Dolan Masters loathes many things: root canals, splinters in his fingers, and people putting toilet paper on the roll wrong—loose end over the top, please. But the one thing he hates more than anything else is Everett freaking Henson.
Everett Henson spends more time with animals than people, his best friend Eli being the exception. The downside of that friendship means crossing paths with Dolan Masters; the man who rubs Everett wrong in every way possible.
But a baby changes everything.
With both men believing they deserve the honor of being the godfather to their best friends’ baby, the only way to settle things is through a competition. Will there be bloodshed, or will these two realize the truth staring them in the face?
May the best godfather win.
Godfather Wars is a stand-alone MM romantic comedy, filled with funny mishaps, snarky banter, and colorful language.
Meh, this story was "fine", but felt like more of a filler read.
My biggest complaint about this book, other than needing another round of proof-reading, was that both of the MC's came across as having pretty much the exact same personality, just with different professions and family situations.
The way that the story turned out was *exactly* how I would have predicted that it would as well, with not only both of the guys , but also that the sole reason that the parents set up the competition in the first place was .
So yeah, very predictable.
2.5 stars.

I loved this book so much. I literally couldn't put it down.
Was it perfect? No. Did it matter? No. Was it just what I needed after a stressful semester which just ended? Yes.
Dolan and Everett does not like each other. Not even a little. You could even go so far as saying that they hate each other. They can't stand being in the same room. Which is too bad. Because they are in the same room quite often due to their best friends being married to each other. When said best friends are announcing that they are expecting a baby both Dolan and Everett takes it for granted that they are going to be the godfather of the baby. To decided which of them are going to be the godfather they quickly come up with a contest to decide it. They are going to go through a bunch of baby related task and the one ending up with most points gets to be the babys godfather. The contest is the build up to a bunch of hilarious scenes. Seriously I laughed so much that my belly hurt at times.
Godfather Wars is a delicious enemies to lovers, slow burn story. Maybe a little too slow for my usual taste, it's close to being a bit too slow in the middle but is quickly picking up when the both Mc's are getting their heads out of their asses and realizes what everyone already knows. They are perfect for each other. Add two adorable dogs and some amazing secondary characters into the mix and I was sold.
There were some things that didn't work for me. Dolan wondering if Everett was using teeth while giving oral was one of them. No self respecting man would want that. There was a bit of telling, not showing going on but honestly, I stopped noticing so it's not that big of a deal. And well this last one is a me problem. Those of you knowing me knows that I'm extremely, and I'm extremely picky about how dogs are described in the books I'm reading and how I can latch on to a fact about the dog or the dogs care can make my head spin. Dolan and Everett left the dogs in the car in a few scenes. This is never, under any circumstances okay. Even if it's just for "a minute", it's not okay. It doesn't take much more than "a minute" for a car to heat up to unbearable levels. This didn't sit right with me, especially with Everett being a veterinarian.
Reread 2o22-o2-14: This is still hilarious. Loved it this time around as well.
If you are looking for a passionate enemies to lovers book, then you will be disappointed. While Dolan sand Everett snark and snarl at each other, the majority of the book is filled with mundane everyday life. They go to work, order takeout, snarl about being the godfather, and order more takeout.
While stuck in a lather, rInse, repeat cycle, the book is still cute and sweet. The baby food challenge was an epic failure, and their dogs play major role in the book.
On the down, the reader keeps wondering when will they. Alas, nothing really happens until almost the 80% mark. The sex scenes are few and not explicit. The romance I Love You portion is quick.
Too much time is spent is spent with the everyday details and the fight to be named the baby’s godfather. The romance suffered. They are off to HEA with visions of a house, fenced yard, and babies of their own. I missed the romance part of that journey.
Dolan’s nickname for Everett was meant to be cute. It was anything but! I cringed each time Dolan used it.
If you looking for some laughs, you need to check out Brittany Cournoyer's Godfather Wars. It is hysterical.
Two men competing to be godfather to their best friends' baby. Cue the hilarity. Dolan and Everett have been enemies since the day they met. With having to spend time together, they end up breaking down the walls. And all the while, it's truly delightful.
This enemies to lovers romance is a great fluffy read. It's full of mishaps that will make you laugh, dogs that will leave you charmed, and plenty of things to love.
