This was an enjoyable, quick, and cute read. I have to say nothing in the story is beyond what one would expect in a romantic comedy but it was still a fun read nonetheless.

The story kind of gave me a mixture of vibes combined from "The Devil Wears Prada" to "The Parent Trap". It was a classic 'chick flick' story that the reader can tell from the beginning, with the introduction of the lies, that it won't end well. When lies are involved, never does it end well my friends.

Parts of this story were fairly predictable from what happens surrounding the auction to the eventual result of the lies but again, the journey getting there was fun.

I recommend this book to those that like lighthearted and fun romantic comedies similar to Sophie Kinsella. It was an enjoyable read and I no doubt believe that the author will have more published in the future.

Rebecca Riley is a personal assistant to Vanessa who owns an event planning business. Although Rebecca has a degree in events planning she is seen more of a dogs body sent to get the coffees and file paperwork.

On the morning Rebecca was about to give Vanessa a folder full of her ideas for an upcoming event, Vanessa has something she needs her to do. She is currently having a weekend home renovated out in the countryside and needs someone onsite project managing and to make sure that the work doesn’t overrun as she has already sent out house warming invitations.

Rebecca knows nothing about project managing but likes to keep Vanessa sweet so she goes. On arrival, the builders mistake her for Vanessa and Rebecca sees it as a chance to be someone different, some ballsy and confident. How long can she get away with people believing she is Vanessa and what will happen to her if the truth comes out?

I just adored The Accidental Life Swap. I found a connection to it straight away as Rebecca lives and works in Manchester (my home town) and there were references to the local area. Rebecca is a lovely young woman who wants to be an events planner but has to settle for being a PA instead. She watches as other people plan events and she knows that she can do them so much better but is afraid to put herself out there.

Once she arrives at Vanessa’s weekend home we see a different side to her, a more confident side. However, Vanessa has been horrible to these builders via email so not only does she have to pretend to be Vanessa she also has to try and make the builders like her.

I haven’t laughed so much at a book for a long time. Jennifer Joyce’s writing is superb. It flows along nicely and has you eager for more. I didn’t want it to end and I would love to see Rebecca again in another book as she is so amazing. The book also features an animal sanctuary and plenty of animals including a donkey who prefers the grass from Vanessa’s lawn rather than her own.

The Accidental Life Swap is the first book I have read by Jennifer Joyce but it won’t be the last. In fact, I have already downloaded another of her books and can’t wait to jump in.

A delightful, quick read that wasn't anything spectacular.

Rebecca Riley is an events manager - or she wants to be one. Instead, she is stuck as a PA to her demanding boss Vanessa, has a stinky, good-for-nothing roommate, and now her boss wants her to undertake the construction of her holiday home in Little Heaton, a town in the middle of nowhere. When Rebecca gets there, she isn't sure how she would ever get the job done. But by accident, she is mistaken to be Vanessa Whitley herself. Utilizing her boss's fiery reputation, Rebecca starts ordering the workers to move up the job and is surprised by the power that her change in name gets her. But things don't go as planned as one lie leads to another and she finds herself in a mess... and maybe in love.

The premise was very promising, but I thought that what the book had in concept, it lost in its execution. Rebecca's character has very little characterization. There was nothing distinguishing her from Rebecca as pretend-Vanessa or the real-Rebecca. Another thing I wasn't impressed by was that most of the characters are stereotypical embodiments. Vanessa is made out to be this feisty hot-tempered boss, but we don't actually see her living up to her bad reputation. Her character is over-exaggerated, which made the whole thing unrealistic for me. On the other hand, Rebecca's flat mate is the sexist, dirty guy, and to think he didn't notice her absence for three weeks says a lot. The only character I liked was Stacey's. Oliver was fine as a love-interest, but I wished there were more dialogue and confrontation between Rebecca and the rest of the workers after her true identity is out.

Most of the plot was very predictable - the romance subplot, Rebecca's career turn, Emma's development, Vanessa's turnaround - everything turned out exactly the way I anticipated, and this predictability made it uninteresting. Overall, while the writing is definitely unique to the author, the story is your average contemporary romance. If you're in the mood for a light comedy, you would love the book.

