'Ours Book 2' *This series is intended to be read in order*
Poppy currently has three theories. The first is that this whole thing is a prank. The second is that she's possibly been poisoned by something and is hallucinating the whole thing. Finally, she has actually been abducted by aliens. She's really hoping it's not the last one.
Poppy has to adapt to her new life living in space, lucky for her she has a set of three alien brothers to help her along. Can she put their differences aside?
*Contains themes of a very adult nature, meant for mature readers only. Warning - alien biology.*
Again, do not understand the harsh comments concerning this book. You definitely have to have read Book 1 to properly place context re. the brothers behavior treating her as a child first. Then their confusion as they realized they had romantic and sexual feelings for her. Her behavior also is understandable as a 19yr old who herself doesn’t have the maturity to understand such feelings as well as her situation. The author clearly states that the stories are best understood if read in order as a series. It’s very unfair to therefore treat each as a stand alone. This was a fabulous story.
2.5 Stars Poppy human h, mates Acer, Micka and Titus Some spoilerish content So while I still enjoyed this book and will get the rest in the series, there’s a lot to critique with this installment. For starters, book one just dropped off without a smooth wrap up. It felt very cliff hanger and just unresolved. It seems like their couples line is wrapped and new human heroines and brother packs will be the focus of coming books. While, I suppose everything that needed to happen in the first book did, it just felt chopped off at the ending. So this book picks up with the other human and brother pack introduced heavily in book one. After book one I felt like I knew everything I needed to know about this group and didn’t want more. So I was disappointed to find them as the focus of book 2. This book did little to move the series along. At the end you can see the angle and projector if the series and this station is going to be a human drop off point....but just overall, I didn’t think this a strong addition. Poppy....oh gah, she was HORRIBLE. She was so wrapped up in herself and not thankful. And frankly, she came off as really immature and stupid. I basically hated her. They were so kind to her, caring for her, no harsh actions and what did she do? She wouldn’t even try to communicate. And when the computer translated she freaked like she was going crazy. Okay, well if she really thought she was she could have at least played along to learn. But nope. She just was rude. Finally after encouraging from meeting Maisy she started speaking to the guys. And this just got SUPER frustrating for a bit. In her mind like half of the book she had given each guy a nickname mentally. So she referred to them that way like DarkTips and Pretty Nose. But then started using their real name and besides Titus, it was like wasaait which is which? It wasn’t a smooth transition. It took too long for her to start with their real names. And the intimacy? Good gosh. Took forever. She acted like some human that lived under a rock without common sense or the internet. Like follow your bodies reactions. What was wrong with her?! Geez. Still the guys did not get to put both to work at the same time. So not sure why the author wrote them having two Ps if they don’t get to use them. The guys were great though! Really liked them. The author is weaving in back story and it appears they’re attempting to long term plot planning over the series and that is appreciated. It’s clear the council had something to do with these guys mate and childs unfortunate loss. That’s right, these guys had a mate and child previously. Really the only saving grace for this not ruining the book was that in book one Maisy pointed out that most of the females probably don’t really love their pack. But these guys did have her picture hanging and thought of her some. That was a turn off for the story.
It’s going to be interesting to see where these series goes. As with book one, I hope the author invests in better covers done professionally. And two, he or she needs to get updates in the back of these books or social media or something to give fans updates.
I didn't enjoy as much as book #1. I had a harder time liking Poppy since it took her so long to adapt to her new life. She was really young and a virgin so that is probably why she's so lost at first. I liked Mika, Acer and Titus...thought they take things really slow. They are widows so are reluctant to be hurt again.
3 stars? 4 stars? I don’t know. I wasn’t planning on continuing on in this series, but I read the first long enough ago that most of my hesitancy vanished. I’m still not biting at the bit to continue, but now it seems inevitable. I feel like I should elaborate on my rating… but I just can’t? They’re good, but I can’t totally explain why I feel somehow an arms length away from them.
Another cute offering in the series, Our Flower is a low stakes romance about Poppy, the silent woman on the space station from the last book. This book is easy to read and enjoyable enough, but nothing distinctive or special.
