

I am still not into the Daisy character, she is spoiled and just rude half of the time with a vastly insufferable attitude. I wish she would just hook back up with Vince and be over it too. The alien and the AIs are my favorite characters 😂

The best parts of these books are the actual plot and storyline. Where some of the dialogue and language gets cringey at times, the author keeps my attention just through all the plot twists! He really is a fantastic story teller. The rest of the books are on my near-future TBR!

Also my apologies I am writing this at 4am😂

Hard, she urged. The beam once more snapped rigid into a solid beam rather than a floppy loop. “Nice,” she said with a smile, admiring the hefty, yet simultaneously weightless length extending from the gauntlet on her arm. “Damn, Daisy,” Sarah giggled. “Nicely done. A grower, not a shower, huh?” Daisy chuckled, the break in concentration causing the length of the beam to go limp. “Aww, it’s okay, Daze. It happens to everyone,” Sarah said with a laugh. “Wah, wah. Sad face.”

The series continues and is still brilliant! Earth's new heroes may just be able to find a way to reclaim Earth. Lots of action, and tense moments.

Only marked down a star because Daisy's wit seems to have taken a hit from from first. Even though there was some funny moments like above, she just seemed to have dulled a bit.

Still I'd highly recommend this series.

I am finding myself more and more absorbed in this story with each installment. Ive never really been a big fan of sci fi but I must admit, Scott's imaginative plot has got me intrigued.

I dont really like Daisy's character to be honest, she really isnt a very nice person. Her judgey, selfish, moaning attitude is enough to want to see the bad guys win. So it's a damn good job that the other chatacters are pleasant enough to keep me rooting for the good guys.

It took me a while to get going with this book, i think mostly because of Daisy and her bloody moaning and woe is me attitude but once she got her hear out of her bottom and followed Vince to earth, the action really started and i found myself turning the pages and enjoying the ups and downs.

Book three looks like it should be an action packed instalment, hopefully answering a few questions and putting to rest some of Daisy's not so appealing attributes.

Scott Baron (author) and Vivienne Leheny (Narrator) bring us the second enthralling audiobook of the “Clockwork Chimera” series entitled “Pushing Daisy”. This audiobook picks up right where the first one left off, so if you have not listened to that one yet, I highly recommend you do. The series is a blending of both space opera and post-apocalyptic genres, and I can say that the story is rather unique from others like it. If you are one who appreciates well-written and narrated stories that involve humans, aliens and intelligent machines, I think you will find this one to your liking. As I stated in the review of the first book on the series, this one is a bit darker and more mature focused then Mr. Baron’s Dragon Mage series; another wonderful series as well.

The author did an exceptional job of bringing in a strong lead female character (Daisy) who is often pushed to her limits from all the events of the first audiobook. Yet, in this story we find that when pushed, Daisy pivots and is able to push back even harder. She is driven and has a level of tenacity that will not stop until her goal is achieved. I like that the author provided some details from the previous audiobook in the series to assist the listener in recalling events leading up to where we are now. This story picks up nearly four months after the previous story left off. A plan needs to be devised to address this new worldly threat, and much of this involved training, exploration and more training. During this time on the Moon, Daisy begins to grasp the situation of being the chosen one and debates if she is the right person for this task. The listener is also given some extra details on Daisy’s past. Filling in things like what makes her tick, what are her fears, etc. You begin to appreciate her even more in this audiobook.

As with the first audiobook, Mr. Baron does a great job of including interesting and unique technology. The ability of the alien technology AI to detect standard electronic equipment signatures makes it all that more difficult when the group wants to remain always under the radar; no pun intended. How can one plan a trip back to Earth from the Moon while trying not to be detected? It is a puzzle that needs to be solved if they are going to accomplish their goals. Technology is not the only thing needing to be worked on, but many of the broken relationships must be address as well if everyone plans on remaining a unified team. The story takes a bit of a side quest as a few strange objects are discovered while doing some extra exploring on the Moon’s surface. Some newly discovered places and technology make for an interesting twist in this story already filled with twists. Yet, all of this is well developed into the main storyline as the tale progresses.

As the goal line moves forward, Daisy begins to understand that much of her understanding is built upon lies and deceit. She begins to struggle with her own existence and has a crisis much like Neo in the movie “The Matrix”. She begins to learn that one double-cross leads to another double-cross. Even the listener begins to question what is true and what has been fabricated. I like that feeling of unknown and discovery with the characters. This part of the series focused on revealing the complex nature of Daisy’s situation along with more details of the aliens she first encountered. The story includes action, adventure, and discovery along with complex characters. The author also threw in some pop-culture references along the way which made me smile while listening.

