After the untimely death of her grandparents, Cynthia was propelled into becoming a guardian to her younger half-sisters, Penelope and Charmaine. As they all lived under the tyrannical rule of their drunken mother, she constantly felt that this wasn’t the life that she was meant to lead. She dreamed of one day her mother becoming sober enough for her to remember that she once loved her children. Unfortunately, that day would never come, and her heart would harden with each cruel comment from her mother.
It wasn’t until her freshman year in college that she would find someone who did love her, as she deserved. Who would liquefy her hardened heart, to find the giving soul that has been hiding from her mother’s tirades. It was then that Cynthia would investigate her mother’s past, to find answers to who her mother has become. The answers that would come in the dead of night. Midnight Princess.
A standalone, opposites attract romance that will have you ready to turn the next page.
Cam Johns began her career as a published author in 2016 with the release of her first book - Arousing Consequences - to the three-part series, The Arousing Series. However, actually publishing wasn't part of her plan. After her husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she found that writing became a great way to relieve the tension and mounted pressures that come with watching someone she loves suffer from such a harsh diagnosis. It was her husband that pushed her to share her voice, regardless of how erotic that voice would become.
Live. Love. Laugh. A well-known mantra that has become her way of living. Live, by accepting the things you cannot change. Love, the ones closest to you as if there's no . tomorrow. Laugh, each day because sadness will get you no where!
As I write this review, I say goodbye to a fun series that I have enjoyed reading. The Modern Princess Collection written by various authors each featured a fairytale and turned it into a modern-day university romance tale. All have been good reads and enjoyable as you read the authors' interpretations. Our last book in the collection - Midnight Princess by Cam Johns is based on Cinderella. We have our main character Cynthia who has been busy raising her two half-sisters as her mother is abusive. She has captured the attention of one of the hottest and wealthiest guys Ashton Preston. Can Cynthia balance a romance and looking after her sisters? I did like the added extra of when we find out about Cynthia's background and who she is, I just wish that we had more of a storyline and that this part had been furthered. It felt like we finally learned the truth about Cynthia and her sisters and then it was over and there were no real consequences. I did love Ashton's mother though as for a society wife she had acceptance and love about her that shone through the pages. If you love fairytale renditions and have yet to discover the Modern Princess Collection, then what are you waiting for?
This was a really good read. The story was well written a gripping. You had to feel for Cynthia and yet you had to admire her strength. I liked Cynthia and Ashton as a couple. They had good chemistry and I found it very easy to feel the connection and pull between them. A powerful combo of twists, drama and emotions hold your interest and ensure you want to keep reading. Part fairytale and part harsh realism, I thought that this was an excellent read. This is my volitional, candid review.
Cynthia Kellan has been plagued by nightmares for as long as she can remember. It's always the same recurring one that keeps her from getting any real sleep. She also has a mother who is always drunk and belittling her and her two younger sisters. With all the responsibilities left for Cynthia to handle after the death of her beloved grandparents she now gets her sisters Penelope and Charmaine bathed, fed, ready for school and back home again all while going to school herself. Ashton Preston is from a powerful family and there are certain expectations that come from that. Like certain traditions like football, school ,working for his father and dating the "right" kind of girl. Cynthia and Ashton have gone to the same high school and now college but other than that they have nothing in common. She has stayed to herself and took care of her sisters and worked hard to survive. He has always been popular everybody wants to be with him, played sports, partied and never wanted for anything. For the first time in her life she agrees to go out and have fun and her life will change forever. Over the course of a few weeks big secrets are revealed, an exciting romance begins to bloom and her life will never be the same.
Opposite attract romance with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.
This book started out good. It is a modern day sort of retelling of Cinderella. I love fairytales adult style. Wink. It has a lot of intrigue mixed in with its sexy. Holy heck though what happened to its ending. It was a huge disappointment that a big secret is revealed and in a couple paragraphs, yes PARAGRAPHS it ends.
This story barely gets three stars because of the first 75% of it. Otherwise I wouldn’t be recommending it. Let’s hope it gets written as a full length novel someday because it has a lot of potential.
Midnight Princess is one of my favorites in this Modern Princess Collection series. It had the perfect mix of drama and a touch of steam. Ashton and Cynthia were certainly meant to be. Lots of unexpected twists and turns that kept me on my toes.
