Ambitious. Intense. Irresistible.

I never wanted to fall for a man.
And definitely not two men.

They tear me apart until I don’t know how I’ll ever be whole again. Until I’m not sure I want to be. How can I choose between two halves of myself?

Can you feel desperation through the pages of a book? Can you wallow in confusion along with the characters, even up to the last moment? Can fear, pain, joy, and pleasure course through your system, all at the same time. Each as powerful as the other, until you are left bereft and smiling? You can, and you will, when you read this book. I was completely immersed in the world, in the story, and couldn't pull myself away

This is the second story in the duet, and it takes place 6 months after our first story ended. Nothing is solved, nothing is clear, and everything is falling apart. It comes and goes in waves, the emotions of the characters are stark and will reach to you. The pain, it will weigh heavy on you, but somehow, with lightning flash power and precision, it comes together at the very end. The happily ever after is as tarnished and damaged as our characters, but it is what they want, and what they need, and that made the journey all the more meaningful

I was torn apart with the first book, so of course my crazy mind needed to know how this story ended.

And here it is, honest and simple....

My emotions were all over the place, I won't lie. I pushed boundaries with this one, but I knew I would going into this book. Definitely a book that was hard yet, I still enjoyed it. I still got what I wanted, and yes, I still want more.

The story picks up 6 months after the first book ends. We get thrown back into a triangle Christopher, Sutton, and Harper can't seem to be pulled out of. Truths are told, mistakes are made, hearts are broken, this is definitely a story of emotion and I don't think I was quite prepared for it. It was beautifully done, the writing sucked you in. If we can push your limit and can handle this trope, read this one, it'll definitely have you feeling it all!!

The Evolution of Man was such an emotionally beautiful and steamy conclusion to the Trust Fund Duet by Skye Warren.
The Evolution of Man picks up where we were left hanging on the side of a cliff and wondering what was going to happen next with Harper, Christopher and Sutton. The story starts 6 months after book 1 ended. Right away,nothing is solved nor clear and Harper, everything is falling apart. I felt like my heart was breaking and i wanted to, at times, tear my heart out because i felt for all involved-- the emotions of the characters are quite evident to the readers and will draw you into the malestrom of their rollercoaster of emotions.
The library scene is really one of the best scenes of the book. The story deals with loss, lies,secret, heartbreak, angst, twists, turns, romance and love. The story did feel a bit rushed at the ending but still it was a phenomenal romance read that ultimately delivered.

My rating: 4.7 stars *****

I think this book nearly broke me and I’m not even mad about it. From start to finish, the emotion in this one is intense. Yes, it’s angsty, but not in the way you’d think with a love triangle. Most of the angst in this one comes from the devastating reality that Harper is losing her mom, and the heartbreaking helplessness she feels about being powerless to prevent it.
Skye has always had this beautiful, almost magical way with words. She can weave even the most abject heartbreak and give it its own beauty.
And I think the message is a really beautiful one in itself. Because death is hard; the hardest thing for those left behind. But it’s a freedom for those who leave, and it’s the most inevitable, the most natural completion to life. So even though I bawled my eyes out; for Harper, for her mom, for everyone else left reeling, there was also this amazing sense of calm peace because the hardest part - waiting, watching - was over. And although we know grief is never easy, having closure helps.
And although Harper always knew she had love around her, having it displayed so primally at a time that she needed it most was its own transition into how her new family will look in a future where both her parents are gone.
I loved all of it. It tore everything inside me to shreds, but sometimes we need this reminder of our own humanity. That even our fictional heroes are not perfect examples of how to cope. Life is messy and complicated, it doesn’t play by the rules, and it reserves the right to turn everything on its head on a whim.
This was equally true of the two men in Harper’s life: Christopher and Sutton. I’ve been #TeamChristopher since the beginning. There was such a sense of inevitability about the two of them since way back in Avery’s story. So the introduction of Sutton in Survival was unexpected and, at first, unwelcome. After that unconventional storyline combusted, the three picked it back up six months later, but with the rules thrown out. Most of their interactions were centred in pain. Harper’s; Sutton’s; Christopher’s. Their interactions seemed laced with so much regret for the past, so many mistakes made, and no clear way forward. Shocking revelations emerged which only served to create more questions and more confusing confrontations, because they spoke best with their bodies, but when that was over, none of them seemed to know what to say or how to react.
I couldn’t have begun to guess how this book would play out. Harper could have ended up with either man, both men, or no men. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried, but the romantic in me recognises the romantic in Skye and I trusted her not to leave us hanging.
This conclusion was intense, profound, gripping and melancholy. But it was so much more than that. It gave us hope, a promise of new beginnings and bright futures. It tore me down and rebuilt me, the pieces a little irrevocably altered, but ultimately satisfied. The best kind of angst always feels good even when you don’t want it to.