Accidental life swap was lovely countryside romance that revolved around Rebecca who accidentally got a chance to live her boss’ life. It was about believing in yourself, have confidence, stand up for yourself and don’t let others pushover you, and for that you only need inner strength and talent are always there, not a false identity.

Characters:

Rebecca had degree in event management but worked as PA for Vanessa, at her event management company. She was timid, lacked backbone, and let everybody pushover her. I didn’t appreciate her lies. She could manage the work she was assigned but looking at those builders and previous project manager’s work, Rebecca needed Vanessa’s confidence and intimidating demeanor. In achieving what she wanted, she hurt friends. But she developed into a confident and strong person by the end of the book. I must say she was very talented, she just didn’t get opportunity to prove her worth before (I should say she didn’t have courage to take the opportunity) and when she got her chance she rocked. I actually liked the way she rectified her mistakes.

I’m fiery female fan and she was far from that. But I know there might be some who are like her. Let me tell you her lack of confidence didn’t make her weak, she was just nice and didn’t know how to stand up for herself.

Oliver was nice throughout the book. He didn’t hesitate in speaking his mind. Fake Vanessa’s intimidating demeanor didn’t affect him and I like him for that. I also liked his childish side, his board game obsession and confessions while playing it.

Stacey, Oliver’s sister, and her animal sanctuary were amazing. I liked Stacey’s fiery nature. You wouldn’t want to be on her bad side but would definitely love her as your friend.

Vanessa was rich, selfish, horrible, and a tyrant boss. She did all in her power to get what she wanted and even fired her staff unreasonably. But her transformation at the end was biggest surprise.

I liked all builders and people of Little Heaton. All characters were well developed and well described.

What I Liked-

Book was beautifully narrated in meek Rebecca’s voice which was not that refreshing but definitely realistic. Writing was great, easy to read and follow with amazing setting. Picturesque countryside, Little Heaton, Vanessa’s holiday home and animal sanctuary took the center stage here. You cannot not notice quirky animals and their name in this book especially those feathery chickens and wandering donkey. I grew to love them all along with characters. When we are in countryside, how can we forget gossips and close relationship between people… and romance. There was right amount of everything friendship and betrayal, family drama, heartbreak and disappointments.

Plot was equally interesting. Book started with Rebecca’s inner rant on how grimy and disrespectful her flatmate was but all in her head. She never, couldn’t confront him or anyone. You seeing that first paragraph of synopsis? It exactly describes Rebecca. She couldn’t even say no to Vanessa when she asked her to oversee her holiday home renovation in impossibly tight deadline. When she reached countryside and at Vanessa’s home, she met builders who mistaken her and thought she was Vanessa. She couldn’t rectify it quickly, in fact she enjoyed the respect she got, influence she could have on workers, and confidence she channeled through her mistaken identity but then she didn’t plan to fall for one of the builders and thus started all the mess.

I thought this false identity cannot last long, the game will be up pretty soon but I was surprised to see Rebecca managed to keep it secret for so long! She had many occasions to reveal the truth, but she kept the dodging it as she desperately wanted to finish the job within timeline, get a promotion and be in the team of event management-her dream job.

Rebecca and Oliver’s slowly growing friendship and romance was kind of cute. Who would keep playing board games rather than taking their fantasy for each other one level up! But we know them best when they played these board games, we see their other side that they managed to keep hidden from others. Rebecca’s problems with her family and Oliver’s past love life was among those hidden side.

Expanding idea of animal sanctuary, unexpected visits to check the progress of refurbishment, office gossips and some disappointing news made the story interesting. Some twists in the second half, though predictable, were quiet good. I could guess what will happened next most of the time but I must say I couldn’t guess that twist in the end.

Climax was intriguing. I liked Rebecca’s ideas and the way things were set up. That last visit from Vanessa and all events afterwards were wrapped nicely. End was perfect. Epilogue was most interesting.

If you ignore predictability and Rebecca’s lack of confidence, which was tiny lil bit annoying in the beginning, this story is definitely fun and enjoyable.

Overall, it was fun, light-hearted, fast paced and cute countryside romance. This book checked all the boxes I want in Women’s Fiction and Romance. Thumbs up!

