Pros: Star athlete. Amazing body. Excellent sense of humor. Cons: A bit cocky and-- Oh, yeah. I'm his tutor.
This. Can't. Happen.
I'm so close to getting everything I've ever wanted but all I can think about is John Kirby sitting in the front row of class. Teaching assistants and students cannot mix the way he obviously wants us to. So, I'll just keep my eyes on my own paper until one of us graduates. Easy enough, right?
Wrong.
Business, meet Pleasure.
I can't resist him and he knows it. I leap at his emails. I giggle at his texts. I melt beneath his touch...
No. This. Can't...
Why do I keep saying this can't happen... when it already has?
I am so screwed.
An irresistible playboy. A forbidden teaching assistant. College football’s quickest halfback is in too deep.
The Bad Ballers: Bump and Run (Junior and Eliza’s story) In Too Deep (John and Rose’s story) Home Run Baby (Hunter and Daisy’s story)
This title was originally published as Johnny Deeper and Go Deep.
USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Tabatha Kiss is from Chicago, Illinois.
You can probably catch her huddled up in a hoodie, reading a good romance beneath a tree with her trusty husky by her side. She enjoys roller derby, sushi, and is always searching for her forever bad boy.
Footballer John and prim TA Rose. It starts out as a bet between the football team to sleep with a teacher but soon becomes much more serious.
I loved both characters. Rose is the quiet, studious tutor with a secret love of football. She tries to keep things purely academic between her and John which created some delicious tension.
John was sweet. I liked his progression from badboy to goodguy. I liked that he was secretly smart and impressed Rose with unnecessarily long words. It was nice that both were secretly like the other. You didn’t think ‘why are they together?’
And it was pretty hot.
Thumbs up from me. A good sports romance with a good dollop of actual sport in it.
~~~I received an ARC of Johnny Deeper by Tabitha Kiss for an honest review!~~~
This is the second book I have read by Ms Kiss. When I got this ARC, I quickly read Whiplash so that I would know the names of some characters.
John Kirby, the star halfback, and a womanizer. Being in his senior year at college it is his last year to complete the Trifecta, sleep with a freshman, an alumni and a teacher, so he tries to challenge the rest of the football team to a contest but only one guy, his nemesis, will join in.
Rose Hawthorne is a first tear TA for General Chemistry. She is also a diehard Football fan while her twin sister Daisy loves Baseball. Rose keeps herself closed off almost in a safe bubble because she was hurt once before by a man that pursued her, used her and forgot her. She is nervous about teaching for the first time but also excited to see that John Kirby, the star halfback, is in her class.
I loved Johnny and Rose's interactions with each other. They were great! I loved how Rose gave Johnny crap and didn't just let him get away with things. The sex is explicit and hot and pretty frequent, but it totally fits the story. There's a lot of sexual tension too. I loved how it was done and how it was put into the story. Everything flowed and there's just as much going on outside to keep you interested and entertained. I love how football was blended into this. It was really well done for everyone, if you like watching football or not. Johnny's a great guy, he just needed the right person.
This can be read on its own or it can be read as a follow up on Whiplash. I will go on the record and recommend this book to sports romance junkies!!!
Johnny Deeper is the story of John, a star college halfback in his last year of school and Rose, a graduate student and TA at the college. John makes a locker room bet with a teammate for a "trifecta" of sexcapdes that involve sleeping with a freshman, an alumnus and a teacher, and he sets his sights on Rose to check off the teacher portion of this bet. Rose has signed a pretty airtight ethics clause for her teaching position which puts John completely off limits, even though she is attracted to him. With some encouragement from her twin sister and in spite of her misgivings about sleeping with a student (along with not knowing about the bet), Rose allows John to wear her down with his charm and good looks and they begin a relationship. John quickly realizes that he feels more for Rose than he thought he would and he backs out of the trifecta. Rose also finds herself falling for her student.
This was the first work I've read by Tabitha Kiss and I enjoyed her writing style although I found the characters to be a bit juvenile. I wasn't too convinced that a senior football player hoping to make it to the pros would choose to focus on a bet like this and I was also unconvinced that a TA would compromise her ethics and her job so easily. There were also a few typos and some grammar issues.