This book is sad, intense, sexy and so full of different emotions it pulls towards you. Sutton, Christopher and Harper. Three people living in lies with there heart. Plus Harper goes through so much in this book and I loved her strength but also I loved when everything finally just clicked with her instead of living in a bubble. I do wish there was more to this book though. I would love to know Christopher’s point of view. Even Sutton’s cause there is a part in this book that kinda confused me and why it’s even in the story. But overall this book is very hot in some parts and very emotional. Definitely want more! 5/5 stars

The Evolution of Man was an emotional and seductive conclusion to the Trust Fund Duet. With her captivating writing style, Skye Warren gives readers an unforgettable story of finding strength through love.

I expected this story to be full of angst, but I wasn't expecting the level of emotion that it involved. Harper was a woman practically drowning, trying her best to grasp on to something to pull her up. The story picks up six months after the end of the first book, and things have changed for her significantly. The book dealt with a sensitive and difficult subject, and I think here is where Warren excelled the most in this story. The emotional elements practically come to life through the words on the pages. I felt Harper's pain and her desperation on a deep level. And when it came to the two men in her life who pulled her in different directions, I felt the turmoil and uncertainty that plagued her so strongly.

The flow of the book was fairly fast-paced, and the writing was exquisite. The intimate scenes were well done and balanced evenly throughout the story. There were a couple of twists that were well placed and changed the course of Harper, Christopher, and Sutton's journey. It's hard to write a review about a story like this without giving away spoilers, but I will say that I felt Harper ended up with the man she was meant to be with. Warren gave her readers a story that was both heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. She will always be one of my go-to authors and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

---Initial thoughts---

I’m marking this as one of the worst endings to a book I’ve ever read. Seriously bad. The author opens up this giant can of worms and then ends the book without any explanation, closure, or epilogue. I feel like I wasted hours of my precious time for a cheap HEA; if I can even call it that.

Up until 90% I was willing to give this 4 stars and I thought I knew what the big reason was for the heros push-pull act... but again, I got absolutely nothing.

---More ranting review below---

So I'm not really a fan of love triangles because someone always gets heart broken OR ends in a MFM relationship *which I am a fan of* and this book proved why I dont read triangles. The guy that didnt get to be the heroines Hero; not only was he "in love" with the heroine but he also wanted the main hero! So double whammy of heart brokenness for the third wheel guy. The author opens up this can of worms that the two men might secretly be in love with each other. I felt like this never was resolved, especially because the author dropped hint after hint that this was going to end in a poly relationship, and it didnt.

The main hero that got the girl pushed SO MUCH for no reason at all. We never got a reason why he did the things he did, not even a half assed excuse of "because I dont deserve you." He was giving the reader the run around for no reason, and because of this, their "HEA" felt incomplete and lackluster.

The heroine; of course she had to be an irresistable virgin. OF COURSE. Because then she wouldn't have been worthy of either men. At first, I liked her character, but with each chapter I got more annoyed with her 'why dont they love me' act. And her whole thing about being a famous artist and how everything she painted turned into a fortune was total horse shit. I think the author was trying to play off the famous street artist Banksy, but it just didnt jive at all.

First book was 4 stars for interesting characters and story development. Second book gets 1 because everything started to fall flat and repetitive.

