Fire's Edge #3

The Enforcer

Rate this book
Death comes for everyone. Even Drake Chandali. The aging process that twists all unmated dragon shifters’ bodies into something useless has taken hold of his body centuries early. A mate could have reversed the process, but now it’s too late. To protect his team of enforcers, he leaves, and comes face to face with the woman he’d thought was human when he saved her from a fire months before.

Except she’s not human. She’s a mate.

Camilla Carrillo almost lost her family to wildfire. To discover she’s fated to mate a creature made of flame and rage, and become one herself, should be terrifying. But somehow a rightness settles inside her, especially when she’s around the glowering red dragon shifter who wants nothing to do with her.

When Drake learns Cami bears his mark — the same mark as the High King — he refuses to believe she’s meant to be his. It’s too late. How could he turn Cami only to take her with him to the grave? At the same time, he can’t walk away. Hiding her from the corrupt, rotting High King might be the last honorable thing Drake ever does with the little time he has left.

Dying dragon, Hidden mate!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😳😬🤬😚🥰

The heroine: Camilla - a human woman who was rescued along with her family while trying to escape a raging wildfire. She fears the rough and tough dragon that saved them, especially knowing she is the one that started the fire after she discovered her chest glowing. Though after saving her and her family, Drake wiped the memory from their minds.

The Hero: Drake - He is grumpy and growly and the most silent member of the Huracán Enforcers, dragons from different clans that monitor the western half of North America. Dragon shifters age extremely slowly but if they get to be 1000 years old without finding their fated mate, they begin dying. Drake is only about 700 years old but is already dying and has given up on finding his mate.

The Story: Camilla is taken in by Rune after discovering she is a dragon shifter mate. Rune is a rogue dragon shifter who used to be a Huracán Enforcer, but went rogue after figuring out how corrupt the mating council is. He now saves dragon mates from the process since mating with someone who is not their fated mate means death and the council pairs new women found as dragon mates with the wealthiest and most powerful dragon shifters instead of the men who are more possibly fated mates.

Drake arrives at the place where Rune is hiding the women he has saved to advise Rune and his team since now the Huracán team knows how corrupt the mating council is and has started to trust Rune more and agree with what Rune is doing for the dragon mates.

Like The Rookie, this book was narrated by Brian Pallino and Melissa Moran. I loved these narrators. With Brian having a deep gravelly voice that was perfect for Drake, grumpy dragon that he is. And Melissa has a pleasing tone and tempo that worked well for Camilla as well. I enjoyed every bit of this steamy and exiting story. I have already read the next two books in this series but plan to read the Prequel next. I hope Abigail Owen writes more in this series as there are plenty of other dragons on the Huracán Enforcer team that I would like to read about.

Holy smokes the deceit and lies in this world of Dragons just keeps getting more intense as each book reveals just who is a Mate and who is the enemy. The old guard that control the way Dragons find a Mate are pushing everyone to find the one woman who can heal the rotting King. A Dragon who goes unmated for more than a thousand years slowly decays but if the King forcibly mates with the wrong woman his fire will quite literally burn her alive !
Drake understands the dangers of not finding your Mate because like his King his body is betraying him and as he doesn’t want to let his team of Enforcers down he’s prepared to leave and be considered rogue which is an automatic death sentence. It’s just too bad that the little human he recently saved during a fire happens to be where he’s hiding. Not only is Cami maddeningly annoying but she also happens to be a woman who is capable of transforming into a Dragon but it’s far too late for Drake isn’t it ?
Having started this series with the prequel The Mate I found it a lot easier to understand the politics and mating procedure than some other reviewers. If honest I really do think it’s essential reading to get the best out of this series and as I write it’s free on kindle so a definite recommendation. I liked this couple and could understand just why Drake who is stubborn and loyal really didn’t want to hurt anyone but himself. Now luckily Cami is just as stubborn as Drake is so she had no intention of ever leaving him in peace to brood and just slowly decay away. I confess I’d like more about the rotting King as he’s notably absent and his “council goons” are running the show. There are definitely those with their own agenda here but perhaps most intriguing is Rune the sneaky black Dragon who I’d definitely like to know much more about. If blunt apart from a slight alluding to a missing Phoenix and a shake up in Drakes team this particular book didn’t really move the overall plot along much but I’m hoping that the next book will combine romance with action and obviously ultimately a revolution !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

They hide among us, fiery dragon shifters with their slow ageing process, their soul deep loyalties to their clans and their desperate search for their fated mates, for to never find them will mean certain decline and death. Drake is coming to the end of his life, he has no hope of finding his mate, so he leaves his brothers behind only to come face to face with a woman he rescued months before from a raging fire. For all of the sexual tension between them, Drake knows Camilla is human, or is she?

