Psychic Academy #1

Psychic Secret

Rate this book

All I wanted to do was survive exams and graduate high school. Too bad that all blew up in my face - literally.

Apparently, I have psychic powers and I am very bad at controlling them. After two run-ins with dangerous villains that scare my destructive powers right out of me, I get brought to the Psychic Training Academy - a government run facility meant to help people like me become “useful”.

Now I’m caught between my old normal life and my new crazy one. During the day I have to study for exams and at night I need to train in hand-to-hand combat…oh and try not to fall for my two sexy sparring partners.

When a Rogue psychic starts wreaking havoc, I join in on the fight. When my best friend gets kidnapped, it gets personal. I’ll need to discover what my powers can really do if I want any chance to win.

Great YA book. I think teens and young adults will love reading this book. I did feel that the book needed to be proof read better, but otherwise it was good. Bianca is a nerd and not sure what to do after college. One day she is told she is psychic and needs to go to a Academy for psychics. She was adopted so never knew who her parents were. She meets Ryland and Luke and feelings start. Daniel her life long friend has feelings for her, but she does not return them. What will happen at the Academy? Who is after her? What are these feelings she is having for the boys? Can the boys save her from herself? Can she really do the things that they say?

I received this book as an Arc copy. World building was incredibly well done, and character building was exceptional as well. The storyline and plot lines were both well developed. The story follows a young girl just entering college and finding out about her psychic powers, and how to control them. Heat scale was a slow burn that gradually increased into a full burn as the story continued. The violence scale was medium. This storyline was fast-paced, and action-packed continuing throughout the entire book. It takes you on a wild ride twisting and turning throughout never knowing when a surprise is going to pop out and startle you. This is a page-turner that you cannot put down. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series. I highly recommend this book to those of you that enjoy fast-paced action-packed storylines that keep you glued to the turning pages. I thoroughly enjoyed this book which when I began it I didn't really think that I would, but it took a hold of me and hooked me until the very end.

Bianca suddenly finds out she has telekinetic abilities and finds herself at a special F.B.I. Academy for kids with psychic powers. She meets two students and sparks fly for her between both. Then things start to go wrong.

This was a great first book in an paranormal academy book. The characters are interesting, full of personality and with strengths, secrets and weaknesses. They draw you into the story. In fact I found it difficult to put the book down. The storyline flows smoothly and flies by with all the action, betrayal, surprises, emotional drama and the budding love triangle. The narrative is great adding a sense of the scenery, emotional insights and character motivation. For Bianca, this was an emotional journey as she was thrust into a new world, given new abilities and struggled with homesickness and attraction between two young men. This kept me engaged in the book until the end. I liked this book and think it is a wonderful introduction to a very promising new series.

Given the paint by number young adult fantasy romance description, I knew this was a indy pubbed title even before I checked the publisher. I'll give credit where credit is due and the cover looks pretty good but the author clearly has no idea how to format dialogue. Which is like writing 101. When writing dialogue it goes --
"Character makes some remark." He shrugged.
Or
"Character makes some remark," he said.
Every dialogue tag the author used a period which only applies if stating the action afterwards. A comma is used to describe how the comment was made. He said. He joked. She whispered. And so forth.
I read a few pages and bailed. A number of people seemed okay with it, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

Promising YA PRN

2.5 star rating.

This is a new author I've yet to read from. This is a PRN YA book. This is of course book one of the series.

The storyline itself is promising. I did enjoy it. Major complaint why it had a low rating is due to the massive editing needs. There are constant incomplete words such as "he" instead of "the". The author also have a bad habit of using past tense words for the sentence making it a hard to read as you constantly need to correct the wording to have the sentence make sense.

Overall, I like the path the author is going with the book and am going to try and read the next installment. I really do hope the editing has improved.

Okay idea

The idea is well thought out. Doesn’t sound like a girl as the protagonist though. The worst think was the editing and spelling pulling me out of the story. The plot ending is too predictable.