Emotional and very powerful! Awesome!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Read Survival of the Richest First!
It took me a quick perusal of my last review to familiarize myself with where we were in the story. It certainly didn’t take as long for me to fall right back into the push and pull between these two intense men.
Your heart is right there with Harper as she tries to figure out why she is pulled towards both of these men. But her heart still belongs to one even though he appears to not have the same feelings.
We experience some heartbreaking moments in this story. We also experience hot connections between all three characters, separate and together. Quite amazing on its own. Sizzling!
Then she makes us wait all the way until the end find out the truth about everything that has been occurring. The building, illness, the men. Yes, plural… And more tears.
Skye Warren has given us an amazing story that is so unlike any other romance out there. You can feel the anguish and heartbreak, darkness and lightness. It’s truly a book you have to experience if you love contemporary romance.
I’m so bummed by this book. I loved the first one and The Evolution of Man was one of my highly anticipated books to read and it just fell so short.
I’m sad that so many questions were left unanswered, it was a bit of a jumbled mess in the actual execution of the story, there really was no evolving of any of the characters, AND I honestly just didn’t love where the author took it with the characters, I’m just disappointed all around.
I’ve seen some good reviews, so maybe it’s just me :(
There were some hot scenes, but even those fell short I’m sad to say.
I would still read this author... this one just wasn’t for me.
“Sometimes you need the darkness to shine. And sometimes you need death to come fully alive.”
I finished this book feeling powerful. Feeling the power women had over time. And it’s not just the main female character that made me feel like this. It was Medusa, Cleopatra and Lilith who made me remember that sometimes women get hold of life harder than any man could ever do it.
I had a feeling from the beginning that Harper would chose the wrong man. And I was so right. But it was so hot reading about the connection she had with each man. Especially with Sutton. I fell so hard for that man. Christopher was not even half of the man Sutton was.
It’s so painful when you read about a third character who doesn’t get the person he loves in the end. Who loses everything and sees the woman/man he/she loves in someone else’s arms. I always feel so bad for them and this time my heart literally broke when I saw that he was left aside. Damn it!
Anyway... there is no doubt that I enjoyed every single page of this book. It had a lot of sad parts, but the writing style made it worth it. I just feel like I need to read more about Sutton. I’m not able to give up on that character. He made an imprint on my heart. And it will be stuck there for a long time...
3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! It didn’t feel finished. I don’t like the way it ended, nothing felt resolved. What’s happened to Sutton? There was this whole build up to this fabulous love triangle and then nothing? Totally unsatisfied.
It was a wonderful end to one of the hottest books I read this year. Intense, still full of angst and definitely more scorching scene between two men and a woman. I totally enjoyed this series.
I can't even right now.
To give you an idea of my mindset before I started this book:
- I had just finished devouring over 20 Skye Warren books during the month.
- I looked at my Kindle and this cover and thought, 'this is it - the last Skye Warren book.'
- I wanted to start it, to devour it, but I was afraid that once I did that, there would be NO MORE books left to read.
But I caved. How could I resist Sutton, Christopher and Harper? I couldn't.
The Evolution of Man is the second book (& the conclusion of) the Survival of the Richest duet and it was nothing like I expected.
I thought I knew what I was going to get with this book - I knew NOTHING.
The dynamic between Christopher, Sutton and Harper was explosive. My heart broke for Harper and the way she broke apart during this story. Dealing with the illness of her mother, the feelings for two men and the continuous heartbreak of the way Christopher failed her.
But I loved watching the shift. The symbolism of the library - the damage and destruction and what can be built once you tear down your walls. Skye Warren weaves a beautifully erotic tale that will leave you breathless in one scene and then feeling overwhelming emotion in the next.
I am blown away by the talent this author has. The way she can make you fall in and out of love with a character over the course of a scene. Beautifully created characters that are flawless and perfect all at the same time.
I am desperate for more from this author and this world.