Camilla bears the mark of a dragon mate, yet she doesn’t even believe dragons exist, could she be Drake’s savior or has his decline gone too far to even dream of finding what his heart and soul crave? To try to turn her now could mean certain death alongside him, besides, her mark is shared by both Drake and the High King…which makes her doubly dangerous or possibly doubly strong. Could this female possess the strength to pull Drake for the brink of death? Would she even accept him?

Drake is far from an open book, he is moody, standoffish and doing his best not to encourage Cami, but you know what they say about a hard-headed woman…Cami is fierce in her love of family, of those she cares about and in her loyalty to a man who she sees clearly needs someone on his side.

Abigail Owen’s THE ENFORCER sizzles with tension, not only between Cami and Drake, but among the dragons, as well. Brilliant storytelling in a world created to fall into and believe in, page after page. Feel the heat, the passions and the turmoil as one dragon and one mate find each other only after it may be too late.

An excellent addition to this series!

I am so excited to be back with these HOT firefighting dragon shifters, and to meet some new ones in The Enforcer, the third book of the Fire’s Edge series by Abigail Owen.

Drake was the only one who could save the family surrounded by fire, but because he is unmated, his body rebelled in his hurry to save them. It is Cami’s family that he rescues.

She is not afraid of him. She has issues of her own, no one to turn to for help, until…Rune. He just happens to be in the vicinity. He is a rogue, a dragon shifter with no clan and gathers those who need his help, offering them a safe refuge

Dragons come in many colors, each with their own special abilities, other than the normal fire breathing and such. If dragons do not mate, they begin to age and death is not far behind. Drake is one of those dragons. They have their own political intrigue and narcissistic rulers. There is betrayal, danger, love and sacrifice. The kings make the laws, the enforcers, enforce them. Going rogue is a death sentence.

Cami finds a friend in Skylar, who has her own secrets. For some reason, she is drawn to Cami and offers to help her, teaching her martial arts, while she is nursing Drake. At first she doesn’t know why she is drawn to him, but as she learns the ways of dragons, it becomes clear to her. At the moment, she is the stronger one.

“…is your default setting asshole?”

“I’m surprised he left you alone with me.”

“He didn’t want to, something about you being a scary motherfucker…”

Oh man, when a shifter dies…it brought tears to my eyes. Abigail Owen’s descriptive writing brought the scene to life and I could picture it in my mind. BUT, I’m not telling you who will no longer be with us. And Drake, that is his biggest fear. If he were to mate with Cami and not be healed, they would both die.

We have a lot of fun verbal foreplay that turns HOT, steamy, sexy, playful, HOT…ADULTS ONLY HOT.

“Did you know some dragon shifters can shift a single part of themselves?”

I know what first popped into my mind and I wonder what pop into yours. LOL

I love dragons in any shape or form. They are people first, doing all the things that humans do, after all, someone has to cook dinner, do laundry, and all those menial chores that need to be done day after day. I love Drake, Cami, and their merry band of misfits. Makes for some wonderful moments as their individual personalities are revealed. It has been a marvelous visit and I look forward to returning.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Enforcer by Abigail Owen.

Drake is a grumpy Gus, but he gets the job done and he does it well. His word is a good as gold. As his body continues to fail him though, Drake knows his time is up on finding his dragon mate. However, he was hoping for just a little more time before he has to say goodbye to those closest to him. Joining with this new group of dragons isn’t...ideal exactly, and darned if the human female he risked life and limb to save is staying with this motley crew. But who’s mate could she be? Certainly not his, because he would have known when he saved her, wouldn’t he?

Cami has lost her home to a fire and has discovered more than she bargained for as a new, potential Dragon’s mate. She hasn’t found her groove in this new environment, clinging strongly to her human life and family; their familiarity making her feel safe and secure. Drake seems familiar, but Cami doesn’t know from where or why. Regardless, she’s going back home where she feels she’s really needed. Yet when danger finds her and she unwittingly places her family in the crosshairs of said danger, it’s a good thing Drake has her back, because she may have bitten off more than she anticipated...or discovered what she’s been searching for all along.

Drake and Cami cracked me up! Her sassiness and determination to dig under his thick hide and his stoic demeanor and silence in the face of a chatterbox just fanned the sparky little flames between them into quite an inferno of attraction and bonding! They fit well together, even when in denial of the obvious possibilities, but gracious what a journey it was to get there!!

I am loving Abigail Owen’s dragons! The politics, the backgrounds, the friendships, alliances...all are intricately woven and intriguing in their own ways. However the romance is what draws me every time! Drake and Cami were very strong characters and their relationship alternated between butting heads and finding that someone strong enough to stand up to! But it made for wonderful tension and one heck of an intimate explosion! Really, there’s a whole storyline of goodies happening ...

