I am loving this series - the Modern Princess Collection. The Right Princess by Autumn Archer is a fairytale rendition and loosely based on The Princess and the Pea. In Right Princess, we meet Ada who is head over heels in love with her best friend and roommate Kitty's brother Cicero. Ada has always been a spoiled princess and friends wanted to get close to her due to her parents' wealth. Once starting at college, she decided not to tell anyone about who she was and got a job at the local bar The Reef where her new boss Theo becomes one of her closest confidantes. We see that of course, Theo is head over heels in love with Ada but her eyes and obsessions are fixated on Cicero. Especially since she has been told that to inherit her family's company Rarity she must marry someone as wealthy as her. We have a lot of back and fro'ing with a love triangle between Ada, Theo, and Ro. I was wondering how this book was going to be related to The Princess and the Pea but about halfway through you start to see little easter eggs relating to the original tale. I have to admit I did get frustrated with Ada as it was like hurry up and tell Theo how you feel and then Theo at times was like a spoilt little kid himself with the occasional tantrums he threw. Overall though I did enjoy Right Princess and now looking forward to reading the other books in the Modern Princess Collection. Fans of Fairytales and those who love renditions and variants of the stories will love Right Princess by Autumn Archer.
Before I dive into my review, here’s some information about this new series:
“Modern Princess Collection - Once upon a kiss, a modern romance becomes a fairytale.
The prestigious Camelot University comes fully equipped with elitist guys, a castle, and a Glass Ball, but these self-proclaimed princesses don’t need crowns to prove their worth. They’ve taken love and life into their own hands and written their own fairytale. The ladies of Cam U are a dangerous combination of cute and badass, full of attitude and imperfections, and coming of age secrets. Follow seven of your favorite fairytale heroines as they find their happily ever after, in these standalone, contemporary romance novels.
The Collection includes:
* Sonya Jesus’s emotional, contemporary romance about an imperfect girl and her scars will chill you in this modern version of "The Snow Queen."
*Lauren Helms’s straight-laced girl meets a bad boy in this "Rapunzel" retelling, full of innocent first love, music, and just a little illegal hacking.
*Autumn Archer’s modern "Princess and the Pea" retelling follows Ada in her search for the right guy.
*Lynn Steven’s version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”combines military romance, sweet love, and a rebel heart.
*Clare Lesbirel’s bookish Roma princess is torn between the perfect guy and the boxer in this contemporary "Beauty and the Beast" retelling.
*Tasha Lewis’s story, based on the history of Pocahontas, revolves around an ousted outdoors girl, in love with her best friend.
*Cam Johns’s suspenseful, modern version of "Cinderella "has twists at midnight and love on every page.
All of this, I did not know before reading “Right Princess” – Goodreads let me know that a new series was coming, the titles caught my eye and even though I don't ’t think I've ever read most of the authors before, Autumn Archer and Clare Lesbirel have been recurrent presences in my chosen ARCs and reading history overall. So I just knew I had to check it out. I didn’t even read the blurb, I jumped straight in.
I’m also super curious about Clare Lesbirel’s "Beauty and the Beast" retelling, since that is my favorite fairytale/princess/Disney movie of all time. Belle’s library and what not. :D
Now, on to the review.
Autumn Archer’s writing-style is so rich, beautiful and distinguishable that I’m pretty confident that I'd be able to recognize it anywhere: her descriptions are excellent; elaborate without ever feeling tiresome, repetitive or with one single once of padding.
And then, when you least expect it, she’ll throw you a passage so magnificently meaninful, deep, eye opening and romantic, that you have no choice but to stop, read it again, absorb it, hightlight it and – if you’re me, you also immediatly start thinking of the best way to display within a teaser.
“Right Princess” is the story of Ada: a girl with a huge crush on her roommate’s brother Ro Huxley, who happens to be gorgeous, popular, rich as her father would prefer, dating something else already and almost completely unknowledgeable of Ada’s existence.
Then there’s BMF hotAF Theo, towards whose Ada´s developing feelings must be kept secret from in order to not ruin their friendship.