There is something about chick-lits from the United Kingdom that really makes me happy. They manage to cheer me up even when I am in this current mood of ‘fuck romance, it’s dead and doesn’t matter’. And I can’t help but feel hopeful.

So, yes. Hello. Here I am with yet another romance/chick lit and it’s a really good one folks.

Rebecca Riley is a Personal Assistant at a swanky events management company and is sick to death of her current role. She is also quite tired of sharing a flat with her odious roommate who eats his own toenails for breakfast. Rebecca works hard, is a team player, and has had enough of being shoved to the background when she knows she has the skills to be an Events Manager. The day that she is about to ask for a promotion from her bitchy, overly tanned boss Vanessa is the day that life throws another curve ball at her. Vanessa needs somebody to finish overseeing the construction of her beautiful property in the countryside and Rebecca fearing for her job and also thinking this might be the in for a promotion agrees.

Of course nothing is that easy. Day one and the entire village of Little Heaton have mistaken Rebecca for Vanessa. Rather than clear the air and truthfully reveal who she is, Rebecca decides to go along with the charade because after all, how could she ever get the impossible task done being herself? Rebecca is in for a whirlwind of events, emotions, and getting the renovations done to this house. Can she do it all without being found out?? Find out on the next episode of Dragonball Z!!

Okay, so I’ve read a lot of chick lits and have watched a ton of Korean dramas to know immediately that Rebecca girl…You have fucked up. This book is a known cliche but it works and it works wonderfully. I laughed so much while reading this and grew to love the array of characters.

Rebecca reminds me of me. Strong willed but flusters easily? Check. Not great with conflict? Check. A multitude of daddy issues?

Triple check.

So, while I wanted to yell at Rebecca for not giving up the charade sooner I completely and utterly got it. The romance that sparks between her and a certain bootylicious man is absolutely so sweet and organic. What really got me though was the progression of Rebecca’s character. She does so much for others and rarely receives acknowledgement or thanks and that really hit home for me. Nothing like a cute chick-lit to tell you that you need to better yourself!

“You let her walk all over you, and you’ll always let people walk all over you.”

Overall, this is a fun novel full of laughter and fun and makes me wish I too could live in the country surrounded by animals who like to frolic into my yard. I did feel as though the end was a bit rushed and some loose ends weren’t wrapped as neatly as I hoped (what the hell happened to Nicole exactly?). But at the same time I like that it had a natural progression and this makes me want to read more from Jennifer Joyce in the future. So, if you’re looking for something lighthearted, funny, and sweet this is the perfect book for you!

Thanks very much to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest and fair review.

I'm starting to get tired of this trend of 'if a girl acts like perv not only it's okay but it's actually funny!'
First of all: this is the type of book that demands a lot of suspension of disbelief.
That Rebecca would just do what Vanessa wants even if it is clearly not part of her job or connected to it (ie: Vanessa is not a tyrant, if Rebecca was to be unjustly fired on the basis of not wanting to agree to do an 'outside job' for her boss). Then again Rebecca can't be all that smart as she then believes that it's a good idea for people to believe that she is Vanessa and that they will understand if she reveals later on that she isn't (where is she living? the moon?!).

What really annoyed me was that Rebecca thinks it's perfectly okay to sneak a photo of a builder's bum as it is a very good looking one so that she can then send it to her friend. The narrative tries to make it so that she is aware that she was being a bit of a perv but it's okay since he then quite rightfully acts in an unfriendly manner towards her (so he deserved it?!).
Do pervy, clueless, air-heads make for sympathetic or realistic main characters? Not really.
If we were to switch their genders in that scene (so that it is a male sneaking a photo of a woman's bottom, a woman he does not even know or has even seen before)...not so funny right?

Another thing that I noticed was the lack of logic: the builder catches our protagonist red-handed and believing that she is his employer (who he knows is an unpleasant person by her reputation) tells her: "I'd thought you'd be more rottweiler than chihuahua" (which leads us to believe that he is not that threatened by her or her authority over him) before then telling off his mates for not warning him of her arrival as "I could have got myself sacked up there just now".
If he was so worried about meeting Vanessa wouldn't he have avoided comparing her to a dog?

