Ice Planet Barbarians #14

Barbarian's Rescue

Rate this book
Bad day? Try mine on for size.
Rogue slavers have landed on the ice planet and captured the tribe. The only ones not snatched? Me, a walking human motormouth with no skill except that of incoherent babbling, and Warrek, who's as silent as he is attractive. Two more unlikely people have never been paired together.

And now we're supposed to form a rescue team.

Saving the others is either going to bring us closer together - or drive us completely apart. I'm pretty sure the feelings I'm having for my alien companion are as unrequited as they are inappropriate, but since we aren't going to make it out alive, what harm is one teeny, tiny kiss?

Who knew that one kiss could change everything?

5 Warrek and Summer Stars

May have spoilers

OMG this whole book had me on edge. Slaver Aliens were back. They captured the group that was at Elder's Cave expect for Summer and Warrek who went to get fruit from the fruit cave. Warrek the super quiet, calm, thoughtful, and levelheaded alien always in the background. He almost never said anything, and every move he made was purposeful. Summer was a chatterbox. She couldn't shut up to save her life. The more nervous she got the more she would spit verbal diarrhea. Her rambling was really funny. Warrek and Summer were totally opposites, but they had a ton of chemistry.

I loved sweet, stoic Warrek. I loved the wild beast he was in the furs. I loved how he would be quiet to get Summer to talk because he liked the sound of her voice. I just really loved Warrek. Summer was adorable. She just talked everyone's ear off. Super smart Summer would get anxious and would fill the silence with one subject after another. I loved that she took charge and made the plan that saved the others. She was very selfless, caring and brave. Summer and Warrek were so damn cute together. I loved their relationship, and the way their personalities complemented each other. Both Warrek and Summer kicked some bad alien ass and saved the day.

I felt so bad for the gang that got captured. They were so traumatized especially poor sweet little Rukhar and Elly. While being held by the bad aliens something happened between Brooke and Taushen that I think we will dive deeper into in the next book. Poor Mardok was mourning the loss of his old crew. Kate's Mr Fluffypuff was declawed by the bad aliens(jerks) and now he's got the booboo paws. There was a new discovery of 20 slaves on the Tranquil Lady. Talk about being shocked. 16 new human women and 4 alien men. What does that mean for the tribe? Poor Vektal and Georgie they were under so much stress. Overall this book was a great book in a series full of great books.

Chatterbox Summer and tall, blue and silent Warrek.

You do not find my horns erotic?”
“Should I?” A worried look crosses her face. “I mean, they’re great horns, and I’m not trying to insult. I just like your hair so much better. Not that you would look better without horns. I think you look great with them. I’m just not used to judging horns, and I don’t know what a good horn looks like compared to a bad horn, and I’m babbling, aren’t I?” She gives me a chagrined smile.
“You are.” I lean in to kiss her lightly. “But I do not mind it.”

Another first-class addition to the alien-smut of the Ice Planet Barbarians world.

Slavers have landed at the ice planet and only Summers and Warrek can save the captured sa-khui and their mates.

It is time for Summers to shine and prove that not only she has a nonstop mouth, but she also has a very sharp mind.
It is time for Warrek to claim his pleasure mate.

Everything will be alright in the end, but the series has another twist as more humans and aliens are added at the planet and soon at the tribe.

Highlight of the book: The blue barbarians discover the "she-spot" (i.e. the "G-spot") and they become overenthusiastic about it.

Barbarian’s abducted!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📔📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 🙂😮😥😤🥰

The heroine: Summer - she is a geeky girl who knows she talks too much. She is tiny and has long dark hair and golden skin. She somehow ends up going to the fruit cave with Warrek. They don’t really know each other and she ends up taking offense at everything he says and does.

The Hero(es): Warrek - He is a hunter and knows the value of being quiet. He can’t understand a female like Summer who talks so much. Though it doesn’t really bother him, he likes her chatter and finds her to be intelligent. With him being so quiet, he sees that she thinks he doesn’t like her but he does.

The Story: This one is a diversion from the rest of the series that I have read and listened to so far. In this book, the spaceship returns. The same ship that dropped off some of the women on the Ice Planet when the ship started having some sort of technical problem. In this book, it returns and captures the whole tribe except Summer and Warrek.