The Enforcer is book three of the Fire’s Edge series and could be read as a stand-alone. There’s a recap given that explains the political landscape and the current situation the guys find themselves in, however, I recommend reading the series from the start because there is an entirely delicious world of sexy dragons and their madcap journeys just waiting to be discovered!

I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley and this is my honest review.

The Enforcer by Abigail Owen is book three in her Fire’s Edge series. This was my introduction to this author, and it was a pleasant experience. The author provides adequate backstory from earlier books in this series, so I was able to completely follow the story. Each novel in the series is a standalone, but the backstory was still helpful.

Drake Chandali is a red dragon shifter. Camilla “Cami” Carillo is a dragon shifter mate, though neither of them are aware of this initially. Of course Cami doesn’t get it, she just found out that dragons really exist. Drake becomes her protector to keep her out of the hands of a corrupt king. Cami believes Drake is her mate. Now all she has to do is get him to believe that it’s not too late for her to save him from an early death.

Since I’m a fan of paranormal/shifter novels, I especially enjoyed The Enforcer. The characters are strong and vibrant, obviously since they’re dragons or dragon mates. The dialogue is fresh and engaging. Ms. Owen makes the concept of dragons seem absolutely feasible. She takes you into their brilliantly created world. I give The Enforcer 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all readers of paranormal/shifter romance. There is some explicit sexual content that may be offensive to some readers.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My thanks to Entangled Publishing, LLC and NetGalley for the opportunity.

I liked this one, I really did. But even so, it took me too long to finish because I was so easily able to put it aside for other things. I don't know, I guess it just didn't suck me in despite everything I liked. I really liked how this time the female mc already knew about dragons and the whole mating thing by the time she meets her mate. I also got pretty excited that this one was bringing in some things from The Rogue King. I really liked that book.

I'm pretty ambivalent about Drake as a character. He definitely didn't have me swooning for him or anything, but he was a really great guy. One who is dying and continuously tortures himself in order to protect those he cares for the most. Sure he's broody and would rather grunt at you before using words, but that's attractive in it's own way. Isn't it?

I really liked Cami in the beginning. She did the right thing in order to protect her family and was able to learn more about her fate and the world of dragon shifters. She was smart enough to know that she had to be sure before choosing a mate and was in no hurry. She wasn't afraid of Drake and the way she dealt with him was good too. But then she turned all selfish about her family and stupid and it was annoying.

We all knew that Drake was dying, but we didn't really know just how bad it gotten for him. And far too early considering his age. In order to protect his brothers and his sister he makes one of the hardest decisions in his life. Leaving them and going with Rune. By this point, Drake can't even fly by himself and when he arrives at Rune's hideout, he passes out. For a few days. When Drake arrived, he was beyond shocked to see Cami. He had saved her and her family from a fire only a short time before and he had no idea she was a mate. But here she is and she's also the only one willing to deal with his bad attitude to take care of him.

A good chunk of this book takes place inside Rune's hideout. So we see Drake getting all that hostility and not caring one bit. We also get to see Cami interacting with Skylar who is the next female mc in the Inferno Rising tie in series. We get a little bit more Rune here too, but not nearly enough for me. Dare I hope he gets his own book somewhere between these two series? Anyway. During this time Drake and Cami don't so much as get closer per se, but they kind of do. Does that make sense? Drake is also becoming suspicious of some things when he notices that occasionally he doesn't suffer from any of his symptoms.

When Cami hears kind of bad news from her mother is when she becomes selfish and stupid. Selfish because she doesn't care about anything but getting back to them, and stupid because by doing so all she is doing is putting them in danger. Something she doesn't realize AT ALL. Come on, I thought she was smarter than that. But Drake refuses to let her go alone, so it's off they go together. Once they get back to her family's ranch, things only keep getting more and more complicated.

Despite what they feel for each other, Drake is harsh in his pushing Cami away because he thinks he's protecting her. But at the same time his willpower is weak and he always eventually gives in. I will say their love scenes were pretty hot. While at the ranch, Drake catches the scent of an enemy and risks it by going back to his team to warn them. From there things go a little crazy and we get a lot more action. The Alaz team is on their way and the friction between these two teams is high. Toss in Cami being a mate and the mark she bares and it's got explosive possibilities. Now they just have to figure out a way for Drake to mate her without getting him labeled a traitor and dragging his team down with him. But they come up with a plan. It's a risky gamble indeed, but one that pays off. Especially when Rune shows up to play his part.

What I hated was how this ended. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS DECISION.

I like Drake. Liked him from the last book too. This one wasn't quite as exciting as the others were, but it's still Dragons, so it still grabbed my attention. I do wish there had been a bit more action with Drake, a little less moping on his part (snarling I guess would be a better, more manly word, but moping is what he was doing), but I guess it's to be expected considering he's convinced he's dying the whole time.

