Kaim. The assassin. A man who I suspect isn't quite human.
It's impossible for me to escape his deadly grasp. As we travel across the Rift Continent, headed for the place where Kaim will complete his forsaken mission, I'm not sure I want to.
For beneath his cold killer's mask lie hidden surprises: tenderness, warmth, and deep secrets not yet unveiled.
Like a moth mesmerized by a flame, I'm increasingly drawn to him.
But Kaim's existence is bound by dark forces, and I must find a way to anchor him before the vicious world swallows us whole.
Chaos is a fantasy romance for adults and the second installment in the Dark Scion Trilogy. This enemies-to-lovers, dual-POV, spicy fantasy romance features a dangerous hero, a fierce heroine, a magical world filled with gods, dragons, and adventure—and definite touch-her-and-die vibes.
The storyline spans Books 1-3, with Book 3 concluding in a happily-ever-after.
Really enjoying this series not as fast paste as the first book but still plenty going on still very into the story reaching for the next book see what happens.
This second book was really “Chaos”. Full of action and intensely interesting. Amali and Kaim are tenacious characters. Both characters have evolved in and developed throughout the story. I can’t wait for book 3.
Better than the first, but still repetitive in some places and very insta love. Some of the dialogue is also really cheesy. I did enjoy the overall story though and I really like the hero so he's pretty much why I'm still reading lol
Well this is another weird cover. Am I the only that thinks there's just something...off...about them? But who cares what the cover looks like when the book is this good! Like the first one, this one has Kaim and Amali traveling for a good amount of it. And, again, I found myself immencely enjoying it. Who knew it could happen twice? We do get a little more action here though, and the ending was just crazy.
After saving Amali's people and telling them where to head for safety, Kaim and Amali are off on their own trip. It's time for Kaim to claim his payment for the head he's been carrying around. It's a long and brutal one though. On the plus side, it gives these two more time to get to know each other and for Kaim to "court" Amali as he so desires to do. I truly loved how Amali is able to acknowledge the depths of her feelings for Kaim and to accept him as the cold assassin he is. Though, she still does hope that some day he could use his skills for good. As for Kaim, my gawd this man! He is just so damn swoon worthy. From the words he gives Amali to his actions towards her, it would be impossible to not fall for him.
Their harsh, but dreamlike trip takes a turn when a dragon shows up. A dragon with a Ven rider. Caught off guard, Kaim is injured. A scratch that is so much worse than that, has Amali watch as he gets worse and worse as each day passes. When they find out what is causing him to suffer so, it's definitely not good news. Kaim pushes thru the incredible pain in order to get his payment only to find himself being betrayed. Surrounded by Ven and a dragon out for blood, Kaim does the only thing he can think of to protect Amali. With tragic results.
Like I said, the ending was crazy and it was also terrible. I'm pretty sure I gasped and said NOOO a couple times. I am ridiculously excited about getting the next book.
What a great follow up! While its clear that they have very real feelings for each other, in the beginning of this installment they struggle a bit with how they feel about each other, just a little bit though, it was a nice little bump in the road but defenitely needed I think for the evolvement of their relationship. Once it's clear they have a solid foundation, the rest of the world seems hell bent on tearing them apart for their past action like when she murdered the emperor and ya know, Kaim being a hired assassin and all. They have to fight against nearly every race in the empire including their own who are trying to kill them. Between Kaim's growing powers, the suspicions of his origins and the origin of Amali's mysterious birthmark we have lots of substance in this second book. The world building is still evolving with their travels and the new people and creatures that appear. Second books seem to always be my favorite and I'm so glad this is a finished series. I have already started the last one and can't wait to see how their story ends.
Oh man I’m so glad I waited until all three books were done before starting. I’d never have survived the wait. Ok where was I? At the end of the last book I didn’t much like Kaim, and the whole submissive thing was squicking me out, —can’t stand a slave “falling for her master” theme, just makes me gag— however that was not the case at all, and I really should have trusted AC, she’s never given me a submissive h, at least out of the bedroom. Amali really kicked behind in this one, wow what a lady, and I actually fell in love with Kaim, he’s grown within himself and that’s exactly what he needed. I’m on to the last book now, after reading through the night I’m tired but I just can’t wait to see them get out of this jam.
What an amazing action packed world this book has from get go. Totally unexpected. I love all of Anna Carven’s alien/scifi books so reading something set in a completely different earthy universe was amazing. This series has kingdoms, dragon, gods, monsters, assassins, magic and romance. I love Kaim and Amali’s story so much and cannot wait to find out what happens next.
This is book two in the series & follows straight on from the first book, Vengeance. It’s the continuing story of Amali & Kaim with them going to claim the reward for the assassination with their evidence. It started well but I did find it quite hard going through the middle part of this book however the ending picked up the pace & had me gasping in disbelief. I don’t know where this will go in the third book but I’m going to read it now for sure
I know this series suffers from extreme editing issues-- but, I really love it. I have re-read it many times. In a way, it is sort of a beauty and the beast riff; where no one's hands are clean the world is cut-throat.
This book focuses on the fall-out from the decisions made by the main characters in the first book. It also serves as a continued exploration of the world and its religions. Despite the various travels, the book is engaging, action-packed, and fast-paced. Hence, 5 stars.
I devoured this book in one sitting! Book two continues right where book one left off and the action doesn’t stop. I fell more in love with Kaim and I didn’t think that would ever be possible. Loved every single second of this book and can’t wait to see what happens in book three!
I love the story. The characters aren't instantly romantic everything is perfect. It's a refreshing, different kind of plot. My only criticism would be there isn't a lot of background work building, but at the same time it's okay the author gives you enough information you can figure it out as you goe.
Assassin's who fall in love , dragons, and demons or is it vampire lore. Sorcery coins that are possible magical . There is so much going on but you're never lost to what going on in the story. I just hope someone is able to grow his hands back cause he really needs them.
Wow, what a ride. Kaim is, like all of Anna Carven’s males, absolutely perfect. The story continues to develop the romance between Kaim and Amali. It ends on a cliffhanger, and hopefully we will get the conclusion quickly. Great storytelling!
Incredible adventure with sweet romantic moments and dark bloody escapes from everyone and their brother trying there best to capture or kill them! Thanks for another awesome read so look forward to book 3 to find how this love survives💖💖
This is part 2 of a 3 part story. I enjoyed it. We see the hero and heroine’s relationship develop significantly and more events happen. I’m looking forward to the final instalment.
I just finished the Dark Scions trilogy and it was so good...didn't want to take time to review each book after I read them...had to read the next! This series has strong, interesting characters and awesome word building. I highly recommend.
This second one was a bit repetitive with all the lovey dovey emotional blah blah that both characters were divulging. Yes we get that it was love, but can we please move along. Felt like the author was just filling blank space with the poring hearts.
I want to thank AC for the warning that this book would be a cliff hanger and reminding us that the next book is already published. Saved me a lot of angst. Am off to the last bit of the story.
Amali and Kaim seem to only find trouble on their journey even as they grow closer in this chaotic tale. The story takes a dark twist and fate will decide their future now. This is an entertaining read.