I enjoyed this story. It pulled me in from the beginning as we tried to figure out what was going on along with Bianca. She is thrown into a world that she had no idea existed and that calls things into question. She's adopted and so had no idea about psychics or the possibility of them being real. When she learns that she is one, she's in denial. Only saving grace is the one that steps in to help her out some, is also her best friend's dad and so she believes him. She has to go to a special academy to learn how to control her powers so as not to be a danger. She is being pulled between two worlds as she is not supposed to tell anyone about psychics or what is going on and the academy is very closed off. Strange things keep happening and she has to find some type of balance, while also training so as to be able to protect herself from what's going on. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were good and in this book there is a bit of a love triangle. She has Luke and Ryland that are both top students and competitive with each other. Both are interested and she is drawn to both. This definitely focuses on the action and intrigue and while some romance is there, nothing is happening too quickly. This is a slow burn and clean book. It doesn't quite leave on a cliffhanger but you know there is more that needs to be figured out. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

DNF 20% - no rating because maybe it gets better? IDK this book just wasn’t it for me.

Anyway what made me stop reading:

The writing and the flow of it all. It just read like this happened, then this happened, then that happened. Not for me.

All the freaking gasping - 15 just in the 8 chapters I read. No thanks.

The main character - Bianca. Not really sure what to make of her but she just annoyed me. I get that she is all curious and just learnt she has powers and all that but she seemed kinda meh. Example, she meets these guys and BOOM they’re so hot etc. Okay cool and all but the second time she’s met them and she’s all like OMG is he gonna kiss me? With BOTH guys. I’m a slow burn kinda girl so there’s that.

Also, she’s just found out she has powers and is all embarrassed that she doesn’t know anything - why? That’s the whole point of you going to an academy - TO LEARN. No one expects you to know shit. She takes a lot of comments to heart when honestly nothing felt snide or mean so ... maybe it’s just me.

Fast paced, action filled!!!!

This book takes off right at the begining. You are introduced to an average everyday teen aged girl who in the blink of an eye has her world turned upside down.
The characters are people you could relate to. I loved the main character Bianca. She has a strong personality, someone you want to get to know.
I cannot wait to see who is responsible for the troubles that are now the main stay of her life. I want to see her grow in her powers and who she will choose, Ryland or Luke. I love both of these guys. But what is Ryland up too?
If you want an easy fast paced story, this is it. I read it in one sitting.
Now onto the next book!!!!!

Omg what an amazing start to an exciting series. Bianca is a kick ass heroine with 3 gorgeous hunks of man sauce. 1st there is Daniel her best friend though now she's seeing him in a different light, then Ryland with his dark and cold eyes that want her wanting him more. And his polar opposite Luke with his charm and easy going attitude. The story keeps you entranced and with the action and suspense it was literally hard to put down. I can hardly wait to see what trouble the 4 of them will get into in the next book....stay tuned.

The Psychic Academy trains young psychics to control their powers, and many of them work for the government. Those who use their powers to hurt others and break the law are called Rogues. When Bianca comes into her powers she is sent to the Academy to train. Once there, she teams up with the two strongest students, who protect her from the Rogues who are suddenly trying to capture her. I really liked this book. Samantha does an amazing job in pulling the reader along into this world to follow Bianca from what happens to her when she discovers she has psychic powers to when she is in the middle of a love triangle. Bianca has to deal with two lives and two worlds simultaneously as she the psychic world is surrounded by secrecy. I can't wait for the next installment!

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Bianca realizes that she has powers. She’s psychic and gets sent to a special academy that the government sanctions. On top of this new adventure she has more than one love interest. Can she stay out of trouble from the rogues? Will she be able to choose from the boys? Fun and exciting read

MC reads like a child

Not sure why everyone wants a piece of her since she’s naive, selfish and ridiculously ignorant by choice. She can’t seem to learn any lessons and always thinks she’s right. Given her actions I would have put her at 13 but somehow she’s supposed to be 18.

Zero build up, just insta-love everywhere. Simplistic story.

This is an okay book. I think it's more for a younger age group. Teenagers would probably enjoy this one. There is paranormal powers and something bad going on within the school.