But what happens when you finally get what you always wanted, only to realize that maybe you were wrong the entire time? What will Ada do when she realizes that perhaps she already had everything her heart desired, only with a man different from the one she used to daydream of?
Will she risk the perfect friendship while persuing somethign more?
I got to admit, there were times when I wanted to shake Ada out of her Ro induced fog and give her one big shove that would land her straight into Theo’s arms, but I always ended up understanding her side: that’s lust for you. Lust and the side effects of a prolonged, cultivated crush on someone that you think, someday might just look up and finally see you, realizing that you’re all he/she ever wanted.
Fairytales, am I right?
Well, I didnt say they didn't exist; maybe our focus is just off, that’s all.
You know that ol’e “I was happy and I didn't even know it” thing?
Yup, it happens more times than you think. We can become so fixated on what's supposed to be happening and what we’re suposed to get that we don’t recoginze what we already have. Until we lose it.
This is such a beautiful story: just like most, if not all of Autumn Archer’s books, I cried my eyes out for the bigger part of it and it was so freaking worth it.
I highly recomend checking out more of her work – I promise you won't regret it.
In the meatime, keep an eye out for your fairytale. If you've already found it, you're one of the lucky ones.
i enjoyed this college story about Theo and Ada, and this friends to lovers story, sometimes i just wanted to smack both their heads together especially Ada, but all prevailed in the end, i give this story 5 enjoyable stars *****
While attending college Ada is a princess in hiding as she wants to surround herself with people who want to be around her for her and not for what she can do for them. She has always known what would be expected of her when it comes to the man she spends the rest of her life with and her roommates brother Ro seems like the perfect choice except for the fact that he doesn’t see her as a woman.
Theo is not only her boss but her best friend as well. He wants to be much more than friends however her attention is focused on the wrong man. Will she follow her heart and realize which man is her destiny before she loses what could be the best thing to ever happen to her.
The characters draw you in and although their journey wasn’t without it’s obstacles it only made the ending that much more satisfying.
This was another solid offering from this series! Ada and Theo are best friends. Ada has a crush on her roommate's brother Ro and can't see what is right in front of her. Her parents want her to marry someone appropriate and she has decided that Ro fits the bill. There is a lot of push and pull on both characters' part and at times both needed either a hug or a slap upside the head. Their story is cute and sweet. I really enjoyed reading their story!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
Right princess by Autumn Archer. She has an epic crush... on the wrong guy. A brilliant read. I loved the story and some of the characters. Ada was my favourite character. I liked Theo too. 5*.
The Modern Princess Collection is going along so good so far! I absolutely loved Right Princess it was a bestfriend to lovers fairytale romance, it was a fun and super fast read! Theo was dreamy and swoonworthy! Ada was a quirky princess and l loved them together!
This is the first book I’ve read from Autumn Archer. It’s a fun, quick Princess and the Pea inspired story. This is a friends-to-lovers, everyone can see it but them, mild steam romance. Ada is in lust with her roommates brother (Cicero) while ignoring the fact that the right guy for her (Theo her best friend) has been in front of her all along. Ada, Theo, and Cicero drove me nuts with their tantrums and inability to communicate - this kept the angst level up throughout the story. Seriously, you’re going to want to shake these characters for being too stubborn to just sit down and talk to each other. Overall, I liked the book, recommend it to readers who enjoy friends-to-lovers, and I will read more books from Autumn Archer in the future.
In this modern retelling of The Princess and the Pea, Ada comes from a very wealthy background - even though you wouldn't really know it at face value - and she is totally in lust over her roommate's brother. She seriously obsessed over him a ton, which was annoying at times, but her head-over-heels-in-lust with Cicero manifests in a way that I wasn't quite expecting but wasn't totally mad about.
Then there's Theo, her talented and supportive best friend who is more than meets the eye - in lots of different ways. Their chemistry is evident from the beginning, but it takes some random circumstances to really bring things full circle. Once they got it together, I really enjoyed the story and how they both find their happily ever after.
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. This series is wonderful!
