A skeleton, fading powers, and an unexpected parental visit.
When my parents drop in for an unscheduled visit, a hastily prepared spare room reveals a dark secret. A skeleton is hidden inside the closet walls, and the dead body was a pixie!
With rapid-fire revelations coming from my mother and an invisible creature stalking the library, it's hard to grab a moment's peace. Add to that an enraged uncle—the same one who tried to cheat me out of my inheritance—and I'm halfway to wishing I'd never heard of Oakleaf Glade.
Worst of all, my pixie powers start disappearing, shunting me out of the supernatural world I so recently discovered. When the local librarian and my flatmate Brody both go missing, I must call on the help of all my friends and neighbours if we're to unravel the mystery of the long-dead skeleton and stand a chance against a powerful foe.
Willow Mason is the author of Witchy Paranormal Cozy Mysteries.
She lives in a small town in New Zealand, far too close to the beach and fantastic walking trails to get nearly as much work done as she should. Until someone bestows magic powers on her, she'll just keep hoping for the invention of self-cleaning dishes and self-washing clothes.
I've read all three books in the German translation.
Not quite sure where to begin. I'm not mad I read the books. Each had a cute little story which was fine for ready on the train or waiting at the doctor's.
But I do have a few things to criticize:
1. Even after reading 3 books, I still don't really care for Elisa, our main character. That's not how stories are supposed to work. Despite her telling the story, we barely get to know background information. She has no depths to her and therefore is bland and boring.
2. Every story feels rushed. The reader barely gets to breathe or think. The story jumps from one thing happening to the next, sometimes there is not even a paragraph when jumping several hours. Plus is feels impossible to cramp everything that's happening in a single day.
3. Creatures and magic system don't feel well thought about. I get it, that Elisa learns about this to her new world and the reader alongside her. Which is fine. But overall the whole magic thing feels like the author didn't have a plan before and made up convenient things to further the plot along the way. The same seems to be true for new creatures and their abilities.
I stand by what I said after book 1. The idea, the set up for the story has sooooo much potential. I just wish it would be used, because I'm sure it could be amazing.
If you are looking for a quick read with no need to think hard about it, this is a book for you. But if you like to use your brain while reading, you might want to look for something else.
Wow, I that mom … I just did NOT like her! The main character is trying to settle in to life as a pixie and rectify some mistakes when mom and her boyfriend come to visit. Her mom is awful awful, awful, I did not like that character at all. In previous books she was more at a distance through phone calls, but her and Ben are demanding, irritating, demeaning, selfish, therapy inducing “parental figures”.
Brody disappears, pixie powers are waning, magic is going amok, there’s a skeleton in the walls, an uncle who may or may not be evil, and a mystery to solve. I deducted points because of the mom - that storyline kinda brought down the book. 3.2-3.5 stars.
I can't stand meddling family members.....especially when they are disrespectful and opinionated. I would have sent the mother to fudge herself when she was talking about Broody negatively and asking unknown people for personal stuff. I would have really kicked them out of the house right away. Also, not giving a timeline on when they are leaving, is ridiculous, inconveniencing others. "Don't want to be a burden" then don't freaking appear unannounced and start spatting venom. I hated this last book and the mother character was so crappy, it made the whole story trash. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. A Young woman who inherits her great aunts house as well as her great aunts magic and powers as a pixie. After inheriting the house she moved to the small town and meets new friends and starts her new life. Along with her cat familiar and her friends she helps the local police solve mysteries crimes and murders. A very entertaining and fun series. Check it out
Fun and cute cast of characters. The author provides a delightful story that is wrapped up but still has delicious nuggets that may be future stories. Lighthearted and sweet, definitely recommend!
I love the thought of the house giving you all the things you need. If only I could scratch my head for pixie dust to help our world. Wonder what the boyfriend will think once he learns of her magic
Interesting and cute ongoing story about an pixie inheritance and destructions. A talking cat that was always falling asleep when a couple of words were mentioned out loud.
Uh oh, the relatives have come to town. And they are a bit pushy. Add in an invisible something that is causing havoc, and we get another great mystery to read.