The Evolution of Man is full of hot sexy times, romance and mindgames galore. But like a typical Skye Warren book she leaves you gasping for breath and on pins and needles in anticipation. I loved this conclusion and seriously never wanted it to end!
Skye is a a brilliant writer in that she makes you feel every emotion in this story. My heart ran the gamut of emotions from being happy to overwhelmingly heart broken. I smiled and teared up in the same breath and could not get enough. When we last saw Harper St. Claire, her heart was torn in two directions between Christopher Bardot and Sutton Mayfair. And boy did this author kill me with the conclusion! I found my heart moving in so many directions and rooting for everyone. I ached for both men but for Harper more as she was suffering the impending loss of her mother and being more confused than ever.
Without giving away any spoilers, the Evolution of Man is of course a brilliant love story of a woman caught between two men. But more importantly, this novel was perfectly written as we see Harper metaphorically personified so aptly in the story. She has come into her own and knows who and what she wants and deserves. Like her hope for the destroyed and wrecked library on the verge of collapse, Harper eventually shines and is brought back to life after much hard work, determination and love.
Gah!! This story was magical and everything I have come to expect and love from this author. Pure writing gold filled with heartmelting swoons, angst and a lovestory of the ages. It is pure Skye Warren gold and a story befitting the Queen we have rooted for since The Pawn. And the man who eventually wins her hand? He was her true King in my opinion - the man who always deserved her even when he doubted it himself. Bravo! 6 stars! ~Ratula
"I’m like a cartoon statue that’s been hammered. There’s a crack at the impact. The crack spreads into a thousand fractures, until I’m made of a million pieces."
A while back in June, I read a book called Survival of the Richest by Skye Warren. I went on a roller coaster with it. I smiled. I swooned. I screamed. Every single sentence and word in the book, I ate it up and swallowed. Little did I know that it will end up with a shocking ending that wrecked. I was a mess again. I needed book 2. I needed my answers. The Evolution of Man appeared in my kindle. I was so excited to the point that I could not contain it. Finally, I would get my answers. Finally, every twist and turn would be resolved. I was truly blown away. Skye Warren always managed to captivate me with her words. You feel like you are in the book, watching every scene from the side-lines. The eye-catching storyline. The smashing characters. The Evolution of Man is a total escape to a twisted and incredible world. I waited for this book for a long time. Let me tell you, it was truly worth the wait.
The Evolution of Man is the stunning conclusion to the Survival of the Richest duet. What the hell, Skye Warren? My heart was already butchered by Survival of the Richest. Now you want to annihilate even more with The Evolution of Man. The Evolution of Man fully decimated my soul. Every page poured out emotion till it crippled me. Every sentence told a story of angst that ripped me in two. Every word teared me up. Wow, The Evolution of Man took my breath away. Sexy. Seductive. Sensational. The Evolution of Man is an emotional journey of strength and love. A story of a love triangle that pulls your heart strings. A story of shocking and warped mind games. The Evolution of Man will mess with your mind. The Evolution of Man will take your breath away. The Evolution of Man will push your boundaries. You will love every moment of it. I utterly fell in the rabbit hole of The Evolution of Man. Skye Warren paints a picture and you become easily trapped in the colours o her writing. Her writing absolutely sucks you in. You feel every emotion. Every suspense. Every chill. Every thrill. Her writing encompasses everything that’s brilliant. The Evolution of Man truly emptied my soul. What a magnificent continuation.
In The Evolution of Man, your mind, body, soul and heart wrapped in a love triangle so striking and devastating. My mind was played like a toy. I found myself flip flopping on who Harper should choose or what team should I be in. At the end of Survival of the Richest, I was not sure of which team I was. Even finishing, The Evolution of Man, I am still not sure who I rooted for. Weird, I know. The Evolution of Man to me was about Harper. You feel her pain. You feel her heartbreak. You go on her journey of love and strength. This book is not about Christopher nor Sutton. It is about Harper.
Skye Warren truly knows how to capture my heart and soul. She keeps giving me books I cannot comprehend. I just love it. The Evolution of Man excited me but it opened a part of my heart. Truly a must read.
I have been waiting to hear the end of Harper’s story impatiently and I wasn’t disappointed.
I have wanted to hear Harper’s story since I first saw her in the End Game series and I was so glad when it was finally available, then I was left with a cliffhanger from hell I have been thirsty ever since.