Ohhhh the I loved the curvy (secretly rich) girl who lusts after the hot older brother of her roommate. She was so down to earth, cute and likeable. Her journey to love had its twists and turns and it is a must read!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The only problem I had with this one, was that I hadn't read the two previous books. I love Mrs. Archer's stories and this one also didn't disappoint. I loved Theo and Ada's work banter, they were both wonderful characters. Theo was so sweet to her. A must read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ada and Theo drove me bonkers. Theo may have been Ada’s prince, but he sure acted like a toad many times though this story. Sure, he was trying to get Ada out of his head, but he was needlessly cruel more than once. Had he simply stopped and listened to Ada, he would’ve known where her head and heart both were. Instead, he acted like a spoiled, immature brat. Funny thing, he acted just like Ro, who I couldn’t stand.
All of the characters in this book were flighty and immature much of the time, and only Ada truly redeemed herself because she was actively trying to communicate with the selfish Theo. That said, I’d still read this author again because she sure brought the irritation and angst, so it was a well written tale of people who needed to pull their heads out of somewhere to see the sunshine.
Love this retelling. Autumn Archer's unique writing style shines through in these pages, and despite it being different than her usual suspenseful novels, it's still so dang good! You can't go wrong with Archer's ability to capture romance and tension and angst. Theo is a heartthrob and I loved getting caught up in Ada discovering herself and her heart. Such a good coming of age story, perfect for YA and NA lovers.
This was a good book. The characters draw you in and keep you reading to see how it will all play out. I received an ARC for a voluntary, honest review.
This was a love triangle between Ada, Theo and Cicero. Ada had to figure out who she really love. I liked this book and watching Ada finding out who she loved.
Get ready to meet the lovable Ada & her sexy best friend , Theo. Ada doesn’t see what’s right in front of her, the person who always cheers her up , the person who always makes her smile , the person she always turns to ....... the person that is deeply in love with her , Theo . When she does finally realise , is it to late ? .
Loved this story . Wanted to hug Ada & slap Theo .... I do love a book that stirs my emotions
3.5 This book is part of the Modern Princess Collection and the first that I have read by this author and I didn't know what to expect. This book is a quick read and is kind of a fairy tale read and has all the love you need. This book is retelling of the princess and the pea and is a sweet read.
This is book #3 in the collection.
Ada has always had money but now she just wants to be normal and doesn't want anyone to judge her for her wealth. So she gets a job at the local bar The Reef and this is where she meets Theo who is also her boss. Theo becomes one of the people that she feels like she can talk to and trust.
Theo is a really good guy and hell do anything ton help Ada in any way he can especially as his feelings grow stronger for her. Theo has feeling for Ada but she s totally blind to his feelings and all she can see is her own for Cicero. She is so much in love with her best friends brother Cicero that he is all she sees.
The characters in this romance book all just need to communicate, they all were a tad immature sometimes and made you just want to bang all there heads together. This book is a quick romantic, friends to lovers story that is a quite sweet to read and a will they wont they get together. But I did feel some parts were a tad predictable and a tad rushed. Although the author has written a good romantic story that of you love fantasy romance then you will love this book. ARC provided in exchange for an honest voluntary review. A cute fantasy romance read. This book is out now.