Turning to the audiobook’s narration. As with the first audiobook, Vivienne Leheny did a professional job recording this one as well. The character’s voices remained similar between audiobooks, the audio itself was clear of any audio artifacts, and the volume was consistent. Her reading was well paced, and her voice is clear and pleasant to listen too. There were a few places where she included some effects to enhance the audiobook, yet I can say these were not overly used.

For parents and younger readers, this book, like the first, contains some strong language and topics which could be considered mature. There are conversations involving relationships and intimacy which may be considered explicit to some listeners; by no means pornographic. Some of the violence may be a bit graphic for younger audiences as well.

In summary, if you enjoyed the first book in the series it is not even a question whether you pick up this one or not. The story is compelling, contains plenty of action, and the main female character is strong. The narration was well performed, and the added audio effects gave the audiobook a bit of realism. Note that this book is targeted more towards mature audiences due to its darker feel and graphic violence. I can say that I jumped right into this audiobook upon finishing up the first because I wanted to know more of how Daisy would solve her dilemma. Pushing Daisy is another fun audiobook by Scott Baron, and it is well worth your Audible credit.

The first book in this series was great. But this one? I think it might be even better.

We continue to follow Daisy as she comes to terms with reality, and realizes that the world is a bit... dead. Every one has kinda chosen her as the Chosen One, but if you know our girl Daisy, she doesn't like that.

I like Daisy a lot more in this book. I can understand all of her motivations, and while the plot armour is still there, I've come to terms with her ridiculous intellect.

The plot took a bit to start up, but when it did it never stopped running at full speed. I couldn't stop thinking of it, nd trying to guess what would happen (and with Scott, you're 99% going to be wrong).

I can't wait to dig into the third! (And thankfully, I don't have to!!)

This is such an improvement on book one (Daisy's Run), now we are getting more involved in the nitty-gritty of the action and adventure.

The story pulls you in and you want to know what happens next. Actually, there's very little I can tell without spoiling it. Daisy is a strong, kicka$$ character and is helped in this by others. However, she still seems to have her own agenda and an unwillingness to share information with anyone. Is she right? The characters she meets are excellent, and the scenarios are unusual.

I received this book (and book three) when I purchased book one. I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed the book. All opinions are my own.

Oh goodness.... Is there anything that Daisy can't do? Or won't do? So many interesting twists this time! I kind of knew she would head back to Earth, but I was not expecting all the excitement! Again, I hate the cliffhanger, but there is clearly too much going on to put it all in one book. I hope that the incident on Dark Side is cleared up in the next book (Daisy's little side project). This was so thrilling to read! I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Excellent! I loved this sequel! But there were a lot of things left unanswered here - not a cliffhanger, per se, just threads still dangling. Good thing the next is already available.

Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. - Murphy's law.

I love series. Whether it be a book or movie or show. Each meeting is like sitting down with an old friend and catching up. I'm also a fan of binging on a series, think more of a week long reunion than spaced out visits.

This was everything I could hope for, and I maybe liked this second book more than the first even. It definitely furthered the story without dragging it out because there are more books coming behind. Book one she discovers the problem, book two she's convinced to act, book three set up for the carrying it out. Each phase has felt resolved but still leaving you wanting to know what happens next.

I don't think that the fiction I enjoy the most fits into a nice neat package. But they are share some similarities. I like a strong unlikely of main character whose love language is sarcasm. I like more things blowing up than people falling in love. I love when genres cross over each other. (Aliens/space travel, with monsters, AIs becoming self aware with dystopian worlds. And I like not having any clue what's coming next. This series hits all those points perfectly! If I were shelving it in my actual library- I'd put it with:
Unsung hero's of sublevel 12
Everything written by Rick Guialtieri
Amish vampires in space
Terminal alliance
Zombies vs. aliens vs vampires vs dinosaurs.
It would be very happy there and I would happily reread this shelf over and over.

I really like the relationship between Daisy and Tamara. I laughed every time they have training sessions. Like is she still mad? I don't know do you still have broken ribs? Then still mad. I didn't love the relationship between Daisy and Vince but did love. But I loved Cal and Joshua. My heart completely belongs to any well dressed cyborgs though.

I'm looking forward to reading the last 3 books next month

Read Book 1 and then on to book two hoping that "Daisy" would grow up but no - she doesn't. She is one of the most annoying characters I have ever read and just could NOT continue with reading this book. Since there is a fair amount of books in this series I was hoping that they would be worth reading but I just can not connect with any of the characters and it just leaves me flat or annoyed...