Now her story is told and complete and it was so tormented and torn I had tears in my eyes reading the struggle she had to face and the pain she had to deal with. Although this may seem like a triangle it’s so much more when you’ll be done reading this story you feel like you have stopped breathing the whole time there is no reprise from feeling raw while you read what these characters go through.
I’m so glad I read this duet and I hope this author will pick up someone else’s story from the dark world of Tanglewood.
2.75 Underwhelming Stars
This book could have been soooo much more. 4 stars for the hawt as fuck MFM sex scenes. 1.5 stars for all the rest of the book, leaving it at 2.75 overall. The ending was super rushed and a bunch of stuff was just left completely unfinished.
I loved the tease of a possible ménage/ triad situation here between the three MCs but felt it needed to be fleshed out way more. Particularly at the end.
Lots of unfulfilled potential overall here, in my opinion.
P.S. I have zero faith that these two lasted even a week after the ending of this book...so yeah, there's that. *shrugs*
I am going to attempt to review this and not give things away. There is a lot that happens it this, a lot of heart ache, angst and new discoveries that really should be read by each reader fresh so they feel the effect. I will spoiler tag a few things because I want to mention them and they've been swimming inside my head since I finished this yesterday.
I have been lost in this world of Skye Warren for the last few months. I picked up Escort on a whim and fell in love with Hugo and Bea but I also needed to know about Bea's friend Harper, about what Hugo said regarding her and Christopher and all the men at the Den when Hugo goes there. From that one book, I went backwards and read each book about Avery and Gabriel, both books about Penny and Damon and went straight into Harper and Christopher's and was hooked so damn fast that it hurt me to have to wait for the conclusion to the story. I was lucky that all the other books were already out so I could simply move on as fast as possible to read everything and get lost in everyone's story. But this book. This book I had to wait for and it was so worth it.
From the beginning, I wanted Harper and Christopher to be together. That was it. That was MY endgame but Skye Warren was able to do something to me with this series and this love triangle that doesn't always happen... she made me care about both men. Usually when I read a love triangle, one man is so strong it makes the other pale in comparison and I really don't care about the other one. But in this, from the moment we meet Sutton I fell hard for his southern charm. While I wanted the fairy tale and hopeless romantic story of Harper and Christopher I was drawn to Sutton, to his strength, his tenderness, his loyalty and the mystery of who he really was. Was he really the stand up guy Harper imagined or was he just as twisted and manipulative as Christopher was using Harper for his own gains. It drove me crazy trying to figure out both Christopher and Sutton and what they really wanted for and with Harper.
Since this is the second book, I am going to consider what happened in Survival of the Richest not a spoiler. The scene with Harper losing her virginity was off the charts hot. I loved how Sutton ordered everyone around and how it was Christopher who was Harper's first. That is how it should be and once again, how I wanted the whole story to end up. It was intense and it brought up the nagging issue for me with Sutton and what his deal with Christopher really was. I would think it takes a deep trust to share a woman with another man sexually at the same time. It was interesting to see how Harper reacted and yeah, I had a few moments where I wanted her to find a way to keep them both and live a happy Polyamorous life but the other part of me, wanted her with Christopher. But then there is Sutton.
After the mess that was the end of book one and the whole library deal, I was ready to see where this would lead and eventually end. Harper has a lot to deal with. Her mother is dying of cancer, she is in love with Christopher and knows she always will be but doesn't know if she can ever get him to be honest with her about her feelings and then there is Sutton. The charmer who has walked away from his business partnership with Christopher because of Harper but there is always something about their friendship and partnership that Harper needs to understand.