All you really need to know is that Godfather Wars is the perfect read when you're looking for your next funny and feel-good read. Brittany Cournoyer will charm you throughout with this sweet enemies to lovers tale.
this was so much fun.. i am used to a darker more action filled storyline from this author and seeing this funny snarky side is a lot of fun. i really enjoyed it.
A whole star increase with the audio. That connection I struggled to see was very apparent, and the whole story went quickly with the fun narration by Kirt Graves and John Solo. My recommendation is definitely to pick this one up on audio if you're thinking about reading!
Original review This is a good, light, low angst read. There were some good moments of humor, and The Godfather challenges were interesting. While I liked both MCs, I didn’t really see their connection. It did seem like there was quite a bit more tell than show, and for that reason, it felt much longer than it was. However, especially with everything going on, it’s a nice light read.
This book was so funny in some ways and so sad in others. The funnier part of this book was Dolan’s pregnany best friend. And the torment she put them through. But when you see the bigger picture, you’ll see that even through the torture, there was something there between the two of them, and she had the perfect scheme to get them to get past whatever it was to move forward. Dolan could not stand Everett. Everything about the man just made him so angry. And he had his reasons. It didn’t help that at every turn he had to see the man because Dolan’s and Everett’s best friends were married. And now pregnant. And convinced these two need a competition to see who would be named the godfather of the baby. Little did they know, she was up to something, but both were so blind in their dislike for each other, they couldn’t see what everyone else seemed to see. That there was more to the story. Little by little, through the baby tests they were put through, they were becoming tentative friends. But it wasn’t until a weekend where Dolan went to visit his brother and he invited Everett along, that things really changed. And they finally got to the bottom of the hostility between the two of them. Maybe now that the air has been cleared, they can move on in a new start. After all, they still had to see who was going to be the best godfather. I wish I could stamp on people’s foreheads about communication. It is the KEY to any relationship. Friendship, blind date, lovers, marriage, business, whatever. You have to have an open line of communication. And because of a lack of communication on several different parts, something that could have been solved with a few words, ended up in hurt feelings and resentment and a dose what is wrong with me? It made me sad when I read the reason behind why Dolan was so upset. I got why he was. He kind of pushed too far some days, but when the levels get that high, a lot of speaking before you think gets involved. But no one could deny the chemistry between the two, no matter how much they snarked at each other. And that in itself was funny at times. It was a constant one up with them. Which was why it was perfect for what Dolan’s best friend had in mind. I really did like these two. I was hoping they could get past what was eating at them, because at the heart of them both, they were kind, loyal and loving friends. Even if they couldn’t be anything else, they could be great friends for each other. And it was obvious in the stuff they did for others, how big their hearts really were. It’s a good story. I laughed and cried and enjoyed it so much. And if you haven’t read it yet, you should.
The only thing Everett and Dolan have in common is their best friends Tasha and Eli, who are married and expecting their first baby. Both Everett and Dolan think they should be the baby's godfather and Tasha proposes them to do a series of tests to prove who of them is worthy of the title.
Okay, so here's the thing, I'm a big fan of Ms. Cournoyer's work, unfortunately, for me this book wasn't up to par with her previous ones.
It took me a long time to warm up to both Everett and Dolan. I just didn't understand the reasons for their animosity, and even when we finally learn what caused Dolan's initial dislike of Everett, the reasons for the rift and how it escalated didn't sit right with me. And while the tests and their pets gave them a reason to get closer, I didn't quite feel the chemistry between them. Also, even if I could see why Dolan would nickname Everett "Drunky", it kind of bugged me that he would keep on calling him that when they were in a relationship. It wasn't cute or fun or something you'd call your boyfriend, but maybe that's just me. *shrugs*
The tests Tasha came up with were fun, but the first half of the book dragged a bit. The second half got better, and it was nice seeing the guys become friends and then lovers. I loved them with Delilah and Lucky, too.
Even if I wasn't completely sold on Everett and Dolan, I still thought it was a good read and who knows? Perhaps you'll enjoy it a whole lot more than I did.

Dolan and Everett hate each other: that's just a fact of life they and their best friends (Tasha and Eli respectively) have to live with. However they've seen nothing until their competitive sides are unleashed on each other when Tasha and Eli announce they're expecting a baby and can't decide who should be the godfather...let the games begin!!
Dolan and Everett are very likable, well-rounded characters with something in their history that makes them nervous of putting themself out there in relationship terms. The cast of (human) side characters is very good, with Dolan's relationship with his brother making me smile lot; but the canine side cast is brilliant. Lucky is adorable but, oh my God, Deliliah totally steals some scenes...amazing!