There's not really much to say about this book. It's more the second part of a long 5 part story split into 5 books. Daisy doesn't want to fulfill her original creation objective and rather just live as full a life as she can on the moon, but slowly, events unfold that lead to a new mission. We finish book/part 2 on another cliffhanger ready for book 3.

3 1/2
This ends on more of a cliffhanger than the last but only because of a type of epilogue. I'm so on the fence of 3 of 4 stars as overall I did really like it but at some point in the middle it stopped being about the characters and all about the plans to retake Earth and the battle. It was very complicated and left me a bit bored yet... the beginning of the book was really good and the end was really good, but then there was a last minute cliffhanger that should have been in the next book. Add that to the drag in the middle of all the battle plans... it is between good and really good, 3 and 4. I went right into the next book and have been enjoying it actually quite a bit more than this and it make me judge this a bit harsher. This has a bit of fun but mainly it is character driven scifi with a small romance way in the background, off again on again. Daisy is an interesting character that is in some ways too independent yet she relies on her friends for certain things too. She is too close to her vest for many of the things that she gets into. Of course she has been lied to in the past and is being pushed to something she really doesn't want so wants her own time and space but it goes way too far with Freya and in some ways the mind in her head.
A good edition to the series.

This was a bit better than before. I was unsure of this book's goal since it constantly changes. The beginning was about... well... pushing Daisy (a little on the nose there, but it's nothing terrible). Then they go back to Earth then there is a SLEW of different things coming out of nowhere. This book feels more like a set than a contained story. It is nice to see a different view of the world, especially the aliens. Then the virus for the AIs and the advice AIs themselves. There is a lot thrown out, but nothing was really accomplished in the story. Some new inventions and discoveries were made, and bad things happened here and there but most of this story was just things happening. I was unsure where the book would end, and it's at a military base, but I feel it is a bit sudden. However, I did enjoy the book better than the first. I understood what was happening even though there was a bit more twist later. The book felt better than what came before. I just hope the next book has a couple of things right. One set a goal, and two, stay on track. If those two things are met, then I bet this will be a good series.

Hybrid Humanity at Work

Daisy and her companions have a huge challenge ahead of them. But first they must solve some misunderstandings about each other. One such concerns the boundary between human and machine.

This question can be approached from two directions. Start with a fully intact human. Gradually replace each biological "part" with an artificial prosthesis or organ. As the entity becomes more and more "cyborg," at which point does it become "not human?

From the other direction, start with some computer driven robot. Gradually increase its level of "general artificial intelligence" and replace mech-ware with bio-ware. At which point would it be indistinguishable from "human?"

You might want to consider such issues as you read Scott Baron's excellent "Daisy" series!

Highly recommended!

Summary: This book was fun, good space opera, but lots of aspects that were a bit flimsy and if over thought would make it unreadable, as it was Daisy is super intelligent, super dexterous, super strong, but has the wisdom of a 2 year old - it makes for a fun story. Book 2 similar theme summed up as fun but stupid, erasy to read so I'll keep going with the series

Plotline: Contrived in places but yes moves nicely with an overall purpose

Premise: the overall aim of the premise works but some of the details are off. Book 2 we learn more and not all good

Writing: simple quick the user is right in the action with Daisy. No great depth to the characters though

Ending: Nice completion all set up for book 2 ... book 3 ...

Pace: Never a dull moment!

Wow!

This story just keeps getting better and better. In a world devastated by aliens, Daisy and her friends are trying their best to launch missiles to the communication hubs the aliens have built so they can effectively stop them from contacting their home world. They have finally reached Joshua, the most powerful AI in existence trained in warfare. I absolutely love the characters and the story is extremely intense and detailed. Can't wait for the next book.

I started this series because I liked authors Book of Bawb series. The Daisy series started out good, Chasing Daisy was pretty bad. The first half of the book was Daisy going back in time to save herself and others and basically became a recap of the first 3 books. All of the AI’s now have emotions and feelings and the teenage AI acts like a human teenager. It seems that anything that Daisy needs her new AI just invents. This book feels like the author just phoned it in. The previous books as well as the Book of Bawb were enjoyable, and I recommend them. I will read the final book in the Daisy series, but I hope it’s not as bad as this one.

I'm not a big Science Fiction reader but this space opera adventure is really enjoyable. The Daisy/Sarah combo personality adds an extra dimension to the traditional heroine. There's also more training, exploration and encounters in this book. And the new childlike AI brings some light comedic moments.