The book is also full of lazy stereotypes (like the taxi driver who pats his stomach and talks about his 'missus') that don't really come across as funny or clever takes on real people. There is Rebecca's housemate from hell (who is an exaggerated take on the lazy, smelly, sexist housemate)...Vanessa is an amalgamation of 'devil' bosses found in The Devil Wears Prada and My Not So Perfect Life

My advice is to skip this one!

The Accidental Life Swap is such a cute fun read. I love stories where people switch places. I think we all wonder what it would be like to be somebody else. The grass is always greener on the other side, right? These characters are likeable, sympathetic and entertaining. I can relate to that feeling of having a life that's just not good enough. I feel the heartache of realizing your life is not actually as bad as you thought. Even though this story is formulaic, the lessons contained within are timeless and profound. Appreciate what you have because the lives of people you envy are not as wonderful as they seem. I enjoyed this story for its fun factor, relatable characters and warm hearted message. Definitely add to your tbr!

Very enjoyable story about discovering what you are truly capable of, even if it takes partially impersonating your boss to do so.

For Rebecca Riley has a massive confidence problem, she dreams big, but ultimately seems to be lacking a backbone to stand up to anyone. Hence why her boss Vanessa forces her to suddenly become the project manager for her new property in Little Heaton.

Rebecca is normally Vanessa's PA at an events management company and dreams of stepping up to be an event manager, but first she needs to make sure the renovations are done in time for the house warming party, and standing up to a group of builder.

Due to a slight misunderstanding on first meeting the builders they believe she is Vanessa, and suddenly Rebecca is channelling her inner Vanessa.

What I really enjoyed the most about this book, is the animal sanctuary that is next door to Vanessa's property. There are some really adorable animals in it, and Stacey and Oliver who run it are key people that I loved getting to know. Any scenes involving the sanctuary are just a joy to read.

My other favourite bits are the series of board games the Rebecca and Oliver play, being a board game fan myself. I would have loved to have joined in with them, as I'm as competitive as them both!!

On the whole this is a lot of fun, and the main hook of how long can Rebecca keep up the pretence and what will happen if the truth comes out, is very enjoyable and kept me reading on and on.

A really entertaining novel from the always pleasing to read Jennifer Joyce.

Thank you to HQ Digital and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.,

First of all I need to say that 3 ⭐️s isn’t a negative review from me.
I enjoyed this book, I thought it was an easy read, great for holidays or a palate cleanser.

I just thought there were a few frustrating or cliched moments that stopped this becoming a favourite or the type of book I harp on about for weeks on end.

This is set in Manchester and Cheshire which I love because it’s close to home, I love the references to places I live near and found that very satisfying 😊

I loved the overall plot idea, and thought that the scene setting and characters development was great.

I did find Rebecca’s tendency to be a doormat quite frustrating, but understand that was her character, and I’m glad she got over it and moved on.

I loved the secondary characters and thought they added a lot to the story too!

This is a book about finding yourself, albeit through a misunderstanding and pretence, and finding out what you want to do in life and going for it.

One thing I found problematic was when our protagonist went to take a photo of a labourer’s bum to send to a mate whilst his back was turned when she’d never met him before. I found that unnecessary and made me dislike her a bit.
If a guy did that to me I would be pissed off and feel objectified 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I do find it hard to get past things like that when they annoy me.

If you’re looking for a quick, easy read about someone who gets themselves into a bit of a pickle and finds out about themselves a bit in the process then this is for you!
Lighthearted and funny with some great northern locations 😉

3.5⭐ rounded up

This book was a cute, fun read that I devoured quickly. What I loved about this book:

▪︎I loved the picturesque county side setting and the loveable local animal sanctuary. The variety of animals was eclectic, and it sounded like an absolutely charming place. The names of the animals were hilarious (the chicken named Chow Mein 😂) and the wandering donkey made me laugh a time or two.

▪︎The characters of the small town of Little Heaton were so enjoyable and easy to like, and I especially enjoyed Oliver and Stacey. I also loved how the story shows a bit of Rebecca's whole life so you get to really connect with her character and I found her struggle to stand up for herself relatable. She may have made mistakes along the way, but she tried her best to right her wrongs and be the best version of herself possible.

▪︎The slow burn romance was a nice change of pace after my last instalove romance book. The friends to lovers trope is one I find quite enjoyable and this one definitely didn't disappoint.