That being said, I did find the dialog between the characters to be smart and funny and I enjoyed that aspect of the book. I will try a couple more reads by this author since I feel that it was just this particular premise, the bet in particular, that didn't work for me.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this for a honest review. I actually loved the book before this one that had Ellie and Junior in it but I have to say this one is just as good.
John Kirby was a half back. He was handsome and a little full of himself. Probably everyone that looked at John thought he was just another dumb jock but he was so much more. I think it is funny that he did not know what was in store for him when he made the trifecta bet with Douglas Floyd.
Rose Hawthorne was a TA and one rule was not to get involved with the students. She will find that rule very hard to keep when she finds out she has John Kirby in her class. Truthfully she is the perfect person for John since she loves sports so much. They truly have a lot in common.
John finds himself very attracted to his TA, Rose. Once he finds himself getting one taste of her he finds that he cannot get enough of her and his taste for other women has disappeared. This is going to make if very hard to complete the trifecta. The one thing he does not want is Douglas Floyd to beat him but the more he gets involved with Rose the more it does not matter.
Rose is not going to be easy for John to catch. He will have to let his true self shine through but if Rose finds out his secret it could destroy anything they have built. Can John and Rose get through all the road blocks that is in their way and let love find a way or will they be left hurt and heartbroken?
3 1/2 stars - Both funny and fun. Certainly a quick page turner. John is the typical jock...well, kind of. While he is a football God, no one really knows his true self - or realizes his depth. He plays the jock card very well. Rose is focused on grad school and her new TA role. While secretly a die hard football fan she does her best to stave off any advances on John's part. She's been burned by a dumb jock once before and vows "never again". This book has a lot of levity and we see a lot of humor and all of the good in the characters. Despite their chemistry and attraction, I would have loved a bit more depth to the characters. We get glimpses here and there, but I wanted to fall in love with them rather than just watching it unfold before me. That being said, this book does its job in entertaining and provides an enjoyable break from reality.I would recommend it. I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A bit quirky, quite funny, somewhat sweet and very steamy, this book really scores! This is book two in this series. It can easily be read as a standalone but trust me, you so do not want to miss Junior and Eliza's story in book #1 (Whiplash). I loved book one and I was honestly afraid that the next book would never live up to it. However, this book met all my expectations and gave me more. Johnny and Rose are absolute perfection. Rose is sweet, smart, sassy and sensitive. Johnny is smart, hot, talented and a bit full of himself. You kind of start out disliking him but it doesn't last long. This is a story about opposites attracting, mixed with the forbidden romance trope; that works beautifully. There is drama and secrets that cause problems along the way. We are also introduced to Daisy, Rose's twin sister. Her book is next and I can't wait for it! I recommend this to anyone that just enjoys a simply terrific romance that offers heart, heat, humor and emotion in a perfect balance.
I didn't want this book to end! It all started as a contest between Johnny and Doug. Whoever sleeps with a teacher, a freshman and an alumnus first wins. Johnny figures he will get the harder one out of the way. Ms. Hawthorne is the hot TA is Johnny's target for sleeping with a teacher. What he wasn't expecting was to fall in love with her. After she played hard to get for a bit, she couldn't hold back her feelings of wanting to sleep with him too. It was only supposed to be for fun. I loved this story. Two people who probably should have stayed away from each other, didn't care. Love comes when you least expect it and you should follow your heart. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's definitely a page-turner!
John is totally cocky, yet, somehow, endearingly so. I couldn't not love John. I totally get why Rose fell for him so quickly. Rose is shy, but willing to try new things. I think that's why John got hooked so quickly.
Their story is the second in a sports romance series, and features characters from Whiplash. I was so happy to catch up with Eliza & Junior!!! I totally loved them in Whiplash! While Johnny Deeper is a spin-off, it is not necessary to read Whiplash first (though you most definitely should!!) to understand the book.
I also enjoyed Daisy's character. Hopefully, she gets her story soon.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my review.
Another must read by Tabatha Kiss! I love Rose and John, they suited each other perfectly. It was brilliant to see characters from Whiplash appear in here too. And can't forget Daisy! Tabatha knows how to grab all of your emotions with her writing, the perfect roller-coaster ride, each and every time. Would certainly recommend!