Summer and Warrek were away at the fruit cave when the ship landed and go back towards the elders cave where they see the aliens taking everyone captive. They know they have to somehow mount a rescue. This one has more action than many of the others I have read and I really liked the story.

-“I’m kind of invisible to men.”
-“How do they not see you? Is it because you are not very tall?”
The last time things got so interesting was during the earthquake and at that time the whole tribe worked together to find a solution. Now only Summer and Warrek were there to rescue the rest of the tribe from the slavers.

These two couldn’t be more opposite, Summer couldn’t stop talking every time she felt uneasy, Warrek on the other hand was shy and could spend hours without saying a word. But that didn’t stop them, I loved the way Summer managed to coax Warrek out of his shell and made him communicate more.

The only thing I didn’t like in this book was the chess references. Not only was it stereotypical for Summer who is Asian to play chess, but also, I don’t think those references were a nice match for the erotic scenes.

Two words: She-spot.
LMAO. Plus, things are introduced that might take this series in a new direction. I have been waiting for quiet Warreck's story and loved his pairing with Summer, the girl with the verbal diarrhea. This book has many amusing moments and is never bogged down with seriousness. Loved Summer's can-do attitude. She surprised me and herself.

New things happening… again

Welp… that beginning was chaotic. I thought I was gonna have to start mourning characters I’ve loved 😭, but I’m glad that that’s not the case 👏🏻 and that we have new potential characters 👀.

Summer (22) and Warrek (54) are together when all of a sudden they see The Tranquil Lady back. A few books ago, it was clear that it would never come back, 🤷🏻‍♀️ so why is it here?

We get answers as soon as creatures come out of the ship and start blasting our beloved characters that are near it 😭, and Summer and Warrek watch this all happen 😭. Thankfully, they were just temporarily paralyzed. The creature is doing all this are planning to enslave our characters 😭.

But Summer and Warrek have a plan 👏🏻, and their plan is successful 👏🏻.

How? Well, Summer knows how to play chess 😉; it’s all about planning and timing 💅.

See??? Knowing how to play games CAN be helpful 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣.

What I liked/loved: POSSIBLE SPOILERS
—how all in Warrek is when it comes to Summer 🫶🏻. I love how dedicated these males are ❤️and Warrek is no different 🥹 plus. He admires Summer’s bravery, and he makes it a point to emphasize that 🥹

—the 🔥. So… it takes a whiiiile to get to it, but at least it happens more than once 😅 (unlike the more recent IPB 😐😒🤣🤣🤣). Their first REAL kiss happens at almost 50% followed by Warrek exploring Summer’s body (in all ways 🥵 with fingers and tongue and everything 💦😮‍💨) by 60%. They have full 🔥 a little after 80% but don’t resonate until the end of the book (96%?). I love how much Warrek wants to learn about Summer 😉🔥

—the. G. Spot scenes 🫠 and Warrek telling the guys about it so that the other females feel the same 💦 as Summer 🤣👀👏🏻. I’m ALLLL about educating others 😉🫠

—he loves to eat cereal 🥵

—Summer is the epitome of SUNSHINE 🤣🤣🤣. This girl doesn’t stop talking 🤣 and it helps especially with the aliens. Warrek ends up becoming more of a chatterbox than we thought 👏🏻

—how protective he is 🫶🏻. Look. All the males are, and Warrek is no exception ❤️ especially when he wants to make sure Summer is warm 🥹

—the chess references 👏🏻. Gaaaahhh. My nerdy heart was eating this up 👏🏻

—MINEMINEMINE 😉

—RESONANCE 🥹 I always love those scenes

—dual v’s ❤️

—RUKH!!! I always need more of him ❤️🫶🏻🥹 the way he would lay down his life for his Harlow 😭 I can’t get enough of him 😭❤️

What I wanted more of: SPOILERS
—more relationship development 😅. It takes about 30% before we move on from the drama that happens in the beginning, which is FINE, but man, I was missing out on seeing more of them together and the tension building 😅

—I’m a little nervous about all these women that were in the pods 😒. I hope we don’t get owd 😐. It’s been nice not having any in allll these books