What kept me from giving the book 5 stars?

The book was a bit slow to start and a little predictable. While I still really enjoyed this one, it isn't a book I'll find myself thinking about after finishing it. This is perfect for anybody looking for a light fun book to help you escape reality for a bit and leave you with a smile at the end.

Who are these people? Has the author even met or spoken to a real person?

Paper thin characters that are stereotypes rather than actual humans. I couldn't relate or bond with any of them, especially Rebecca. She was weak willed and made poor choices. I started to think maybe her boss Vanessa wasn't as bad of a person as Rebecca was describing. It's that old adage, "If everyone around you stinks, maybe it's you who stinks."

Rebecca is a flighty, meek, submissive, and self-conscious person who's innocent till the risk of appearing dumb. She works as a PA to Vanessa, who owns an events management company. She is sick of her role as a lowly PA and is more than ready to use her skills and talent in the actual creative side of the business. Too bad for her, she is almost invisible to her boss.

“I’m a wimp. A great big wuss. A sissy pants without a backbone.”

“Rebecca Riley is spineless. She’s afraid of her own shadow and never, ever sticks up for herself.”

That’s Rebecca for you in her own words.

Upon careful deliberation and after much practice, she finally gathers the courage to talk to her about her upcoming plans. All her optimism and dreams for a promotion go right into the drain when instead of listening to Rebecca, Vanessa packs her off to work on a refurbishment project at her recently purchased house.

Rebecca has absolutely zero knowledge about building, construction or anything even related to that. Things get further twisted when she is assumed to be Vanessa herself by the builders working in the house. Now, Rebecca is well aware of her almost nil sense of authority and takes this identity confusion as a blessing in disguise. Soon, she finds herself in the shoes of chic, polished and professional Vanessa living a life away from the hustle and bustle of the city and romanticizing about charming Oliver.

Vanessa already has a reputation among the workers owing to her being Vanessa. She gets cold shoulders and icy looks wherever she goes and things are none too different with sweet Oliver. They both soon move forward from there and develop a sort of friendship. Chemistry between Oliver and Rebecca was rather lukewarm. There were a few sparks here and there but this flickering of romance was rather brief. I believe there wasn’t the sort of connection between that would make anyone even slightly dreamy.

Moments where Rebecca developed a close affinity with the builders and people of the quaint little town with her random acts of kindness were quite nice. This identity confusion later turns into a crisis and Rebecca soon finds herself facing the repercussions of her deceit.

Throughout the book, Lee, Rebecca’s roommate has been an invisible presence hovering over her, who played no role whatsoever in the development of the story. There were a few times when my interest was waning in the story with Rebecca constantly channeling her “inner Vanessa”. It soon turned dull and wasn’t even remotely amusing. And what’s with that style of writing? All those lines in italics and unnecessary font changes hurt my eyes and rattled my brain.

Story was predictable and there weren’t any unexpected twist and turns in the book. Overall, this was a light-hearted fine read to engage yourself for a while. Nothing to keep yammering about.

Rebecca has a degree in events management, but has been the general dogsbody a little bit in awe of her take no prisoners boss, who can’t even get her name right. That’s ok in Rebecca’s book though, as she’s certain to get the promotion that’s coming up – and then she can make the impression that she’d hoped for. But, being called into Vanessa’s office isn’t quite what she expected – she’s to ‘oversee’ the renovation of her boss’ country house – and Rebecca doesn’t bat an eye.

She arrives – people think she’s Vanessa, she’s justifying her not correcting them by “feeling” more confident and able to act in ways that are against her nature. Of course, she’s enamored of one of the builders – and even acts inappropriately – despite her own reservations, and we’re meant to think that a ‘harmless’ shot of the man’s rear-end, shared with a friend because it’s ‘so’ shareable is ok? Were it a male character – he’d be crucified – but there is still a way to go when the reverse is true, apparently.

