This mystery, intrigue, and adventure story may be only a year or two away from real-life events. Two women scientists intend to capture DNA samples of discovered remarkable life forms within vents existing in the deepest ocean depths. The older and brilliant scientist reflects only on the mission — while the younger, who is both bright and certified blond bombshell, is incessantly seeing every situation in terms of its sexual implications — or sexual potential. The vents they intend to explore support life forms with a process called chemo-synthesis which lets them input methane and other noxious gases and ultimately output protoplasm. Their captured DNA could be used to transform energy equations across the globe, yielding food from gases now treated as harmful, plus fantastic medical discoveries as well. But a dark application could also create deadly weapons too. Implications for enormous wealth combined with this dark side bring shadowy terrorists along on the expedition. What follows is intrigue, drama, and intense romances between both women scientists and crew members on their expedition, who may turn out to be the enemy to destroy them.Deeptide integrates expected greed-driven intrigue with genetics-driven discoveries that may literally be around the corner.
Deeptide vents of Fire is a novel by Donald Ray Schwartz and Steven Evans, a thriller novel, scientifically enriched, and set in the severe conditions of the hydrothermal vents. I was actually astounded at the extent to which they incorporated hard science-fiction, military protocol and adventure. It is unique in the fact that all the science, including marine biology, geology, deep-sea exploration etc., is being researched and well presented and the concept of silicon and sulfur-based life begs the question on how life began and how such discoveries can bring about medical advances.
Dr. Susan Arthknott is a character who seems to be a driven scientist and her degenerative state adds depth to her character, she is seeking a cure, not only her own but also that of other people. The artistic engineer, Jennifer Littleton, is a pleasant addition, as she demonstrates character growth and was even bringing some real-life skills into the mission. The supporting cast is also good, particularly Commander Delores Hundley who brings credibility and makes the emotional stakes believable.
The background of the military procedures is good and the terminology is correct as well as the description of the operations of the USS Nebraska. The ethical ambiguities of the choices the crew has to make contribute to the story, the espionage elements introduce tension, traitors and conflicting interests enticing every member of the crew.
The world-building is also creative and the incorporation of a giant silicon-based monster generates distinctive experiences that demonstrate the ability to solve problems involving science in the high-stakes. The novel philosophically explores the morality of discovery, the conflict between warfare and pure science, and humanity as belonging to the sea.
The technical discussions are sometimes a slow process to the person who is just in charge of action but the prose is well laid out so that the reader gets the feeling of an educative reading. Vents...of Fire is a thrilling and thought provoking experience and one that can be strongly recommended to anyone who loves a scientifically accurate thriller that glorifies human curiosity and exploration of the unknown.
The science in the story originates from real-world facts and theories, making this novel less of fiction and more of a theory on how modern science can evolve further. Every page makes me want to read one more page before I realized, I have finished the entirety of the book and desired more works by Donald Schwartz.
A novel overflowing with adventure and surprises that lets the readers spend too much time to read through the entirety of this book with their first attempt, the amount of detail gives the impression that the author has traveled beyond the deep - sea caves before and investigated the secrets underneath.
The characters come off as people you would meet in any scientific voyage as the author implements as much real world details and facts as to create a story that is not only engaging to the readers but also has roots in scientific accuracy. Perfect for those who wanna learn something new while being entertained.
The ocean is believed to be the source of all life on this planet and has yet to be properly discovered, as new things are being discovered within the ocean regularly, one must wonder if the events happening in this story hasn't happened already. Overall a good book highlighting the wonders and mysteries of the sea.
A scientific exploration of a lifetime goes according to plan until an unknown vessel attacks the crew both above the water and beneath. A tale of discovery, action, romance, and accurate scientific theories. Everything you would expect from a well-made science fiction novel from the brilliant mind of Donald Schwartz.
"This is a tense and thrilling story of deep-sea exploration. The scientists are determined to learn more about the strange life forms they've discovered and collect samples for research, but when they encounter betrayal after betrayal, they find themselves in grave danger from places they least expect. "
I love how, despite being a fiction genre, the author did not disregard all of the scientific requirements to not only reach the deepest depths of the ocean but also the implications of the organisms in the vents. Add suspense to an already informative story, and you've got something that will keep your attention for hours.
Although rooting in science fiction the author fills the book with so much accuracy to scientific detail that readers tend to forget that it is a work of fiction, it's accurate with not just the science but the geography and designs for the scenery. Making it more akin to facts than fiction.
What's not to like about a story about two female scientists who plan to collect DNA samples from extraordinary life forms discovered in deep-sea vents? It's entertaining from both a narrative and a scientific standpoint.
The first few chapters felt slow to me as they were more focused on introducing characters, but the moment things started occurring under the ocean, I couldn't stop myself from reading every page as fast as I could.
A story about two female scientists who plan to collect DNA samples from extraordinary life forms discovered in deep-sea vents. It contains a good mix of scientific facts and exaggerations to make the story more interesting.
When two female scientists set out to explore the ocean's depths, they got more than they bargained for. They discover what chaos can occur under the waves away from civilization while surrounded by those they thought they could trust.
What could have been a story about the good that humanity can do becomes a story about how even well-intentioned discoveries can lead to atrocities. There's more to the story than meets the eye.
The thought that a pair of researchers discovered a potential source of innovation for the betterment of mankind alone makes the narrative worth the read, as whenever some want to do good, there are always those who want to do evil.
Setting the story under the ocean near the deep sea vents is thrilling enough, but as the crew will soon find out, not everyone agrees on what to do with their discoveries. turning the story into a suspenseful thriller.
This entertaining book contains elements of mystery, intrigue, and adventure. an exciting blend of life science and adventure. A must-read for anyone interested in what happens beneath the ocean's surface.

This story has a slow beginning but quickly becomes an entertaining adventure that takes its readers to an underwater world filled with a mysterious yet thrilling plot of deception and betrayal.
The idea of being deep within the cold depths of the ocean has always terrified me, but add some suspense and betrayal from the crew aboard the research submarine, and you've got a story that will keep you awake for hours.
I was impressed with how the author paces the narrative; moments of calm and ""world-building"" come just before moments of intrigue and sometimes suspense. Keeping readers invested in the narrative.
Aside from the thrilling narrative, it's important to keep an open mind about what might happen, as the unexplored depths of the ocean can often hold mysteries that make this story an unforgettable adventure.
A heart-pounding tale featuring the mysterious and unexplored depths of the ocean You'll fall in love with the adventures and the characters, rooting for their happiness even if it's not what you want.
After reading it, my best description of the book is that it is a gripping story of twisted relationships, deception, and intense scientific discoveries that can make or break humanity as a whole.
The book begins as an adventure and exploration that quickly devolves into a page-turning suspense thriller set in the cold, dark depths of the ocean, where the slightest error could mean catastrophe.
"The setting of the book is a world apart from our own, making it an adventure to be treasured and savored by adult readers who want to sneak away from their families and pretend they know what it's like to be in an otherworldly place.
It's not the best time to be reading stories, but it kept me entertained during a presentation in my school's auditorium. I didn't even realize the activity was over until I finished the book. In a nutshell, the story will capture your attention.
What caught my attention the most was how the author stuck to a proper world-building narrative, as when the characters finally traversed the depths of the ocean, the author focused and maintained the scientific aspect excellently.
Consider yourself a member of a crew on a deep-sea mission. This science fiction adventure revolves around a mission to the deepest point of the ocean, where they will face adventure and exploration of the unknown.
There were times that I assumed I was reading a school textbook instead of a fictitious story due to the author's attention to detail and the focus of the narrative being more akin to depicting facts.