Overall, I loved it ❤️

Reread audio 10/25/21:
Warrek (and N'dek) are top tierrrrr.

~~~
Yo.
Warrek is my kind of guy. Wtf. 5 stars.
✨Silent-type hero
✨Badass, Asian heroine who talks a lot and loves chess (I just got off the Queen’s Gambit high so I may be biased)
✨Friends-to-lovers (ish). They both team up and take down a spaceship of bad guys. Power couple move.
What's not to love?
Aun sigo sorprendida de que esta saga mantenga el ritmo ( y mi interes ) despues de 14 libros, ya que por lo general en una serie con tantas novelas como esta despues de un tiempo empieza a perder frescura y todo se vuelve un poco menos ameno, pero con estas historias eso aun no ha sucedido y eso que practicamente estoy leyendo los libros uno detras de otro, sin dejar demasiados dias entre medias.
Esta parte en concreto me resulto un tanto diferente a su antecesora, principalmente porque en esta ocasion hay mucha mas accion que en la historia de Kate y Harrec, y eso que en determinado momento se me paso por la mente que Barbarian' s Rescue quizas seria una lectura un poco sosa y sin gracia, pero por suerte no fue ese el caso.
Warrek y Summer son una pareja encantadora, divertida y con mucha chispa, mi unico pero es que me hubiera gustado leer mas escenas romanticas entre ellos pero entiendo la necesidad de que gran parte de la novela se centrara en otros temas mas importantes.
La siguiente parte no me llama tanto la atencion como me gustaria, particularmente porque la proxima pareja no me causa mucha curiosidad pero la empezare pronto porque quiero saber como se desarrollan los nuevos descubrimientos que sucedieron en este libro.
En fin, una historia que esta a la altura de sus predecesoras y que continua siendo amena y refrescante.
3 Estrellas!
2nd time reading is really better. I know where this is going - towards the origin of the Icehome series and now I am not even mad about it.
It's so nice to see the original crew back. I cannot express my relief. Summer and Warrek, there couldn't be more opposite pair existing. Summer is a nervous babbler and Warrek is a strong, silent type so we have quite a colorful personality match.
And who knew Chess could be so sexy and dirty game!
Amazing, and keep more coming...
This is still good, but I feel like this is way too short, and Summer and Warrek didn't have much time together to get to know one another on an emotional level. Physical, though? Yup, 1000%. They went at it like bunnies. For two virgins, they sure as crap know what they're doing. I guess they're fast learners and all.
Also, the ending felt so rushed, and the epilogue was not even from one of the MCs POV. This is actually one of my pet peeves: when the epilogue of a story is used to give a glimpse of the next book's first chapter. Why can't this just be written as a different chapter? I needed the epilogue for the MCs future and nothing more.
Moving on, character wise I love them both. They complement each other with their personality and I love how they're both all in despite not resonating at all. I also enjoyed the kidnapping attempt of Summer. At least this girl knows how to keep what hers. 😂 I love how Warrek was so always eager to please his woman and how he learned things quickly for her. Ngl, the age thing did bother me because he's so old but they're aliens and they have longer life. If they were humans, 56 and 22 is big NO for me.
Overall, I had a fun time reading it. Off to the next one.
Genius!! The G-spot will forever be renamed as “The She-spot” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
But seriously, I quite like Summer & Warrek as a couple, she definitely is a smart cookie, has steel ovaries & a natural protector too!!
I’d be giggling my a** off too: “Georgie giggles into her broth. “I’m picturing oh-so-serious Warrek being kidnapped by a small human woman.””🤭🤭🤭
🤔I thought he cut off his horns when his Dad died?? (their custom of bereavement)…sooo, if anything, he’d have nubs from re-growth, right??
❤️❤️❤️ I loved this, and yes- I gasped with sooo much excitement for her❣️❣️❣️…ok, and I squealed too🤣🤭💋💋💋
He steps closer to me. He leans in, his long, silky hair fluttering as he does. Slowly, he brushes his knuckles over one of my cheeks and then presses his mouth to mine. “If we survive this night, I am claiming you as my pleasure-mate.”
I gasp. “You—you what? Youare?”
He nods. “You will show me this kiss with tongue, and I will take you to my furs and make you mine. I have decided.”
“Decided?” I echo, stunned. I can still feel the light brush of his lips againstmine.
“Yes. You are my opponent, and I am going to take control of your board.”
That’s the sexiest, most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard.
Now how am I supposed to concentrate?
He totally payed attention to her geeky chessboard talk❣️❣️❣️