The romance is...ok. I had trouble feeling any chemistry at all between the triad of brothers and Poppy. I had a hard time understanding what anyone had to be worked up over, because Poppy was self-admittedly terrible the first 60% of the book. Like, grind your teeth at her awful. She's dreadfully self-absorbed, lacks the ability to piece things together that should be fairly obvious given her stated interests (what sci-fi geek wouldn't assume there are talking computers who can translate or assume an automatic shower or flushing toilet is "haunted"?), and has the ho-hum collection of Generic Virgin Traits. (I'm starting to think that non-US/British authors specialize in this breed of leading lady. They are legion in my experience this year. Hey, Brits, y'all OK? Is this how your average relatable woman is, really?) This book was much slower to get to any physical action than the last one, and everything leading up to it was ugh. I want to be excited when people come together, but this book did not deliver. It's only in the final 5% that any real sexy times happen.
The bros were all cute enough on their own (the nicknames Poppy had for them all were great), but they were under-developed and the opportunity to reveal actual details about what happened to their mate and cub—which relates to the outer plot—were missed. The author keep dancing around and teasing with promises of some actual information to be given but never delivered. I wanted to love them more, but there wasn't enough actual them instead of constant obsessing over Poppy. Donut came the closest to an actual personality of the three. His food love and talent for collecting sports injuries were endearing in a way. He's the only one I got much of feel for, and I suspect he is the author's favorite too.
There's an outer plot that is coming out painfully slow (ie, 1½ pages at the very end of the story and a handful of sentences in the actual story that get easily lost in the angst), making me wonder how many installments the author has planned for us. So far we've heard the stories of 2 women, with at least 2 more known to us at this time.
This story is worth a read as long as you're not looking for anything with strong plot development or more memorable characters.
So this was a good addition to the series. This book follows a different group of Poppy, Acer, Titus & Micka. poppy & her cat men are definitely different as far as personalities and struggles go. Their reverse harem romance does have a little slower build up to not times but once you get there they are not and unique to this romantic group. There is timeline overlap where we get to see some times and events from a different perspective. We do get to see Maisy & her guys as well as find out about 2 more women. And we get a little more information/speculation of the problems plaguing the humans. In the descriptions of ways to read this book in order but so far and this might change it seems to me this first 2 anyway could be read our of order with no real spoilers or confusion. I can't wait to see how what we learn at the end of this book plays into the bigger picture. Poppy and her cat men do get an HEA and hopefully we'll continue to see these previous characters and check in with them in future stories. Pretty good quick sci-fi reverse harem would recommend.
Poppy was real, she had many issues, being stubborn and refusing to communicate then being young and shy, kind of blind for the world around her, she didn't understand how she had lunch every day, she didn't speak with other characters, only with her guys and then Maisy. Good thing is that she realised how stupid she was behaving and tried to adjust her behaviour. Sex scenes were interesting even if it's because of the two penises which easily become six if all the guys join The guys as per the last books example's were very cute and trustworthy. Also, they were maybe twice her age so good for daddy issues. The poping of the cherry is not a literal thing - there is no noise. Please, author fix that.
Life’s tough enough as is. Being abducted by aliens is harder. Trying to learn how to start anew in an entirely alien universe, without being able to talk to anyone… it’s proving harder than Poppy expected.
THE BLURB
Poppy isn’t quite sure what to think; she suspects that she’s been abducted by aliens… but she’s not really sure. Maybe she’s just hallucinating or this is some really elaborate prank? But as time goes by, she realises that the room she’s placed in isn’t going away, and the things watching her through the window definitely seem too realistic to be costumes.
Acer, Micka and Titus have been commanding the space-station for quite some time. Things run smoothly and yet life feels… lacking. Unfulfilled. Then one day the station collects some contra-band from a ship passing through, and it’s taken to the medical facility for study. An unknown life form. Even more interesting is that it’s showing signs of being a sentiment and intelligent creature!

SERIES SYNOPSIS
Our Flower is the second novel in the Ours series by S. M. Matthews. It is only 143 pages long, making it half the length of a standard romance novel (at 300 pages).
There is a teaser at the end of the novel that will leave you wanting to read the third novel in the series.
REVIEW
Our Flower features in a universe quite similar to many sci-fi novels; human women have been abducted and then find themselves in an entirely alien world. The world-building itself is somewhat slow, and yet certainly more and more details are slowly being added to the world’s story-arc as the number of novels are added. Unfortunately not too much more details were revealed about the world’s story-arc in the second novel. It was almost vital for the first novel in the series to be read first in order to understand some of the events of Our Flower.
My favourite aspect about this novel had to be the character’s personalities and their character development throughout the book. Unlike most novels that feature a strong and independent women, Our Flower features a younger heroine that clearly suffers from anxiety. So much so that it controls significant aspects of her life and healing throughout the novel. Certainly the novel is focused on healing, not only for the heroine but for the three heroes as well. A focus on recovery from loss and trauma, and learning to find a way to find love and purpose in life once again.