Godfather Wars is a change of pace and style for this author, but she gets the balance between the comedy (there are some really funny scenes), fluffy romance and keeping a real-world feel to the story just right. I really like that, although we obviously get the HEA and the story follows the timeline from pregnancy announcement to birth, there's absolutely no sign of the insta-everything you see in other books. If a contemporary romcom with the enemies to lovers trope is your idea of a good time, Godfather Wars is definitely the book for you. 4*

This romantic comedy was light and fun to read. Dolan and Everett are both such likeable characters who go from enemies to lovers after sorting out a miscommunication between them. When that’s sorted the heat level jumps up a notch or two. There’s also some very funny antics in their efforts to win the challenge to be the godfather to their best friends baby. There’s no angst, some meddling side characters and a judgemental dog which all leads to a fun romance with a sweet HEA.
Godfather Wars is a delightful, sweet and sexy read that I finished in one sitting. I loved the slow burn between Dolan and Everett. They went from enemies to somewhat friends to lovers and I loved going along for the ride. There is such humor here that you will be laughing out loud. Great secondary characters add just the right punch to the story. Of course Delilah steals the show! This is a light, fun read that is just what is needed!
This was a fluffy and fun read that carries the enemies to lovers trope. These two really did not like each other in the beginning. Over the course of the book the profound dislike turned into pleasantly snark between the leading men. The shenanigans these to went through to earn the title of godfather were hilarious. This is a fun, low angst read that all will enjoy.
Godfather Wars by Brittany Cournoyer is a contemporary m/m romance filled with humor and fun. Dolan and Everett are amazing characters that kept me laughing with their banter, assumptions and antics. The storyline is cute and had me smiling a lot. I loved how everything played out. Fantastic book that I will definitely recommend to friends.
I have to say this this is a new author for me and wanted an easy read...I loved the idea of Everett and Dolan setting off against each other to be godfather...They certainly knew how to rile each other up but when they got together they were perfect together...The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was quite a few times there were a few odd words missing which sometimes made it hard to understand what was being said but still a good read x
I loved the glimpses of the author’s life we got in this book. They made me grin. Speaking of grinning, this book was hilarious. The contests, the snark, the epic messes; I could picture everything in vivid detail and laughed out loud with each chapter. Everett and Dolan are fierce competitors and they take winning to a new level. Mmm, enemies make the best lovers and these two are spicy and sweet. They’re all-around yummy and I want seconds. Do yourself a favor, trust your instincts, and read this book. It will make your day complete.
I really liked this book because it was such a nice surprise. 'Godfather Wars' has the blueprint of some of the best chick-lit classics, but it combines romance and plot in a very refreshing kind of way. I don't have a distinct literary vocabulary or experience to critique the "enemies to lovers" trope, but overall story is very nicely paced and discusses the transformation of the relationship from discomfort to love very beautifully. We got many scenes that dealt with the main pair which endeared them to me a lot, so much so that, despite feeling slightly bored by the end with all the stereotypical 'tying of loose ends' bits, I was fully invested in their romance and how they made it work. Sure, the structure and the concept of the book is nothing new, but there's also special something in this that idk what exactly, - but it just worked for me. I'd love to re-read this book after a while and see how it holds up because right now in my blue haze, I am kind of convinced that this is one of the best romances that I've read this year.
Dolan and Everette hated each other and were at each other's throat whenever they were in the same room. They were best friends to a couple who became pregnant. The coup was unsure who should be the godfather so Dolan and Everette had to compete for this honor. This did not make any sense, why four grown people think this was a good idea? If it were funny I would have let it go, but alas funny it was not. It was pretty juvenile and ridiculous.
This book dragged on and on, and when it was finally revealed why these two hated each other it was even more ridiculous. I rolled my eyes so much that I almost needed surgery to remove them from the back of my head.
It was pretty difficult to get though this one, really a struggle.
Dolan and Everett’s best friends are having a baby but the two of them can’t stand each other. Enter the competition to be The Godfather. With not only pride, but the status of top friend on the line, this competition is cut throat but will it stay that way...
Dolan and Everett were really cute. I loved the challenges they were given and the timeline. I laughed out loud at the diapers. I just kept getting distracted by all the copy edit issues - is instead of his, a random what in the middle of a sentence, etc that could have been easily caught by a grammar check.