This cool revamping of Cinderella was full of surprises right up until the very end and I couldn't put it down. It starts with a 16yo Cynthia waking from a reoccurring nightmare to find her beloved grandparents dead and realizing that she and her sisters are back at the mercy of their drunk and abusive mother. We then fast forward four years to Cynthia being a mother to her sisters while holding down a part time job and going to college at CamU all while still dealing with her mother. Cynthia would love to be able to just enjoy life as any normal college student, but doesn't believe that it will ever happen. Little does she know that her Prince Charming is just waiting for the right moment to swoop in and hopefully make some if not all of her dreams come true. Ashton is mainly attending CamU because fascination with Cynthia. He is the son of a very prominent family of lawyers with a shady past of being involved with the Mob. Ashton finally gets a chance to talk to Cynthia when his twin sister invites Cynthia to a girl's night out. That night is full of surprises for everyone involved and then when Ashton takes Cynthia and her sisters home later the next day he witnesses first hand just how bad things are at her house and he rescues Cynthia and her sisters. Things sort of even out and Ashton and Cynthia explore their feelings for each other however it all comes to a head at the Glass Ball. You will have to read the book to find out what surprises are in store for Cynthia and see if she and Ashton can find their way to a HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Cynthia, the Cinderella in this retelling of every girl's fantasy is the last and final princess of the Modern Princess series. In this version of the Midnight Princess, instead of a stepmom, it is an abusive mom and her Prince identifies her for a cause. Ashton, another football player from CamU and son of Lawyer Preston, is the Prince of this Cinderella, who has wanted her from the very first day and the one time she ever talked with since High school. Ashton and Cynthia's story is completely different from the original, he is the one who always loved her without the make over for the ball (Well, there is the famous Glass Ball of the CamU and the makeover, but just for the custom not where he first falls for her) and the who can go to any extreme to protect her. He supports her and also find her real identity. I liked the way they love each other and I also liked the way how Cynthia is protective of her sisters and how Ashton is also protective of her and her sisters. I loved reading this book and giving it a five star as this was not the stereo type retelling of the fairy tale.

Good story and some good characters. It's sad this is the last book. I didn't want it to end. 5*.
This was listed as book 7 in the series, but you could start here and be fine...it's a standalone book. The author does an amazing job of grabbing the readers attention and never letting it go. The reader becomes a part of the story and becomes instant friends with the characters.
The story of Cynthia and Ashton is a good one - who would have thought that the "nobody" girl would grab the attention of the rich jock...a chance drop off shows Ashton that Cynthia needs his help as do her sisters and Ashton shows the three of them what a real family should look like...There are plenty of edge of your seat, mouths open muttering of WTF?!? and Did that really just happen?!? but in the end the author redeems themselves...
A looping, twisting, curving, roller coaster of a read - Don't hesitate to add it to your TBR list today! This reader will be going back to read the previous stories in the modern princess collection!!

When her grandparents passed away Cynthia found herself with more obligations than any person her age should have but she is not about to walk away from those who need her the most Ashton comes from an affluent family where appearances are everything and with parents who have planned every aspect of his future.
From the outside looking in these two are complete opposites but they are drawn to each other in way that neither expected. As they become closer the chemistry between them escalates but their pasts and their present are on a collision course that will shake both their worlds to its core.
As individuals Cyn is strong and cares deeply for those she loves while Ashton knows that Cyn is his destiny and will do whatever is necessary to protect her and keep her safe but as a couple they are magical.
Cynthia's life went to hell when her grandparents dies since she had to take up the slack as a teenager from a super evil mother who didn't want anything to do with her & her two younger sisters. It means that she's had absolutely no personal life until she goes to college. It's there that she meets Ashton, who wants her from the moment he meets her, but it's not an easy journey since she has trust issues plus all the responsibilities. Oh, and there's the little matter of him being from one of those affluent families who maps out their kids futures, so you already know that Cyn won't make the cut. I'm not sure why it was slow for me at the beginning, and I stayed confused for a minute, but Midnight Princess did take off so I was turning pages like crazy. Anyway, decide for yourselves, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
OMG...Cinderella for the win! That's really all I can say, but for me, Midnight Princess was the best of the best of the Modern Princesses series. It definitely had some of the best drama when it came to the characters, especially at the end. HOLY WOW!
Cynthia and Ashton are a pretty great couple, though Ashton was a bit creepy in how he felt about her from the start.
This one really has a unique spin on Cinderella. I love that Cynthia's sisters were in no way, wicked. I also loved her loyalty to them, when she could have tried to have her own life.
I really don't have the words for this one, but if you are looking for a wonderful retelling of the Cinderella story, look no further. Heck if you just love New Adult romance...this is a book for you.
The stuff that you find out in the end just blows this book off the charts.
Midnight Princess by Cam Johns is the seventh and final instalment of the modern princess collection, like the others, it is stand alone so can be read by itself.