This book was an interesting re-telling of "The Princess and the Pea". Ada is the daughter of famous jewelers to the rich and famous and is told that she must marry a man with at least as much money and prestige as she has. Her favorite color is green, she is a bartender and her best friend is Theo. Ada is a student at CamU and works at the Reef, she is deathly afraid of open water and she thinks she is "in love" with her roommate's brother, Ro. Theo is always looking out for her as Ada is very accident prone. He even tries to help her overcome her fear of open water so that she can go to a pool party that Ro's girlfriend is throwing. At the party, Ada is thrown into the pool and is rescued by Ro, who then winds up kissing her in the dressing room. Ada is confused and runs to Theo where she proceeds to get so drunk that Theo has to take her back to his house. They share a kiss, then Ada gets sick and the next morning she wakes up in Theo's bed with a bag of peas in her hand wearing Theo's favorite t-shirt. At first she only remembers her kiss with Ro, but days later she remembers that she also shared on with her best friend. Now Ada is really confused and torn and while she tries to sort it all out, her relationship with Thorn gets damaged. You will have to read the book to find out if this "princess" gets her prince charming and her HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Autumn Archer has written a 5-star book that is the story of Ada and Theo. Ada is from a wealthy family and she is at college but she doesn't want anyone to know who her family is. Ada works with Theo at The Reef Bar. She is roommates with Kitty and Ada has a thing for Kitty's brother Ro. There is a time when Ro kisses Ada and when she tells Theo about it he gets upset. Ro has an on-off girlfriend and he doesn't really notice Ada. Theo is in love with Ada but has not done anything about it due to her thing with Ro. There is a misunderstanding between Ada and Theo and he tells her he is leaving and at work he has changed to days so they don't work together. This has Ada really down. She asks Theo to go to the ball with her but he tells her that the bar is throwing his going away party that night. She and Kitty go to the ball and she decides she doesn't want to be there and just as she is leaving, Ro stops her to talk. As they are talking Theo comes in and sees them and turns around and leaves. Ada goes after him but she can't catch him. When she finds him they have a talk and she tells him how she feels about him and he does the same. Will Ada and Theo realize they are perfect for each other? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the third book in the Modern Princess Collection. Each book is its own story, the common thread is the location of CamU. I enjoy reading the Modern Princess Collection and look forward to the next book each time I finish the current one.
I have read the first 2 books and loved them. This one was not quite as wonderful in my opinion. Although, others will love it. I felt like Ada was too undecisive. She thought her roommates’ brother, Ro, was her true love, she kissed him and felt like all was right in the world. Then she goes to her best friend Theo and tells him all about it. The problem? Theo has feelings for Ada and knows that the roommates’ brother is entirely wrong for her. There were many times that I wanted to shake Ada, wake her up, and make her realize that Ro was not what he seemed. Theo was the one for her. She needed someone to call her out on her mixed-up feelings and make her realize that her soulmate is right in front of her eyes.
I would still recommend reading this series. They are fun twists with fairytales woven into their story.
If you expect to meet spoiled princess, crying for attention and being commanding and having servants, you'll be truly disappointed. What you get is refreshing story about rich girl wanting to live somewhat normal life, working and studying hard.
The story was rather sweets, maybe a bit naive but actually learning through experience. Ada has crash on her room mate's brother Ro.
Theo is Ada's boss, her best friend and totally into her , which she isn't aware of. Or is she? Maybe she just doesn't see the signs and anyway he is not the type her father wants her to marry one day.
When she finally get kissed by Ro, she is happy but her imagination was probably well more perfect than the reality. After getting drunk she wants to know how it would feel to kiss her best friend....
The story is beautifully twisted, with turns sometimes not in the right direction but in the end everything is going to feel like a fairytale.
I am a sucker for a good fairy tale re-do. This is my first exposure to Autumn Archer, and it just so happens to be a retelling of the old Princess and the Pea fairy tale. Autumn attends college, works as a common-person despite coming from a rich family, lusts after her roommates older brother Ro, and has a hot best friend, Theo. The angst caused by Autumn's indecision made the story deliciously entertaining. I loved the push and pull of her own mind as she works her way through her personal drama - living up to family expectations or following her heart. She was obliviously naive in the best way, that had me want to shake her sometimes. Each of the characters are built in such a way that I was loving the drama caused by the "secrets" they all try and keep from one another. I love how the story's perfectly imperfect ending. I will definitely read more by Ms. Archer.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Secrets, Impatience, Misintereptions, Miscommunications, Misunderstanding, and Regrets leads to finding the Right One
Right Princess, Book 3 in the Modern Princess Series is the Retaliation of the fairytale, The Princess and the Pea. Ada, a third-year student at Camelot University hides her identity and works part-time at The Reef. She has an uncontrollable crush on her roomie's big brother Ro. The bar manager of The Reef is her best male friend. She struggles between her attraction towards her BMF and her crush until she realizes the right one.