As for Cami, there really wasn't enough time given to her. She could have turned out to be a strong character, stronger than she was portrayed here, had more time been given to developing her. We got to know her a bit as a strong willed woman who toughed her way through life on a farm with a large family, but it wasn't enough to really get to know her personality.

All in all, I guess this one I'd have to give a 3.7, although I made it a 4 by rounding up. I think there was a lot of backstory, and forward story that was left unsaid, untold. I think Rune almost played a large role in the story but wasn't quite given the chance to really come out, and his crew could have been developed better as well. It almost felt as if Abigail just didn't have a feel for Drake and Cami so couldn't do them justice in this volume.

There seems to be a lot going on in the background, though, and it all needs to catch up with where Inferno Rising is right now. Hopefully, next book, regardless who she concentrates on next, will bring us more backstory, more fleshing out of the world around these guys, and get us more involved with the politics and drama of the Kings and the clans and what's happening with all of them. Hopefully Ms. Owen will give us more than just the build up of the Dragon and his perspective mate (Levi and Lyndi next?) and bring us some real meat to the world she's created. There's so much going on in the background, yet that's where it keeps staying...in the background.

I love your Dragons, Abigail Owen, and I firmly believe they have a story to tell. And while I enjoy some good, solid lovemaking, I need real substance in between love scenes. And I know you can do that because Inferno Rising proved that, as have the first 2 Fire's Edge books, so, please, let's get back to the story behind and around the matings.

As always, Abigail's Dragons come to life for me with their descriptions and their antics. I'm just hoping to see more of their world. Looking forward to seeing who comes next and what you will bring to the table with the next volume.

Drake is a dragon shifter and he's dying because he hasn't found his mate. When a dragon shifter doesn't find his mate, he eventually starts to get weak, sick and die. The process started earlier than it should have for Drake and he knows it's just a matter of time. So he leaves his team mates and takes refuge with Rune who has been helping to keep some female mates safe.

Cami is staying with Rune and the other female mates when Rune brings Drake to stay with them but Drake is not well and very hard to get along with so none of the other people there want to help him. But Cami can see through his gruff exterior and takes it upon herself to help him while he's there. He seems to start to feel better and when she decides to leave to see her family, Drake goes along with her to keep her safe.

Drake and Cami are so different from each other but the chemistry is there for both of them. Cami is so outgoing, so friendly and warm compared to Drake. He just can't help but smile even if it's just to himself at times by some of the things she says or does around him. He's such a gruff curmudgeon but he doesn't want to let anyone get close to him since he knows he's dying. He thinks that even if he finds his mate at this late point it won't be enough to stop the disease from killing him and thus killing his mate in the process so he's decided not to even try.

But Cami doesn't let that stop her from getting under his skin and making him feel something for her. When they are with her family they get a lot closer and she doesn't want to let him just give up but she has a hard time making him see her way of things.

There are political twists going on and so dragons who are actually allies have to be in secret for now until things change or people will be killed. There's danger in this book because of this and I think that these things will get changed as this series goes on. I've read all the books in this series so far and it's been riveting, it's really kept me on the edge of my seat to see what will happen next.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love the Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising series from Abigail Owen. This is the third book in the Fire's Edge series and it builds into what we have already seen and there is a cross over with the first Inferno Rising series (which seems to take place at roughly the same time as this one and there are some cross over events). This book does work as a stand-alone, but really you should read the other books first, just because they are so good.
The Enforcer is Drake, he's never found his mate and now he's slowly dying, even though the degeneration shouldn't have started to take place for another couple of hundred years. Not wanting to endanger his 'family' the Huracán team of dragon enforcers, he leaves them, becoming a rogue dragon. There he meets Camilla, a woman that he had saved previously, not realising that she was a dragon mate.
I loved the romance between Cami and Drake. She not only gives as good as she gets but quite often has the upper hand where Drake is concerned. He's a grumpy old sod and really needs someone who is able to push him out of his comfort zone and challenge him. Of course, being his mate there is a happily ever after here, but they both need to work for it and really find out that they are 'the one' for each other.
I can't wait for more in this series and in Inferno Rising. I think I know who were are going to read about next in both series. I just hope that I haven't got too long to wait until I can.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Smoking hot dragons, yes this book is full of them 🔥

Drake is the main man in this story and his a little gruff, well he has a good reason - his body is dying as he hasn't found his mate in his lifetime.

Cami is a woman with strong family roots, she's also showing signs of being a mate and she seems drawn to Drake.

There are lots of twists in the dragon world, who's good and who's bad, the lines seem to blur sometimes but keeps you intrigued.

The love and lust between Cami and Drake is hot, and all that I'm saying is Dragon tongue magic ♥️

This is a flaming good read.