The story is a modern twist on Cinderella and I could tell that almost immediately, Cynthia’s character definitely gives off the Cinderella vibes. I loved the story, it was sweet and sexy in all the right places and then had a major twist towards the end. The only problem I had with this story is that I felt it ended too suddenly, there was this huge buildup and then it was all explained in the last couple of pages, I felt like it could have been made a bit longer and gone more in depth.
Overall I really enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend it to others.
⭐⭐⭐1/2 - A charming retelling of Cinderella! Midnight Princess was over much too soon for me. A fairy tale with a dark twist, this was a great addition to the series. It really pained me to only give this 3.5 stars, but the story line felt way to rushed, making it hard to swallow for me personally. I enjoyed the premise behind the story, but I feel it would've been given much more justice if it was a full-length book. I'd definitely give it another chance if it was written into a longer story, so the characters relationships could be more developed. I loved the sisters and her fierce protection of them, but overall, it was just too much story squeezed into a novella-sized book.
♥️🌼Midnight Princess🌼♥️ MIDNIGHT PRINCESS is about poor, abused, beautiful Cynthia and hot, wealthy, popular Ashton.....Actually, Cam Johns has given us a modern day Cinderella story...with a twist...and I didn’t realize it until I sat down to write this review...♥️🌼 Cynthia has been too busy raising her sisters, going to school and working to have a social life....Ashton comes from wealth, some of it with mob ties, and he has always had pretty much what he wants.....Ashton wants Cynthia...He’s been in love with her for a long time, and.....Ashton is the perfect Prince Charming....I loved this book...♥️🌼
This was a really unique retelling of Cinderella and a really wonderful story to read. It was gripping and intense right from the start. Cynthia and Ashton have great chemistry and a intense connection. There is lots of drama, emotional ups and downs and twists and turns that will keep you captivated and highly entertained. There are times that this story will break your heart but then will mend it back together again.
Holy moly this is a good book. So many puzzle pieces are laid out throughout this story , and you are definitely kept on your toes while you are trying to piece them all together. The clues and details are there , some I guessed , and a couple I didn’t .
I absolutely adored the characters of Cynthia and Ashton , there are also a lot of others characters that I really liked .
This was another solid offering from this series! The story is a modern day telling of Cinderella. Cynthia's grandparents passed away and she was left taking care of her two sisters and the house. Her mother is mean and abusive to her. Ashton is rich and wants Cynthia as his own. He literally becomes her Prince Charming. Their story was one of insta-love and it was so worth reading! I really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for the privilege of reading this book! Well done ❤️
This one was my favorite. It sounded like a little of Cinderella and Rapunzel combined. It left me wanting more. Cynthia is why and keeps to herself but is plagued by a nightmare that keeps her from sleeping. Ashton is the rich hot playboy who has been pinning for Cynthia from the first time she yelled at him in high school, years later he is ready to claim her. Great storyline with wonderful characters.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
I was confused when I read the prologue, but once I kept reading it made sense and I feel in love with Cynthia. I just want to give her a big hug, I know how it feels to have a parent “hate” you but not the way she does. She is such a strong lady and I really admire Cam Johns for writing her character the way she did. I will definitely be reading some of her other work.
Modern day story of Cinderella. I have said this and will say it again; I am loving this series! The only issue I had with the story is I was left wanting more. There should be an epilogue to tie everything together. Other than that, I love Cynthia and Ashton. Their story have me all the feels and even had me crying. 💜
Loved this series of Princess stories. Cynthia and Ashton make a great couple and team. Ashton helps Cynthia find her really parents after learning that the women she thought was her mother is not. Her mother drinks too much and doesn’t really take care of Cynthia and her two twin sisters. So glad for a happy ever after for the three sisters. Can’t wait for the next series.
This is a great modern twist on the Cinderella story. I love the twists taken to make it unique and the chemistry between Cynthia and Ashton was amazing. It's a sweet, opposites attract story with secrets that add to the allure of the story.
This was my first book by this author. It's a quick and easy read. I would like to have had a bit more of the backstory early on especially for our hero, but I always like more of the story. Overall, a nice addition to the collection.
Loved this spin on the Cinderella story!! Cynthia and Ashton are great together. Cyn goes through an abusive life only to find have her mind blown in the end! I was totally shocked with the ending!! Definitely recommend reading!!
A captivating read from beginning to end! An exciting storyline that leaves you breathless wanting more! Sexy steam filled chemistry! Emotionally heartfelt, enjoyable and fun! One heck of a twisted, intense rollercoaster ride! An amazing must read!

This one was a little bit more darker and heartbreaking than the others. It also had some crazy secrets to reveal. It also showed that someone maybe known as evil can have a good side to them. This was a unique retelling of Cinderella and her sinful Prince Charming.