So far in the Modern Princess series, this book was the first to reflect the life of a real princess, who makes mistakes, finds herself in a confusing love triangle with two bad boys, and leaving the ball to run behind the right guy. She is also ready to give up her everything to have her fairytale ending.
I liked this book, it was from one person point of view, so what we come to know about the male protagonist is the from the words of Ada only. His true feelings and emotions go unknown, so I give this book a four-star rating.
Right Princess is the story based loosely based on The Princess and the Pea. Ada is a girl who has very wealthy parents who are well known as well which always has her wondering if people liked her for her, or her parents money. So, when she went to college, she became a regular girl, not telling anyone who she is, and even got a job at a bar. Theo is her boss, and her BMF, but he has feeling for her. However, she has eyes fixated on her roommate's brother, Cicero, though he barely knows she exists. This definitely made for some serious push & pull between the three of them, however, I got tired of Ada not facing the truth, and even Theo, for acting like a spoiled brat. However, this was a story that kept me glued to the pages which would have earned a 5 star rating except for Theo doing something gross & offensive in the extreme in my eyes, and Ada allows it, so I got very angry since it was close to the end. Don't take my word for it, hit those one click buttons to decide for yourselves! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I absolutely loved this story! It is a fantastic friends to lovers romance between two very entertaining characters, Theo and Ada. The story is fast paced and utterly delicious. Theo and Ada have a wonderful friendship that is cute and quirky. Ada had me laughing out loud with her obsessions, her quirkiness and with how clumsy she is. She reminded me of myself when I was her age.
At times Theo and Ada will frustrate you to no end! They may have you screaming at your kindle wanting to bash their heads together. I mean come on get it together you two!
This story will take you on an emotional journey through obsession, passion and steam. It will captivate your heart and entertain you throughout. Such a fantastic and sweet love story!
Ada is head over heels in love with her roommates brother ‘Ro’. Problem is he has a girlfriend. Theo... Ada’s Boss and BFF is totally in love with Ada. But she can’t see past Ro and has friend zoned him hard. Thus begins our little love triangle which comes together at a pool party Will our friends take it to the next step or will Ada follow what she thinks it is she wants because that is what daddy expects of her. We don’t always see what is staring us directly in the face. Will it all work out fo4 the best. A cute retelling of the classic Princess and the Pea. I was given an ARC but voluntarily chose to review
I loved the characters Ada and Theo. They worked together and were best friends. Neither one wanted to admit they cared more About the other person than just friendship. Ada was so fun and easy to like. She goes to CamU and works at the Reef bar with Theo, who is also her boss. Ada thinks she is in love with her roommates brother Ro but Ro is going with Fia, Drama Queen. Ada figures out that Ro is just a player and not for her and that she really loves Theo. Ada thinks that she has to marry someone who is rich. Ada’s mother likes Theo better than Ro and encourages Ada to ask Theo to the dance. Another great story around College and really life.
Thoroughly enjoyed this read involving good girl, Ada, who is lusting after her roommate’s older brother Ro; he doesn’t see her as an equal, wouldn’t mind fooling around with her though, once he’s seen her in a bikini.....
Ada’s best friend is Theo, and unknown to her, he’s quite attracted to her, and doesn’t like the apparent interest going on between her and Theo.
The road to romance is a bumpy one, this is no different, both Ada and Theo have feelings, they’re not vocal about who they’re for, so of course, there are misunderstandings and unintentional events taking place.
You’ll love The Ball - it culminates in everything we hoped would eventually happen.
I Give this Book a 3.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 3. I received an ARC from Author for an Honest Review.
HEA(?): Yes Romance: 3.5-4/5 Heat: 3-3.5/5, it’s on the lower spectrum. This is a New Adult Romance. Suspense: 3.5-4ish/5 Drama: 3.5-4/5 No Spoilers.
The book was pretty good, I do wish that it was a bit longer cause I don’t know how I feel about the ending, it does feel a bit abrupt and too easily resolved. Otherwise I did like this, I would say for me that this a very good palate cleanser read between heavy reads. :)