Another audiobook I adore and need the paperback for! Brittany Cournoyer did an excellent job writing this story and Kirt and John did wonderful things with the audiobook!

I really loved this piece. Brittany brough life to the story and characters. The story was full of hilarity, snark, adorableness and love. I really liked how the story was so unique in its plot, how the characters all came together seamlessly in their connections, friendships, relationships. I loved all the characters way of interacting with each-other, and over all I adored the chemistry between the two mains. The ending was imperfectly perfect. Not an overly embellished marriage or proposal though we all do love those it wasn’t needed. Brittany listened to what her characters needed, and gave them the happy ever after that was right for them! It was disgustingly romantic, because it was them.
The narration was phenomenal. Kirt Graves did a great job with Dolan, his timber was sexy, his inner monologues were endearing and passionate. I liked how his obvious connecting with the character he voiced cane through in the narration.
John solo is a favourite of mine. He took his role as Everett and blew it out of the water. Solo has amazing talents with voice acting, giving everyone character their own unique feel. I’ve listened to a lot by John and of course there are little similarities that are all John like how he excels at the emotions (especially earnestness) that the characters feel, you can always differentiate between characters, side and mains, and feel the unique traits he brings to each one.
Such a fun and entertaining read! Everett and Dolan seem to really dislike each other but over time that they have to spend around each other, what with wanting/needing to to win the right to godfather of their best friend's baby. Everett and Dolan are both so in denial about how they feel towards each other and with the events/tasks that occur throughout the book, they can't help but notice the other man and learn so much more about them. Their love for their best friends pull them through the tasks right along with their determination to beat the other. What starts as animosity soon turns in to reluctant like before growing into something far deeper. They have great chemistry and are totally a couple that you can imagine together. The cast of characters are wonderful in how they support and obviously care for each other but at the same time have no problem having fun at each other's expense with sometimes hilarious results. The star of the show, however, is Delilah. Anyone who's a fan of Brittany will know how much Delilah means to her and that love shines through in her writing. My absolute favourite line - Over time she and I came to an understanding and formed a routine in which I generally did what she wanted and she pretended to tolerate me - So true, made me laugh out loud. Definitely a recommended read for me, one of Brittany's lighter stories and very worth reading. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I almost DNF in the first 30%. The 2 MCs were both very immature, petty for no obvious reason to the point of being annoying and they didn't have any connection to make me believe that they would be good partners. I only kept reading cause the "challenges" that they had to do were hilarious. Also, the pup is freaking adorable. I was laughing so hard I was crying at the mistaken girlfriend part. I'm glad that I kept reading cause it got much better after that first 30%. The characters still had their annoying/immature moments but they occured much less and they both grew on me. Especially with how they were to their pets. It was a slow burn and as the characters are forced to spend more time together their bond grew to a believable chemistry. The plot stayed interesting the whole way through with all their challenges and antics with their pets. I kept reading to see who would win and was rooting for both of them. It's low angst and low heat. A fun read with some sweet moments and a very cute HEA.
You're going to love this book! Just look at the cover and it says it all. Two men who aren't used to stepping aside and letting someone 'best' them. Two men who aren't afraid to compete for what they want. Two men who think they know exactly how something is to be done.
Compromise? Not me!
When Everett and Dolan both assume they're going to be the godfather for their mutual best friends, the competition is on! And neither one is backing down.
Humor is embedded throughout this romantic comedy. I'm not sure if the kitchen disaster is the funniest, or the hour spent at the playground, but you'll find plenty to laugh about. And with one character ticklish and unable to speak coherently at certain points, you're in for a treat!
Brittany has done it again and all of us are the beneficiaries of her talent.
Narrator score🎧 ; I adore Kirt and John. And that duo is absalutly awesome! I love the voices they gave the characters. And though I don't usually like 2 narrator's for a story about 2 men, but somehow it worked great. John gave the snark and Kirt the uncertainty and maturiy for each character.
Level of steam🔥: its a snarky story that could definitely be classified as a slow burn. And the sex is hot when they get to it , for sure.
Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: nothing sad about this book its a full on comedy
The book itself📖: the book was so sticky sweet and funny that you can't not like that book. I adore it so very much. Its a great comedy with a sweet story about enemies to lovers and its so cute that you can't handle it sometimes. Ohhhh and the judgmental dog Dalila is absalutly everything 😅😅😅