This book was beautiful in so many ways. All the art we get from Harper is always stunning with how she translates what is going on around her or in her life into art. Even if it's pumpkin carving of different cocks. She is such a strong girl who is losing it a bit because she doesn't know how to handle her mother dying and the man she needs the most to help her through it is still cold. But once again, there is Sutton with his light hair and blue eyes and all that understanding and empathy that Harper needs. She knows Sutton would be good to her and for her but she can't shake the obsession with Christopher Bardot long enough to let anyone else into her heart. Her bed is another matter and I will just say, the scene at the poker room of the Den was hot. Hot Hot Hot and there is a moment... let me go into a spoiler tag for a bit. Honestly, it's a spoiler for this book so only click on it if you have read it or really like to be spoiled. Kay?
There are some truly tender moments in this book with Avery helping Harper deal with her mom dying. I loved them watching old movies and An Affair to Remember is one of my favorites too. Harper's mom has her own story of heartache and heartbreak and it was hard to read some of the scenes with her in it. The author treated the entire thing with respect though down to the last moments of detail. I loved seeing Bea and Hugo in this and even Damon and Blue. Avery with her worries about Gabriel have me itching to read more of them because they are such a pleasure to read.
But this book. I waited for it and it didn't disappoint at all. It's full of angst that this self proclaimed angst whore dug every word of it. The best thing about this series is you feel everything with Harper. You feel her turmoil over wanting both Christopher and Sutton and her psuedo-guilt of it all. You feel how she hates how her father treated her mother before he died and the shit he pulled in his will. You feel how she loves to create art and the passion she puts into it. You know how hard it is for her to watch her mother die and you know that she can't let go of her love for Christoper.
This was just so good. I waited a whole 15hrs before I downloaded this after it appeared on my Kindle App and once I opened it, I devoured this book in less than 5hrs. That short time doesn't mean that I didn't absorb every bit of romance, denial, manipulation and revelation on every damn page. All of it, it's seeped into me and I can't let go. I want to dive back in and read it all over again. I might just do that.
I can't wait for the newsletter coming out soon.
I'll shut up now.
***Original review immediately after finishing the book***
Fuck me.
I devoured this in just about 5 hours.
It was that good.
This was so fucking good.
I am strung out now.
I might review this later or I might read it again and then review it .
I was thoroughly disappointed with this book. After reading Survival of the Richest it was a five star read, this one takes great effort to even be a three star read. Skye Warren said she struggled to write this book and it was so easy to picture her struggling with its painfully boring writing. It was slow-paced and lackluster. This is not a romance book. None of the characters are in love with each other. It ranged from being a MFM relationship between the characters to being fully MM, almost as if SW didn’t know which direction to go in. I loved the message of rebirth in the end, and the complicated relationship between Harper and Christopher, but I confess that I didn't like Sutton's role in the story. It felt wrong and disconnected from the everything. I don’t know what happened to Harper but she feels like a different character than the one for the other books more TSTL.
The book starts off six months after the end of Survival of the Richest and Harper is swindled into buying the library from Christopher and Sutton. Christopher flips the building from paying two million dollars; 1 million each [which was all the money he had] and Harper pays Two billion dollars [she now has control of her trust fund]. She doesn’t even hire a structural engineer to look at the place she wants it so she pays for it thinking all it needs is a front wall rebuilt and the wall carving fixed. In reality it is so unstable the roof and walls are coming down and the foundation crumbling, but she keeps entering the library to sculpt clay to fix the carved wooden wall she loves. She never once tries to remove the rare books from the library into safe storage.
Christopher’s building next to the damaged library in the poorer crime ridden part of Tanglewood comes across as the tone-deaf Antilia building private home in South Mumbai, India. He feels very one dimensional for 40% of the book. During a threesome with Harper and Sutton at the Den, Christopher is in Harper’s mouth and Sutton inside her and he places both of his hands on Sutton’s shoulder. The scene morphs into something that felt like Harper was just a receptacle and it was all about Christopher and Sutton together.
Sutton admits he wants Christopher and first he wanted Harper because Christopher wanted her, then he met her and develop sexual feelings for her too. In another threesome between the three Christopher acts at first as if he doesn’t want anything sexual from Sutton, almost as if he conveniently forgot the scene at the Den. No touching was involved in this scene between the men and Christopher declares that he is not bi or gay and only wants Harper and will never share her again. Sutton has a weird sister who is sexually attracted to him and hates Harper, this was arbitrarily thrown into the story.