Becca – for me – was hard to relate to and even harder to enjoy- from her mercurial switches to what she thought was “confidence’ but simply came off as a bad imitation of the much more bitchy Vanessa, to her lying about her identity and genuine belief that when everyone realizes she’s lied and duped them that it won’t be a problem. It’s just a few steps too far into suspension of belief. And while the story was easy to read, it was unevenly paced and full of contradictions in Becca’s personality that had me ready to put this down more than once. Many of the characters were stereotypical and flat for it, and while there were laughs, the story was so untethered to reality that it flew by with barely a squeak – some will love it – others won’t be so intrigued, but I’m not sure it would encourage me to read more of this author’s work.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

The Accidental Life Swap by Jennifer Joyce features Rebecca Riley, a woman who’s life gets turned upside down due to a misunderstanding.

Rebecca is a bit of a pushover. She works as a personal assistant to Vanessa, a glamorous woman who runs an events planning company. Rebecca wants to be an events planner–what she got her degree is–but doesn’t know how to make a name for herself in Vanessa’s circle. She’s undervalued and overworked.

But soon Vanessa needs Rebecca. Vanessa needs a project manager to oversee renovations on her lavish country home. Rebecca knows nothing about construction project planning and knows she in way over her head when Vanessa asks her to take on the role.

Vanessa is confident and bold–everything Rebecca isn’t. The construction crew mistakes Rebecca for Vanessa, and the simple misunderstanding gives Rebecca an idea: how about she pretends to be Vanessa for a while?

What could possibly go wrong?

I wanted to love The Accidental Life Swap by Jennifer Joyce but unfortunately I didn’t. While it was entertaining and fun to read, much of it was nauseatingly predictable.

The characters in the book were fairly basic. Rebecca was the main character, but I never really got to know her. This book scratched the surface of character development and never went in deep.

I enjoyed the romance in the book. It was cute. It was sweet. And while there was never a big fireworks moment, I enjoyed following the progression of Rebecca and her love interest.

Did I mention this book was predictable? As soon as any one event happened, I knew immediately what was going to happen next. There were no surprises or deviations from the cookie cutter script.

That said, The Accidental Life Swap by Jennifer Joyce was still a cute read. While I can’t say I highly recommend it, if you’re looking for something light and fluffy, this book might fit that need.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing the Kindle version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Accidental Life Swap by Jennifer Joyce is a delightfully amusing contemporary novel about the power and dreams and discovering your unique identity.
We all have dreams – dreams keep us focused, striving towards our goals. What happens when we are so dream focused that we cannot see the reality around us?
The novel explores identity. We all have a unique identity. We cannot be someone else. We need to be happy in the skin we are in. If we try to assume another’s identity, sooner or later we will have to come clean.
Jennifer Joyce has created a wonderful mix of characters. One elicited a feeling of dislike, whilst others I warmed to immediately. The underdog will always get my vote. Feelings of insecurity in a character appeal to my maternal side. There were some warm exchanges between characters. The village setting was community based.
An animal sanctuary nurses the abandoned back to life. An old house is renovated and a life is transformed and restored.
The style of the novel is engaging and highly amusing. It is a light-hearted look at life that welcomes the reader in.
Jennifer Joyce has created a marvellous novel that not only entertained me but consumed my every waking moment. When I was not reading, I was wondering how the characters were getting on! – And that is the power of the pen of Jennifer Joyce, I believed her characters were my friends. How about you? Pick up a copy of The Accidental Life Swap today and immerse yourself in the Cheshire countryside and the lives of the people there.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

A really interesting listen for me. A simple story but not predictable. You keep wondering when or even if their lives will swap back!

Thank you to NetGalley for a Kindle ARC of The Accidental Life Swap.

Events management graduate turned PA Rebecca has been slaving away for her tyrant boss, Vanessa, for three years.

When an opportunity arises to demonstrate how capable she is (and deserving of a promotion), Rebecca accepts the challenge to oversee Vanessa's country home renovation, even though she has no experience.

But, by a quirk of fate, Rebecca is mistaken for Vanessa and unwittingly, becomes someone she's not; hard-nosed, aggressive and a taskmaster.

As she settles into country life and catches the eye of a hard-working, kind man, Rebecca wonders if being someone else is all that's cracked up to me. And that being yourself isn't so bad after all.

The Accidental Life Swap is a formulaic story, a country version of Working Girl, with all the tried and true tropes; a passive main character who is overlooked in her family and job learns to stand up for herself; the handsome, honest man she falls for who likes her under the guise of mistaken identity.

