Ninja Kid and his sidekick, H-Dude, are back to save the day. The Shaw Family Circus are coming to Duck Creek and they’re allowing some locals to be part of the performance. Kane and Nelson are working hard on their act.
I’d recommend reading these books in order, especially as there are some spoilers from the first three books in the series included in this one. Grandma Pat is still my favourite character; hopefully she’ll be present more in the next book.
As usual, Jeremy Ley’s illustrations bring all of the fun to life. I love all of the literal humour in his pictures. In this book that included Nelson’s heart in his mouth and an avocado Kenny.
Now I just need to sit here looking patient while I wait for Dr Kane to unleash his next evil scheme upon Duck Creek.
In the background, awesome, gorgeous, quirky Grandma Pat has been working on a new invention to help thwart Dr Kane, who hasn’t been seen for a suspiciously long time. She just knows that he’s been hiding out, working on a new evil scheme.
The circus has all of the imaginative acts that I’ve come to expect from Anh Do’s books. The animal performances are funny and cute. I loved the singing horses and trampolining goats. The dancing rhino was definitely the standout act though.
Sarah and Tiffany have more page time in this book and, true to form with heroes in disguise stories, they are still clueless as to their friends’ secret identities and their mysterious disappearances every single time the heroes appear.

Ninja Kid is terug! En dit keer hebben we veel circus en robotdieren!
Ik was helemaal enthousiast dat er weer een nieuw deel in de serie was! En blij dat de bieb hem ook vrij snel kreeg zodat ik hem snel kon lezen. In dit boek is het circus in de stad en er is iets leuks samen met het circus. Een wedstrijd! Iedereen mag een act opvoeren en de beste mag hem zelfs op een avond in de dierentuin doen. Ik vond dit stuk heel leuk om te lezen en ik vond de act die ze uiteindelijk met zijn drieeën deden erg tof (al misschien een beetje saai omdat de jongens er maar een beetje bij stonden). De winnaar? Tja, te verwachten en een tikje jammer. Plus, ik wist al meteen wie die vreemdeling was. Maar gelukkig was het circusstuk erg leuk en ook hoe alles misgaat vond ik erg spannend om te lezen. Ik vond het nog mooier dat niemand door heeft wie die superhelden zijn (terwijl ze alleen maar een ander pakje en een masker op hebben) XD.
Oh, en die uitvinding van oma? Mag ik die? Ik zou wel willen weten wat mijn hamsters te vertellen hebben. En misschien kan ik dan met andere dieren ook praten, lijkt me echt tof!
Ik vond Kenny in dit boek echt ON-UIT-STAAN-BAAR. Mijn hemel zeg. Ik vond hem al semi tot heel irritant in de andere 3 boeken, maar hier? Echt mijn hemel. Constant probeert hij indruk te maken op een meisje die hem veel leuker vindt als hij gewoon normaal doet. Meerdere keren moet zijn beste vriend hem iets in de mond duwen om te zorgen dat er geen geheimen worden verklapt. Ik snap dat het moeilijk is hoor, maar kom op, iets meer je best doen? Ietsje meer? Alsjeblieft?
En tja, ik weet niet hoor, ik had toch ondertussen wel iets gehoopt van een hint of iets meer over de vader. Ik bedoel is het echt een tweeling? Of is Dr. Kramer eigenlijk vader die gek is geworden? En als het een tweelingbroer was dan weet hij toch ook dat de volgende Ninja Kid zijn neefje gaat zijn dus waarom gaat hij dan niet gewoon langs? Tja, na 4 boeken had ik toch iets meer gehoopt, het begint ondertussen een beetje te voelen als monster of the week alleen nu wat haalt Dr. Kramer nu weer uit? Het wordt allemaal een beetje hetzelfde, alleen dan met een andere uitvinding. Ik weet dan ook niet of ik wel verder wil lezen. Ik zie dat er in het Engels 7 delen zijn…
Dus ja, een leuk deel, maar of ik verder lees? Niet zeker. Misschien dat ik even in de bieb/boekenhandel door het boek blader om te zien of we iets meer antwoorden krijgen als er nieuwe delen zijn.

Време е за четвъртата книга с главен герой Нелсън и неговите перипетии. Поредицата е страшно увлекателна и едва ли някой бъдещ нинджа ще пропусне удоволствието да научи що е то справедливост и защо трябва да пречим на лошите да вършат безобразия. Малките читатели са страшно впечатлителни и лесно биха се поставили на мястото на един от героите. Да не забравяме другите проблеми. Около Нелсън щъкат и други деца, всяко от които си има характер и е намерило начин да се справя с предизвикателствата по свой начин. Важните неща тук са комуникацията, приятелството, добрите практики и личният пример. Все пак това не е учебник и забавлението трябва да е на макс, така че Ан Доу се е постарал всичко да протече като едно приключение. В „Момчето нинджа: Да си нинджа, е супер!“ („Кръг“, 2023, с превод на Юлия Спиридонова) вече няма чудене относно това как се управляват нинджа умения, защото Нелсън Кейн е станал достатъчно добър и знае какво трябва да направи. И това е чудесно за него и лошо за големия враг на всички в градчето.

We love this series! Our library only had #1 and #2, but I was able to order #1-4 from a Scholastic book order. It looks like 5 and 6 are out but expensive on Amazon. My 7yo son loves reading these himself and then listening to me read them. I love the characters. Yes, they're predictable, but they're a great option for young readers!

Ninja Kid is great book for children from the ages of 7+
I grabbed this for my son when it was first out and recommended at QBD.
My son adored it! so I thought I would give it a quick read myself!
Its very very funny!
the language level is great for children to practice or learn new words.

Action and danger happen at the local circus this time. Dr. Kane has upped his game and brought in robotic animals to rampage through town. Nelson and Kevin enlist Sarah and Tiffany's help to rally the real circus animals and defeat Kane and his evil sidekick. Humor and adventure combined.

4.5 Simple, no-fluff fun.
I also appreciate how the author is able to build the character of his characters (main and side) in such a low cost manner (i.e a simple line or action here or there went a long way like Sarah being polite and cheering for the bully).

Nelson, Kenny and their town audition for a circus in town but a dancing Rhino steals the show but its circus performance causes havoc for thos in attendance and Granny's latest invention comes in handy.

Another good book in this series. Great to see the female characters, Sarah and Tiffany, get more time and a role in saving the day. The animals were a great addition too. My question is, who and where are Kenny’s parents?