The second book is Tabatha Kiss’ Bad Baller series follows John Kirby, the halfback on the university football team, and his chemistry TA Rose. This book is the key piece that connects the first and third books, with the first focusing on John’s teammate Junior, and the third focusing on Rose’s twin sister Daisy. It was a terrific addition to the series, and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a low angst, easy summer sports romance!
John Kirby is a player. The book starts off with him making a bet with another guy on his college football team. Whichever person can complete the trifecta first by sleeping with a freshman, an alumni, and a teacher, wins. The minute John sees Rose, his chemistry TA, he knows that this she is the perfect teacher for the challenge. Rose is a graduate student who is obsessed with football. Despite her attracted to John, she knows he is completely off-limits, as any relationship would cost her, her job.
I loved Rose and John, I thought there chemistry was terrific. The story moved quickly, and was well written, so I was never bored. There was lots of steam, humour, and romance. The plot was pretty predictable, and I knew how the story was going to play out from the very first chapter, but that’s to be expected with this trope. Another plus: it’s available on Kindle Unlimited!
There was marked emotional growth with John. I actually couldn’t stand him in the beginning of the book, but the author did a fantastic job of showing him turn from an immature douchecanoe to a sweetheart, who is heartwarmingly rough around the edges. I also really loved Daisy. She was the perfect counterbalance to Rose’s somewhat uptight personality. It’s funny, I didn’t really connect with Rose at all. It’s not that I didn’t like her, she was just overshadowed by John, and even Daisy to a degree.
I also really liked how their relationship grew and changed throughout the story, the pacing was spot on. The entire story arc had a great flow to it, I read it all in almost one sitting.
What I didn’t like:
I didn’t like how quickly Rose gave in to John. I mean, he flirted - badly - a few times, and then BOOM, she’s all in. I like an h with a little more spunk. There was no real burn either, which means very little chemistry.
The other thing I didn’t like was the ending. No spoilers, but the way he won her back was beyond ridiculous. It was so impossibly unrealistic that it almost dropped the rating to three stars.
Title: In Too Deep Author: Tabatha Kiss Format: Ebook Genre: Romance - sports (college football), forbidden (teacher/student) Standalone: yes Part of a Series: yes book two of the Bad Baller series POV: Rose and John Steam Level: toasty at times 5/5
I love sports romances, especially football. Tabatha Kiss nails it with In Too Deep. It’s sweet and funny, snarky and sexy. The forbidden aspect of the story made it hotter. And I loved John and his shenanigans on and off the field. The characters in this series are fun and surprising. I’m bummed that I waited so long to read this book.
Though the blurb is a little misleading.. I mean it has been a while since I read Whiplash... but I don't remember John being that much of a vulgar douche. And he wasn't in this. Like page 2 he was a new man.
But I liked it. I liked Rose, though what she did was totally dumb and yeah, would have cost her her job.
I liked seeing a bit of a continuation of Junior and Eliza's story.
Dual POV. Plenty of steam. I enjoyed John’s transformation from prick to decent guy. I liked the main characters in this book earlier than I did in the first book (took me longer to warm up to Eliza and Junior than John and Rose).
Typical college romance. Whatever happened to uniqueness in a book? Every book you read about a college romance it's exactly the same thing. Someone said actually try something different.
Enjoyable.... but unrealistic.... I’m all for a good romance- fantasy-type story... but she would have been fired and so would Dr. Zach. Wasn’t totally feeling their chemistry (no pun intended).
Loved it. The banter, the sarcasm, and most of all the CHEMISTRY was off the charts. John and Rose are perfect for each other. You will love it too. As always....Enjoy!!!!
I loved both protagonists, John and Rose. John is quite a contradiction. He is way too goodlooking, clever and a talented halfback and is therefore quite cocky. But on the other hand he is romantic and charming, sometimes hilarious ... a quite irresistible mix… Rose is everything I expect from a female fictional character. I loved her sass, her cleverness and ambitiousness, and I loved her sweetness and sensitivity. Together they are quite the dream couple.
As is usual with a Tabatha Kiss book, there are quite some twists and turns that maintain tension throughout the book. Add a bit of hot chemistry, some drama and a bet and you'll get a perfectly entertaining romance that's a real page turner.