Let's not forget the frenemies in her professional circle, the strangers who become friends and the climatic scene when the heroine takes a stand and owns up to her mistakes and her life.

There is romance and some Mean Girls moments, typical chick lit rom-com scenes, and witty repartee between heroine and man candy but its all done in good fun (minus the Mean Girls).

Of course, there is a happily ever after, but not before the finale, the dramatic moment when the heroine faces up to her boss.

I liked Rebecca and understood her.

I sympathized with her plight, being overlooked in a thankless job where her true talents are underused and feeling she has never measured up, not in her family and not in her life.

I enjoyed the country setting, especially the animal sanctuary and the efforts that the characters took into preserving and developing this incredibly vital project.

This was a predictable yet enjoyable read because you know what's going to happen but you still want to know what happens.

The writing flows and most of the characters are likable. My favorite characters were the animals.

I recommend The Accidental Life Swap to anyone who enjoys reading a feel good book.

It's good to read something like this once in awhile, more so when you like the characters.

As much as I wanted to love this book, I couldn’t give it more than 3 stars. Now, I knew what I was getting into with the life swap and all. There was no way things wouldn't go wrong for Rebecca after pretending to be Vanessa, but the book became so predictable with it. And I'm not someone who hates when things can be predicted either, but this was just painfully predictable. Rebecca would constantly try to rationalize her lies, and before she did finally confess to everything, I felt like I I already knew how it'd go down. The whole time, I was really hoping Jennifer Joyce would surprise me by doing Rebecca's confession differently, but sadly that didn't happen.

There were also times when I so wished, despite loving her as the main character, that Rebecca would grow a spine. As “Vanessa,” she’d get treated poorly by almost everyone around her, including by her own love interest, builders, and “Vanessa’s” neighbors, and Rebecca would roll with it. Add to that the REAL Vanessa treating Rebecca like she was the dirt on her shoe and Rebecca’s extreme slob of a flatmate making her home life miserable. There was even a twist with a co-worker that made things even worse for Rebecca. All throughout the book, Rebecca did so much for other people, especially Vanessa, and yet she could barely catch a break. When she did, the book was nearly over.

Although it was frustrating to have all of that, I still managed to enjoy this book and loved everything about the animal sanctuary! There wasn’t a lot of romance, but it was really cute when it finally got going. The end was my favorite part in this book, however, because Rebecca finally got to be happy. If it weren’t for Joyce’s writing, I would’ve had a much harder time with this book. I could picture everything happening whenever there was a special event, from the food to the music and activities, and Joyce captured that small town feel extremely well.

Rebecca longs to be like her confident, forthright boss, Vanessa. So when Vanessa handpicks her for a special project, she's thrilled. Less so when it turns out not to be an event - they are event managers, after all - but overseeing the refurbishment of Vanessa's house. Mousy Rebecca is sure she can't manage a team.

Until she arrives, and they mistake her for Vanessa and immediately get to work. Oops? But it won't matter for a little while, surely! What can go wrong...?

Shades of Sophie Kinsella in this hilarious contemporary novel. Poor Rebecca gets herself very confused over the course of the novel, but like in all the best stories, it works out in the end, even if not quite the way she thought it would. Her supporting cast is great, too...Franny might be my favourite, but it's hard to tell!

This is the perfect read for someone looking for something quite light and easy.

‘Tonight’s been really fun.’ Oliver stoops to kiss me on the cheek. It’s an unexpected gesture and I feel heat creep up my neck and start to engulf my entire face. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow.’

‘Bright and early.’ I adopt a mock-stern tone to deflect from my reddening cheeks.

With a wave, Oliver heads across the drive, and I think about calling him back for one more confession. What would he say if he knew I remembered my attempted kiss after all? But I do the sensible thing and close the door, keeping that particular can of worms firmly shut.

What a light and entertaining read. Something I have been craving recently.

Rebecca is meek and mild but longs to be confident and self-assured like her boss, Vanessa. Desperate for a promotion from Vanessa's PA in the event management company she works for, Rebecca is thrilled when she is chosen for a special project. Not so much when she finds out she will be overseeing the refurbishment of Vanessa's second home.