There was a random Prince at the Den who insinuates that Harper sleeps around; there is no explanation for his antagonism of Harper, is he a business rival of Christopher? It is never explained.
Harper’s mother and father’s brief marriage and breakdown is not even explored, we learn nothing new about their relationship. Her mother is dying from stage four cancer and is trying to prepare for it. She is a cruel person just like her manipulative ex-husband. On her death plan she says that she wishes Christopher should be with Harper along with Harper’s friends when she passes, in reality she doesn’t want him there in her last moments so Harper thinks he doesn’t care about her.
Some prostitute at the library is introduced but she wasn’t a fully developed character.
Gabriel and Avery are having problems. She thinks he is cheating when he is traveling for businesses. This issue is never resolved.
On the plus side we learn that Blue and Lola have three children. Bea is pregnant for Hugo and she even makes it to the hospital to support Harper even though she is afraid to leave her apartment. She has also been to the Den and theater with Hugo.
So who ends up with whom well you’ll have to read it to find out; Christopher and Harper, Harper and Sutton, Christopher and Sutton or Christopher, Harper and Sutton?
The Evolution of Man by Skye Warren is a heartbreaking, raw, emotional erotic romance that was complicated and yet sensual and thought-provoking. Yes, this is a love triangle. Yes, there is heartbreak. Yes, there are flawed characters. Yes, to all of the above but what Skye Warren magnificently does is she creates a story that sucks you in. A story where your heart bled for the heroine, Harper as she battles with her feelings for two men and at the same time cope with the struggles of her loss. As far as what to expect, expect the unexpected. An ending that will leave you reeling and at the same amazed how poignant, beautiful, tragic and sultry Warren’s writing is. A must read for fans of a complicated love story that is layered with truth, honesty, pain, and a deeper understanding of love.
Go, girl, give us absolutely nothing.
Look, I skimmed 80% of this because it was an absolute mess. I’ve read some truly messy books, but this one is in a league of its own.
You’re telling me Christopher manipulated Harper into a two billion dollar business deal, knowing it was a failure??? Then Sutton agreed to work for her, knowing the renovations would be a failure??? What? Excuse me, WHAT? Are we just going to gloss over that? Apparently. Let’s just not resolve the gross manipulation of these two men. That’s fine. It’s fine. Let’s move on to MORE UNRESOLVED MESS. Sutton’s deceit is confirmed (randomly and anticlimactically, I’m afraid) and then he totally disappears. Poof. Gone. Never mentioned again. I can’t even touch on the bi-panic. I simply don’t have the energy to address it. Have no fear though, as soon as Sutton vanishes, Christopher pops right back up and not only does he not apologize for his terrible behavior up to that point, but Warren literally gives us nothing in terms of groveling, grand gestures, explanations or even saving the library. Awful. Unfulfilling. Waste of time.
4.5 Stars!
"It feels like I’m wearing a red riding hood with two wolves prowling behind me, wondering which one will eat me first. There’s always the chance they’ll eat each other."
I feel like I just walked through the desert without water. I had to reach my destination, but I couldn't stop to take a drink. My throat has closed up, yet my heart half healed. I loved and hated this heartbreaking journey. I knew what awaited me at the end, but the detours were what was needed to see me through.
This book was a daunting, an emotionally charged headache and I wanted so much more with that ending. I can't give you any spoilers. I don't think I've read a triangle quite like this before. Carnal pins and needles, I want to break my kindle and hug it at the same time. What are doing to me? Unconventional meets unexpected, I was jumping from limb to limb on the verge of falling. You know what would make me feel better? Another book. And I never say that. I feel like it ended like it should, yet I need more. I can't say why though. It's spoilerish.
This story will make squirm with need and make you want something so far from normal, knowing it'll never work. I was desperate for something I couldn't understand. Still don't understand. I loved this book even more for that bit of indecisiveness I felt in my core. And like all other Skye Warren books I've read, I felt everything right down to my toes. Indecision is beside the point, Harper is what made this duet what it is. Her strength and growth gave me goosebumps and her insight gave strength to womanhood. I loved her character as a whole, right down to taking what she wanted and fighting through dust and rubble to rebuild. I said this after the first book, Team Harper. I originally rated this 4 stars, but as I wrote this review, I fell even more in love with message behind it.