Whilst Our Flower is shorter than most novels, the story progresses nicely with a constant flow that allows the characters to continuously heal and develop at a steady pace.
FINAL WORD
I loved the characters in Our Flower, especially the unique anxiety filled Poppy; it’s rare to see a female lead that’s not entirely independent and strong-willed. The story lacks tension, instead focusing on character development and adding details to the world-arc.
A little slower going than the first one, but still enjoyable. I do have to admit, though, that it wasn't until the later half that I could tell the brothers apart, and even then I only had a clear idea of who Titus was. If we're discussing characterization, I don't think the author did a good job of making each guy distinct like what was done in the first book.
Can I also say that I was a little bothered with how these stories and their plots connected?
Given how it's just casually mentioned right at the end of book one that one of the humans had been charged with murder, I'd figure it at least be mentioned again in this one. However, that's not the case. Instead, the reader is "taken back in time" to when Poppy first wakes up, away from the alien who was selling humans as pets. We go through everything from the beginning, which while nice, I was kind of hoping for a more chronological story that followed the first book. The only saving grace of this was that the author didn't make us go through the scenes between Poppy and Maisy again and instead skimmed over those.
And then book two has a somewhat similar ending to the first one where the reader is given just a sliver information that affects the world, but then it's over with no explanation and probably doesn't really come into play all that much in the next one.
I don't ask for a lot when I read stuff like this, but I wouldn't mind if the author found a better way to integrate these plots threads along with the romance to make a more cohesive story.
I liked the story, even though we learned most of it in the first book, just from a different perspective ;) Poppy was a young adult, if she was British she could be as young as 18, if she was American 21, it wasn't stated clearly, the only clue is that she though about being able to legally drink, but didn't have much time to do so before she was abducted. She was deeply affected by her abduction, she was still living with her parents and a brother, so being stolen from them and realizing that she wouldn't go back to them pushed her into depths of depression. She was taken in by the three Commanders of the space station, and they were amazing. I loved how Titus, Micka and Acer took care of her, even when she wasn't appreciative of their efforts. I got why she was like that, but I was cheering for the guys so much that I couldn't help being annoyed with her uncertainty ;) They were invested in helping her even before they smelled her and felt the attraction. Who wouldn't fall for sweet and caring widowed brothers that didn't live fully since their mate and daughter died, and only realized they were just existing, because they've met and fallen for you? I was a bit disappointed that the overarching plot didn't move forward a bit more. We've only got a glimpse of more of the conspiracy. Also the story of Poppy and her kitties could be a bit longer after they've finally got together, it ended pretty abruptly.
Okay. So I liked that it covered a lot of the same timeline as the first book and we see a younger woman with more to lose from being abducted and how she handles the big life disruption. It did always annoy me that the abductions always seem to happen to young unattached women with no family so it was good to see a woman grieve her life. It felt authentic. That being said, I get why authors don’t do it much. It’s fucking boring to read. Plus. I get that the MMCs also experienced loss so they can help her through it. But none of them seemed that bent out of shape about their last mate and child honestly.
Because of all that it ended up as a super slow burn. Sex at 83%. And the MCs were all a little frustrating in how they handled the relationship development. But I liked the thing anyway. Not as good as the first one, but still good.
I heard the next book is dub con and the book after that has cheating so I think I’m done with the series but I enjoyed these two.
Alien (cat man). Brother packs (MMMF). Virgin FMC. 2 tails (very sensitive). 2 peens. Different peen (ridged). Some OWD (MMCs had a previous mate and daughter who died mysteriously). No OMD. No cheating. No breakup. Epilogue setting up the next book. No pregnancy.

The run on sentences and incorrect punctuation problems are sliiightly less pronounced in this book, so that’s progress. There were some pacing issues, however. Most of this book took place during the first book, and I was ready to jump onto new stuff rather than reread old events from a different perspective. The MCs don’t have sex until the very end of the book (vaginal sex first occurs like 20 pages from the end!).
I also find it so hard to believe that it just never occurred to Poppy to try to communicate with someone. I mean, come on. And then ignoring communicator, because she assumed it was a hallucination?? What reasonable person would think that?
Kinks/Tropes: aliens, language barrier, mfmm, virgin
Thoughts:
I wanted to like this novella more than I did unfortunately. I still like the storyline and the fact that it is multi-POV, but the formatting is atrocious in the kindle version. There are no idents, as well as some grammatical errors.