The builders mistake Rebecca for ballsy Vanessa but immediately begin work, soon making up lost time. They wouldn't have done that if they knew who Rebecca really was! It won't hurt if they are not corrected, will it? What could possibly go wrong?

This cute read spoke volumes to me. Being both a PA and currently refurbishing a house, I was nodding and laughing along enjoying the story.

Yes, the characters didn't have much depth. Yes, there were some predictable moments. But I thoroughly enjoyed this light and easy read.

Perfect for someone looking for an uplifting, fun, cute book. I'd fully recommend.

This book will be available in ebook form on 1st September and in paperback on 12th December.

Rebecca Riley has been Vanessa Whitely's personal assistant for the past 3 years and is tired of being a pushover. When Vanessa gives Rebecca the task of overseeing the renovation of her vacation home, Rebecca jumps at the chance to prove herself to her boss. Rebecca arrives at the house only to be mistaken for Vanessa by the construction workers, and seizes this opportunity to work on being more assertive.

While the cover and premise of the book interested me, I couldn't continue reading no matter how hard I tried. Rebecca is supposed to be relatable and probably a little pitiful at the start of the book, but the narration goes a little too far and makes her extremely frustrating to me. I think it's also safe to assume that her love interest is Oliver, and while I definitely enjoy a good enemies-to-lovers trope, they're introduced when Rebecca tries to sneak a picture of Oliver's butt to send to her friend, and that's a hard pass for me.

Rebecca Wiley has always been a pushover - she lives with a roommate who she's afraid to confront about his disgusting habits. However, she really wants a promotion at work, so when her mean no-nonsense boss Vanessa asks her to go manage the renovation of her house for a month in the countryside, Rebecca jumps at the chance to prove her worth. While overseeing the renovation, one of the workers mistakes her for Vanessa and she decides to go along with it so she can channel her inner Vanessa to ensure the renovations get done in time. What harm could a little white lie do, right?

While reading this book, I found myself skimming through a lot of it because the plot is so predictable. Most of it was just Rebecca talking to herself and trying to prove she's capable of doing bigger things. My favorite parts were of her bantering with Oliver while playing board games. The rest was just okay for me. I think if you want an easy read with a predictable plot, this is a good pick. If you want more substance, I'd pass.

I begrudgingly got through this book. I fell asleep so many times trying to finish it. The writing was not engaging at all and the story was utterly boring. None of the characters were developed well, like Rebecca’s roommate seemed like a cartoon character. Her love interest didn’t even make sense - he was her “employee” but was talking back to her all the time...who would do that in real life? And the oddest thing was that Rebecca is so meek in her own life and then she comes to this new situation and all of a sudden she can turn on an assertive personality... like why can’t she do that in her own life then? Even the ending was not satisfactorily resolved. Without getting into spoilers, it just felt like the author thought “what’s the quickest way I can wrap up this book?” and did exactly that. Skip this book. I gave it 2 stars because I give 1 star to books I DNF.

The Accidental Life Swap by Jennifer Joyce is the story of Rebecca Riley, personal assistant to Vanessa. Her life takes a wild turn when she is sent to oversee the renovations of Vanessa’s new country home. When she is mistaken for her boss, she goes along with it, not realizing the chaos that this case of mistaken identity could cause.

I got through this book, but I can’t say it was all that enjoyable. The characters all felt one-dimensional and stereotypes. The ending was basically the fastest way to wrap up the story without grappling with any of the issues. Rebecca is supposed to be the underdog, but honestly seemed like a bad person. I didn’t feel bad for her, especially since most of her issues were of her own making. I’d give this book a pass.

If you're after a sweet, slow burn romance then this book is for you. This was a quick read, that I found really engaging and enjoyable.
I really liked Rebecca as a character and enjoyed watching her grow in confidence as she pretended to be Vanessa. As sweet as the romance between Oliver and Rebecca was this book was mostly about Rebecca changing into a assertive, confident badass. The supportive characters were awesome and Little Heaton is somewhere I would love to visit!
Watching Oliver and Rebecca battle continuously over board games was really entertaining and reminded me of my childhood.
This book was extremely predictable however it was interesting and engaging enough to be a page turner.