Drake is dying. As a non mated almost 800-year-old Dragon shifter, his body is failing him. With difficulty he decided to go rogue and live in hiding with Rune with other rogues and mates needing protection from the Alliance. There he just wants to die in peace.
He doesn't expect to find there Cami, a woman he saved from a fire months ago, and haven't been able to put out of his mind. The fact that she is a dragon mate doesn't change a thing as he is persuaded that his fated mate would just die along with him so he vowed to stay alone.
However Cami is convinced that they are true mates, she just needs to make him see that she could be his salvation and not his doom.

This book was nothing like what I expected. When we met Drake in the previous books I thought to myself: ok this one will be boring. But I was so wrong!
I loved Drake, such a fierce warrior. Most of all I loved Cami. I loved how close she was to her family and would do anything for them. As soon as she got the feeling that Drake was her mate she was set to prove him wrong and show him she didn't care about his illness.
Drake was protective and badass, and once he figured out Cami wouldn't go anywhere he embraced their fate.
There was romance, and tears and action, and I might even have loved this couple more than the previous ones in this series :)

The Enforcer (Fire's Edge series) by Abigail Owen

Description.....

When Drake learns Cami bears his mark—the same mark as the High King—he refuses to believe she’s meant to be his. It’s too late. How could he turn Cami only to take her with him to the grave? At the same time, he can’t walk away. Hiding her from the corrupt, rotting High King might be the last honorable thing Drake ever does with the little time he has left.

Each book in the Fire's Edge series is STANDALONE:
* The Mate (prequel)
* The Boss
* The Rookie
* The Enforcer

And the spin off series:
*The Rogue King (Inferno Rising)

My Review......

I’ve read the other books in this series.
You don’t have to read the others, but it helps, it gives a little insight into where the story and characters are going (there is a story that loosely connects the books)

A quick recap ..... there are six coloured dragon kings who rule their kingdoms (as usual there is conflict) this is where the “enforcers” come in, a team of dragons (each comprising of the colours) they “police” the dragon world, dispensing justice to rogue dragons. (These dragons set fires in the human world) the enforcers go in as firemen and put out the fires (but not with hoses, they draw the fire into themselves) They don’t interact with the humans, if they have to, they wipe their memories. The humans can’t know about them.

The dragon world don’t have fertile female dragons, so they mate human women, but these women are special, if they can accept the fire a dragon breathes into them, then their life forces are connected. And the female will be able to turn into a dragon. A forced mating will kill the woman, but desperate times are making dragons force the issue. And so a band of rogue dragons are trying to rescue human women before they are taken!!!

I’ve liked Drake since reading about him in the first book, a rough and gruff dragon, one you don’t want to cross, but a loyal friend and an awesome fighter. But Drake is hiding a secret from his brothers (the dragons he calls family) he’s dying. When a dragon gets to a certain age he’s struck with a disease, and Drake has been battling it for a while. A mate could probably reverse the process, but Drake is too far gone, and if he was to find her, he won’t sentence her to an early death (their life forces are joined so when one dies, the other joins their mate). The best Drake can hope for is to die in battle or fighting a fire. Or the only other option is going rogue and forcing his team to end him.

A fire is closing in on Camilla “Cami” and her family, and the stupid herd of goats she’s trying to save aren’t helping. She hasn’t got long, and when the fire threatens to consume her beloved family, Cami has no choice but leave the goats and return to the car. But they won’t make it, they need a miracle, how will they get out of this alive?

Drake is in the vicinity (he’s fighting the fire that a rogue dragon started) he’s got no choice but rescue the family trapped but the fire. What he doesn’t bank on is the feisty female who demands he doesn’t hurt her family. (He doesn’t eat humans in his dragon form) He turns from dragon to man, and then wipes all of their minds (he’s reluctant to wipe the woman’s mind, but no one can know about dragons) setting them on their way shouldn’t bother him, but the thought of letting the woman go, pains him, he pushes himself to let her go .....

Cami is in trouble, not long after somehow escaping the fire they were racing away from, she began to emit sparks from her body (strong emotions usually caused it) she’s scared, how did this happen? Why is this happening? Maybe she’s gone crazy, maybe there is something wrong with her!! Coming face to face with death has changed her, but not to this extent surely? Cami needs answers, and they come in the form of a stranger. He calmly explains that she’s a potential mate for a dragon!! Yeah right!! Until he shows his dragon form to her!! She doesn’t really believe him, but at this point she doesn’t really have another answer.

Cami and Drake meet up again, but she doesn’t know who he is (but she thinks she knows him) Drake knows her, and he’s stunned, she was a dragon mate, how could he not have known? Probably the disease that is now ravaging his body. He’s left the only family he’s known and had come to Rune (the traitor dragon who steals potential mates from the Alliance) He needs a purpose until he can’t fight anymore (oh I forgot to tell you, Rune use to be his friend and second in command to the team Drake was in)

Cami is sure she is Drake’s mate, Drake knows it deep down she is too, but he’s not going to claim her, she could die if he’s wrong, she could die if he did mate her, he won’t sentence Cami to death. So in Drake manner he keeps pushing her away.