I love this series and I always appreciate that Ruby Dixon finds new twists and new ways to add to this series that seemed (at the beginning) to a certain end once everyone on the planet received their happy ending. In this book we start were book 14 took place. several of the tribe are at their home, some are at the ship and Summer and Werrek are picking fruit. Summer is the small girl who can't seem to keep her mouth closed. I't too quite she talks, nervous she talks. So being with Werrek who never talks is too much for Summer. When they see a ship land and then aliens comet and take their friends Werrek and Summer know they are the only option to save them.
Working together Summer finds that Werrek isn't just a quiet hunter he's a lot more including someone she wants to spend time with. Werrek has noticed Summer and spending time with her has beens something he enjoys. Making plans to save their tribe beings them closer together and soon Werrek can't imagine being with any female besides Summer. Deciding to be together is an easy decision for them both but when their cooties stay silent they both worry what the future holds.
When a discovery is made it sends the entire tribe reeling and now their world is about to change, but all Summer and Werrek care about is each other.
I really liked this book. Summer was sweet and smart. Werrek was quiet but once he realized who Summer was to him all bets were off. I also really liked why is was ok with being quite around Summer(it was very sweet). I think the story around this book is a greta Segway into more books to come and I love the twist in this book. I can' wait to see what happens next. I will say I liked the story so much I wish we had gotten more, but I am assuming we will se more in the next book.
I also really liked the peak into the next book we get nice little glimpses into the next books characters and I am really excited for it. One thing is sure there s a lot thats shaken up in this book and I can't wait to see what happens next so much is in the air and so many changes are coming. I really love how Ruby Dixon is keeping us on our toes with this series.
I love, love love, Ice Planet Barbarians...the entire series.... I detest Summer.... she has to be the worst character out of all of the characters. I don't care if she means well...she is beyond annoying... and she could have gotten them all killed by her careless actions. She is supposed to be smart? She is dumb! She never thinks...just opens her mouth and spews.... no matter if someone is hurt she just goes off.
I don't like people like her. Sigh... so I never liked her w/Warrek.... I just could not sympathize w/her nor connect on any level w/her. I guess she is just young, and mouthy, and annoying to me.
I really did not like the way she described sex between her and Warrek...it was like she was a teenager... sigh... I know thousands will disagree w/me and that is okay. We all see different things in these stories.
You know what? I kinda wish I stopped reading this series at Beks book.
I’m getting bored. I just think it’s time for me to quit.
When 20 more new people were introduced I wasn't even excited. I'd rather have a time jump and read the kits books. I can’t go on for another 20 books with new people. I got half way through this and I started skimming. Even the sex scenes with the constant g-spot mentions was non erotic
So my first time with a guy and I totally squirted. I’m pretty sure he finger-banged the brains out of me
Yeah I think i’m gonna take a break from this now.
I liked it enough, as it hits all the usual happy places that a good Planet Blue Balls book does. However, the “rescue” part of the book was probably the least fun (aka a bit boring) for me, and the romance between Summer and Warrek is sweet but nothing Not-Hoth shattering. I’m still on this crazy Sakhui ride and since the ‘verse is continuing to grow, I’m ready to see what could possibly be next for our favorite Barbarians.
➕ What I liked :
Somewhat interesting main characters.
(opposites attracts … Very quiet hero and very chatty heroine.)
OK plot.
(A little more action in this book.)
OK romantic build up and chemistry.
Good teamwork/synergism between the couple.
(How they worked together to help each other and help their people/tribe.)
Chinese-American heroine.
➖ What I disliked :
Big age difference between the main characters. (Hero 50+ heroine 20+)
(Even if the Sa-khui have a different/longer lifespan …. it is a big age difference between the hero and the heroine.... but that is also a preference thing)
The heroine was a little too insecure about herself. (mostly about her looks/appearance and feeling invisible/boring etc. etc.)
Repetitive.
(Especially with the words delicate/fragile and slight/small and how these words are used to describe the heroine in different ways over and over.)