The whole issue of them viewing her as a child I didn’t really feel. It was more the hesitancy for other traumas on their side while also making sure she was 100% consensual without external influences.
I do agree that you need to read the first book or parts of this won’t make sense. Having read the first book, I can see where this was going. It just wasn’t executed in the best way and made it a bit hard to follow. Won’t be continuing on with the series.
Sooo... I have a new favorite sci-fi Romance series Now. Lol. I’m a bit hooked On the Ours series. the flow for these stories is great the characters in each book are unique and interesting, and the guys are absolute sweethearts who apparently chug a glass of respect women juice on the daily. Also aliens that are well Aliens is always a plus in my book when it comes to my choice in romance novels. On a side note I want to see more of the mystery plot that’s been revealed in each book so far. What did Kita learn that got her and her baby Murdered. What’s the big secret ?! I’m definitely interested in finding out. Looking forward to reading more of this series.

On one hand I really enjoyed getting to know Poppy and her guys and getting behind the scenes of what we knew from the first book. On the other hand it felt incredibly redundant because we already knew so much that was being told over again. I felt like the steam level was less than the first book but still fun. I have a hard time believing these highly advanced guys/aliens are oblivious to the sketchiness unfolding with their Homeworld and just needed humans to come point it out but it still kept my interest until the end of the book, so take what you will from that.
2.5 Stars While I liked this book, I had a few issues with it unfortunately. Firstly, the first 30% or so was just stuff we had already seen/known about from book one. Secondly, everything was moving super fast and I didn’t feel like there was enough time or development spent on these characters and, to be honest, I feel like there are a bunch of odds and ends to their story that are still unresolved. Thirdly, there’s one line towards the end that completely spoils what will happen in book 4 🤦♀️ Like I’m not even sure if I’d want to keep reading at this point because of it.
Notes: I don't know why it took me so long to realize this book is "furry". Either way, I liked it enough, Poppy is a very different character, she has a personality that I'm not used or very fond of if I'm being completely honest. Although she stressed a lot, she didn't do anything too dumb. I liked the subplot that's being happening since the first book, it's interesting enough. I'm not entirely sure if I'll continue reading this series because I feel weird about the furry thing.
So much more makes sense now and yet I still have questions. Why didn’t they use the ribbons? Did they not want to get married according to their custom because of their deceased spouse’s memory? What was that epilogue about? Are the humans infected with something? Who is the girl that was surrendered and what’s her story?
Too many questions, not enough answers. On to the next book.

OMG the story just keeps getting better and better! I'm low-key angry with myself because I put off continuing with this series when I first found it. You would think I'd know better than to judge a book by its cover by now, but it is literally the reason why I put off reading any more after book one of this series. The continuing storyline is intense. You can tell there's some larger conspiracy or intrigue going on, it's just taking a while for it to unravel. Poppy was the opposite of Maisy, so although her story is similar, it takes her longer to get to the cuddly parts. The random reappearance of stray pet humans and their treatment is disturbing, but I'm totally looking forward to reading more in this series!
Another cute, quick read. Story flowed good up until the last chapter or so when it started jumping around abit trying to introduce new characters while finishing off this story and all of a sudden we go from 0 to 100 with this set of characters almost like the author was thought oh I only have a few more pages to finish this book, better get everything in there now
favorite series and writer! i love the characters, and this mystery is KILLING me! what's with the new girl? why does the GC act as it does?!?! what is going to HAPPEN?!?!? I HAVE TO KNOW! ON TO BOOK 3!!!
This is a good series. It's interesting in how the girls are all connected from being abducted. But even though the series is all interconnected it never really finalizes. I wonder if there will be more. Medium Burn - Great sex
Poppy is such a shy, sweet character that you can't help but love. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one and I am looking forward to seeing where this plot with the High Council goes.
Love the double peened cats in the world! It does seem like poppy's story needed more actual communication between her and her three, but with the way her story ended,bi guess that would occur naturally, in time, now.
Just a sweet series. Love the aliens. Great timid fmc coming to terms with her fate. Nice inclusion of a bigger plot. Starting to build a world and the threat. Really good.
so far this is my least favorite book in this series. the heroine wasn't likable, and the steamy scenes weren't as good as in the other books. furthermore, the only hero i liked was titus.

Aaaand, I'm done. The editing is not improving. About 20% of this book is rehash from the last. There's no flow. Each time the POV changes, it's jarring. Plus I disliked Poppy. And worst of all, the overall story is not progressing at all.