The story is a fast paced action read. The Alliance is not happy that Rune keeps helping human women evade them. And they are suspicious of the Huracan (that’s the name of the group) they keep finding women and mating them (law states they have to come to the a Alliance and receive a mate!!)

I like this series and I can’t wait to read the next one. I like we keep in touch with previous mates couples. We have a group of unmated dragons (and now a few rogue dragons) that fight fires and an Alliance that is watching them carefully.

The Enforcer (Fire's Edge Book 4) by Abigail Owen
This is a “DRACARYS” HOT romance that will heat you up!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Enforcer is about a dragon shifter (Drake) who has split loyalties between his law enforcer team and the rogue dragon Rune who harbors and shelters dragon mates to save them from the corrupt and murderous King. Finding and mating your one true mate is the only thing that can save and lengthen a male dragons life but, once mated, if one mate dies so does the other.
Drake is dying, centuries too soon, with his body failing him he has left the Enforcers to live out what little time he has left at Runes hideout where he can be alone.
Cami is more than a little upset to find her body is shooting out sparks, starting little fires everywhere! Now to top it all off she is face to face with a huge black dragon named Rune telling her she is a dragon mate and soon to become a dragon herself. Now, she’s down right pis**d she has to leave her family and go into hiding for her safety, before the King hears of her existence.
Drake just wants to be left alone so he can die in peace but, the little spitfire Cami is drawn to Drake and she’s not afraid of him like everyone else. No matter what comes out of his nasty mouth, she keeps coming back around to take care of him, whether he likes it or not.
The storyline is edgy and engaging with excitement, suspense, danger, betrayal, and twist and turns that kept me reading. The author expertly delivered a deep emotion that brought me to tears at one point and made me laughing at another. Great complex character’s including deep dark bruiting male dragon shifters and confident, brave, and witty females. The romance is searingly HOT, raw, passionate, and emotional. I love the romance but my favorite thing about this book is the clever, witty, and humorous banter between the characters! I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Happy Reading ♥️

Content Note: Adult Rated
Some reader may be offended by the strong explicit language, and the steamy hard core sex scenes with very explicit descriptions and words. Earning 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 out of 5 flames!

I liked the central romance in this one between Drake and Camila but the story suffers from trying to tell too many other stories at the same time. The author has two simultaneous series - Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising. This is part of Fire's Edge, a group of firefighting dragons who work as forestry hotshot smokejumpers, dealing with man made and dragon made fires.

Drake has an incurable early aging disease that is weakening him, and the only way it will abate is if he finds his proper mate. That's problematic since mating with the wrong dragon-shifter woman could kill her, so he can't take chances on the wrong woman. It turns out that Camila, whom he saves from a deadly fire is showing signs of being a dragon shifter herself and could be the right woman, but for the two of them to take a chance on each other will be a test of faith.

Their romance is definitely a steamy one, but it gets convoluted by the addition of lots of other characters some of whom are from the Inferno Rising series (which is about four sisters, daughters of a Phoenix shifter who could save the dragon clans if they mate with the right Kings). There are also parts of the story told from secondary character viewpoints. I found it confusing at times trying to keep characters straight (not always sure who are the good guys and the bad guys), and as i hadn't read the previous book in the Fire's Edge series, there were events referred to that weren't well explained (at least not to my understanding). So it's a 3 star read for me - still enjoyable, but could have used a glossary of characters to keep things straight.

I love a down trodden hero story! Make it paranormal and I just want to sigh..... This is the 3rd book in the series and although it could be read as a stand alone, I think it is helpful to read them in order in order to understand the world building.

Drake is dying and he wants to do whatever he can to ease his passing on his band of brothers and his baby sister. He does not feel worthy to have a mate and is determined to be growly and pushy so no one gets close.

After saving Camilla and her family, he doesn't think he will see her again. Little does he know that his dying wish--to go away with the Rogue dragons, will bring him back to Cami again. Cami is drawn to him as well. turns out, mates can save one another. Now, Cami just needs to convince Drake he is worthy.

Lots of political intrigue in this one. This series merges characters with the author's King series so reading both with help round out the story. I am looking forward to all of the enforcer's getting their HEA. Interesting characters and all of them are ready to tell the powers that be that the old ways are not going to work any more.

Loved this one!

This is the first book I have read by this author. I must admit that I enjoyed it so much. Drake is coming to the end of his life. Knowing he has no hope of finding a mate he leaves his brothers behind only find the woman he rescued from a fire months before. Drake knows that Camilla is human so the draw he feels for her doesn't make sense. While Camilla bears the mark of a dragon mate she does believe in dragons. Is she now his savior or is his decline to far.