Formulaic in the character description/character choice: small/little “delicate” human and Huge hulking/buff alien.
(Would have been/Would be really interesting to maybe see much more variety in the character descriptions/character choices…. Even if there is some diversity/variety in the female main characters in these books/series the majority is still mostly the same size/shape: short/shorter or petite and slim/slender and the male main characters are also rather similar in size/shape.)
Some parts are a little too similar with past books in the series … which makes the book repetitive/formulaic.
Some parts were a little over the top.
The main characters were kind of interesting but they needed more depth.
Notes:
- Very quiet Warrek and chatty Summer make for a fun opposites attract steam fest
- At the end of the last book, Summer and Warrek go fruit-gathering and see the ship that brought the most recent batch of human women (Summer among them) to the ice planet returning - seems that the orange dudes from the earlier books hijacked the ship, killed its occupants, and returned to the last coordinates in the travel log; they take the group at the "Elder's Cave" hostage, and it is up to Summer & Warrek to save the day
- Solid steamy goodness; H v-card
Plot --- 3.5/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 4/5
Steam Level* --- 4/5
Violence --- nothing overly graphic (they kill some aliens that try to kidnap them)
Language --- yes! (lots of f-bombs and c-bombs)
POV --- Dual
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all
This one a bit over the top for me. Summer is cute though I was hoping she'd turn out to be a closet ninja. Sadly no. Warrek is a pretty lovable guy but for me lacked dimension. Their relationship? Meh.
I did find several things interesting in this book. The introduction of more pod people presents an interesting dilemma to the tribe. One that Dixon treats with appropriate weight. It also for the first time produces some tension within the idyllic tribe--innocence lost. Finally, I liked that Dixon devoted time to explaining why Georgie has become in recent books a rather imperious bitch. Her change in character was begging for explanation.
The next book in this series will I think be a test. I worry that in further expanding the tribe, introducing a new race to the series, and taking away some of the tribe's innocence Dixon is introducing too much complexity to manage in this charming series. We'll see how she handles it in the next book.
I love Summer and Warrek! This book was more action-heavy, as Summer and Warrek have to rescue others who have been captured by a slavers. This is like... almost a 4. You know what? I'm bumping it up!
They're complete opposites - Summer is young and a super chatty nervous rambler. Warrek is older (56, although "years" are different and sakhui are long-lived) and very quiet - he almost never talks, has never tried to take a pleasure mate, and fills his loneliness by teaching kits (children of the tribe).
There were so many moments that made me laugh out loud.
1. "Did you have a pleasure-mate back on your home world?"
She looks startled at my questions. "Pleasure-mate?" she eventually asks, the sound strangled. "I...no. I'm kind of invisible to men."
Invisible? My knowledge of their language tells me that this word means she is unseen and ignored. How is this so? She talks all the time. "How do they not see you? Is it because you are not very tall?"
2. [This is after Summer kills a bad guy]
I cry over it, too, but just a little, and only when I think Warrek isn't looking. I don't want him to think I'm a wuss.
I mean, I am a wuss, I just don't want him to think it.
3. [The first time they cuddle at night]
"Just a little mustard," she murmurs. "No, I didn't say I wanted a sandwich. Just mustard. That's right. You can put it on the side of my plate."
Strange, though charming. I find it comforting that even in her sleep, she talks.
4. Summer tells Warrek about the g-spot which all the aliens call the she-spot because they can't pronounce the "g" sound
Wow, I can’t believe I am on book 14. I’ve never been so invested into the series. This series has been high and low for me. I happy to say this one wasn’t so bad. For one, the angst was low, the drama was low and it was overall a pleasant read. A bit too much of descriptive writing, but I liked that it was light.
I like the two main characters. The Heroine is a chatty box, kind of quirky and just cute. The Hero doesn’t speak much but when he does, it means something.
I like that the tension was low, but there was plenty of sexual tension. The she-spot was funny to read.
Interesting change of events for the village though. I wonder how the ship landing and crashing into their world will change the dynamics of the group!