Skye Warren delivers a story of strength, perseverance, and the effects of a cannonball through the heart! Not at all what I expected and everything I wanted.
Audiobook Review
Overall 2.5 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 2 stars
When I finished Survival of the Richest, I couldn't wait to dive into this book and find out how Harper, Christopher, and Sutton's story would end. Sadly, I found the conclusion to this duet disappointing.
The story and drama were emotional, but so drawn out. It became repetitive, with all the back and forth and pushing away. I didn't understand what was actually happening a lot of the time and I kept waiting for a big reveal/explanation for all the pain and madness. Unfortunately, it never came. A surprise in the love triangle was also dropped on listeners/readers, but never really explored or resolved. It just made my heart hurt so much for that individual. There were certainly some very steamy scenes, but they couldn't make up for the confusing plot. The ending felt rushed and left me with more questions than answers. Erin Mallon was the only reason I was able to continue on with the story. Her narration was amazing and she conveyed so much feeling in her performance. Both her male and female voices were perfect. I really wanted to love this duet, but sadly this conclusion was a miss for me.
The Evolution of Man struck a chord deep within me and I'm unsure of even where to go from here.  Yes, this is a love triangle. Yes, this is an erotic, sensual love story rife with angst and lust and complicated emotion. Yes, this conclusion shatters all the expectations I set in place for it with its shocking twists and the most intense chemistry between Harper, Sutton and Christopher. But it's also a story of loss and grief and heartache that completely obliterated my heart in the most powerful way and I won't soon forget it.
Skye Warren's writing in this novel is next level.  It is stunning and breathtaking and soul shaking and I'm in awe. The story swaths the reader with the most lush imagery, with the most titillating steamy scenes, with the most evocative push and pull between characters. I knew going in who I wanted Harper to end up with. But this book had me second guessing EVERYTHING. This is a twisted game of seductive schemes and sensual ploys and it held me ensnared until the very last page.
Skye Warren never stops BLOWING ME AWAY with her words. The Evolution of Man had my chin on the floor. The tug of war for Harper, the games Harper herself initiates, the intricately woven web of desire and longing and unrequited love had me turning the pages ravenous to see what would come of them all. And just when I thought I knew, the bottom would drop out once more. This is one stellar conclusion, one MUST READ duet, and as far as her writing goes, it's one for the Skye Warren record books. With its lush prose and the most captivating storyline, I simply couldn't get enough of The Evolution of Man.
”Pretend you don’t want this, if it helps. That goes for the both of you. I’ll be the villain in this story.”
I absolutely loved the first two books in this series and was eagerly waiting the release of this one so I could find out how this love triangle would play out. However, after reading many books while waiting for months this one to come out, I struggled to reclaim the feelings I had felt while reading the earlier installments. I was so eager to feel the passion I had previously experienced between the trio yet during most of this book, those feelings just weren’t there. Towards the middle my hope grew, the sex scenes crazy super hot, yet my disappointment returned when the book ended with what to me felt like a cliffhanger?!?! I was relieved when I received an email containing an epilogue, certain I would obtain closure from that but again, but in the end we are again left hanging! I neeeeeeed more!!!!!!
I must admit I have a love/ hate relationship with love triangles. I thrive on the anxiety they cause me. It’s harder when I love both male characters. But, author Skye Warren captivated me and stole my heart with Harper, Sutton and Christopher. I’m glad she was in charge because choosing would kill me!
The story picks up flawlessly where book one ended and immediately the tension builds. The push / pull between Harper, Sutton, and Christopher is intense. The relationships are complicated amongst them all, not just the romantic aspect. The angst, as expected, is at an all time high.
The Evolution of Man pulled at my emotions. There were unexpected twists and turns that kept me turning pages till the end. It was heartbreaking, emotional, frustrating, and sexy Af! It is a fantastic conclusion to a fantastic story. Author Skye Warren does her characters proud. Definitely recommend this duet.