This book drew me in from beginning to end. I found myself on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened next. In fact I loved this so much I went and purchased the other three so I can catch up the series. Drake is everything that life long book boyfriends are made and Abigail Owen reminded me why I love paranormal romance so much.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Drake is in the last stages of his life. He is a dragon and they die of a wasting disease if they don't find their mate in time to save them. He leaves his dragon brothers and ends up finding Camilla. Camilla is the human woman he saved from a fire months ago. Camilla has lost almost everything and she has the mating mark. Drake recognizes her as his mate but is it too late to save him? Will Camilla come around to finding out about the dragons and accept Drake? A wonderful read that kept me interested and excited to find out what happened until the end.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

The third book in Fire’s Edge, The Enforcer, Abigail Owens has delivered a well delivered story with dynamic characters and a compelling storyline. A great addition to the series and one I will be recommending.

This one sat better with me than the previous book. I always like dark and broody men, add in a dragon shifter and we have hit the trifecta!

Drake, a Huracan enforcer, is dying. He has been hiding it from his team and his sister but he is deteriorating at a faster rate than he expected so he has to fess up. He leaves with Rune only to come into contact with Cami. The woman he rescued, along with her family and goats, from a fire the previous summer.

Cami is the only one who isn’t afraid of Drake and his attitude. She feels a connection to him even though all he does is growl at her. Rune has taught her everything possible so when she asks if Drake is her mate all he says is to be sure.

Cami cares for Drake while he is weak. He hates it, plain and simple. However, she refuses to give up on him even when he makes it clear she is a nuisance to him. But when she plans to leave to go back to her family, something other mates don’t have, he feels like it is his responsibility to protect her.

Leaving the safety Rune has provided for them starts a chain of events that even I didn’t expect. From ghouls to bear shifters to being attacked by the alliance, it is definitely a ride for sure!

The chemistry between Cami and Drake is believable and flows nicely. She is the yin to his yang and exactly what he and his ailing body needs! While this is another story that is 2 mates going against the alliance, it is also now where the alliance is using them to their advantage. Red dragon mates keep being stolen from Pytheios but do you really think he cares when the real prize is out there? Nope. But he will use these dragons anyway he sees fit.

This books is definitely one of the more enjoyable ones but I also like when males are outgoing and jokey at the same time, so bring on Levi and Lyndi!

In the fourth book in the Fire’s Edge series, Huracán enforcer Drake Chandali is suffering from degenerating nerve loss since he’s an umated dragon shifter. The only thing that can save his life is finding his destined mate, but the only woman he’s interested in is a human. So he gives up his team and joins Rune, a rogue dragon, expecting to live out the rest of his short life in solitude.
After Camilla Carrillo exhibit signs that she’s a dragon mate, she leaves her family behind to protect them and finds shelter with Rune and his other rogue dragons. There she reunites with Drake, a man she doesn’t quite remember but feels a strong connection to.
Drake and Cami are my favorite characters so far in this series. He’s so grumpy, stoic, and honorable, and she’s the toughest heroine yet. They connected easily despite the obstacles between them (especially Drake’s hardheadedness), and the sex scenes were scorching!
Rune, Finn, Levi, and the rest of the enforcer team were great as usual. I’m definitely interested in learning more Skyler and her uncle Tyrek. The secret rogue base in the Andes was pretty cool.
Even though I enjoyed the story and wanted to rate it five stars, everything leading to the final battle/climax was hard to follow. Drake, Cami, Rune, and the Huracán team were weaving so many false stories to tell the Alaz team and the Alliance that I couldn’t keep all the lies straight. Even after everything was settled, I still had questions.
Anyway, Ms. Owen’s writing style is full of description and emotions. She comes up with some fascinating similes and metaphors that make me smile. Even though all the books in the Fire’s Edge series are standalones, the spin-off series, Inferno Rising, is taking place at the same time as this one. I’m looking forward to reading those and the next book in this series.

I was honestly surprised with how much I liked this book. That's not to say I wasn't expecting to like it, but I didn't get much of a feel for Blake in previous books and I haven't been too fond of the leading ladies so far, but this time around... wow.

Cami, to me, was amazing. She thought things out, she didn't start random fights, she didn't get unnecessarily stubborn, she didn't constantly say things like "I can take care of myself!" She didn't do any of the things so many heroines seem to do in books like these where they don't listen to the people who know best and just insist on doing everything when they shouldn't. Cami actually took the time to listen to the people trying to help her, she never seemed to jump to conclusions, she took things as they came and adapted as needed. The only place she got stuck was when it came to her family, but she's also one of the rare mates who actually has living family and her family is very tight knit so it made sense and fit the situation.

Then we get Drake. He was in a tough spot throughout the entire book, so even when he'd take a step forward, often he'd take two steps back, but we still got to see him grow and open up and it was great. He very much needed someone like Cami, grounded and practical but willing to tease and pull Drake out of his shell. It was wonderful.

The political intrigue and drama, along with some nods to the events in The Rogue King, were great touches and I can't wait to see what happens next in both this series and the Inferno Rising series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5 Stars)

Okay, this has officially been my favorite of the Fire’s Edge series so far! What can I say—I’m a total sucker for grumpy/sunshine, and Drake just did something to me. 🥵

In this book, we also get a little more insight into Rune, and even some of his perspective, which I loved. His story has been so intriguing to follow. I was surprised to see Skylar show up with Rune and his team—it took me a second to remember who she was and why she mattered. That moment alone reinforced how important it is to follow Abigail Owen’s recommended reading order. Seeing how all the stories interconnect and already knowing little bits of what’s to come just makes it all so much more fun.

I love that everything has now caught up to the ending of The Rogue King, and I’m really excited to see how things play out from here. Like I’ve said before, I’m really hoping that by the end of these two series, we get to see everyone come back together and get their happy endings.

For now, I’m jumping into The Blood King (Inferno Rising) and already looking forward to getting back to Fire’s Edge with The Protector—which I’m assuming is going to be Levi and Lyndi’s story (and I can’t wait).

Drake is dying much sooner than any unmated dragon shifter should. After leaving his team behind to protect them from his unstoppable fate, he runs into the woman he hasn’t stopped thinking about since he saved her from a fire months ago. She wasn’t human like he’d thought, but a dragon mate. Could the fates be so cruel as to give him what he’d been searching for now that it’s already too late to heal him?

Drake was a lovable grump and Cami his feisty sunshine. I enjoyed the conflict in this story—the desire for a fated connection warring with the risk that they both could die when he does. It also had the added complication of danger to her human family, who couldn’t know about the dragon shifter world, something not explored in other books I’ve read in this series.

The other members of the team continue to be a source of fun banter and loyal brotherhood.

Fun read! Can’t wait to keep going with this series.

In this book of the series we finally get Drake's turn to find a mate, and happy lady Cami who likes to talk is the perfect fit for stoic little talker Drake.

We get more action from the team as they fight fires, we see more of Rune and his rescued mates and the Alaz team show their real colours to the team and the Alliance interfere with the running of things.

Cami is a strong character, very family orientated with strong beliefs. Cami is the only person who can tolerate Drake when Rune brings him into his caves as he leaves his team in order to die quietly away from them. However, with the nearness of Cami, Drake starts to feel and get better, not that he notices at first.

When Cami decides she has to go back home to help her family, Rune and Skylar, Cami's friend, engineer it that Drake will find Cami as she tries to leave and get Drake to volunteer to be her bodyguard until he dies.

Of course there are complications and Drake finds he and his Dragon want more from Cami, but he can't. Not until he finds that her touch is what is helping him back to a place he has not felt in years and especially when he finds that the Alaz team is after her.

Really enjoyed this book and meeting new family members and getting more from previous team members, their mates and other members yet to get their own stories.

Another great one! If you've gotten this far, I suggest you stop and go to Abigail's web site and get the reading order, between the Fire's Edge series and Inferno Rising series. The story line/plot are intertwined. I've read the first 3 of the Fire's Edge series before I decided to go to her page. Right now I only need to go back one book and read the, "The Rogue King" (Inferno Rising #1), then I will be on track to read the story line in order. You can read each book in each series as a stand alone and it will still be good, but you will have to add the book you missed in your head for anything you might of not understood as you were reading a different book.

While I still don’t like the basic world building when it comes to mates and biology, I’m enjoying the team, the complex relationships, and the magic with the fire. Camilla and Drake are a great couple, both strong characters who make one another better. Well, Camilla makes Drake better and Drake makes Camilla a dragon. Camilla is perfect as she is besides that. But Camilla calls Drake on all his shit and challenges him. Enjoyable read.

Drake is sick and knows he's dying. He leaves the Hurcan team and turns to a former enemy for a place to die. There is meets Camilla again. He rescued her and her family during a wildfire. Drake feels better when he's near her, but refuses to believe that she is his mate. They have to go back to help her family, and The Alliance is interfering with stuff again. When will these guys go away. Maybe the other series (Inferno Rising) and the new kings will get rid of them.

The Enforcer (Fire’s Edge, #3) by Abigail Owen This book was pretty much more of the same as the previous entries in this series. Interesting enough and I liked the characters but nothing that really blew my skirts up. Still, glad I stumbled across this series and that I could check them out from Hoopla. 3.5 stars
